We still get weekly collections but they have just stopped green and food waste collections (same bin) One of the reasons they give is lack of man power. Food waste now needs to be put in the black general rubbish bin but recycling clear sacks are still being collecting as is glass. One way round it might have been to change to two weekly collections but I think there might be contractual issues with the company that does the collecting on behalf of the Council? It could of course be that as green and food waste is composted perhaps there are difficulties  in that quarter?

All our bins have been on a fortnightly collection for several years now.  Works fine for us, but for those with a large family it could be tricky.

Same here but I think you can request larger bins if you need one.

Like David, our green waste has been temporarilly suspended due manpower shortages. Fortunately my compost bin is only half full so I can put grass cuttings in there until full.

Our refuse folk come round weekly and have always have done. These days though it's

week one black bin, paper, plastics and food waste

Week two brown bin, cardboard, green box and food waste

It's all kept separately, a green box for cans, glass, pairs of shoes, small electrical items and textiles. One mustn't put out lots of shoes electrical items or textiles 😱

A reusable, supplied by the council, bag for paper

    The same again for cardboard

Green bin, with supplied bags for the small supplied grey indoor one, for food

Plastics, cartons such as juice custard etc, go in a provided once a year roll of recyclable sacks

Brown bin, up to 2 a household, free 😀 for garden waste

Black bin for things that don't go into others.

Complicated? A bit but you get used to it. It works very well. I delighted that our full service continues. Don't know about travel arrangements, I didn't take any notice but will do this week! There certainly appeared to be the usual amount of operatives. I made a point of thanking them personally. I do if I see them anyway  but will make an extra effort during these times.

Another bright and beautiful start to the day here 😀

    Stay safe folks

Our "dry" recycling was collected yesterday and general waste and garden waste collections are, we're told, going to continue as normal although the recycling centres were all closed last week. What does concern me is that the collectors still seem to be working in teams of 4 and how they adhere to social distancing while collecting and, particularly when travelling in the trucks must be questionable.

It's a gorgeous start to the day here. Mrs M is walking the dogs this morning and I'll do the afternoon shift. We don't live in a tourist area ourselves but I'm betting nearby villages like Lacock and Castle Combe will be seeing some of the idiots today!

We have something similar B2, maybe not quite as complicated though!

Week 1 is black bin....general refuse, and green bin...garden waste (but only March to November)

Week 2 is blue bin....paper and card, and beige bin.....plastic, glass and tins.

    Then repeat.

The black and green bins are big....240litres?  You can have as many green ones as you need , but only one black one, though as PD said, I think if the household is over 6 people, you can ask for a second bin. There are also half size ones available if you cannot manage the large one.

The other 2 recycling bins are smaller, 120litres maybe, we can request a second of those if necessary.

The food waste bin  is very small and silver, compostable bags supplied, and is collected on a Sunday every week.

We are encouraged only to put out the bins when they are quite full, to speed up the collection process, so we would usually have the recycling ones out every 4 weeks,  the general refuse one every 6 weeks, and garden ones only when we have had a blitz on the garden, maybe 4 times per year, or less.

Lovely bright sunny weather again.  Today's task is rubbing down my owl and start to apply varnish, I think 3 coats should suffice.

Will go for a walk later when all the other folk and their dogs have gone home, so beach here we come

It’s a lovely sunny day here. Washing out on the line. I’m cooking roast pork for dinner and then it will be a lazy afternoon.

Notwithstanding the weather presenters assurances of a warm wind from the south, it was decidedly nippy on my constitutional along the foreshore this morning. As time marches on, it's all getting a bit repetitive though.

Endless carrots saves you having to top and tail them ... undecided

We'll be spending another day exercising effort discretion. Highlight of the day likely to be nipping outside to read the gas meter, if that's allowed, followed by reading the electric meter and then signing on to send the readings to the Utility Company.

Beats looking for supermarket delivery slots, but, even with such variety, I can barely contain my indifference.

Just heard that our nephew, who was supposed to be  "celebrating" his 40th birthday yesterday was rushed into RUH Bath with appendicitis instead. Having an op today and then staying in for a further 48 hours. Worrying time for his wife and 2 little girls.  frown

Ran out of bread and milk,so for the first time had to visit the village shop. Bought three items, in and out as quick as possible. Had to walk into the road to avoid two people on the way home. At home, bag on the floor, washed hands. Wiped down milk container and bread wrapper with anti bac. Had 'discussion' with OH cos he said I shouldn't have anti bac'ed the bananas? Bag put back in car, won't be using it again for a week, so didn't wipe. Front door handle and glasses anti bac'ed then hands washed again. !!! Now for a coffee.

Had a walk into a. thankfully, deserted town today as we had to drop off a form at MiLs doctors surgery. We have been taking her BP for the last week and the doctor wanted to see the results first thing tomorrow so killed 2 birds etc. by getting a bit of exercise and dropping form off. A bit nippier than we expected but luckily the early start meant that there wasn't a lot of people out. Safely home for coffee. Mrs WN a bit worried that the washing on the line might end up in Cheshire.

Had to pay a visit to our bathroom for "needs must" at 1.30 this morning. Nothing greatly unusual about that except I tried to do a "Bakers2" and book a slot with Tesco online delivery. Fat chance. I don't believe they have more than 2. Harrumphed back to bed and to a "What on earth have you been doing. On second thoughts I don't want to know!" Won't be trying that again.embarassed

As MIL stayed with us for 12 years, we have a "granny flat" with a second kitchen, which has become a bit of a dumping ground over the years.  OH has decided to take it in hand and have a clear out, and ask the children if they would like to have any of their grandmother's kitchen equipment, otherwise it will go to the charity shops, when they reopen.

So, meantime, she needs somewhere to stash all the dishes and things while she gets to grips with the cupboards.  We had a spare cupboard downstairs, a really heavy thing with 2 shelves, so we have wrestled it upstairs and put it in said kitchen, only to find that most of the shelf support studs are missing.   frown

Cannot complain as it was a freebie off freecycle, but now I will have to see if I can find something to make shelf studs out of!   cry

Now warming up steadily ( not the 19* promised but still .......... )

Sky lightening as the clouds thin out and go higher, but its still coolish indoors due to having the windows wide open to let the breeze clear Covid -- 19 from the house smile. Still it is dry tho breezy but t'will need an application of Adam's Ale on the few shrubs I have this week methinks

Dull but warm here today. We had a lazy morning and then I went up to my lock up round the corner and brought my classic Mercedes round to the house to give it a clean its been off the road for the winter normally it would be going back on the road at the beginning of May however most of the classic car shows I had booked in to this year have been cancelled so may hang off recommissioning it for now until things are a bit clearer. After I put the Merc back in its garage so got the Volvo washed and the. Cleaned out the inside it is now sitting spotless inside and out. One good thing about this lock down is that the car is not getting used as much as usual so the mileage is being kept down and saving a lot of money on diesel. Hopefully we will be able to pile a few miles on once the campsites open again (I’m ever the optimist)  reading Practical Caravan earlier and on the front cover it was saying how “the touring season starts here” if only we had know.

Got roped in to help OH empty the first 3 kitchen units, mainly cups, plates, glasses and assorted jugs and serving dishes.

Arranged them in sets and took a short video of each and gave details of quantity and maker, then stashed them in the temporary cupboard.

Only 15 more units to empty!   surprised

Fortunately they do not all have dishes etc in them as we have been using quite a few of them as additional storage for plastic items and various bits and pieces.

Time to sort out what we really want to keep, and get rid of quite a bit of stuff, some to be binned, some for the charity shops, some to the children.

Found quite a few items we know belong to DD, no idea why they are still here as she has not lived here since 2003!

Some of the china is elderly, probably 1940s and 1950s, I doubt our children will want it.  Maybe we should send it to an auction?

you might be surpirsed Kj, they seem, or mine did, to have a different slant on things like that as they get older. My eldest daughter set up home and she buys 'antique' things like old lamps, dinner plates sets, silver teapots from second hand shops.

Lovely warm afternoon here, even sat out in the sun.

Sorry if this upsets some of you dear readers

Our weather has been glorious today exactly as the forecasters predicted. We had lunch outside and had a couple of hours sitting in the sun reading and pretending we were on holiday. Bliss and just what the doctor ordered.

Cut the grass, the treatment applied by the professionals 2 weeks ago on Tuesday is working a treat. Growth is good and weeds are dying. I've actually had to put the hosepipe on the entire garden as plants  i transplanted are wilting badly and I put some grass seed down in the bare patches.

I started off some ds on pots about a week ago sunflowers they're all coming up nicely, I hope the cosmos seed my mum had saved from 2017 germinates. I have also got some M&S little Gardner basil showing,  normally I pass them to my great niece but at the moment I can't.

Started rather late so our roast will be nearer 8pm than the usual 6pm. 😆.

    Stay safe folks
