Sorry, I have just heard it on the news. I had better not repeat on here what OH has just said
!Glad you had a good trip away OP.
Busy day here today. Welcomer duty at the Cathedral this morning and our hairdresser came this afternoon. I feel like a new woman

David K,
I wonder why the Doctors don't have ' cat flaps ' or similar fitted in an outside wall of the surgeries at about 4' 6" height. With a sanitising spray fitted ay one end or t'other they could do BP's or Flu ' jabs without worries

MillieH,
I went out shopping today
-- first time in the rain during this blooming Lock-down.Eventually, got to the head of the queue, rather wet but needs must.
Called in for my turn, got sanitised, swaddled up & seated when a female voice whispered in my tiny shell-like -- " Would Sir like Plaits, Pony Tail or his usual today ??" Had to remind her that MY usual is " Short back & sides, clear of the ears and Square at the back thank you !! " But By Heck it was worth it -- I can turn round quickly now, without flogging myself or anybody nearby to within half an inch of our lives

So now I understand how you feel

Well some more then and now, these are literally 5 minutes drive from my house. Someone I was talking to mentioned going to Fatfield school when young and I asked him where it was and when I found out I started to do some research. I found the then photos on line but just went out this afternoon to get the now pictures. All are taken from the same viewpoint (more or less)
Apparently the school had a number of famous old pupils, One Sir Harold Jeffreys, mathematician amongst other things. Another was Bobby Thompson, a famous, well to north east, comedian.
"She shouts from upstairs, Bobby can yer fix the string on wa carrier bag . . . why am nae engineer."

Again a few minutes drive from the last set. The chap I was talking to told me also told me of the wagon way shown on the old photo of the school and it the same one here at Brady square in Washington.

The wagon way brings back memories Corners.
When we returned from Singapore, my father was posted to the RAF camp at Hawarden, now used by British Aerospace. I was 5 at the time and attended Mold Junction school not far away. I was sent to school in shorts and white shirt, at least until my parents could find some different coloured shirts as I returned home every day filthy from the smoke as the old puffers used to take on water right next to the school. I hated them as I was compelled to be scrubbed down every night.😱 Cold tin bath style! Fortunately we only stayed there for a couple of memorable months.

We're used to phone call consultations but the new "askmyGP" is an online filtering system using texts. (Sorry I gave it the wrong name earlier) For BP results we get handed a sheet to record from our own monitors, I expect that will now be a downloaded print version rather than collect one from the surgery.
As DK says strange times, the effects of the virus have changed things more quickly than expected.
Managed to get a hairdresser appointment for August, so no new woman here yet..

OH now has a weight off her mind....she visited her hairdresser this evening, and now is a shorn sheep rather than a shaggy bear!!
However we had some very sad news today. My only cousin, aged 92, died in her care home in Fife after contracting a chest infection last week. She has not been well for quite a while but it still was a surprise to hear that she had passed away so suddenly. Doubt that we will be going to the funeral as I think that numbers will be restricted to immediate family. Unfortunately her daughter lives in America so perhaps she too will not be able to attend.

Surprise, surprise!!
If anyone deserves to get it it's him.1 -
That reminds me of Margherita Pracatan from the Clive James shows "I love you all' brue. She died last week aged 89. When I worked at our local maternity unit in a previous life we had a midwife from Cuba on the labour ward who was very loud and excitable and one of our volunteers who used to man the phone used to hand the phone to me whenever she phoned the front desk to let us know a lady in labour was on her way in and say 'Margherita Pracatan is on the phone for you' 😂

Commiserations from us as well Nellie, we had an elderly Aunt we always used to call in on when up in the Teesside area. We still miss seeing her.
I have just been reading some of the quotes from the new book by Trump’s niece. I could be tempted to read this, but only when it appears in a charity shop. Apparently a friend of Melania is writing one as well.

Just a very swift visit over breakfast. All over behind this morning, no idea why - slacking?
Just want to add my condolences to Nellie on the loss of his only cousin. Sad that you probably wont be able to attend her funeral but I'm sure you'll be with them in spirit and cherish your own memories of her.
Jealous of those whove had the haircuts! Thursday week for me. OH on Friday.
Wet here with mizzle rain, painter finished the outside of our house yesterday. Looking smart and good timing.

Just a quick look in, tried last night but it was just so slow, I'm afraid I gave up.

Had an early shop at Aldi this morning, they've installed a traffic light system on the door, it must count the people going in and if it shows red you have to wait until someone comes out. This is ok if people actually take any notice I suppose.
Mind you it was very quiet at 8.30 this morning and I was in and out and home by just after 9.It's a bit grey and drizzly this morning, work this afternoon so bit of housework to do.
Condolences on your sad news Nellie, my step father's sister died a couple of weeks ago, we couldn't attend the funeral, but hoping to have a memorial service next year.
Looking forward to my haircut tomorrow.

Seems a good idea. The bigger picture they can build about COVID the better placed they will be to combat in the future. I think currently we know less about it than we know if that makes sense? It would be interesting if you could report back on how it goes.

Caravan service completed no problems so will pick it up tomorrow morning. Put Mrs Ones car in for MOT at 9.30 this morning, 10.15 all ok and ready for collection.
Been raining most of the night and this morning, we’ve had enough now so please stop.
Mrs One still churning out masks for Norfolk Scrubs.
Hopefully get into the garden for a tidy up later
Condolences Nell

I gave up on here last night, just too slow.
Sorry to hear your news Nellie, always a shock whatever age or circumstances.
AD interesting to hear about taking part in the ONS survey, hope we all benefit in the end.
Some extra help in the garden this morning, great to have another pair of hands.
We might, just might, be getting fibre optics cabling in the village, at present we're on copper wires from a fibre cabinet in another village. New houses seem to have pushed the matter forward and we have a cabinet for them but not us!

We had our first visit DK. Young man arrived after phoning to check we were in. He actually stayed outside on the doorstep, socially distanced. Which he said was there preferred method. I assume, if raining, they would step inside and again maintain distance. He gave us two forms to complete, basically consent for your data to be used in the study. You had to tick wether you were prepared to sign up for a month of weekly tests or that plus monthly for a year. As we hope to be away in the van over the next year, we chose to do it for a month.
A test kit for each of us was handed over in a sealed plastic bag. After washing your hands thoroughly you open this and self administered the test. Just the one swab, first rubbed on the back of your throat then stuck up each nostril. Full instructions on how to best get a good swab were given. We then had to snap off the swab in a plastic tube, seal it and stick on a bar code, before giving back in a sealed plastic bag.
He then asked us some questions about how we felt, did we think we had had Covid, had we been in contact with anyone who had etc. He also photographed the forms and left them with us.
As far as the swab test. If positive you will be told immediately. Otherwise all results get passed to your GP who should tell you about the negative ones.
As far as the blood tests, these aren't being given to everyone and no mention of those was made on the first visit.
We would also have done it for nothing. However, thought as charities are struggling, we could recycle some government cash in there direction. No sign of it yet, apparently it will be an email voucher. If like last time, you cashed it at the post office.
