What are you all up to

Sounds like ours - but this year I decided to pop into our chemists and it took 20 minutes! Filled out a form giving my consent - taken into a consulting room - asked if I wanted a chaperone. Then questioned about my health - then a lecture about the type of virus and that it was particular to the over 65s. Did I have a phobia about needles. Had I had a reaction to the flu jab before and so it went on...and on...and on. Was I sure I was OK about having an injection and there am I saying "just get on with it!"
"Relax your arm, otherwise it will hurt" - "No, that's not relaxed enough - relax a bit more" (How do you 'relax' your arm?)
Anyway, finally got the jab - never felt a thing and was about to get up and go when I was told to sit still for two minutes in case I had an anaphylactic reaction.
Going back to the quacks, next year!

Weβre at Englethwaite Hall. We arrived in the dark and rain about 7 last night. The wardens rang us while we were on our way, to say pitch up and pay in the morning. We had already decided which pitch we wanted (having been a lot) and it was free, so it was a reasonably quick job to get set up.
Then a celebratory supper (English Fizz, smoked salmon terrine and a gooey chocolate pud).
No 5 oβclock alarm this morning. Just a late breakfast of bacon sandwiches. One small disaster - no ground coffee! Only instant. Remedied now by shopping at M&S just a couple of junctions up the M6. How do people cope in there? Too much stuff, and not in proper sections like a supermarket (or is that just me?).
OH now asleep and I have a new Ann Cleeves book to read.

Yes, JV - agree - and only said in jest. Our new pharmacist (a lovely Chinese lady) is very thorough and conscientious and she said that what she had delivered was what the GPs should be doing. Just took me by surprise as compared with my previous experiences!

Super news, HD, that will be a great weight off your mind. Time now to enjoy your retirement, and to care for your mum. All the best.

Sounds a bit like Boots, with all those questions!!!!

Not been to Englethwaite for about 10 years and it is a nice site. WE were due to spend some nights there at the start of a 7 week scottish trip in April 2016 but a friend near Thornhill, Dumfries was having another friend to stay for a few nights and so we pitched up at a site nearby instead.

Doesn't sound like HD will be letting the grass grow under his feet.
Persistent rain today so we made use of our waterproofs and had a wander around Minsmere, getting some use from my new toy. 4 hours was enough so home for a coffee and a hot shower.
Instant coffee, Goldie? Yuk!!! No wonder a trip up the M6 was called for.

Bit of a showery day here. Mrs One at an activity day with her cubs. Brother and myself had a wander by the river before doing some food shopping. This afternoon sat in front of telly and had a snooze, just perfect. Tonight of out to a tiny Indian Restaurant, only 3 tables so very cosy but fantastic food

Can't get our flu jabs done until the 31st October as that's the first of 3 dates they are doing them at our surgery.
We can't get them done at the pharmacy up here unless we pay for them.
Will give the Surgery a call on Monday to see if we can get them done early as we are thinking of going back to Spain on the 30th October.
If not then I guess we will have to pay for them or go without.
Nice day today, managed to get out in the garden and do a tidy up, OH took the mower over the grass at a higher than normal setting, just give it a light cut but mainly to hoover up the leaves off the Silver birches we have, still lots more to fall.
Food shopping this afternoon, rain showers on and off so glad that we did the garden first and the shopping later.
Great news HD, best job in the world retirement

No Not me, Two nephews attend there but I'm a real Old Townie -- Grosvenor is MY surgery -- assuming the old days were similar to the more modern systems I've been with the Practice for approx 78.5 years and never had a relapse

Another fine sunny but blowy day. Drove up to Kirknewton with the intention of walking up to Yeavering Bell & view the hill fort, but we had to divert because of cows & calves in the fields, and we had Flyte with us of course so just went to see the ones on St Gregory's Hill and West Hill. Stopped off to have a wander round Ad Gefrin, the site of the 7th C Palace of King Edwin of Northumbria, although nothing much to see. Then we went up to Wooler Common for a couple of short walks where we had a disturbing incident. (See my posting in the Wildlife section).
Lovely red sky tonight so we may have another good day weatherwise tomorrow.

Tammygirl. Thursday must have been such an emotional day for you but lovey to get all the family together. It reminded me of my last remaining aunt's funeral 3 years ago which was the last time all of my extended family got together. It was so lovely to see everyone. There is nothing like family is there.
I hope you manage to Spain at the end of the month.
Great news Husky! I am sure you will enjoy retirement.
Not a bad day weather-wise here. While OH was off watching grandson playing football I cleaned all our outside woodwork and cleaned the windows. They were all filthy after the recent roadworks in our road. I also replanted our hanging basket with some cyclamens and winter pansies. Our opposite neighbour came across to tell us that he is selling up and moving to a flat which we can quite understand as his wife died a few years ago and he is not a well man but we feel very low as he has been such a good neighbour for the 30years that we have lived here and we will miss him greatly.

Are you near that Centre Of Chaos called the A14 then MillieH ??
Down there a week or so back when the A14 problems were compounded by a major water main surrendering to its years close to a round a bout near Addenbrooks
.
At least they claim the A14 Huntingdon by-pass should be finished a year early

Brian it was open today to cyclists and runners but it is only the Huntington Bypass bit but a step in the right direction.

Although we have family here this weekend we had to go to a pre-booked big band night in Weymouth. My daughter informed us that her students now refer to it as Weybitha (Webiza?)... After getting there too early we had to do several circuits of the one way system on the desolate dark sea front in the pouring rain and I couldn't help seeing the irony of the students thinking.

Do you know I never knew the works were in progress
as for several years I haven't used the A14 from Cambridge to Huntingdon stretch. If going West I go cross country through Peterborough and join the A14 at Kettering. Guessing thats all about to change

ABM. No it wasnt the A14 roadworks affecting us, it was gas pipe replacement for the whole road which caused chaos! We have tried not to use the A14 for a number of years and find alternative routes. The A1 has been affected as well. It must be costing billions. Our road is closed again today as we are on the route of The Great Eastern run. As SIL is taking part we shall have a family group out there cheering him on. It is pouring with rain βΉ π§β

Coming from the West we don't appear to have a lot of choice but to use the A14, at least the bit around Cambridge where the work is still ongoing. It sort of reminds me of our journeys to Southampton where we used to live before coming to MK. When we first moved there were still sections on two way road on the A34, the most famous bit around Newbury. Now it is all dual carriageway as far as Bicester so a very good, if very busy, road. It is similar when you travel East. It is dual carriageway from the M1 to the A1. A bit of two way road in between (hopefully soon to be upgraded) and then dualed all the way to Norwich or Harwich. The A14 around Cambridge is similar to lots of other roads around the country in that it was built to take traffic away from the town/city but gets clogged up with commuter traffic!

Despite a dire forecast we ventured out to Southwold and walked to Walberswick marshes and reed beds and back on a circular route. Hardly worth putting the waterproof on for. Not many people out and about on the walk but quite a lot lingering in Southwold.

Hi all, sorry not been able to keep up with everyone and all the goings onπ’ still without computer.
Just having a quick peak. We are away in North Yorkshire and it's raining, so had to stop off for Sunday lunch and a pint of Timothy Taylor's .

Great to hear from you HelenandTrevor I was going to ask today if anyone knew anything. Delighted you still only lack a computer and nothing more serious. Nice to know you're away, sad π the weather has forced lynch out and beer ππ.
Wherenext delighted you had a nice walk, not been as bad as forecast here either.
Brighter now but we have had rain. Hoping it will clear, as forecast, for tomorrow as we have a new conservatory roof being fitted. All furniture and plants emptied except the 3 seater settee, cushions upstairs, we'll move it into the dining room with all the other stuff, once we've had dinner. OH has managed to help me π. It even stayed dry whilst I shifted the perennials I have by the side of the conservatory awaiting planting.
Fridge had frozen my new bag of carrots, salad, couple of apples and a leek π€. Just made carrot soup tastes good π. Also froze a bottle of ginger beer, pushing the lid off π€ Given said fridge a good sort out, no idea why it did that...........
