Well done Bakers2 .....I can happily say I was sound asleep during your frenzied shopping in the early hours.😊💤. We can’t get any online shopping, as all slots are reserved for vulnerable status, and quite rightly so. We went to Waitrose on Monday teatime and all was good. Trolley handle sanitised as we entered the store and checkouts manned to keep people spaced apart.
I have a day off work today, so I decided to take a look and see what this daily Joe Wicks workout is all about.....😮😳🚴‍♀️🏋️‍♂️🤺 oh my word....I must be sooooo unfit! 😂 I think I need a restful afternoon!

ADD46 if OH wasnt in the vulnerable slot I wouldn't be making the effort. But feel I should make an effort as friends and neighbours have been great, but dont like to ask for too much from one or heavy stuff as folk combining with their exercise.

Waitrose and Iceland are upfront with vulnerable but are alledgedly awaiting government tie in. Tesco, Asda and Morrison say nothing, Sainsbury not taking in new folks. I registered OH a week ago but registered as me with Waitrose and Iceland so re-registered as him so should tie up eventually 🤞. Once this hotspot passes I may try in person but decent risk at the moment.

Not had time to try exercises been gardening and now starting on washing down the bathroom and giving it a really good go over!

Anyone heard from HelenandTrevor seems ages since I read anything from them.

Cleaning calls - oh my I think I've lost the plot 😱😱😱🤐

Our heating engineers arrived on Monday and by yesterday afternoon the new boiler was installed and up and running laughing.  After over 2 weeks without I will NEVER take heating and especially hot water for granted again.

So pleased you got a delivery slot Bakers2. You must be feeling more relaxed now.  I can see us all getting up in the middle of the night to try and get a slot! I tried at 6.00 am on Monday but wasn't successful so a lot of people must have been busy in the wee small hours.  I am surprised that the plumbers wouldn't go out to your friend.  Our heating engineers told us that they and plumbers are classed as key workers.  Have you sorted out the source of your noise yet?

Started sunny here, but now clouded over, not too cold though.

Final sanding of the birthday present and then I will hand it over to OH for surface finishing before I assemble it.

We were watching a report on TV last night about nurseries having to bin millions of £s of plants, and may go bust.  The annual/bedding plants of course only last one year, but they were just talking about "plants, shrubs and trees" as if they were all the same.

Other plants can be moved on into bigger pots to, hopefully, be sold next year, plants in general  are sold in different sizes, so I would have thought there is no need to  bin everything.  This of course would mean more cost for the nurseries when they have little or no income, but with some  government support would at least keep them in business.

I wonder what is happening on this front in other countries, like Holland, where horticulture is a huge business?

Waitrose and Iceland are upfront with vulnerable but are alledgedly awaiting government tie in.

    B2

Waitrose are gathering a lot of information on older customers from their My Waitrose and Partnership Card records. The Government vulnerability criterion is much more restricted than at first thought. I think the latter could take some time to get to the supermarkets. Waitrose send out an email to customers with a link and when we looked there were spaces but as we already have a couple of slots already booked they don't extend very far into the future so you have to keep trying. We had a delivery from Iceland yesterday which was OK but quite a few bits missing and because they don't stock a very large range they have limited options for substitutions. One advantage of Iceland is that their minimum order (without extra cost) is only £35. They are good for a lot of the basics but not so good for a big shop.

If anyone wondered where all the old plastic bags went when the supermarkets stopped using them they are now being used for online shopping, 40p a shop!

Thanks David. I wasnt a member of my waitrose, we both are now 😉. Our waitrose is in another town, I very ocassiona pop in if I'm  that way.

Despite OH being vulnerable  he's not had 'the letter's and talking to someone else who's on chemo hes not either , so suggested he registers. For talk read text! However OH did get a text to say he's  extremely clinically vunerable so registering must work. I didnt hold out much help for websites talking to each other - ordinarily I'd be very glad. Hence chasing delivery slots.

80 item limit is good but if you don't know when you'll get another slot it makes it difficult. Ho hum.

Milliehull everything much quiter this morning thanks but if you touch the pipes you can feel the vibrations. Leaving very well alone at the mo! Yes I understood plumbers heating engineers etc would be key workers too.

Right lunch over back to the bathroom, half the tiled walls done we are tiled floor  to  ceiling. Why am I so vertically challenged with living with  high ceilings?? Managing with steps on most walls, around fittings, but over the bath 😯. Proves my point, when this is over I will need to employ a person who can reach, itll be the same for all rooms! 😉😉.

Edit I'm enjoying listening, without falling asleep! As happens at bedtime, to the latest Hillary Mantel book which is on radio 4 or iplayer, we're into week 3 so limited time for first weeks. 'Cromwell' from the TV series is reading it, oh yes names arrived Mark Gatis 😀

Went shopping this morning about 10 minutes wait to get into sainburys but apart from hand wash all stocked up.

I noticed that petrol is now 105p per litre and diesel 111p, typical isn't it, now we can't go anywhere fuel is cheap.

Our local 103p petrol and 105p for diesel, and I have nearly a full tank at the more expensive previous rate frown

Corners, mathematical but the answer 'why' lies elsewhere I suppose.

Lots of adverts on TV have below it in small writing "73% of 127 people surveyed" or something similar in numbers. Surely it can't be true as you would end up with a part of someone surprised

This morning I got the feeling that everything is pre-determined, pre-destined or some such undecided

Being the First of the Month I turned the page over on my "Grumpy Cat" calendar and what did I find I hear you ask ?

Its been a lovely morning so we have both been out in the garden. Me doing the gardening and OH giving both of our bikes a serious clean and maintenance.

I must have dug up hundreds of crocus bulbs over the last couple of days. I like them but only where I 'want' them not were they or the birds decide they should go laughing

Came in for lunch and now the clouds have formed and its looking decidedly chilly again, so I'm not going back out. Lower back sore so enough is enough or I'll not be able to move tomorrow.

I've never done any online shopping as never had the need to, following the posts on here I don't think I would go down that route anytime soon. Thankful that we are both able to go out and get our shopping, which we will do tomorrow morning. I have already been given a list from my neighbour and my sister, along with a request from BIL to collect his magazine.

We are only going shopping once a week, that way we can make sure we are OK after each trip before going again. Its the only time that we are around other people, so that would be the only time we could 'catch' something.

Our Co op is limited to 2 shoppers [4 people if 2 couples], and even then, because of the way they squeezed the shelves closer during the last refit, there's a couple of places where the 'entering' and 'exiting couples are within 2 metres.

The 2 metres distance is observed in the queue outside the store, and we try to make the shopping as brief as possible but to drag our feet at the approach to the 'less than 2 metres' zones. Just gets a bit difficult if you're a wee bit preoccupied, i.e. focused on the bog roll quest and 'switch off' momentarily.

Just got the e mailed receipt for this evening's Waitrose delivery, disappointingly, all the 6 various easy to cook chicken dishes are going to be missing, as are the courgettes.  frown

Just as well OH added considerably to our  original order!  And  just as well we still have a fairly reasonable stock in the freezer.  The delivery is late evening, so we are eating from our stock today.

Anxious as to whether what we are getting  will have good use by dates, or whether most of the meat will have to be frozen.

DD rang this morning to see if we wanted anything from Aldi or M&S as SIL was going shopping there, we only asked for milk, but apparently he gave up and came home as there was a big queue to get into Aldi.  No idea what he considers a big queue as he is renowned for his complete lack of patience!

Done plenty of "On Line" shopping, TG, but never for food and such, so I've not long been back indoors after giving the Ducky a trial start-up. Yesterday it was as flat as a lone sheet of toilet tissue ( embarassed ) so Mayday had the pleasure of my company.  Mr Mechanic fired the old girl up nicely and I gave her a 20 mile drive to, hopefully, push a few amps into the  battery. Today, just after a light lunch to bolster my flagging confidence - one turn of the key and away she roared merrily.

So tomorrow with a stout heart and a following wind, I will be doing a shopping trip into ASDA Crewe ( Largest car park & FREE at present  money-mouth  ) so I should be OK for Easter at least if all goes well  and  I find an egg, chocolate, tinsel wrapped and edible ! Now It's the first of the Month so my accounts are calling.  Now Keep  the Faith children,  take great care, and look after each other until I get back & bore you all some more  wink

We have been doing likewise, and only OH has been going into the shop.   Normally we would spend under £20 weekly on milk, fruit and veg, cheese, cold meat, yoghurts and odds and ends, so not enough for a regular weekly delivery.

Once every 6-8 weeks we go to M&S or Waitrose to stock up on our favourites that can go in the freezer, usually  because they have sent us  discount vouchers.

So this first order, particularly the use by dates,  will certainly influence the decision whether to have a second go, or revert to going to the shop.  Certainly under normal circumstances OH would prefer to go in person as we have several shops within 2-3 miles of home.

Shopping for others as well as yourself is a tad problematic. There are still limits on how many of certain items you can buy.  So two packs of loo rolls each for three people isn’t going to happen.

Exactly, Aldi had packs of 4, 8, 12 and 24 rolls when we went in last Friday. Some were still trying to get 2 x 24 in their trolleys. Staff vetoed them at the till smile

Tomorrow I'm going shopping for myself, my sister and my neighbour. OH will accompany me and do the neighbours shopping I will do the other 2 lots. Once at the till I put the goods on the belt and then the shopping line along side it, then the 'next customer' thingy before putting the next lot on the belt. Worked well last week no problem in Aldi or Asda.

OH had a phone call from one of his chums this morning, he is in his mid 70's and has serious health issues so not going out. He was moaning that he's fed up sitting around and that his son who did his shopping for him, brought him the 'wrong' bread, he doesn't like it so he's feeding it to the birds. Seemingly he only likes white sliced, his son got him 2 x seeded bread.

I have 15 items on my shopping list, sister 14 items, neighbour 4 and one them is cat food laughing don't know how I would ever get up to 60 items.

Just done a family whatsapp video call with daughter for her birthday, she should have been in Jamaica so her father said he'd send her a palm tree instead (of which he has many due to a big palm tree in our garden  setting seed last year!) Strange that everyone is at home but great to chat, thank goodness for this type of technology. smile🌴

Earlier I did a whatsapp video walking round part of our garden looking at plants and trees, probably the worst outside broadcast ever! I sent it off to my sister and then got one back from her and a friend of hers too. I had to smile as we all forgot the names of plants as we walked around, imagine Gardener's World presenters doing that...(there was a long pause in my video as I looked at one shrub and just couldn't think what it was.) laughing

Went back to Princess Ann park today for a better look. It's a personal shame that this is my second visit in 35 years after Monday. Really good with a waterfall - well a storm drain emptying into a burn but beggars can't be choosers.

It links with the C2C cycle route (second picture) and this was the Tyne Dock to Consett railway. This is its heyday was a two track line carrying up to 20 trains a day with coal from Sunderland and iron from Consett back to the dock.

    TG,

Don't know whether you've seen or heard of this initiative, reported in the Guardian Coronavirus Blog today [Posted at 16:22 to save ploughing through pages of text!]. Looks very interesting and eco friendly to boot!

A community council in Perth has come up with an innovative way of getting food and essentials to people in need while maintaining social distancing guidance.

North Inch and Muirton community council, in collaboration with Zero Waste Perth, have built a dozen wooden Give and Take boxes which are being erected locally, and allow shoppers to leave tins and dried goods which can then be picked up safely by at-risk residents.

North Inch Muirton Community Council (@InchNorth)And there’s more! 6 ‘Give and Take’ boxes - 3 on Dunkeld Rd, 1 Balhousie St & 2 on Gowan’s Terr. The +ve response has been fantastic. These are yours - please share what’s in them with those self-isolating. #CompassionateCommunity #Lockdown #Share #LookAfterYourBoxes #Covid_19 pic.twitter.com/XbEOvg0wzV

     Next Shopping List:

'Bromide for hubby, processed cheese for the rest of us, 2/3 pack of toilet rolls, and get shoes reheeled because of the rather awkward walking style as that time approaches [what a former work colleague used to describe as 'time to park breakfast', if that's not too much information undecided]
