brue.  You can buy postage stamps online from the PO website - they do charge you postage though! I have ordered mine with my online grocery shop which is due next week so I hope I get them.

Oh thanks Millie I'll check with Waitrose if I can do the same or order from the PO, even easier than loitering over our printer. smilesmile

Yes, Waitrose sell stamps on line, OH noticed it when she was doing our order.

If it is a while since you did the printing labels with postage thing, they have streamlined it significantly in the last while.

If I have to put a repeat ( on line ) prescription request in to the surgery, Brue, they send the information to the chemists and, when it is ready, approximately seven days, they phone me and I have to acknowledge the call.  Then I go and stand in line for however long it takes, but they have not, yet, got as far as installing One Way Turnstiles, to stop us escaping  sealed

There certainly is: I have now discovered that my hanging baskets are not decimated due to the recent strong winds, but rather due to the b****y squirrel that is currently pulling the plants out and throwing them to the ground presumably to aid it's search for insects!!!!

It would actually be quite entertaining if it wasn't for the difficulty in buying replacements at the moment😁

My repeats are all done via the chemist ,when I pick them up it is printed on the bag when the next will be ready to collect, and if I am due for a review, it is done by phone to the surgery , unless they want me to visit

He’s trying to find his hidden nuts AB, the little blighters are at it here as well. I have a lawn riddled with holes. To add insult to injury, they leave me the nutshells as well! I had to resort to putting wire mesh over my pots when bulbs were first showing, I kept finding bulbs on floor! They are funny to watch though......🐿🐿🐿

I'd say to anyone at the moment, due to the contagiousness of Covid19 (my virus was quite rare) to keep out of shops etc as much as you can. Order on line if possible till our "normal" world returns. If I have to collect anything eg from the chemist I ring first to see if it's ready. It's going to get worse so I prefer to adapt now rather than risk more contacts. Stay at home!

I would agree, although I have never done on-line shopping. Normally OH does all our shopping but she is 100 miles away just now caring for 93 year old mother in law, so i am having to do all my own shopping.Trying to get a slot i find is very frustrating to the point where i have given up.

Have got a plan worked out to visit village centre once per week, went yesterday and very very quiet, I guess that is probably as a result of so many people doing on-line shopping. All shops in village have got good methods in place to ensure the 2m rule is enforced. My aim is to maintain a full larder, freezer and sufficient food for fido just in case I am laid low.

I do visit my local One Stop every day to get a newspaper and milk when required, and i just pick up odd items, they have a brilliant 1 way system and i do check through window to see how many people are in the store, not many at 0715 hrs, gambling maybe, i do wear surgical gloves and face mask and always pay by card, fingers crossed it will be sufficient.

Brian, probably right it did seem very confused. It waited at out front gate a bit like a dog waiting to be let in!!! I was surprised there was no one out looking for it. Mind you I have not seen them in our part of MK before so perhaps it was just a test run?

As I understand it the "priority list" will depend on who is compiling it.

Advanced age does not put you on the NHS list of those who must stay home and away from others for 12 weeks, that is for those with conditions that put them at serious extra risk should they catch the virus, like Millie's son.  Surprised though  WN that you are not on the list.

Then there are the unofficial lists that places like Waitrose and the churches have compiled using the info they hold on you, namely your date of birth, and are using that to offer extra services to those people, such as help with shopping and priority for on line shopping slots.

I agree with everyone else about the frustration of getting online delivery slots. In fact I think we are both stressing out a bit about it. However I am trying to convince myself I should be more relaxed about it. We already have two Waitrose orders in the pipeline. The funny thing is my youngest son seems to have no problems getting slots with Tesco. Mind you he is always up early and I wonder if he goes online about 5.00am to get the slots. I have tried just after midnight with no success. Hopefully the "rush" will calm down as soon as people have confidence they can get what they want.

probably not, all those who came away with 2&3 trolley loads of food when this kicked off are having to throw some away as it has gone rotten, so they will be re-stocking no doubt frown

I've had to spend a lot of time sorting out on line orders and I was surprised to see some local Waitrose slots released early evening yesterday so I grabbed one. Today I've been amending the two forward orders and note that items have already been removed by Waitrose. I'm also getting a few things for our elderly neighbour. I'm afraid she can't have Ariel for her glowing white washing! But I've found something else instead. I haven't bothered with Morrisons again as I'm usually the 59000th in the queue, the numbers reduce by late evening and the wait isn't too long if you're patient. I also registered with Asda. I'm feeling slightly more confident about Waitrose that things are improving slightly so I'm glad I've kept the on line hunt going, but it take a heck of chunk out of my time! Hope those of you who decide to order on line get there in the end, it requires determination and persistence. wink

Our main problem is reaching the minimum order requirement at Waitrose, have not looked at other stores yet.
We could get to it once every 6-8 weeks, but that is no use when it comes to cold meat etc, milk, fruit and veg.

Milk we need twice a week, fruit and veg weekly at least.  We find veg especially does not keep so well, hence the purchase of frozen as a back up.  We have started keeping some pre-cooked meat for lunchtime sandwiches in the freezer, which seems to work well.

We used to, way back when we did not have nearby shops, freeze milk too, we could start doing that again.

Kj, I've got  a couple of the 4 pints of milk in the freezer just in case. The fresh cauliflower and broccoli I bought the day after we got back from Lanzarote have kept very well, just finished the cauli still have a couple of bits of broccoli left. I cut them up and put them in the fridge in a zip lock bag. I sorted out the chest freezer this morning to make room for some sliced bread and a bag of rolls to go in. Freezer now full to brim.

Re pharmacies, my SIL was telling me yesterday that when her prescription is ready to collect, she goes to her pharmacy where she has a code that she puts into a machine outside (a bit like an ATM) then her 'goods' are delivered through a slide up lid thingy. Never heard of this before has anyone else.

Very chilly day here today, was nice and sunny this morning but its clouded over now.

It's rather bracing alongside the Firth of Forth. I came across a monkey who had an unusually high pitched squeak, and had to explain to him my regret that I didn't have any welding equipment ... undecided

Not if I'm just shopping for us.

However we are shopping for 3 other households, so quite a lot of things to buy, much better to go together, as its a 15 mile round trip.

OH also has a 90 year old mum in a care home, so we get things for her every now and then and take them to the home, where he can see her and talk to her  through the window. smile

Haven't even given shopping a thought today, well until I ploughed through today's posts.😁

After our deserted walk this morning I decided to tackle the moss ridden block paving drive. Don't like pressure washing it as I waste too much sand later on so half done today, the other half tomorrow.

Talking to a neighbour who took her husband to an appointment at the main hospital today. She rang yesterday to see if it was necessary and was told the injection was needed and had to be done as planned. It was in the eye department and she said they were the only patient there, she had to go back to the car to wait and half an hour later got a text to go and pick hubby up. The main car park had less than 20 cars in the visitors. She'd never seen it so quiet. No visitors allowed, hardly anyone in A&E. I suppose there are no sports injuries and less car accidents and work related ones. Nice change for the staff on duty.

Re the moss on the drive WN. Once you have got it clean, suggest throw some buckets of diluted bleach over it. It’s an old trick we used to use in the swimming pools for stopping algae growing in some of the hard to reach places. I tried it a couple of years ago up at Mums, as she has an area of path that is in the shade, and prone to moss growth. It did help. But make sure you dilute it. We used to use Sodium Hypochlorite, but it’s a bit too vicious for public areas😱 Melted your flip flops eventually........ but we all had clean feet, and no verrucas👍

Our little plan for a different walk came off nicely. Vets, small shop by me in a little Tesco (only me and 1 other in there) gloves off and sanitise in car, park up round corner, and a lovely stroll in the woods. Nice to see a different walk. Home, shopping wiped down and put away, lunch.

It's been a mossy winter with all that rain, if only the blackbirds built gigantic nests that would solve it. They take a bit of our moss which seems to have crept everywhere through the early months of the year.

Just going back to Moulesy’s post a few pages ago.... Mother Nature does continue despite the current crisis. Having set up my office in the conservatory, I’m seeing so much more wildlife than I normally would. My day job involves being in a very large air conditioned office with about 100 other people. Our windows overlook the skyline of Lincoln including views of Lincoln Cathedral. Now I’m a lone worker with a view of my garden. It’s wonderful to watch the Great Tits using the feeders and a pair of robins have been visiting. The blackbird is scaring the starlings off of the feeder and the frogs are making a racket. Working is almost a pleasure.🌲 😊

Just had an email from our county police ,as a Heads Up to remind those having a big clear up of gardens ,or doing DIY that the low lifes are still cashing in on those who need to get rid of rubbish,as most councils have closed their public tips for the duration, and as a result fly tipping is again on the increase,

As a result can those out walking be more vigilant and note any unusual activity in their areas ,and especially dog walkers as they tend ,   it has been noted,  seem are "invisible"to those who are up to no good
