Hope that all goes well for you and family tomorrow, TG. My thoughts will be with you.

Fingers crossed that all works out for you HD. It's taken a while but hopefully the conclusion is now within sight.

Glad that you've had a good run down to your next CL, WN.

We had to go into Carlisle today to stock up before moving on tomorrow, Then had a pleasant walk around Wetheral, taking in St Cuthberts Well, then walking along the Eden Valley footpath to view, from the opposite bank, St Constantine's Cells beneath Corby Castle, and then onto the N/T's Wetheral Woods before returning to the village past the Priory Gatehouse. I do wonder how many visitors to the Englethwaite Hall Site bother to explore the local area?

Busy day today. Flu jabs this morning, ex work pensioners group meeting this afternoon. The talk was about a Roman Villa discovered here in Milton Keynes by one of the original archaeologists who worked on the dig in the 80's. Interesting subject matter but not quite so inspired speaker! Then to the other end of MK to visit IKEA for some bits and pieces. Came back home in the rush hour, didn't realise the was so much traffic in MK. 40 years years ago when we first got here you could almost count the cars on one hand!!!

    Best wishes for tomorrow TG.

The road you mention is that the Norwich Northern Bypass by any chance? We are going to Cromer soon and I usually cut across country to avoid the Norwich inner bypass but looking at my new road atlas it might be better to go via this new road.

Absolutely David.  For Cromer you come off the NDR by the airport and it’s an easy run to Cromer from there.  There are plans for the road to continue and join the A47 which will make it even better

Used that road last month. It’s now simpler to get to the Broads site from the west and to visit the north coast from the site.

Our last full day here, been a lovely fun filled week. Weather looks kind, so we are going to do some selective retail therapy......EH shops at Rievaulx and Helmsley, then onto a great little farm shop a couple of miles from Helmsley, then into Thornton Le Dale. Chaps will do Classic Cars (Matthewsons, Bangers and Cash) while the ladies peruse the other retail outlets searching for......bargains!

We were reflecting on our touring/ holidays this year so far last night. Two things stand out, rain and sheep. Way to much of both, in contrast to last year where it was Wall to Wall sunshine all year.  Bikes are another lasting memory, hard to ignore them up here though in Yorkshire, and we even got in two stages of TOf Britain up in Scotland.  We’ve done the three mainland countries this year as well, and five National Parks. Even done a rare visit to London, albeit a rather sad one to say goodbye to a much loved relative of Mum’s.

More to come planned. End of this month it’s Warwick. We have York provisionally booked for just after Xmas, and in between I think we have found an unusual and interesting place to go for OHs birthday.....Jeep required!

Where might next year bring? Well, Cornwall calls constantly, we need to sort out caravan and get it down to Marazion area. Norfolk and Suffolk need more exploration, Essex as well if we have time. We need to get over Pennines as well, a lot of uncharted territory over there. Dorset? Tempting, haven’t been for a while. 😁

We love going to Mathewsons at Thornton Le Dale we have been going for years always a great selection of old cars and the staff are friendly. Normally after we have been there we take a drive up to The Goathland Hotel (Aidensfield Arms) for lunch another favourite place of ours. We were there for a week in October last year and as usual it was excellent. Haven't made it to Yorkshire this year but hopefully next. The Lake District is our planned destination for our winter break in November as it is closer to home for us and we haven't been to the Lakes this year.

Sounds wonderful Goldie hope nothing gets in the way 😉. Rarely get to see a great deal of our DIL as weather dictates activities, and she is only arable! Enjoy.

Takethedogalong sounds like a great year touring. Enjoy this last day, once chores are sorted you can go off again 😂😂😂

Just shot in for a spot of lunch OH prepared it 😀 and catch up on here. Borrowing brown bins again trimming up the conifers, some large branches for the log pile too. Bit breezy and defo greyier now so must beat the rain.

    Hope all went well Oneputt

Weird, my post on here went off into the ether!

Enjoy your break Goldie, hope you can get away. We were similar when we worked together.

Had a phone call to ask if we'd like a visiting dog from "up north" so will be whippet sitting all of next week. Had booked to hear David Suchet talk at local literary festival so will have to get an extra whippet sitter for that night. I had just been thinking about son and family as we wouldn't be seeing them till next year. So looks like we will at least see son and grandson again. It will be nice to do some dog walking, I find it hard to wander around on my own!

Brue how lovely to see son and grandson and gain a four legged companion. I know exactly what you mean about wandering about alone! Will you get another glimpse of the boys when they collect the dog?

Gardening finished,  tired and uncomfortable, wearing a log of conifer trimmings inside my clothing 😲, not to mention filled all neighbours spare capacity in brown bins 😂😂.  Off for a shower before starting on dinner - something quick tonight me thinks 😉

I am now pondering about the return of the dog B2, this wasn't mentioned! wink

Good that you've got some gardening done. OH is pressing cider (with help) today, everything is awash outside. There will still be more fruit to pass on to the local commune. I have been thinking we have one tree too many. wink

David, I think on other posts it was mentioned about the nice walk through the park into Cirencester. Currently the section of the main drive into town is closed for tree felling operations. Started the middle of Sept and due to last 4 / 6 weeks. The rest of the park is open, it's just that section that is closed. There is a diversion, but after all the rain it is very muddy, so the only clean option is the road route, which is nowhere near as pleasant.

Apparently the horse chestnuts have reached the end of there natural life span and are becoming a safety risk, so the majority are being replaced with a special variety of Limes, that should be desease and climate change resistant, as well as provide varied habitats as they develop.

I love the smell of lime, linden, blossom. Although it makes me sad these days as it coincides with the last days of my beloved aunt and godmother, it's a brilliant reminder of our wonderful times!

Moulsey glad to know your home safe and sound, now you've seen and caught up with your dad theres no excuse for neglecting jobs any longer 😂

Spent a lovely day testing my new binoculars out at Minsmere. Very pleased. We had a good mooch around the reserve and a walk to the Eels Foot for a pint of Adnams best. Oneputt, was it Blackshore Stout you were trying to remember?

Hope the hospital visit went well for you, Op.

Nellie, fingers crossed that the move went well and the caravan holding up.

Ttda, good job you don't want to go abroad seeing as you look like being busy on these shores.

Hope that all went well with your check up, OP. Bet you had a good afternoon with the grandtwins.

Did you manage to keep a hold on your purse strings, tda, apart for releasing them to pay for your food goodies?

Glad they the new bins have proved their worth already, WN.

Good to hear that you get home safe and sound, Moulesy. Enjoyed seeing the photos you posted, it looked a lovely trip.

Moved up to Powburn today without any problems. Grand site with good dog walk, although a bit of road noise during the day. The day's been mainly dry with just the odd short shower and a cool breeze, although not cold enough to cast my shorts yet.laughing

Good to read we're not alone in shorts nelliethehooker. Must admit to 3/4 sleeves (and a gillet first thing)

Great news Oneputt, so long as they are keeping an eye on things!

We had two vans at one bit AD, both very old but sound. We used to keep one in Cornwall, the larger of the two, and used our smaller van to tour with other places. Storage fees were a £1 a day, so actually a bit more than yours, but it worked well for us for a number of years. Not as far away of course, and much easier for us to haul it home occasionally to carry out any remedial work required, which in truth was minimal. We found it a lot easier to zip down every few weeks when we could than doing the long tow. Sold the larger van when we got our MH, but we still have the smaller one, which was in better condition. We travelled light, dispensed with an awning, but as you say you do duplicate some kit.

It is always a big job emptying the van.  We too are fair weather caravanners so this will be our last trip this year, and our dealer prefers an empty van for the service in February.

Most of our caravan stuff overwinters in a spare bedroom, we try to have it all in one place, but there are a few "outdoor bits" that have to stay in the garage. We have some Ikea storage boxes that hold various spares and odds and ends that go with us, so those are easily removed, and for emptying lockers we use larger Ikea boxes, and go through them later before replacing stuff in the van.

A tidy stack of boxes is easy to move around if necessary, and means we rarely forget any caravan items. For the stuff I put in the garage, and personal items such as towels and toiletries,  OH has a checklist.

We do leave dishes in the racks, pots in the cooker cupboard, and cutlery etc in the drawers as they are not in the way of the damp testing, which is the main reason our dealer prefers empty cupboards.  All at our own risk of course, but nothing has ever gone missing.

The biggest job is assembling the tools I take with me as they get used when we are at home.  Again I have a couple of boxes and a tool bag that travel in the car, and I have to check and refill them before each trip.  No checklist, so more easy to leave something behind.  I am not as organised as my OH!

We use the van all year round so leave most things in it although we do take some items out such as the Cadac, wind break, awning, sun canopy, chairs and keep these in the garage until the better weather comes in.

It's a good job OH checked inside - there was only half a bottle of Gin!. Now rectified.
