Kj it must be nice to be doing 'work' in your own home for a change laughing

Had a nice walk around the village out into the countryside, stood and watched farmers ploughing the fields, 3 different tractors in 3 different fields. Sun stayed out for all the walk so was really nice, even had a seat for awhile on a bench in the village square.

Still a fair amount of cars/vans on the road going through the village, I would guess its to the villages beyond us as most are avoiding the A9 roadworks where possible.

We saw more folk on our walk today than we've ever seen, I suppose normally they would be at work. Everyone saying" hello"," how you doing", all with a smile. smile

    Not so chilly to day.

I can't quite see the point of smaller pitches, no one really wants them do they? Last year we squeezed on to a C&CC pitch created from a gap in the site plan, I can't say we really liked it even though it was a hardstanding and we'd booked a hardstanding...so that's what we got. wink

After posting the above, OH e mailed them to ask what would happen if there were so many missing items that we fell below Β£60.  Reply arrived this afternoon........

Thank you for getting in touch.

I’m very sorry that you’ve been unable to book a priority delivery slot, I know this will be very disappointing.

I’d like to reassure you that we’re doing everything we can to support our customers at this time, including reserving our unbooked slots for our customers who need it most, for example if they are elderly or vulnerable.

Demand for these priority delivery slots is very high and we’re working hard to provide more. We’ll be adding new slots each day - for as many postcodes as possible - so would advise you to continue to check Waitrose.com daily and act quickly if you would like one. I appreciate this is frustrating and I am very sorry for the inconvenience.

When more delivery slots do become available, please could we ask that you only book the slot you need and be considerate of our many other customers who will also need a slot.

Thank you so much for bearing with us. If you have any further questions, please visit our FAQ page on Waitrose.com. To allow our teams to focus on providing more slots for as many of our customers as possible, please could we kindly ask that you don’t call us for the time being.

We’d like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families well, and to thank you for your patience and understanding towards all of our Partners during this time.

Oh dear!  Either someone did not read what she asked, or pressed the wrong button!!

Kj, I don't think you'll lose that many items but I know they charge Β£5 delivery if the order is under Β£60. I've spent much more than I usually do as I don't know when the next slot will be, maybe a month away?

I had to e mail them about several missing items that I'd paid for and I eventually got a good reply. Try again, you might be lucky with the response, they are very busy. OH also phoned our local store itself, he hung on beyond the press 1 & 2 bits and they answered!

We had our local farm shop box tonight, lovely to see a good random selection of mixed fruit and veg with free range eggs too. smile

Thanks brue, we too have spent a lot more than we usually do, both in case the next slot is well in the future and in the hope the final delivery will stay over Β£60, in fact about twice as much as we usually spend.

Fortunately most items can be frozen, so the delivery should last us about 3 weeks.

OH has made space in the freezer.

Good result with our April bookings with the CCC, OH just got an e mail to say our other 2 deposits would be refunded very soon.

Not a huge amount involved, but it will help with the Waitrose bill!

Oh Tammy do be careful. You never know who has been there just before you. I'm sure you will have worn your Hamzat suit to go walking though.smile

A quiet day here. Weather pretty nippy when out for a walk. The elderly neighbour was passing so we had a spacious chat. He's on crutches and uses a mobility scooter, his wife can hardly walk, they're both in their late 80s and their daughter who fetches and carries for them has the virus, she lives away fortunately. However their Pharmacy that they use and have used for the last 30+ years won't deliver their medications as they are restricting their deliveries to those clients who have used that service before the virus started. They always picked it up when they went shopping which is next door to the pharmacy. You can't believe it can you?

I offered to go down myself, or Mrs WN would go, even though I shouldn't be out. It's about 5 miles away, not in the local town. Fortunately he said that his other daughter is going to have a "word" with the pharmacist and ask them if they would like some free local publicity. If that doesn't do the trick I'll make the visit myself.

You couldn't make it up could you WN. It makes me so angry. I hope the 'suggestion' of some publicity makes them see sense.

Funny you should mention pharmacy being difficult. I order and collect Mums prescription once a month. Thought I was all organised today, as I had ordered her stuff online last week. All I had to do was collect it. So, I decided to make today my gear up and do the fetch and carry today. Bit of fresh milk, one or two other fresh items, call in last for prescription. Queued as you do, not an issue, my turn in shop, oh yes, it’s ready and bagged, all sorted. Except no. The Pharmacist was on his lunch, not in the shop, so I couldn’t have it. Meanwhile, they are loading delivery van with identical bags to take out, no Pharmacist required. You just couldn’t make it up, some of the ridiculous rules in place. I went and sat back in my car for 15 minutes, but lots of others had to stand outside in cold, and of course we all had to queue again. When I asked what was usual lunch break for Pharmacists.....”oh, they don’t have one, they go when it’s not busy” πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

When you log in to amend your order they usually have a list of item that are not going to be available and don't have substitutes. It does allow you select alternatives. Have you allowed substitutions? I am pretty sure if the substitute something and it's more expensive they charge the lower price? Have to say don't have any trouble getting to the minimum amount, it's usually nearly double that!!! Obviously depends when the next slot is.

Nothing showing up David, order is as it was yesterday.  We don't really want substitutions, so have upped the order to just over Β£100.

Will get OH to check again tomorrow morning, our cut off time for amending or cancelling is noon tomorrow, though delivery is not till late on Wednesday.   Do you know when they would actually select the items for us?

Try Tesco next time K. Minimum to get cheap delivery is only Β£40, not Β£60, and they charge Β£4 if it’s under not Β£5. I paid Β£1.50 for a 9-10pm slot last Monday. We live close to store, so it was here by 9.05pm

The pickers will sort out the order most likely in the morning K for an afternoon/evening delivery. Hence cut off for twelve noon day before.

Because of the recent demand I know some branches have people in over night picking orders for the next day. When I have been in Waitrose we often chat to one of the ladies that goes round picking the orders. I imagine the non chilled/frozen stuff can be picked earlier and the rest picked on the day of delivery. When we got our last delivery I noticed the van had several compartments which I assumed was for the different temperatures?

Yes DK, when our Tesco delivery arrived yesterday I watched the driver unloading our shopping from our window and he was getting it out of several different compartments in the van. Everything was in very good condition. There were a few unavailable items. I happened to mention this on the phone to daughter and an hour later there was a knock on the window and SIL was in our front drive. He had done a quick run to Aldi and got our missing items.😊 Apparently they are quite well stocked.

    Asda coming today!

We have had the updated order email showing what’s actually coming.

Several substitutions, but OK. Some omissions on stuff that was available when I last amended last night (now no glacΓ© cherries, so no Cherry Cake to bake).

But the good news - Markies dog treats coming for son’s dog!

Just starting on a balsa wood model of a Sopwith Camel that my son has sent me. I've made loads of plastic models in the past but this is the first time I've tackled a balsa wood one. It's very delicate and a different technique needed. It looks like it'll take some time.

I had a DIY disaster day yesterday, painting the kitchen walls I pulled the dust sheet along the worktop and in doing so the 5 litre can of paint fell onto the floor.surprised

Not the end of my incompetence though, I failed to find any masking tape so used what I thought was run of the mill sticky tape on the wall units. Only when I came to remove it I realised I was only removing the backing and I had used double sided, It's proving very very hard to remove and now going to attempt using my wifes hot air blower.embarassed

That's only one of the four walls, what else can happen on the other three.laughing

    Decorating I hate it yell

Tried and tested tips on removing sticky tape 3M type residue welcome.

We're waiting for our very first Tesco delivery tomorrow.  I was surprised how easy it was to get a delivery slot, last Friday, for just 5 days away.  Luck of the draw, I suppose.  What will turn up is anyone's guess, but I'm sure we'll manage.  We always bulk cook whenever we make a meal, so the kitchen, garage and now the caravan freezers are all full.  No - we haven't been hoarding - some of the meals have been in there for weeks if not months!

I have knocked the daily walk on the beach on the head. (The beach is about 5 minutes drive away.) Not that we are under any pressure from the local police - they have declared they are adopting a 'common sense' approach - but more out of social conscience.  Fortunately, there is a 50 acre field - currently still in stubble - behind our house, so Meg is able to have a good romp there. every morning.

Dennisd - when you've finished that project - how about having a go at one of the Billings Boat kits.  Many years ago, I built a model of "Bluenose II" - a vintage yacht with a planked hull and working rigging.  It only took about 6 months!

Dennisd, thanks for your post . You've just reminded me that I have a 1/72 scale model of a Saturn V rocket somewhere in the loft , had it for years .Now I've got to hope I can find the relative adhesive up there as well. If so that's me sorted for the next couple of weeks.πŸš€πŸš€.

Thank goodness for great neighbours and friends πŸ‘πŸ‘ still unable to secure an online shop of any description up to 20th no matter what time of the day or night I try 😱

I placed an order via fb messenger with our butcher, yesterday they open today prepared it no eggs or cooked meats πŸ˜₯ but everything else. Paid over the phone and a neighbour collected it for me. Another neighbour just off to Aldi, walking with her granny trolley, asked and so I asked for 5 things. I try to keep my requests low so as not to restrict the kind shopper if there are limits.

Had 2 deliveries yesterday, one expected including bananas we do like them. About an hour later the  doorbell went the friend who was going to shop over the weekend but couldn't do go and so went Monday 😯 only doubling up item bananas so our current song is YES we have some bananas πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. But all in all we're not doing too bad at the mo. If my latest shopper gets requested items I'll bake today or tomorrow as I have a jar of mincemeat and lots of dried fruit. I have cherries Goldie what are they worth???? Just want to ensure the butter can be replaced before using stored one.

Gave myself yesterday off - didn't feel like it. Catching up on bits and writing lists from days in the garden! So allowing ,myself another.

Dry and chilly here but washing out. Meat bags to wipe over, feel rather OCD 😯 but better safe than sorry, and then to put in the freezer - need to sort meat that remains too so all the same are kept together. Once thought were having chips  quick cook, only to find when I opened the bag it was skirt requiring a slow cook πŸ˜‚.

Sadly heard of a death locally 😒😒, lovely friendly chap, his wife couldn't be with him 😒😒. I'm hoping it was because there was no hospital visiting otherwise.....

Stay safe folk. Keep posting it's good to read something light hearted!

OH logged into Waitrose a short while ago and found that 2 of our chicken dishes, which were part of a 3 for Β£10 are not available, so she tried to add 2 others instead, but was refused as

    a) that would be more than 3 of any one item

    b) that would be more than 6 items in the Easy to Cook range

so she has deduced that an unavailable item is not automatically removed from the reckoning, you need to actually remove it yourself.

Before she could do that, the website must have got overwhelmed and she got thrown out, took 20 minutes to get back in again.  So once she had worked out how to remove these unavailable items, she was able to add 2 other items, just hope we like them!

Hard work this on line shopping when you are not used to it!

Also Deleted User a couple of other fresh items as she thought she had ordered too much, so that is it now.

Mrs M finally managed to get some bread flour on her latest shop,  so I've dusted off the notes from the course I went on when I retired and a carrot & fennel seed loaf is currently churning away in the breadmaker. There is, of course, still a question mark over the edibility of the finished product! smile
