Saturday night we went to a live gig - not so far to travel, front row seats, cheap drinks and the comfiest seats ever.

By the wonder of Zoom we had Chris Difford in our kitchen - along with about 60 others. We pushed the table back and pulled the settee in front of the desk (instead of a creaky old office chair).

Two years ago he was here in person in the sitting room for a House Concert (Birthday present for OH).

It's more like October than July here this morning. Grey, chilly and very windy.

That looks like an excellent evening Goldie.

With that many moves in that timescale, I'd have thought you'd have pruned down your "stuff" by now, Triky. You're obviously a compulsive hoarder like me.

Well, the work HAS stopped now  !!  Furloughed plumber on his way to B & Q for some ericaceous stuff for his mothers plants -- I think she's getting as much out of his extended " Holiday " as she can ~~  cruel or what surprised

Not too cool herein South Cheshire, but grey clouds with a few short sunny breaks but good enough to allow the Road Menders / repairers / tarters-up to get on with their work despite one P*****K leaving his car where they really don't want it to be  yell  With a bit of luck they just might tarmac his bonnet & windscreen in passing and finish off with a pass or three from their hand steered diesel roller ! innocent

Just had an e-mail, the library's re-opening tomorrow. Hurray, it's something I've really missed.  Going to spend some time this afternoon playing "hunt the missing book". I've looked high and low but I'm still missing one.

How will the library work? Will you be able to pick books up and put them back on the shelf? Or will you have to know what you want and ask for it?

I'm a great library user but admit that I'm far from comfortable using their services, when I am able to, again unless they can convince me of the steps taken to reduce contamination. I can hardly see myself waltzing in and having a browse. I might avail of their reserve and collect system, leaving the book on the shelf for a few days after the email and then quarantining it after return to house for a few more days but is it worth the hassle? Probably not at the moment although I would hate for the place to close due to lack of support. A bit of a quandary.

A busy day as the weather has stayed dry and the forecast is not too good for the next couple of days. So the garden has been hacked to shreds, well not quite, but it's had more of a haircut than some on here.

Off to get my meatballs made and put in the fridge for tonights dinner. No rude comments needed from ABM thank you.wink

Years ago when I suggested to Margaret that I buy her a Kindle as a present she was in two minds about it as she also like going to the Library. As it happens in all those years since the Kindle you can probably count on one hand how many times she has been and in the last couple of years not at all! It just seems so easy to download books. We also do a lot of book swaps on campsites and the place where we normally have our Pensioner meetings. Sometimes she will treat herself to a book in Waitrose and a lot of places do two books for £5. I think she does feel guilty.

Many year ago I used to use the library a lot, but for a long time I've just bought the books I want. The house is rather overrun with bookcases - at least one in five rooms and stacks here and there. For the past 10 years I've used my Kindle more and more, but still buy proper books (usually hardbacks) of authors I particularly like.

I've tried using Borrowbox this year - but find it hard to browse if I don't know what I want. And if I do know what I want it's out on loan for weeks.

I also reread my old books - going through authors in publication order.

I've also become more intolerant - and if I'm struggling to engage with a book I put it down and don't finish it. Life's too short to read something because I have to (like school)

Lucky you! Wiltshire is not planning to reopen libraries until August 10th and then it looks like a greatly reduced service with many branches remaining shut. There is a "consultation  period" at the moment looking at 3 possible options, none of which looks likely to allow browsing. I still have 3 books on order including the final part of Hilary Mantel's Cromwell trilogy.

Wiltshire is one of the counties apparently facing bankruptcy - not quite sure why, they whacked up council tax in April and have just increased the price for garden waste collection again.  undecided

I usually only use my kindle when on holiday as it saves carting lots of books around but I am having to use it all the time at the moment.  As I am still waiting for my cataract op (and look likely to be waiting for quite some time) I am finding reading difficult.  It is much easier with my kindle as it has a backlight and I can increase the font size.  I do actually prefer a proper book though. In recent years I have got most of mine from the book stall at the College that we go to for our courses but of course that is closed at the moment. I have to admit I haven't been in a library for 2 or 3 years now which I feel very guilty about. A friend was telling us on Friday that she misses hers for jigsaws.  Her local library usually has a jigsaw swapping service which she uses a lot.

I can recommend talking books Millie.  If I’m driving by myself I always listen to a book.  I find if we are together in the car then shuffled music  is the way to go.

Very windy last night but thankfully dropped this morning.  Did get a soaking on a walk from Thornham Harbour to Holme next Sea.  For info NWT Holme is completely closed, so no parking there.

From the e-mail. reduced opening times 11-2, one way system, limited numbers in at any one time, required to use hand sanitiser on entry, only self service stations on check out. No mention of handling books. I've always liked going to the library, and I admit the news it's reopening has cheered me up no end. BTW.. I still haven't found the missing book. It's a mystery wink

I had a wasted journey to mine to discover it's only 10-4 Mon, Wed & Fri. Still it gets my steps up a bit as I hadn't really walked anywhere part from a quick wander round the forecourt of Marquis while they finished the paperwork on the van's has check.

Nice sunny day here today but windy. Had to go and get gas for the caravan ended up getting it from Morrison’s petrol station reasonably priced to be fair. The home and finished packing the van so that’s us almost ready for the off at the end of the week we will move it over and have the car hooked on the night before we leave saves a job in the morning. Finally managed to get a hair cut long over due although me head feels a bit cold now. Not much planned for the next couple of days just a few things to do then ready to leave on our long awaited holiday

Had a successful day today, my walking boots which I bought from Mountain Warehouse in October last year had started leaking and my feet were getting wet. Of course I couldn't find the receipt, but as the boots hadn't been that comfortable anyway I had been looking online for some replacements.

Yesterday sorting through my emails I found an  e-receipt for the boots so popped down to Mountain Warehouse at lunchtime and a friendly shop assistant said no problem they would change them, but they no longer stocked that boot but I could choose another one.  Came away with a new pair of boots, tin of leather cleaner/waterproofing and some wash in reproofer for our jackets and leggings, after all the discounts it cost me an extra £6 smile  Didn't go into Primark afterwards although it looked very quiet.

Did get to make a fuss of a beautiful 18 week old border collie pup outside. His owner said they paid £900 for him surprised

Apart from that it was just another day at work, nevermind only 4 days this week.

Busy old day here. After an early shower the weather has been kind, sunny but still windy. Service engineer was here by 8:00 and complete by 11:00, then it was off the the dentist for OH's appointment. Not much joy for her as they could only do a check up, so it looks as if she will have a while to wait for full treatment. No charges made for PPE. This afternoon had a set of new tyres fitted onto the caravan, as the others were 5yrs old. So all in all a rather expensive day but needs must. Managed to fit in a pleasant walk with Flyte before dinner and an interesting chat on the phone this evening.wink

OH had to buy a dental kit Nellie. He managed to break off quarter of an old tooth that was more filling than tooth. But thankfully no pain, on checking with dentists, it doesn’t have a nerve! Just a bit sharp. I think it’s the fillings they are struggling with because of all the sprays and suction. These are the type of things I hope to see back with us ASAP.

We had a lovely afternoon with SIL and her OH yesterday in their garden. Thankfully it was hot and sunny, and we all enjoyed a picnic. Haven’t seen them since February, so great to catch up in person. Raining today though, think we have wet for next four days, so will be an attic bike ride😁 We chuckle because every time we choose a virtual ride in Wales, it’s raining😂 So we disconnect and go somewhere else that is sunny😁 Still waiting for our masks to arrive here, probably coming from China🤔

Had a new experience yesterday with "myGP" on line system for contacting the surgery...only bugbear yet another password and info input. Text only allows a brief contact, so no long stories. wink I chose a non urgent phone call reply and got a call back from my chosen GP a few hours later. Our surgery wants those who can to use the system so it was interesting to try and we can still call direct when needed. Anything is better than the lockdown and our surgery being totally closed due to local virus problems, at least it's open again.

Nice and dry here and our garden help is coming back for a couple of hours tomorrow. Due to being at home for such a long time I think we've kept on top of most of the garden, wondering if she'll think the same?!

Glad you got your purchases sorted Helen. We use Mountain Warehouse at Clarks Factory village, seems a long time since we visited and some shops will no longer be there. Our local town has also lost so many I don't feel like venturing in at the moment.

Good that you had a family meet up TDA, hoping to see my sister soon, weather permitting!

Good choice today Ttda. Chucking it down would be the polite version.

Had an outing to England today. Saltney near Chester has a Go Outdoors  and it's a huge space with just a few customers usually during the week. The ladies were glad just to get out of a rut. Surprised to see them still trading as I thought they had gone into administration. Their stock levels were poor so I didn't get what I was after but MiL spent some money so she was really pleased.😀 The Airbus 'Whale" was just taking off as we passed British Aerospace. Not quite as thrilling as having Concorde take off as we once had when driving past Heathrow one year. A bit distracting to say the least.

Managed to nab a Click and Collect for 3 weeks time. The first time I've been able to do that. We'll be home from our week away the day before so good timing.

A busy few days coming up as I have an appointment with a needle tomorrow and the caravan goes in for service on Friday.

I was wondering how our surgery was organising things as I am due a BP check soon. Normally we can book in advance but there have been no appointments available for months so decided to ring. Apparently no face to face appointments without first contacting surgery and it seems my BP is pretty low priority. Fortunately I have my own machine which always gives a better result than at the doctors!!! Just wonder how they are going to deal with the likes of flu jabs? The worry is that those that have the potential for having a serious problem could be put off by lack of easy access. Certainly living in strange times!

Brue, I am used to doing telephone stuff with our Drs, as I used to do Dad’s three monthly check up. It was a phone appointment, and you got to have a good chat, more so than in surgery.

Its gone from foul to “Cornish” here, very wet. We have just been to collect some wood for finishing off our wooden garden swing that OH has been renovating. It was OHs first time in a shop since March. One in, one out, mask on, hands sanitized. The pooch wasn’t amused, we had to leave him at home for 20 minutes. Nose glued to letter box when we got home. He had “processed” the mail!😂

Our GP surgery doing only phone consultations ,or if they think there is a need will do home visits (as with OH) which are longer than the usual ten minute slotswink

And they would rather have us call in the BP results from our own surgery style Omron  bp monitor as there is not the "white coat syndrome" associated with surgery visits ,but as thay say unless the distolic number is above 150 it is not "urgent?"

    Bolsonaro - Brazilian President?

Our excellent 3 night trip finished with dropping the caravan at the dealers for service.  Very efficient hand over procedure in operation.

Home about 1030hrs after calling in at a garden centre for some liquid pond cleaner.

Managed to unload car before the showers started💦
