    Almonds and mushrooms Nellie?

Bike ride for us, around (and around, and around.....) park. Distance not huge, but some climbs each circuit. Building up nicely for when we hopefully get back out.

Lemon flavoured yogurt is good, especially the Greek style, but there are other flavours you could try, depends on which fruit flavours you like.

The Lidl creamy Greek strawberry one is delicious, I like the plain ones too.  Fruit, or crunch corners?  Lots of other types too.

What about flavoured milk?  Cheese? Milk on porridge or cereals, add a little more than you would normally.  Creme  fraiche, fromage frais, creamy rice pudding, adding milk to soups?

Yes, probably . It got here about 1.30 I think. Carrier bags left on the large porch step, then my daughter in law and I had to remember who ordered what. "Is this yours or mine" etc.

Looking down from the Helm you would probably see about 100 Dairy Shorthorns grazing in the fields farthest from the farm buildings. And maybe my husband rolling the meadows.

Oh I do envy those of you that can 'escape' into the countryside, cos it's on your doorstep 😉. I'm happy pottering around my home and garden but can't wait until this 'hotspot' passes and I'll venture out alone for a jolly good walk  if I'm allowed to do a couple of hours I can take in some lovely green spaces which gladdens the heart😀

Nelliethehooker good news on your scan will have to look it up 🤔 as I've no idea! Theres lots of scores of calcium but if you could always have a calcium plus vitamin D, which enables digestion, supplement theres a good company based in the channel Isles recommended years ago by my GP 😉

Started beautifully here after wonderful super moon, through glass thanks to nocturnal nature calls, but clouded over already. Might mean I have to tackle some indoor jobs 😯.

    Stay safe folks

Edit well what do you know? I've never known the proper name for bone density scan. Everydays a school day 😂

It seems that I'm not getting enough calcium. In my diet, so will have to look to increase that. I don't like milk so am a bit limited in my diary intake.

Nellie not just diary that has calcium in it, looking on google it says

green leafy vegetables – such as broccoli, cabbage and okra, but not spinach.
    soya beans.
    tofu.
    soya drinks with added calcium.
    nuts.
bread and anything made with fortified flour.
fish where you eat the bones – such as sardines and pilchards.

Hope you like some of these.smile

Tammygirl as I mention earlier I've been waking up with a headache, worse yesterday, bit of a cough and sneezing 😱😱. It does pass but once again woke up with a muzzy  head rather than a real headache. I wonder whether I have a touch of hayfever and am just more aware this year?? Or if its underlying tension, I don't think I'm any more stressed/worried about the situation OH and I very much what will be will be type, but just a thought. Hope yours passes off to.

I only listen/read the news once a day and have virtually ceased listening to radio 4, totally unheard of in my life!, as there is so much about the situation that I don't feel I need to listen to constantly. I'm not burying my head and have remarked it will be a fantastic topic for studies once we come through it. I don't think any subject won't be able to have thesis and doctorates on the subject for many years to come on its effects and outcomes. Will be more academic and fascinating by then. Bit like the plague studies, but with more data??

We met an autistic German on a cruise in 2017, and have maintained contact with him ever since. He is great company [trying to explain to him on his birthday what a pub crawl was occupied about 2 days of the cruise, and we still failed to progress beyond his notion of '1 beer in 1 pub in 1 hour and then we walk back to the ship to watch the film?' interpretation ...].

He emailed us to ask what was happening at the moment and here is our reply. There is a mild political reference, inspired by John Crace, the Political Sketch writer for the Guardian, apologies if this breaks protocol]

    Bonjour Werner,

My apologies; I just realised that I had not replied to your email!

Life in the UK is strange! The Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, the Health Minister, Matt Hancock, the Chief Scientific Officer, Prof Chris Whitty, Prince Charles and Michael Gove [in charge of the Duchy of Lancaster and Government Idiocy and Misinformation], have all had or have Covid-19, mainly because they failed to follow their own advice about avoiding unnecessary travel and social contact ... The Scottish Chief Medical Officer has resigned, because she failed to follow her own advice about unnecessary travel TWICE. Footballers have broken the rules about maintaining Social Distancing [2 metres apart in UK] by crashing Land Rovers into parked cars, holding sex parties, training in groups in open spaces [Aberdeen and Spurs], and Police had to intervene at a funeral yesterday when 60 mourners arrived [maximum allowed is 10!] refused to leave and refused to keep the 2 metres rule [so we'll have perhaps 50 or more funerals from this group in 2 or 3 weeks time ...?].

The population is told to order shopping online to avoid the risk of infection in supermarkets; BUT the supermarkets cannot deliver the food quickly enough, so we have to wait at least 14 days for each week's shopping, so we will starve to death over about 6 weeks, but this is better than dying from Covid-19 Toilet Rolls are now available, but we don't need them because we have no food ... Flour is now out of stock so home baking of cakes is difficult ...

We caught another mouse in the kitchen yesterday [mice are stupid, they should know we have no food!] and as I looked at his broken body, I thought, 'Can we make him into a small casserole with an onion and a carrot, and perhaps 2 potatoes? . Fortunately, Elaine stopped me; she IS the sensible one in our marriage!

No travel plans because the Government has banned all travel until further notice. Our caravan is locked in the Workshop premises because they cannot work during the pandemic, and the weather has been bad, with strong winds, low temperatures and lots of rain. But the Police Cars still drive around to make sure that we are not stupid enough to go out for exercise for longer than the advised [not the law, but the Police think it is!] period!

And this is all supposed to be normal life in the UK!

But the sun has started to shine today, so,instead of not being allowed to go out in the cold weather, we can change to not being allowed to go out in the warm weather?

We both hope you are still in good health and send you our best wishes.

    Steve & Elaine

    Bakers,

Your post brought back memories of a superb Marty Feldman sketch that opened his show some 50 years ago. He leaned into the camera so that the effect of his bulging eyes was magnified even more, and launched into a fevered 'fire and brimstone' outpouring about our being invaded by plagues of locusts, infested by viruses of boils and all manner of other illnesses and maladies, as his delivery became ever more strident ...

And then he leaned back, the camera went to long shot to show the old magnetic weatherboard with the weather symbols attached, and Mr Feldman reverted to an upper class BBC announcer accent, continuing with...

'Apart from that, the rest of the evening will be quite settled, with patches of light cloud, mild winds and warm temperatures for the time of year ...' sealed Genius writing and performing and a much needed laugh!

Another brilliant day here.  My walk this morning was through both parks and down to the river.  A few boats marred up but did watch some inshore fishing boats go off to sea and also watched two offshore supply boats go off to service some of the 70+ gas platforms we have in the Southern Sector.  Had a look at the moon last night but thought Venus was more spectacular.  Slightly earlier elevenses then back to varnishing my owl

Like you I've had this headache for the last few days, think it mainly because I'm not sleeping very well. Not the best sleeper even under normal conditions cry so far I've never suffered from hayfever, we don't often get high levels where we are but I know down your way you do.

I have only been watching the news at lunch time and tea time, try to stay away from it just before bedtime. Stress/tension could be a factor but I don't feel stressed at all, think if I lived in one of the big cities I might be but where we are I feel quite safe.

Wishing you well, thanks for you kind words.

I wake up very stuffed up Bakers. We always sleep with window open, so doubt it’s lack of fresh air. Like you, we are being selective about about our news viewing/reading. I think if you are doing what you are, it is all too much at the moment. Enjoy the sunshine, garden, birdlife, a decent book, anything that is a form of escapism.

Even on our bike ride yesterday, a lot were on their phones loudly discussing nothing but things to do with virus. It was so tempting to yell at one or two to give them something else to think about in the form of not getting run down by a bike as they zig zagged aimlessly across the paths, arms waving wildly to illustrate their conversations. But politeness is the best policy. We are very wary of the Parent on phone four accompanying children small dog on an expanding lead combo😱

We currently have a flock of starlings, clicking, whooping, tweeting, and doing that lovely burbling they do, keeping us amused. Along with mating dunnocks, nest building robins and a very strident wren!

Sorry to hear of your " Waking  Headaches " - it's not something I have suffered from for a decade or three now, well not since the price of a pint went up so much anyway embarassed.

Found a neighbour out working away so hard trying to do his bit for the local area -- he is busy creocoting ( other creosote substitutes available ) his fence panels and everybody who passes by slows down and takes double deep inhalations just like the dogs do when passing those lovely marker posts where the cockapoo's are known to congregate surprised.

now I'll head off for a change of 'sniff',  fourth load of washing must be nearly ready and that's dosed with a different variety of concentrated fabric conditioner ( Wonder what that will smell like  sealed  ??  )

Confused the creocoting neighbour when We talked about a pure white moggy that has been so brave to come and sit on his garden table.  He did not even know his neighbour had a cat at all, and  they have only been there for eighteen months or so.  Still must move my old stumps and get some exercise by re-loading the washer, so  TTFN  smile

Just had a walk round local daughter's garden via live WhatsApp, nice to see our visiting dog relaxing at home. They have dug out a small veg patch near the front door (topsy turvy fenced garden at front, yard at back.) Now asking for spare seedlings from Dad.

Had a chat with two neighbours over phone, passed on veg box info to one who has to rely on shopping by other neighbours. I think it helps to feel more independent and I worry about the helpers getting too exposed to other people. Our very elderly neighbour is still going to the shop, telling me her sons don't know! yell

It's warm here, no wind but a bit overcast.

Hope those headaches go soon B2 and TG, my eldest daughter is complaining of the groundhog day feeling, it's such a strange thing to be happening to all of us.

Another day of off and on sunshine, house warming up nicely, hopefully another day when no heating will be required.

Emptied 2 more cupboards for OH, some things thrown out, cleaned the 3 we emptied a few days back,  and filled up a small one with reserve baking stuff.  So I have now been rewarded by being allocated the top third of a tall unit, with additional shelf, for more of my turned items.   laughing

OH looked at all the things I have already put in my first cupboard and started muttering about e Bay and starting a shop!  embarassed

We have also been shredding paperwork, so much that the machine has overheated and ground to a standstill.

More stuff, toys and books, belonging to DD have been identified, so toys will be boxed up and books moved downstairs to the Library, otherwise known as the front bedroom, where there are some empty book shelves.  This should then leave 4 empty wall cupboards which OH has suggested I use for all our photograph albums and slides.

OH's Dad was a keen photographer, as am I, so she has all his photo albums, going back to the 1930s, with family photos and scenery, all named, quite a pile of stuff.  He was also an avid reader, so we still have a lot of his books, though MIL did give away some when she moved in with us.

Possessions of 3 generations, no much wonder we have so much stuff!

Still plenty to clear out in the big loft, then there is the small loft, which is also stuffed.   frown

We've asked the MiL to stop looking at the news itself as she was becoming more agitated. She now just looks at the headlines and then gets any further information from one of us two. She seems better for it.

Little 4 year old girl who lives diagonally opposite us made us laugh today. We were in the front garden as she was i hers. Her mum has had her plant some small things to grow in a corner and today's lesson was weeding. Great, she managed it well. Mum had to take a phone call at which point the little girl picked up all of her dandelions and daisies and deposited them in next doors planter.smile Fortunately mum just saw her and spent 10 minutes collecting them all. She moved them to safety but in the meantime  she noticed that the young lassie had decided that one of the plants in said neighbours planter was getting too big so dug it out. Oops.

Methinks she might need a bit more schooling but she is keen.smile

Not as warm as that brue, about 15c in the front garden and 5c in the back garden frown we still had a stiff breeze (you will remember them) now clouded over and looks like rain.

However headache went late morning so it was out in the garden for me, warm or not. I've managed to give one of the bushes a good cut back and then turned over the soil all along that border.

OH got the shredder out and minced up all cuttings, lot easier to get them away once the recycle centre opens. We have 5 big bins now full.

Pleasant surprise when I lifted up the big green compost bin, I found a hedgehog buried in the leaf litter.smile Good job I was careful lifting the leaves as the poor thing could have ended up in with the minced up cuttings. Leaves now put back where they were, did check that it was a live one (it is) green bin now back over the pile to protect it, there is a small door at the bottom so it can get out no problem. Looks like a fully grown adult as its quite big. OH now tasked with making a hedgehog house. What do you feed them?

Very pleasant day in South Cheshire, a few white clouds but little breeze - just enough to gently stir the drying clothes laughing.

Friendly chitchats { a la Norman Evans } and getting a bit of local scuttle-butt. { Neighbour's father just this week returned by rail from his daughters home in France  and non too chuffed at getting 12 days of only his own company}.   Another neighbour getting a daily work-out 'cos her young son only knows one speed to pedal at so his mum is covering enough miles for both of 'em. Racing / homing pigeons are uniting with the feral town birds in raising the alarm when that dratted sparrowhawk drifts around.

Me ??  gently folding the towels N socks away then I'll occupy myself waving the steam iron in the general direction of a shirt or six wink.

    Now it's coffee time  cool

Oh Tammygirl a hedgehog 😃. Dried kitten food or wet food NO FISH NO MILK few if any Mealworms, they leech calcium I believe. If no kitten food dog or cat food just chopped up finely. Forgot to mention water a shallow conrainer of water is great, I use a flowerpot saucer, the birds like it too for a bath 😂 You'll need to visit the diary of a sniffer in lockdown I think it's called. Houses and other tips there!

Nice afternoon here, but now clouded over, still warm though.

After lunch I prepared 3 leeks and 600g of potatoes, plus a few garlic cloves, and OH has made soup.  Garlic and leeks sautéed in olive oil, chopped potatoes added and also sautéed, then boiling water added, and a couple of veggie stock pots, simmered for 30 minutes.

OH then blitzed it with the hand blender, not totally smooth, but enough so she can enjoy it (leeks can be tricky for her to digest).

I have not tried it yet, but it is apparently delicious.  Meantime I was down in my workshop (garage) working on the second secret birthday present for DIL's brother.

In between all that we had FaceTime with DD and Callum, and he had to see me flying my remote control little helicopter.

Mince and tatties with bashit neeps for dinner tonight I believe.

I was given the choice, and decided on that rather than spag bol.
