Tomorrow doesn't look too good Bakersfrown but good luck. Methinks a big tarpaulin needed for the sofa.

Best of luck with your conservatory roof Bakers2.  We had ours done last month and it wasn't as bad as feared because the builders put a tarpaulin over the roof each night.  Mind you we were lucky with the weather.  I am so pleased we had it done as the old one would have leaked badly in all this rain.

The Great Eastern Run was cancelled frown.  A merry band of us supporters and neighbours all stood out there in the teeming rain under our umbrellas and we waited and waited and then the marshals told us that there had been a delay because of an 'incident'.  After about an hour they told us that it had been cancelled because someone had been 'acting suspiciously' on the route and the organisers felt that they couldn't keep the runners standing around in the downpour any longer while it was investigated. There are a lot of very upset and disappointed runners (including our SIL).  Some of them decided to do the run anyway as I saw them going past our house.

It has gone in the dining room. Interesting!! And I escaped πŸ˜‚ OH was able to use the door it came in through back into the conservatory.

Milliehull did you have conservatory roof or one of these solid ones? We're having another polycarbonate one, but a different system. Company who built it have got it sorted - I hope 😯 as they've not been out just done from original drawings....... oh well tomorrow we find out 😱

Milliehull saw the run had been cancelled, what a disappointment. Everyone wet for nothing! Glad some ran did your SIL?

Lots of rain here near York, though it has stopped, meantime. Huge puddle on our pitch.

Friday started dull, we went to the York Designer Outlet for some retail therapy and lunch, so of course the sun came out.

Yesterday was very sunny so we went out to the coast, Flamborough Head and Bridlington, and did some food shopping and refuelling on our way back.

Today we have been up to the James Herriot Museum in Thirsk, rather than just sit about in the van, very interesting, and we got a discount with our CAMC cards as TTDA said. Lots of water on the roads.

Moving on tomorrow to a CL a bit beyond Settle for 4 nights, so hoping the weather will improve.

Yes we had a polycarbonate roof Bakers2 and we are very pleased with it.  So much better than our 25 year old roof.  Hope yours is a success as well. Best of luck. Glad your conservatory furniture went into the dining room and you managed to escape!laughing Let us know how it goes.  Yes our SIL did the run.  He was all fired up and ready to go so went for it and achieved a good time. (no medal though frown) Apparently the member of the public who reported the 'suspicious behaviour' 'misinterpreted' the situation. What a mess up yell

Good luck with your "roof works" B2, good to get in done before winter arrives.

Hope you didn't get too damp waiting in vain for the race Millie, what a shame it had to be stopped.

Nice to hear some of you are away on your hols, the rain finally stopped here so hope it improves for all.

Whippet week began in style with our other canine visitor here for the day too. None stop puppy play with older grumper terrier. I am too tired to think tonight! Have vowed not to volunteer ever again. wink

Good H/S there, Kjell. You can watch the trains passing along the line from Carnforth to Leeds. We've used it often in the past, even over the winter period. Just a word of advice, the owners do not like to be disturbed for payment on a Sunday.Lovely friendly couple who have helped us out in the past in very windy weather.

By the sounds of it we've been fortunate again with the weather. As it was forecast for this afternoon we just did a shortish walk from the van along the old line before lunch, This afternoon we went to Chillingham Castle.....now that is an "interesting" place....definitely suits it name as in chilly by both name and nature. One could spend hours looking at all of the articles that are scattered throughout the castle. It even has a torture chamber with grotesque models. It's supposed to be the most spooky castle in Britain and it felt like that!! I was amused by the letters from previous visitors who had "borrowed" pieces from the place only to return them because of unfortunate things happening to them after the theft.

It was raining when we came out so decided not to go and view the Chillingham Cattle, the only herd of truly wild cattle in Britain. Will save that for another day. The rain has continued through the evening but may now have stopped in time for our last walk out.

Hope all goes well with the roof, B2, and you don't have too much rain, if any.

Have a good time at Seacroft, JVB, and you too H&T in Yorkshire.

Stay dry all that are away if you can.

Forgot to ask about arrival time, do they have any restrictions?

Busy day here today finishing off the decorating that’s the living room, dining room and kitchen finished. Also the tenant who lives in the house we rent out has moved out today such a shame as she was a good tenant and caused us no problems but she got a bigger place. Not sure whether we will rent it again or maybe sell and buy something else to do up and sell on if we can get someone we know to rent it then great but I don’t fancy renting through an agent as you can never be sure who you get it. Moved the caravan today too and washed it as it was filthy as e have been a few trips since the last time it was cleaned it’s amazing the difference it went from Grey to bright white again. Just got it back on it’s space in the drive when the heavens opened  so lucky. Glad to hear others have had a productive weekend the week ahead will be busy for us my brother is arriving. From New Zealand on Thursday and we are having a family party for him at ours on Saturday night so will be busy.

Weather was rainy this morning at home, but got just south of Birmingham and the weather seemed to brighten.  Further to previous comments.... we decided on Burford CAMC site.  Left daughter and son in law back at home who are doing just a touch of decorating for us after a roof leak about 10 days ago.  That is all repaired now, but lovely that the kids offered to do some of the remedial work while we are away for a few days.

Not that I know of, we've never had any problems that way. The road to the site needs a little care but nothing to be of concern. Enjoy your stay there.

All dressed up and nowhere to go!

Well not quite - all emptied out and pouring with rain so phone call about 8am saying forecast for tomorrow better so old roof off new one on tomorrow. I'd even moved the car from the drive to allow them the space 😒.

Managed to sit, just me πŸ˜‚, at the dining room table for breakfast. A bit of a rejiggle will allow 2 for lunch and dinner. I cannot abide eating without a table.

Tomorrow should be cosy, conservatory roof,  new meters - alledgedly smart but I'm not convinced as signal very poor in our house. (Not tried the understairs cupboards πŸ˜‰ but you can't move if on the mobile without losing signal ). And my brother SIL and their 1 year granddaughter coming as SIL has preoperative assessment so will be our way πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. Hopefully i can be excused lunch, play can be a walk to the local park and lunch out if it fits in.

It's actually raining quite hard now so good call. Also makes it easy to take OH to see the GP nurse and then we can find something to amuse ourselves!

    Enjoy your day folks.

DSB how lovely that your daughter and SIL are doing decorating for you. Love it. Have a great few days away.

our conservatory roof is triple polycarbonate and we've loved it. Awoke back in February whilst OH in hospital and son staying opened curtains to find a hole in the roof. He went to work, cut tarpaulin to cover,  duct taped it then placed a brick on it. (Belt and braces we had no idea at that stage on outcome for OH)Fortunately no leak even with the 3 inches of rain in the past few days. Whole roof to be replaced as company no longer use the original system (19 years old) as to replace a panel those to the side have to be removed and replaced. We had one replaced once years ago and the colour has never quite matched since. But the panels get brittle hence a new system that allows individual removal and replacement of panels. Hoping not to need to put to the test!

Not impressed with the insurance company, a big one with a good reputation, so just sorting ourselves. I actually worked as a claims assistant years ago for one part of this company before the merger - boy has their attitude changed 😲. I'll say no more......... No I wasn't looking for betterment!

Good luck with the new meters. We had ours changed earlier in the year plus a little gizmo in the house which gives us real time reading of what we have used. The internal display has to be relatively near to the meters. Ours are on the outside of the house and the internal display inside about a yard away! We have had a few issues with the internal display which have now been sorted out but it resulted in us having to wait five months for our first bill! It was worth waiting for because about a month before the new meters we had a new combi boiler installed and gas consumption has dropped to a quarter of the same period the year before. Doubt we will be quite so lucky when the weather gets cold!!! Electricity was down a bit as well that that is probably due to us being away more this year?

Interesting read regarding useage David. I'm more on the side of new boiler and your being away. Would have been interesting if it was before new boiler fitted. But one really can't compare, even daily, like for like use without recording what's on and how much used eg water heater x hours, x showers and other hot water use, assuming no heat and life's too short for that in my opinion and fortunately I don't need to at this stage.

We've been on a smart meter tariff for couple of years and avoided them so far. We turnoff unnecessary lights etc and don't heat what we consider unnecessarily. So I can't see that a gadget, which probably requires power, will see us make major changes πŸ˜‰. Time will tell.

Hope the trip to Sheffield goes well TDA, don't envy you the traffic.

B2, we have the "power gadget" but no smart meter. No actual power needed it just reads the "signals" on it's own and OH seems to like looking at it! wink Our new boiler has been more efficient so far and changing energy suppliers every year has helped too. smile

We had a nice surprise in the post this afternoon. At the end of our holiday Mrs M realised that she'd left her jewellery box at the hotel in Lisbon - nothing very valuable, just everyday things. We emailed the hotel to ask if they'd found it and could they post it to us if so. They replied to say they couldn't but they did work with a courier company who would. We got the email from them saying it would cost €70 - more than the stuff was worth! So we declined , then they said they could just post it for  €29 but it would take 10-15 working days. Would we phone them to arrange it. By now it was the last afternoon and we were about to set off on a tour of Porto.  So we left our details with the girl at reception on the boat who said she would phone and arrange it for us. And lo and behold, it turned up today, just 4 days later neatly parcelled up in a huge brown box. So all's well that ends well!   smile

(Apart from the fact that I'd already ordered some replacement items for her birthday on Friday in case the lost ones didn't actually arrive !  surprised

    Bakers2

The lower consumption was due to the fact that we now have a combi boiler which provides hot water on demand whereas previously we had a hot water tank which we used to heat for various lengths of time during the day whether we used the hot water or not! Clearly this is very wasteful of energy. The Smart Meter display just shows what you use and displays that in a form where you can see the current pricing rather than the old meter only showed in cubic metres used and Kw's used and you generally had to wait for the bill before you knew how much it was going to cost.

We left Englethwaite Hall mid morning - the first time there was no rain since we arrived on Friday night. We had to be home in time for me to make dinner (aka lunch).

We probably won’t get away in the caravan now till Spring. It’s more difficult when all the stock is inside.

We are going to a gig (Martin Joseph) in Carlisle next month and thought about staying at the same site again, but it will be closed. We could just drive home, but I’ve booked a Premier Inn. Interestedly it will be Β£44.50  one night. Englethwaite Hall was Β£44.00 for three nights. I know which I prefer.

If the replacements were somewhere between €30-70 then all I can say is Cheapskate!smile

Settled into our new CL today near Snape. We were lucky that we managed to pack up and get set up in the dry. It wasn't that bad of a day weather wise.

We bought 2 Trouts from Waitrose for our dinner. They were delicious steamed in a parcel with fennel and a drop of white wine. Best fish I've had for a while.🐟🐟
