Perhaps this is the answer to supermarket deliveries, although they would have to be a bit bigger for a decent shop!

All this trawling from one supermarket to another. Is it sensible?

In normal times we went to one supermarket (Booths - 7 miles away) - once a week. Now we are not going out. Not at all. So we are using online shopping (Asda). If we can’t get what we want, we do without and use something else.

We don’t use ready meals (except when away in the caravan!), so have a good stock of basic necessities and I like to think I am very resourceful.

I think the way to go is “stay at home”.

Sorry yesterdays post was limited, the reason was a re-eruption of son's tummy troubles! GP visited today, scrubs, gloves apron and mask, everything seems to be on the mend without going to hospital thank goodness.

OH's respite centre is posting some stuff with short performances from the musicians that visit the centre. a tonic in itself!

MH sorry to hear of your sons isolation and that he takes it one day at a time.

    Interesting times !!

Something went a bit awry with my Soda Bread today.undecided I blame it on the phone call half way through! Anyway it might not have been a decent loaf but sliced it did taste like a good scone. Quite nice with butter and a cup of tea. Problem is now I'm at the end of my Tapioca Flour but not ready to order any of my other weird flours. Don't want to buy Tapioca in bulk as I'll never use it all.  So goodbye soda 🍞 for a while.

We are getting to the stage where we may have to try online. Mrs WN not happy with the increased exposure risks. Wales govt hasn't classified either my 87 yo MiL as vulnerable or myself with severe CKD and Asthma so we don't qualify for preferential slots it would seem. I think we're going to have to do something.

I think so too Goldie, every visit out amongst the general public is an added risk. I ran out of stamps today and I'm not keen to go to our PO at all, it serves a big area locally.

Brue, if you have a printer, you can print labels with postage on them.

Go to   www.royalmail.com     Click on "sending" , will send you to the app then take it from there.  You can pay with a card.

If you use a PC you can instead set up an account rather than using the app.

My sister made a lovely soda bread loaf yesterday for her and Mum. She has sent me recipe to try. Being an organised little so and so, I threw out our pot of baking soda a while ago, thinking it would never get used. But Sis is adding onto her Asda order for me. I have flour already.

I’m not trawling round looking for stuff either. If it’s not in stock, I do something else. Shopping is our single biggest risk at the moment, so limiting it as much as I can. Certainly no more than once a week. Might be more difficult though if someone has limitations on what foods they can or can’t eat. WN, interesting about your Mum and you not being on the priority list. Neither is my 91 year old Mum.

Robsail, glad to hear your son didn’t need to go into hospital. A very worrying time for you, thoughts are with you, and others in similar circumstances.

We usually only go out for fresh stuff once a week at the most, but do drop into our Lidl for milk as necessary.

However, there are some things that we cannot get at Lidl, hence the trip to Asda before the weekend.  Will be pretty much keeping to Lidl now we have what we need for the next few weeks,  may even find another Waitrose delivery slot!

We are very lucky compared to many ,we have a Co op that has normally well stocked ,with a proper two window post office, and in these times is only allowing 10 at a time in store including PO,but have never had to queue, if i go there before taking Rosa for her walk, i have been at times,  the only one in the store

As yesterday we get "phantom," Waitrose  home deliveries ,via my daughters partner ,who has been seconded from his John Lewis position for the duration, via my daughters reg chats to see if we are ok

OHs son and grand daughter who are at our local Tesco extra also are  another source of home delivery

Ttda, I've tried it with SR and with Plain but I need a combination of Rice and Tapioca as the other two don't make a great GF loaf.

I agree Goldie. We are not going out at all now other than a daily walk round the sports field opposite - we didnt see another soul today. After some persistence I have managed a couple of online delivery slots and what we cant get we will do without. Too much risk mixing with others.

Robsail sorry to hear abour your son but pleased to hear he didnt have to go into hospital. Best wishes.

WN I am also surprised that neither you or your MIL are classed as high risk. Also your Mum TDA. Our son's letter came from his GP surgery so perhaps it is up to them to make the decision.

Our son sent a photo of him and our grandson sitting in their snug. At least 3 metres between them but he was glad of the company.

We are even more fortunate. When our next door neighbour was building his extension he had a low wall built, with our agreement, along the boundary line that is our fence line, from the extension to the back wall of his garden, and topped it off with a fence. I just wonder if I should suggest that I maintain the fence from my side.

Good news that your son doesn't have to go to hospital, Robsail, that's certainly a relief for you.

We went to Iceland and Aldi yesterday, around 10:00, and didn't have to queue at either. There was very little we weren't able to get, brown sugar and small oranges, but plenty of milk, bread, meat, green veg and fruit, eggs, and there were stocks of toilet rolls too although we didn't need any. Walked from the car park for an hour or so and when we got back there was a long queue at Aldi, and also at Tesco when we passed on the way home, so didn't bother seeing if they had the bits we didn't get.

It's very quiet round by home and I'm able to get out for our dog walks without meeting many folks. We did have the first rain for over 2 weeks this morning but it only lasted a short while, and OH was able to get washing done and dried outside after lunch..

I'm rediscovering all the local walks that we used to do before we started spending all our leisure time in The Cheviots!

Hebburn Riverside is only a 10 minute walk from our front door and is really nice at this time of year. It's also only a 20 minute walk to Jarrow, where there is a really interesting mixture of industrial landscape and heritage areas to see along the banks of both the Tyne and River Don.

We liked our trip to Jarrow last year. Visited Bedes Church & the visitor centre nearby. Found it fascinating. We like a bit of industrial heritage. It's all history.

We go out once a week and do our shopping, haven't even tried an online shop, leaving that to those that need it most.

When we do go out, we go early, few folk around, we shop for 3 other households all of them are elderly and one of them has cancer.

Yes it would be nice to sit at home and not put ourselves at risk but someone has to help those less fortunate than ourselves.

We take all the precautions we can, lets just hope that this situation eases before to long, although I think we haven't reached the worst yet.

Not everyone can drive and not everyone are able, but nearly every post regarding going out shopping is a 'we', not an 'I'. Do you really need to shop in pairs?

I have been out to a supermarket once, Morrisons-that's the closest and its 18 miles-and a couple were asked if they needed to both go in the store. The staff said it was OK but they had to ask and then , as it was one in one out, they had to wait for two people to come out.

This morning I had an email from Sainsburys and they are now only allowing one person per trolley and others will have to wait outside, however this does not affect children accompanying you.

We walk so most times we need two to carry purchases.  A couple of bottles of milk, potatoes and other veggies and the weight mounts up., one of the problems getting older.   The time we go, late afternoon, the shops usually pretty empty.  We live about half a mile from Morrison's

Our ALDI is quite old Kj.  There is a Lidl about 6 miles or so away, which is also quite old now.  Haven't been there for quite a few weeks now.

Our Tesco was refurbished a couple or so years ago, with an upstairs added, the aisles are wider than both ALDI and Lidl.  There is also a newish ASDA quite near in the opposite direction, but for some reason I haven't been there very often.  Personal preference I suppose.

Then there is a Booths, I have been in there a few times, but not for regular shopping, a bit on the pricy side!

And a new M&S Foodhall was opened just before last Xmas, which has affected Booths to an extent since it opened.

So like you, we do have plenty of choice.

Much warmer this morning when out with Rosa  ,took really long way round today ,, via OHs daughters house to drop off card ,49yrssurprised then back through woods lots of Bluebells in flower, with many thousands  in bud, very noisy with birdsong laughing Rosa then met some of her "play mates" as we crossed the fields,

After getting home ,took a walk to Co op , got everything on "the list"that was waiting when we got back , wink

Manager was saying they think its the lull before the next panic buy  as he says the food that was bought in the first rush ,must either be ready to throw away or the home stocks are getting low about 3months leftfoot-in-mouth

Noticed in our local paper that many more dogs had been found homes , since first "advise" about the virus, was issued ,I just hope that they still have homes when? ,this dangerous period is overundecided,

Wonderful photo M, I can’t help thinking that a great deal of our wildlife is having a wonderful time without the presence of interfering humans.

Might be an exciting day for us today. Have to go and pick up some vet meds from a not so close vet, so we are thinking of both going in car, one into vets, then onto our nearest little shop for some milk, and one or two other essentials, and then, a further 100 metre drive takes us to our usual woodland walk. We haven’t been for two weeks, rarely see anyone on a normal day, so going to go for it. All depends if meds are ready..........

Just over ten years ago I caught an awful virus that affected my brain, balance and eyesight and made me very ill. The GP said it was the sort of thing that floats around in more confined spaces like supermarkets. It has left me very aware how viruses get passed on and I'd say to anyone at the moment, due to the contagiousness of Covid19 (my virus was quite rare) to keep out of shops etc as much as you can. Order on line if possible till our "normal" world returns. If I have to collect anything eg from the chemist I ring first to see if it's ready. It's going to get worse so I prefer to adapt now rather than risk more contacts. Stay at home!

They are delivery pods. Video here to show them working in MK. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbQN-a2d1s0

We were having lunch and I just happened to look out the window to see the illuminated orange flag, thought it was a Dutch bike! The trouble with out little estate is that some house have both fronts and rears backing onto a road so I think it was getting confused as to where exactly to go.

    Brue

There was something on the news that suggest the propulsion of the virus when someone sneezes can (and perhaps when they cough) travel far further than the two metre suggested distancing. Initially they thought that the droplets fall to the ground within the two metres but are now suggesting finer droplets can travel much further. It was all to do with whether we should wear face masks as they do in some countries and whether that would give greater protection. Still doesn't quite explain how somebody who is asymptomatic passes the virus on?

Agree. We are ringing later to see if pet drugs ready. I have tried five nights running now, two supermarkets logged on on two devices trying to get either a delivery or click and collect, but nothing at all. Nearest Tesco click and collect is miles away, our local store is a mere half mile away, but I know it has long queues, and not everything available. I am avoiding using it, it’s high risk for not enough gain. We are enjoying lots of different meals though, I am in full Cornwall camping in the 1980’s, when the shops are miles away, and don’t open on a Sunday mode😁
