Hartlepool Quay is another good one as NTH suggested, I remember doing it one year on CS suggestion when we were at White Water.

Is that the same as the Navy Museum where they have the restored sailing ship, and various old buildings?

If so, we were there on Saturday.  Nearly deafened when they fired the little canon!

    Sailing ship was very interesting.

    Yes that's the one laughing

Glad to hear that you are home safely Tammygirl. Very best wishes to your BIL and also your sister. It must be such a difficult time for them. Best wishes also to you all with the arrangements for your Mum's funeral.

Thank you Millie, it is a difficult time for all, I'm trying my best to be 'normal' (whatever that is) as I know that when Thursday comes its going to be a trying day. OH is the executor to Mum's estate so he is taking all the strain at the moment and letting my sister (next of kin) have a brake now we are back. cry

TTDA........how do you find out about these places that give a discount to Club members?

We have the Great Savings Guide, but neither the James Herriot Museum, or Beamish, which we have been told gives Club members a 25% discount, are mentioned in the booklet.

SteveL we are twinned with Bourges and have visited many times.Such a lovely town and the cathedral is beautiful. Your photo brought back some happy memories. Did you stay on the excellent municipal site there?

We did Millie, a nice little site. We will have to return in the future, as there was a lot we didn't see in our brief stop over.

TammyG, I hope things go well for you over the next few weeks, we found we had a lot of paper work for quite a time, all mixed up with our sadness over losing our Mum last year and organising a funeral, writing letters etc. My best wishes to you all.

Not the best of days here. We overslept and found our hedge cutting man on the doorstep at 9am, more work to do! It's rainy and damp. Booked to see the "Lady Vanishes" (that's an old one!) which is on tour and coming to our local theatre next month.

We started the day with a visit to our grand-daughters' school harvest festival service at their village church. Youngest, aged 9, read a poem and eldest is a teacher there and was with her reception class. It was such a lovely service.

Enjoy The Lady Vanishes brue. We have booked to see Downton at our local theatre in a couple of weeks. They do 'Silver Screenings' on a Wednesday afternoon for Β£3 each - bargain!!

I think it would be cheaper for me to drive to Peterborough the next time I want to go to the cinema!!! It cost us Β£12.90 each to see Downton here in MK. It was apparently a larger screen and we would have had to have waited another hour to see it on a standard screen but I think it was only about a pound cheaper!!!

On a brighter note we were in John Lewis today and I noticed they had a "Quality Street" self selection where you buy just the chocolates that you like, which is most of them in my case although I would be happy not to have the toffees and the dentist bills that go with them!!!

Another busy day. Had a morning visiting Cley bird reserve, Kingfisher and Bearded Reedling being highlights, before nipping off to buy a new pair of binoculars. Considerably poorer now.

Then we met up with some friends for a lunch at Byfords in Holt and took a leisurely 3 hours to catch up with all of our respective news.

It's been dry up until about 15 minutes ago. Mainly drizzle now but some roads still a bit flooded.

Yesterday we started sailing back towards Porto and stopped at the village of Pinhoa, reckoned to be the most attractive spot in the Douro region. And you can certainly see why - miles of vineyards climbing up the slopes at seemingly impossible angles. The grapes have all been harvested now and within a month or so,  the vines will start dropping their leaves, so it will look very different from all this greenery.

(My earlier posts have now appeared so for anyone thinking of touring this region or river cruising on the Douro, you'll have to look back a few pages.smile)

Busy day here as well.  Had to fill up our gas bottle this morning, no problem at all.  Then to Titchwell for 4hrs, highlights flock of 16 Bramblings and 6 Siskin's.  Back to Holt where I splashed out on a new pair of crocs.  Leaving here in the morning and dropping van off at dealers to do the brakes

    great photos M

Our Odeon is loud 😲. I improvised earplugs with tissue in each ear and still found it loud. That's quite a bargain price too, like David Klyne our seats were expensive, granted we had the premium, very upright! And a packet of mints to use all Β£25 voucher. Otherwise there would have been a silly amount the Odeon would gain and we'd loose. No larger screen as far as I am aware.

Brue enjoy the lady vanishes. I've booked 42nd Street for November, local young amdam group.

Very grey here all day. Visit into town this morning,  not overly successful for myself but got mum's bits. Then over to her for cuppa and birthday cake 89 today.

Tammygirl I too hope things go as  smoothly as possible for you and your family over the next few days and weeks. There'll be plenty of paperwork no doubt, just take it one step at a time. Do you have a date for the funeral yet?

Lovely photos moulesy hope you're having a good time.

Sounds like those on holiday in Norfolk are boosting the local economy some considerably more than others πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Today was a visit to the Mateus Palace gardens. The palace is the building you see on the wine bottle labels, although it is actually produced some 80 miles away! The gardens are quite spectacular - and manicured to within an inch (centimetre!) of their lives!

We are now at Entre-os-Ross,  our last stop before returning to Porto tomorrow.

Many thanks, funeral (cremation) is 11.30 on Thursday morning frown OH is dealing with all the paperwork as he is the executor of Mum's estate. Today was Register the death, final instructions to funeral home, visit the bank, tomorrow is solicitors. Eulogy done, order of service done. Works and Pensions done, Social services done. There are times his military orderly mind comes into its own, I don't know how we would have managed it all without him.

Despite the awful looking weather forecast last night, today has not been too bad here.  Rain from about 07.30 till 11.00 then dry till around 16.00.

Went to the railway museum at Shildon, lots of interesting things to see and a lot of historical details.  On the way back we had some showers, but it soon dried up again and we even had a blink of sun.

Tomorrow we will head towards the coast and, depending on the weather, visit Seaham and/or the Glass place in Sunderland. Better make a slightly earlier start than we have been doing of late.

After a fairly quiet weekend, OH was wakened at around 7am today by the traffic noise from the nearby road.....rush hour no doubt.  Not nearly as noisy tonight, I of course can sleep through anything!

We woke to find that the weather wasn't as bad as expected so at 9:00 decided to head off in the van. Phoned Englethwaite just to check that there was room...there was, so we were on the road by before 10:30, only half an hour later than we would have been had we decided yesterday to come today. Some rain en route but dry by the time we got to Penrith and all the way to Carlisle, and not as windy as expected either. Did our usual 2 ml walk after lunch and even had some sunshine this evening. We were surprised by the number of LVs on the road today and quite a few M/Hs came in here in the late afternoon.

Glad you out and back touring again Nellie. There does seem a lot of MHs out at the moment, we noticed it last week. A lot of really big ones on sites as well.

Good to get things sorted smoothly TG, thoughts are with you and your family.

We had a nice day in Pickering today, it’s gearing up for the big 1940s War weekend, always popular. Forecast is good here for tomorrow so we might head up to Saltburn, see what’s new up there, as it’s a while since we have been.

Just taken the car for a wash and brush up inside too. Interesting 😱.

Drive through been there years. Only one chap spoke and understood English but not enough for a conversation! One enough to ask for the money. The other 2 smiled much and worked hard. No heavy footwear, waterproof?, no waterproof trousers. I do hope they weren't working for less than minimum wage etc.

Found the seat pushed back when I got in, easy to adjust but couldn't work out why my knee was hitting steering column, it turned out to be lever for adjustable steering wheel. I had to park up and read the manual 😱😱. Got to try again in a mo, got steering wheel to height I had before and push lever into a locked position, but now wheels are straight and steering wheel slightly askew.......

Been a decent day here, 3 lots of washing done and dried outside. All items from the motorhome cleaned and stored.

Tammygirl I'm so glad your OH is sorting things for you a huge relief for you and your sister. My dad's army training ensured we learned the sense of methodical ways πŸ˜‰. I am interested that registrar visit is after funeral arranged, I know Scotland is different in many ways, here you can't arrange funeral until death is registered and you need an appointment! Gone are the days of calling in, no registry office either here....... same for births. Thinking of you all in the coming days and especially 1130 Thursday.

Not been to either so cant assist there. But wherever you decide enjoy and rest - you'll be flat out for πŸŽ„(I refuse to type the word yet) before too long.

Rain drops just hitting the conservatory roof now. Almost as nice as when you're cosy in your van πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰

Wow its dancing dollies and I got soaked running from drivers door to front door, literally twice the length of the qashqai 😱. Had to put gillet to drip over the bath and rub hair with a towel....... and that after I reckoned it had eased a bit!

Glad you had a good time Oneputt, hope the dealers got the job done swiftly. Is it warranty work?

Absolutely correct Bakers2.... or as some would say:.... "You're not wrong..."  πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

Weather is OK here today - no rain, but we have had a roof leak and had to give Billy a ring to come and sort it out.  It was right at the end of our dining room before you get to the conservatory.  We have a little bit of pitched roof between the dining room and the conservatory.  He replaced all the leading with the new fangled alternative and cleaned out the gullies.  Hope that's solved it.

I'm sitting in the car with the dog.  Carol has gone into B & Q to get some sandpaper and wood stain so we can do where the water dripped on to the dresser.  undecidedundecided

As it happens, we visited both early part of September. To me, there’s not much to choose between them. That said, the walk through the park to Cirencester is very agreeable. Just be aware that the gate (to the park) closes at 5pm. At Burford, there is the wildlife park right opposite, but the gardens won’t be looking their best this time of year, but still worth a visit, I would say.

Welcome!
