We haven't seen one set of our children/grandchildren (Yorkshire lot) since November, the other set we saw Mum and kids in February(half term) but Dad was in Cyprus, so not seen him since since mid December when he came up to collect the kids from school.

This however is nothing new for us we are used to only seeing the kids a couple of times a year.

Very hot here today and its very quiet outside, my guess is to hot for folk who are not used to these temps so keeping kids inside.

We are thinking of going for a bike ride shortly it always seems cooler when you are whizzing along on a bike.

OH went to the wood yard (saw mill) this morning to collect the wood he ordered a couple of days ago. All cut to size (near enough) and treated. The yard was busy, all collections are by appointment and payment by card, its great though to be getting on with projects.

Dobbies and other garden centres have opened up here today but I'm staying away, as I'm now not needing anything and I think it will be very busy.

I've been stripping beds and washing today, also taking items out to the caravan that can now go back in like bedding and towels, toiletries etc. I always take these items out over winter.

Hope you all have a good day.

I know lockdown is being eased but some of us in the shielding group it isn't happening!  We have the luxury of watching people go to play golf, tennis etc!

I heard today my wife's respite has been pared back so much she will not go till November! meanwhile no sign of my son's respite opening up.

Spent today on Zoom keeping in touch with his day centre groups and making oatcakes.

Too hot to sit outside! I know I shouldn’t complain, but after about an hour I had to come inside.

Somehow I am now snowed under with flour. I use a lot (all our bread and cakes) and when shortages started I ordered from three different places. They’ve all now arrived and I’m well stocked with white and whole meal bread flour, assorted sorts of grains and seeds, and plain and self raising. I’m also the flour supplier to my daughter in law next door, so I’m confident we’ll get through it before the best by dates. It’s a good job we have a very large cold pantry.

Another lovely sunny day here too and very warm so again a nice relaxing day. Sat out in the garden for a while reading Practical Caravan getting in the mood to go away now when we can. Now just sitting up on the deck cold beer in hand and the smoke rising from our steaks sizzling away on the BBQ. Happy weekend everyone.

Too hot here to do much so have enjoyed the garden and a walk out in some shady spots. Like many locally I have a chat with some friendly pigs on the way, I pass just about every type of farm animal, chickens, see the same people, greet the same dogs. I feel I'm back in days of yore! 🐓🐏🐖

    Another glorious day here again.

Dropped off birthday present and flowers to a friend for her birthday, had a sit in her garden too - social distanced almost felt normal 😉

Very warm here, managed a couple of loads of washing, bedding off dried and returned so should smell really fresh tonight 😂!

Tried to just sit in the garden but kept interrupting myself, but nothing to show for it 😱. When indus sit it was in/out if the sun/shade. The slight breeze felt very chilly in the shade and non existent in the sun 🤣🤣

Just had a facetime conversation with son and DIL, only cos they wanted to see the puppy! Nice to know where you come in the pecking order! She's settled and chilled still - long may it continue. Did a video of her playing in the garden and sent to granddaughters in NZ, right at the end she squatted and performed, no idea how to edit so sent in its entirety apparently the girls reckon the best bit is her pooing 🤣🤣🤣 kids!

Do need the gardeners - brue and takethedogalong et al to check out the gardening thread, help needed with roses!

Robsail good you're keeping occupied but hard without the respite, something I hadn't considered much under the circumstances. I hope you can get something in place as soon as possible for all your sakes.

Nice to read of trips out and to see the photos. Our sky is looking so blue in them.......

Goldie you might be able to make a profit on flour 😉 several folk on here have had trouble with supplies. I'm ok with a decent stock, its icing sugar I have a surfeit of. Couldn't get any mentioned it to a couple of folk, both tracked it down so now I have more than I'm likely to need but it should keep!

The tunnel in surprisingly short, I think when driving you think it's a long way but I believe the road does a loop before going under? So I was expecting a long ride but only about a minute's ride I think, certainly it took longer waiting for the lift (only one bike at a time unless it's the same household) at either end. A lot of cyclists and no pedestrians when I was there, and it's free. The ferry cost £1.70 (no cash it said and posters saying you should wear masks but no one did) one way and a four bike limit atm. There was perhaps 8 people on board.

It actually consists of two tunnels running in parallel, one for pedestrian use with a 3.2 m (10 ft 6 in) diameter, and a larger 3.7 m (12 ft 2 in) diameter tunnel for pedal cyclists. Both tunnels are 270 m (884 ft) in length, and lie 12 m (40 ft) below the river bed, at their deepest point

We chose there because it's not too far from home and at the quiet end of the Lakes. We were up Burney the week before, which I think you can see in the first photo behind Beacon Tarn.

Not much news to cheer from the Welsh C19 update. Still no permission to travel far. Everything getting a bit repetitive now.

Most jobs done in the house but need to get some mix for roof tiles. Have about 4 that need fixing.

Corners, is there a decent guide to the cycle paths up there apart from Sustrans ones? Like the tunnel story.

Loving your photos of your local areas Corners and Nellie. We know Tynemouth, but not done the pedestrian/cycle tunnel, but got to go on our list. And you are very lucky being up there Nellie.

Robsail, it must be so difficult for you. We have two vulnerable in our little family unit, so nothing much is likely to change for us in a good while yet. Keep safe👍

More gardening for us, a nice cool woodland walk. Highlight of our day was a very persistent pair of Great Spotted Woodpeckers in garden. We have seen them in Winter, but this warm is unusual. Hope they choose to stay around.😁

WN, my OH has done a lot of cycling in Northumberland and Scottish Borders. I will ask him for any specific maps he uses, but if you look on this website, and drill down into some of the links, there are some great long and short rides, taking in a lot of the best of the County. It’s great cycling territory, we are always very impressed with what’s provided when we visit.

Thanks Ttda. Will check it out. Hey, you're Maximus on this android!

Mrs WN took MiL into town late on this afternoon. Prescriptions had been collected by chemist and MiL had not been in since "Lockdown" so it was thought that a quiet afternoon might be a good time for her to see what's going on. She wore her mask and watched as Mrs WN collected goods. They then bought some oil she needs from Holland and Barrett, no-one in shop and finally entered Tesco as no queue. Mrs WN wanted to give her an idea of what to expect if she has to go in. Hardly a soul in the shop so a good acclimatisation. MiL didn't enjoy the experience but that was to be expected. She's not in the shielded group so may need to know what to do. A glass of wine at dinner helped calm her down.

It is a bit traumatic for the elderly and vulnerable if they have to venture outside their own lockdown sphere. I'm not exactly overjoyed myself but risk assessment is everything.

Best wishes to Robsail. Some people have it tough. Hope you get some help soon.

Maximus checking in😁 I have been trying to update my Sister on what it’s like out there. She’s made us all masks, and I got some face shields from a generous neighbour. Mum won’t be going anywhere on her own, memory loss too bad for that. I have noticed though that there are a lot of very elderly folks out there, and sadly some just aren’t coping well, it’s a very strange world for them now. Lots to think about, much more time required, one way systems and queuing, using cards for payments. It’s a huge ask for many. ☹️

Thanks, the Sustrans one is very detailed and the one I use the most and had ones in it that I didn't know about close to home, and we're lucky to have so many up here as a result of long closed railways, there are a few books on amazon and I actually ordered this one last night,

Lost Lanes North: 36 Glorious bike rides in Yorkshire, Lake District, Northumberland, Pennines and northern England

it has just been published this month and part of the lost lanes series. it is arriving tomorrow so I'll let you know.

Glorious again here. Dora and I been for our walk a bit later today 0645. She in the front pack. Met more dog owners happy to walk past at a safe distance so herself can be admired. Not bothered by a muzzled roti with a deep bark, apparently a gentle lad. Pushchairs, joggers and walkers did a busy road - speed 😱, big vehicles and a police car, no need naw and I wasn't spoken to about my sanity 😂.

Sadly had to post in neighbourhood groups about a squashed cat on the road 😢😢 quite a mess so I couldnt move it 😢. But at least I could give colour markings and size so hopefully someone will know why their pet hasn't returned 😢😢.

Got some dead heading and pottering in the garden if it doesn't get too hot.

    Stay safe folks.
