Service stopover

Ray, nail on head...
this concept of campers who aren't staying on a site being allowed (for a fee) to use the MHSP facilities really is a 'foreign' one to most on CT...
However, to those who tour a little further afield the Aires category
ACS = Aire de services sur camping acceptant le passage pour les services
is a common one, where those who do stay and those who don't, happily coexist and use the site MHSP without any of the imagined issues being put forward in this thread.
however, as this certainly is a 'foreign' concept, it couldn't possibly work at a uk site....

But BB the aires are often a lot smaller and you probably won't be holding others up as you might on a larger formal site. By the way many of us are used to the concept due to the other club offering the facility but I would dislike being delayed as we were recently due to extra pressure on the MHSP.

no, it definitely DOESNT work for all on site, as I explained in my response to JVB which you either dismissed or didn't understand.
anyone on the 'wrong' side of the MHSP (re the one way system) have to drive off in the 'wrong' direction and head all round the site to the exit and then back in and approach from the 'correct' way....and then after filling/emptying you have to drive again over the same ground (and it's a fair distance) back to the exit....needlessly adding to congestion on site.

Since I've been named as taking part in this discussion (even though, at that point my only contribution had been a 6 word 1 liner on page 1) I will just raise a further question.
When are these facilities to be made available? I mean, clearly it couldn't be earlier than the earliest arrival time for anyone actually arriving to stay on the site. Preferably, it should be clear of peak arrival times (say the first 3 hours after earliest arrival) and certainly shouldn't be later than the latest arrival time of 8pm.
So, given that there is apparently sufficient demand for this, are we to expect an influx of MHs wanting to use the service points between, say 4 and 6 pm before finding a convenient lay by to park up in for the night?

Er....i think I was referring to your post in the first page...so I included you in the list....certainly not 'thinking of you' (perish the thought) but my 'facts' are certainly correct...

A number of questions BB.
1. How many are using this dump facility other than main site users and are main site users using the facility?
2. Is the dump facility well within the main site and does it require supervised access and exit from the main site.
3. If those who are not using CC sites choose to use sites which apparently include CLs and CSs according to PD (?) why should they come running to a CC site to make good the shortcomings of other options for a pittance? As far as CLs and CSs not being suitable for dumping MH waste water when did that happen? In years gone by MHs used a small waste container or a bucket if necessary - much like caravanners do.
There are incidentally no 'imagined issues' on this thread. Just issues.

Sorry to correct you Moulesy but any off site traffic needs to be on and off before wardens generally step down from manning the office (I know Fridays drag on) at 6pm. Maybe if such a provision was made it would entail arriving between 2pm and 4pm.

"As far as CLs and CSs not being suitable for dumping MH waste water when did that happen? In years gone by MHs used a small waste container or a bucket if necessary - much like caravanners do. "
An excellent point. I've stayed on many CLs over the past few years and I'd guess almost invariably have shared the pleasure with MHers who use whatever facilities are available quite happily. Obviously there are MHers and then there are MHERS!

The post is question looks a bit lean on facts to me, BB.😄😄

"I didn't see a single caravanner wild camping in 11 weeks away...
how many do you normally see?
i can just see the regular Caravanning posters in this discussion ( Moulesy. EasyT, Cornersready) giving sites a wide berth for a week or two's wild camping, can't you?
Of course 'wild damping' to some might mean being a few inches from the peg "

. Obviously there are MHers and then there are MHERS!
Perhaps it is that there are (since 1969 ish) motor caravanners, and "others".

Brue, while listed as 'aires' this specific category are, in fact, just 'service usage points' at proper 'large formal' campsites.
the campsite has a MHSP (usually conveniently placed next to the exit) and it has agreed to provide a water/dump service to passing MHs, hence the specific descriptive expression I quoted.
they make a small charge (around €2+) and in return get a mention in the Aires directories...
ot may well be they pick up more than passing trade with a small percentage either staying or returning to stay at some time in the future.
it obviously pays and doesn't cause issue otherwise they wouldn't do it.

the 'fact' being referred to was that the three posters I mentions had all posted in this thread....they had....QED.

BB. Well that is good as far as it goes but most of us know that at present both clubs have MHSP points in less than convenient places. Possibly due to the siting of utilities. So that's the reality when considering changes to club site offerings. Imagine somewhere like Baltic Wharf on a busy day, chaos!

the usual constructive input...well done, Alan....that must have been a big effort for you....

Not at all BB. But was it too much effort to answer my previous questions?

QED? More like ODD. 😟

agreed, BW is in totally the wrong place, just inside the entrance as part of a. one way street that means two laps of the site for some leavers..
but, hang on, isn't the club in the throes of 'redeveloping' the MHSP on its sites?
i suspect this is little more than putting a grid in the same place as the old manhole cover used to be....hardly a full evaluation of traffic, location etc....
however, about what's expected for a caravan club (Ltd)

well, you'd know....

Yep, no trouble at all, M.
