The raised veg bed is back on, our Eastern European neighbours are leveling their garden (we live on the side of the Mimram Valley ),this morning a friend of theirs with a skip lorry arrived with a full load of free "soil" from a building site with no where to take it,
As it could not get to their house ,i agreed they could dump it on the corner out side our house on the verge, so we now have a raised veg bed filled with about 700kg of"soil"
And it is much better quality soil than we have in this area,
our is more stones.chalk and clay

Just back home after giving the 'ducky' a run 'cos I've got to be able to start it this week due to several 'must not miss' appointments.
Had several sad phone calls and texts this morning from Aging and Must stay isolated family so there will be very few at my nephews funeral on Thursday morning, but, amazingly, the Undertaker states that up to thirty mourners ( 30
) can attend. I think that figure will be amended closer to the day, though I will be surprised if we get to double figures due to most of the elder members being told to stay in isolation. Still we will see
Take Care please

Commiserations ABM. Do what is safe, uncertain times.

Councils seem to be moving towards 'direct burials or cremations', i.e. no service before interment and no mourners at the graveside. Leeds council has gone further and been offering only cremations for the last 2 weeks.
Take care.

We watched the one from Wales last night brue. Some fascinating history.

Our large general refuse bin will be collected on Tuesday, but it is less than 1/4 full, while our smaller recycling bins, which are not being emptied, are stuffed. Just contemplating whether to transfer some of the recycling into the bin that will be emptied, as we have nowhere to store months of recycling.
Perhaps like our council they will change there mind. We lost the last two weekly recycling collection and thought it was for the duration. However, they have reconsidered and now say they have enough staff and vehicles to start them up again. Just as well as we have no spare capacity in the general bin ( which is what we were told to use) until we stop putting in fire ash.

Our recycling bin collections have been suspended, mainly because of Social Distancing Regs. The crew have to be split across the 2 lorries, so they now arrive about 2 minutes apart, rather than the previous 10 minutes or so, but collect only the general rubbish bins.
The Council has instructed householders to throw waste food in the general rubbish, and to cut down on DIY and gardening to reduce pressure on bin capacity and overall services.
Happy to oblige!

Although it's "No Chores Day", mainly so we know it's Saturday, I got bored and decided to finish off the de-mossing the drive, thanks Ttda for suggestion.
We went for our walk this morning. We were going to walk, on PFs, through a local estate, farm not housing, but some local idiots have been causing trouble there and signs were up making it clear that the farmers weren't bothered if nobody ever used the Pfs again! We would have behaved but I don't need to get close up and personal with anyone at the moment (Mrs WN excepted) so we diverted. Can't blame the farmers just the other prats!

We have had a day mainly at home. Brief dog walk this morning, then I got my big sink pond all sorted, including fountain thanks to OH. Pooch has spent most of day in garden, so he hasn’t been far tonight.
We have our own local specialist brand of thoughtless fools here today. Roads are very quiet, so, it’s been race your clapped out hatchback day today, with all the accompanying noise. I strolled to end of road and got three of them on a photo, number plates visible, so they are off to Police tomorrow as requested.
Tomorrow if I hear them I shall don my hi viz jacket and take my hairdryer. That will scare the oil out of some of them.

And the same from me too. Fingers crossed that they are soon on the way to a full recovery.

Another day of room blitzing. Just 2 to go now PHEW! Forecast for tomorrow is going to allow me a day off preferably sitting in the garden with a book.
Definitely more traffic movements today, shame I was enjoying the quiet. Glad were not the only ones suffering idoitic speeds, heard a motorbike going like the clappers, our road 20mph and the one behind over the estate at the rear is 40mph.
Our city council us still doing normal refuge collections thankfully. But our civic amenities sites, recycling and waste, are closed. Other councils in the county have stopped some or all of theirs and fly tipping is becoming an issue! Essential journey??? False economy in many ways.
Still unavailable to get online shopping anywhere 😱. Waitrose site now allows me to see slots their vunerable message has gone. I have one for 21st with Tesco but one before 😂😂😂 would be nice! Still neighbours and friends are keeping us afloat but I don't like to ask each for too much especially as there are limits on some items.
OH who was told he fell into the high risk category in telephone consultation with cardiac consultant recently, it came as no surprise 😉, still hasn't heard from ?government/NHS? Re vulnerability so I'm not surprised that Wherenext and his MIL haven't either, a friends son in law who's had a kidney transplant hasn't. Either its overwhelming or random 🤐🤔
Stay safe folks.
DEBSC speedy recovery to your family.
Sorry probably missed folks out but lots to remember 😯

We have no food waste for the council to collect. Anything like potato peelings or eggshells goes into our waste disposal unit and is ground up, otherwise we do not waste food.
Not doing any new DIY that generates waste, and gardening is minimal at present.
What we do have is paper and cardboard, mainly from junk mail, and glass, tins and plastic, which would normally be recycled.
We have pretty minimal waste compared to some households as only the 2 of us. Recycling bins we take 4 weeks to fill, the big general waste bin could take 8 weeks if we left it till totally full.

With the local tip closed and our council not taking away garden refuse for the foreseeable future I reckon that air pollution will markedly increase as we all (or most of us) resort to bonfires.
Seems to be a half baked idea from our local dignitaries.

My wife, Elaine, has just found a video of the First Minister's Q&A from the daily Scottish Government Coronavirus Press Briefing on 31st March.
The journalist is from Wave FM and is called Gregg Flucker [he says it is pronounced 'Fluker' ...]. Unfortunately, the First Minister mispronounced the surname ... but doesn't realise that she has done so!
Could have been worse; might have been Mr & Mrs Hucker, first names Rudolph and Daphne [known by the diminutive 'Daph']

Social distancing for refuse collectors I can understand, but if they can collect the main bin while staying safe, why can they not do the same with the other bins?
Just does not make sense, will lead to more going to landfill, and even fly tipping.

B2, keep trying with the Waitrose orders they are releasing slots each day for those who are more vulnerable. If only I could sort it for our elderly neighbours too, the family just don't seem to want to help and don't appear to understand their elderly relatives aren't coping with all this...but the relatives are very pleased we are helping, it makes them feel better (text sent to me today!)

Our recycling centre is also closed and the garden waste bins have not been collected either although both the general waste and our recycling bins was emptied on Tuesday.
It was another cloudy day and still quite cold with it. Apart from our walks it was a gardening day for us, and I started on the waterproofing of our side of the neighbours fence, with their permission I might add.

We are getting our general bins and recycle bins emptied once a fortnight, there is no emptying of the garden bins and the recycle centre is closed. We have lots of bags and bins so our gardening is still going ahead. We stopped paying for our garden bin last year when they put the price up, didn't see the point as OH still had to take most of it away in the trailer.

Garden waste, of which we have very little as we have no grass, we can cope with easily, we can always compost, but the recycling is the problem. Will get OH to check council website again before deciding what to do.
Edit....no, still no recycling being collected

We have 3 garden bins at present, no charges here as yet. If they do start charging we will tell them to take the bins back as mostly we have just prunings, which we can shred and spread as mulch.
We are already paying, with the water and waste charge included, over £4000 per year for council services.

I agree. Wonderful programme moulsey. The children are brilliant. We found that a TV channel called W are also showing a series of repeats. We also have loads of recordings of Inspector Montallbano which we love so we are keeping ourselves entertained 😊

Just this very minute checked Cheshire East councils website and all bins are being collected normally as of 2 April - but not necessarily at the usual time. Not very good really, how am I supposed to moan & grouse at 'em now

Our recycling centre has been closed so guess the contents of that bin are being stockpiled or dumped in land fill.
Really bright sunny day here today so solar panels working overtime for at least 12 hours. Clear sky’s here so plenty of activity in the heavens
