No problem getting folk to stay indoors up here this morning, it was mighty chilly.

Never mind rapped up well and back on with the gardening, this time the big mixed bed. Lots more digging up crocus, picking out those that flowered and disposing of those that didn't. Yesterdays offerings were collected by a young couple who have just moved into a new house in the village. Hope they know what to do with them laughing

OH was doing 'stuff' in his shed while I did the garden, haven't managed to finish it all but after 4 hours decided I'd had enough and as I have plenty of time to do it why rush laughing

This afternoon the sun decided to come out and the wind dropped a bit so we went for a cycle ride. Managed 5 miles this time legs not so heavy, back breaking though with all the bending.  Sun then decided to play hid and seek so came back indoors.

Roast dinner now in the oven and smelling good, almost ready for serving. Been trying to lose weight but not making much progress so far frown

Wherenext I think my night-time getting an online shop was a complete fluke. I've tried on other nights at various times set by nature you understand 😉 - no joy.

Just have to rely on friends and neighbours for now and keep trying!

Just had a couple of Waitrose ready meals for dinner..... Cottage Pie....pretty sure we have tried it several times before and liked it, but this time it was very spicy.   Disappointing.  frown

Sadly 'they' 'improve' their products and not all of us like the changes 😔. A bit like at work, new person has to be seen to be 'doing' and despite cries from those with the experience they push on. Then eventually move on 'claiming successes' in previous positions 😉😉 on their CV 😲

I remember when our daughter was a baby a very well known washing powder 'IMPROVED' result horrendous nappy rash. I came to dread those claims on any product - still do! They however reverted back to the original formula but it took years before I trusted them again.

I think you have solved the "mystery".  OH went and read the reviews of both the cottage pie and the shepherds pie and it seems that when they changed the containers some months back they also changed the recipe, and not for the better!

Unfortunately we bought the 3 for £7 offer of both, so still have 4 meals in the freezer.  So we remembered correctly, it was nice, but no longer is.  Pity.

Back to M&S next time then.

A beautiful day here, food delivery on the way, some substitutions, mostly for our elderly neighbours, I hope they will understand. Seems like a big order with someone else's tacked on!

Farm shop fruit, veg and free range eggs arriving later, it's doing us good I think, all this fresh stuff!?

Good bit of rainfall overnight so that will help our veg plot, daughter's partner working the organic farm land each day...makes a change from blowing a trumpet! wink

as OH is away looking after MI, am re-learning the art of cooking, dont do much when OH home. Not really into ready meals but have found with a bit of imagination you can knock up some tasty meals quickly and cheaply.

As sun was shining yesterday got out small bbq and had a sausage sizzle, with beans, leeks, tomatoes and garblic bread, today to work it off, have rubbed down garage door frame and undercoated, gloss maybe later & groomed the dog.

As i have an abundance of eggs, local bakery that is now closed was giving them away, a nice omelette , with leek and cheese filling, yes i do love my leeks, but coming to end of season now. For desert, sponge cake with ice cream, Gdaughter made me a massive sponge last week with a cream filling so need to eat quickly before it goes off, then 2 days of fasting laughing or back to yogurts

Gorgeous day, so will jog fido round the golf course, ideal place to exercise as no golf being played.

Must admit am finding living alone quite strange but lots to do, and massive pile of magazines to read that i stored up for our now cxld trip to Spain.

So far today I've not achieved much, after the hard work in the garden over the last few days decided I'm having a morning off.

Very windy here but we do have some sun playing hide and seek, not warm by any means. Still the benefit of that is less folk want to go out wink

OH doing his ring around to see how his list of vulnerable folk are doing.

Might get the cardigan finished this afternoon on the knitting machine, started it before going to Lanzarote, just got the 2 fronts to do then put it all together and do the bands. That's if I can remember how to do the bands laughing

Got a bit of a headache today surprised don't normally do headaches. Just hoping it because I didn't sleep very well last night, rather than something sinister. I take my (and OH's) temp twice a day just to be on the safe side. BIL was advised to do this by his GP, I know he is vulnerable but thought it wouldn't hurt us to do the same.

Still hearing many cars going up and down the road, wonder where they are all going.

Brue who's won the lottery with a food delivery? Almost regardless of subsitituations 😀.

Your daughters partner needs to blow his trumpet, helping to feed us is very commendable!

Just had a telephone  chat with friend up the road, shes not managed an online order yet again. We've both been exchanging local delivery folks but both finding that what's in the boxes isn't always our choice. Anyway shes bitten the bullet and her order will arrive on Saturday, then we can discuss again. We have also said that we can share a box - but both households self isolating so 20 doors or so away could prove fun 🤔.

I have watered the garden and my big pots in the front garden, saw no one whilst out there 😉. As we've had a sprinkling, and that's generous, of the moist stuff.

Had earmarked today to blitz dining room, felt down and didn't fancy but an hour or two in the garden restored my mood, plus a good natter with neighbour/friend. Very grey here but the birds are beautifully vocal 😀

Tammygirl I thought I could have a headache when I got up this morning 😱. I'm not normally one for them, then coughed and considered the throat situation. Don't have a thermometer at the moment one on its way but ordered early last week. Amazing how the mind can run riot........ but everything smells and tastes fine!

Friend's husband is on day 15 of the virus they live in Northumberland but be came down to see his sister from NZ who went to the Alps and seems to have infected her brothers and sisters here, before her family of 5 got back on the plane to NZ...........

Another friend who dropped shopping off a week ago seems to have all the symptoms too - so glad I have acquired OCD and wipe everything over, including bananas and fruit with a mild bleach solution when it arrives. I have never cleaned shopping bags, inside and out handles included unless there had been a leak 😱

Do you good to have a day off, pamper yourself

Interesting....Waitrose will not put up OH's review of the cottage pie as it "does not meet their guidelines"

I asked her what she had said, and this is her review........

We have had this several times before, but not for a few months. The taste has changed, it was sharp and spicy tasting, and less meaty, we both thought the same. Unfortunately we bought the 3 for £7 offers of both this and the Shepherds Pie, which I now see also has several poor reviews, so have another 4 meals in the freezer

    So entirely truthful.

I'm afraid if my OH tried one of those pies he'd probably think it was ok! His sense of smell and taste has declined over the years. So they'd get a good review....which just shows you how subjective reviews are. I tend to make those type of potato topped pies myself and I go for Pieminster pastry pies on the delivery list.

We've sorted and delivered the grocery delivery to our neighbours. Now I've had a question about repeat prescriptions and not getting an order slot on the phone etc. I'm hoping their family might step up to the plate, a lot of medication involved....undecided?

Yes, a review is only that person's opinion, OH did however notice that a few others were of a similar opinion.

We usually keep a few ready meals in the freezer for when we do not feel like cooking, and pop a few in the caravan freezer when we go away.  They are also handy when we have not been getting home from the work at DD's until after 6pm for the last 18 months as we do not like to eat too late in the evening.

Hope you get those prescriptions sorted brue, is it a delivery service they use?

Perhaps Waitrose have got the message Kj?! wink

No, our neighbours have always refused a delivery service so we are where we are, so to speak. One of them has a serious immunity problem and if all this can be sorted it might help in the future. Being independent is one thing but planning ahead is also good. They get in such a muddle. However the family have told me they phone twice a day and I'm just hoping they consider the prescriptions needed. (wishful thinking...mustn't grumble!)

We are OK for prescriptions at present, having got an 8 week supply some 3 weeks ago, we order on line via the surgery website, the prescription then goes, in our case, to the pharmacy next door, though it can be sent to the one of your choice.

We can also order by phone, as we used to back in the "old days".

We always pick up ourselves, so no idea if they deliver, I know Boots do deliveries.  Something we may need to consider in the future.

    Kj

I didn't even realise you could review Waitrose ready meals, I have just had a look. Perhaps they have "improved" the taste because several people seem to be complaining that the cottage pie (not sure if its the same one) was too bland or wasn't spicy enough so I expect its a no win situation. Margaret and I will often have a different opinion on the same ready meal. I get away with comment provided someone else has made itsmile

Neither did I David, but my chief shopper seems to know about these things!

This is their own brand cottage pie, they do have other brands too.

I can only say that last time we had it, a few months back, it was very meaty and delicious and we both really enjoyed it.  But this time it had a sort of vinegary taste and also seemed to have far too much pepper in it, and I am not adverse to Indian food and other spicy dishes, but cottage pie just should not be sharp and spicy like that.

OH went looking for the guidelines that she had apparently unwittingly broken, but could not find any guidance regarding reviews.

    Bland it certainly was not!

KjellNN don't try the tesco ones they are sloppy and tasteless. M&S shepherds and cottage pies are reasonable and the gastro range is great. I tested plenty last year whilst OH  in hospital, there's an M&S store in the hospital so I chose my dinner on the way out. Some of their complete meals good as well, they also do count on us ones less calories too. You don't have to stick to UK meals they have various country's ones too!

First be allowed out to shop, second get to M&S and don't worry about the prices. 😂😃

    Thanks for the tips B2!

Agree, M&S are good, we are regular customers, don't think we have ever had anything not good from them......and Waitrose too up till now.

I particularly like their carrots and oranges.

If I say to OH, that was good, where did you get it, the answer is always  either M&S or Waitrose.

I think we may have occasionally tried something from Tesco's top range, but very occasionally, and sometimes Morrison's best, but again very rarely.  Asda is a no no, we shopped there for meat once when away in the van and it was not good.

Just one bad experience can really put you off!

Some of Lidl's and Aldi's stuff is fine, though I did have occasion to return some burgers to Lidl as they were full of gristle.  Again, we had had and enjoyed them before, so it was unexpected and very offputting.

It was our neighbour opposite's funeral this afternoon.  She died of cancer 2 weeks ago.  She wasn't very old and their little lad is only 10. We couldn't go to the funeral of course so we all stood outside to pay our respects when the cortege came to collect the husband and son.  So very sad that a young boy is now going to have to grow up without his mother.

I am sorry to hear about your nephew moulesy.  I hope he is making a good recovery and will be back home with his family soon.

Oh milliehull how sad. He certainly won't be the last youngster at this time. Those nurses who have died have 3 children each. 😥😥😥

It's lovely that you could stand as the cortege came. Did they bring her home? It was the way of things years ago and still is on our road, and it was in mum's village when she passed away.

Sad day indeed Millie. I know how we were affected as children when we lost my mother, 3 of us still in school. I seemed to come out of well but my sister never really recovered and it has led to some serious mental health issues. I hope the young lad goes on to lead a balanced life.
