"We got the email from them saying it would cost €70 - more than the stuff was worth"

"If the replacements were somewhere between €30-70 then all I can say is Cheapskate!" smile

Several years ago Mrs M had some of her late mother's jewellery stolen when we were on holiday in Tenerife - valuable items both in terms of monetary and sentimental value. So now she only takes a selection of everyday stuff with her.

But yes, I'll admit to being frugal (or "tight" as she'd probably say!laughing)

What a wet day here in the Cotswolds.  Burford CAMC site is lovely, and consider the rain we've had today, the drainage seems quite good.

We decided to take a visit to t'The Christmas Shop' in Lechlade.  We first went there several years ago.  How disappointed we were to find that the have 'downsized and now occupy a shop on the opposite side of the road.  Only a shadow of its former self.  I guess times are hard and they might be finding it difficult to pay.  The old shop was brilliant.... now it is really poor, and I have to admit, I bought an ornament to help support them!

As we were close by, we drove into Swindon for the supermarket.  Not really a fan of Swindon (sorry).  Traffic was heavy - so many roundabouts - and we didn't even get to the mother of all roundabouts!!  smile

Yay - our Thomas Cook refund landed in our bank account today!!  All done automatically as we were paying by direct debit so we didn't have to put in a claim which was a relief.  We are now considering our options and I have spent the evening on the internet. We are not going to rush into anything just yet though. VERY wet here today.  Met up with friends I used to work with for coffee this morning and then popped over to see a good friend to drop her husband's birthday card in and had a good catch up with her.

Best of luck with your new roof tomorrow Bakers2.  It is supposed to be a drier day.  Sorry to hear of your problems with the insurance company. They make me cross these days.  Very happy to take an exorbitant amount of money and then don't want to pay out. yell

Moulesy - happy birthday to Mrs M for Friday.  I am sure she will like her extra jewellery.  Result though to get back the items she left behind returned.

I hope the weather improves for you David.  Burford is a really nice site and the town of Burford is very good as well. We enjoyed our stay there a few years ago.

Glad you had a good trip away despite the weather goldie.

Enjoy Seacroft JVB and have a good rest. I wonder whether people have had to be cancelled if all the grass pitches are out of use?

You could try Dalston Leisure CL, Goldie, easy access into Carlisle from there, and a lot cheaper than the Premier Inn!!wink Shame about the weather but at least you both will have had a good rest.

new meters - alledgedly smart but I'm not convinced as signal very poor in our house. (Not tried the understairs cupboards 😉 but you can't move if on the mobile without losing signal ).

B2, we've a very similar problem with wifi & phone signal down stairs but the 2nd generation of Smart Meters send a radio signal which is supposed to work better. We're hoping to get our meters fitted when we get back home from this trip.

Good to hear that you got the jewellery back. Moulesy, although it has cost you some for the replacements. Early birthday greetings to Mrs M.

Glad that you got your money back, millie. Where are you considering for your replacement trip?

Fine day again  with no wind for a change, so after doing the laundry we drove up the Breamish Valley and then walked up to Linhope Spout. Stopped off to view a new CL in the valley...looks good with 4 H/S pitches, so another good alternative to the site we're on at the moment. Had a pleasant wander over from our site, on our return, to one of the lakes on the estate to view the birdlife. Lots of Geese in the fields and ducks on the water.

I don’t know if garden centres are your thing, but there’s a good one just outside Burford. I can give directions if you’re interested 👍

Yes will be interesting to see if they bring 2nd generation ones. I hear they (some companies but I know not which)  are still pushing out 1st generation 😉. Not sure I care much as I've had to empty the floor area of both cupboards under the stairs and add to the chaos that used to be our dining room! Actually I'm well impressed with the storage, I've got in a nest of tables the small kitchen table and a chair, 2 armchairs and a 3 seater settee AND we both sat at the dining room table for dinner tonight! JUST 😂😂. Cant get in the cupboards though!

I wasn't in the right frame of mind for sorting as I emptied cupboards tonight but NOT everything will be going back, despite OH hoarding tendencies! 2 small solar panels for charging vehicle batteries not seen daylight for 10 years 😱😱😱.

Glad you had a good rest Goldie sounds like it ended with a bump once home 😉.

Been WET here must of the day like so many other places. Stay dry folks home or away.

I did look at that CL, but as we will only be there one night, decided on the Premier Inn. It's the one at J42 and the concert is more or less just up the road at Harraby Community Centre.

B2, we are in a mess too. I indicated to our son at the weekend that I didn't want our old  dresser any more (it has drawers and top cupboards.) He said he'd happily take it home with him...leave dog, take dresser! So the contents, rather a lot, have been emptied into a bedroom, piles of stuff strewn everywhere. They are going to use it to store plates and kitchen stuff. Hope you get straightened out soon. I will now have to clear out more things and get a smaller cupboard.

Good to hear of your holiday refund Millie, our older daughter and partner are waiting for theirs. They have rebooked a v different holiday as it needed to fit in with planned work holidays etc. So I'm glad they have sorted that part, it sounds like a better holiday too!

The duck confit obtainable from Upton Smokery is very nice😋. Plus they sell lots of other very more-ish products. Might be worth a visit while in the area.

A wet drive back from Cirencester on Sunday. Parked the van outside the house so we could unload and clean it. We couldn't do that with the caravan, there just wasn't room. Cleaned inside and out yesterday, although we finished washing the outside in the pouring rain. As it continued to rain into the evening, decided to take it back to storage this morning, which I must get going and do. As we then need to go shopping. The nice people at Tesco sent me a £7 off £50 coupon, so I guess we will be going there.😀 Plus if you spend £60 you get a 10p off a litre of fuel coupon and the MH needs about 50 / 60 litres, as it was last filled at Bayeux.

Do you mean the one on the Shilton Road?  It looks like quite a large concern.  On Saturday we went to the Garden Centre at Trentham Gardens, just outside Stoke - that one is really worth a visit.  We do tend to like garden centres as we can take the dog in.  The two local to us at Tamworth, we can even take the dog into the cafe/ restaurants.  That's really important to us as our little Lizzie won't be left on her own.

I also recommend Burford Garden Centre, it is like no other. They sell art, antiques, furniture, specialist garden furniture, an amazing deli and a restaurant with wonderful food. Oh yes and plants! Not sure dogs are allowed though and a bit cold for the outdoor cafe. We go regularly, travelling all the way from Stratford on Avon, could wander round for hours, and Do. Nothing is cheap though, tip, leave the credit card at home.

Glad to hear about your refund Millie, I weakened today and put in a claim but have now had an email assuring us we will get a refund before the end of the month but would still have rather been heading for Cuba after Xmas.

I am sure you will get your refund soon AD. They seem to be dealing with it all very efficiently. Sorry about your Cuba holiday. We also would prefer to be going on our booked holiday with TC.  We are trying to find another company that use the same hotel and have a vacancy in one of the bigger rooms with bigger balcony that we like and have used for years but no luck so far. Relieved that we have our refund though.

Brue I am pleased to hear that your daughter and her partner have got another holiday booked. Best of luck with your clearing and sorting. Any mention from your son about collecting your visiting puppy yet laughing

It's been a good year for apples here. We have a couple of trees near the house and some more about a mile away that my late  father in law planted a long time ago. We have a large pond (agricultural term, not a garden pond!) that is more or less left alone, and is fenced in with a locked gate. That's where the trees are. Not near a footpath, but one tree has been stripped. So, we're picked some of the others and today I have been putting them in bags in the freezer - using an Apple Processor I bought years and years ago. And then some in an Almond and Apple Cake.

Hiya. From the site, turn left onto the road to Burford. When you get to the roundabout, take the last exit (before doubling back on yourself). Then filter over to the right, taking the right turn. The GC is on the left.

Villefranche near Nice? We were there two weeks ago! Sat and had a drink on the waterfront. Lovely place🙂

We've been to Bourton on the Water this morning.  Just arrived at Burford Garden centre -as you say, dogs aren't allowed such a shame.  Not to worry - Carol has gone for a look around.  I'm sitting outside on one of the chairs with the dog.  I don't mind - at least I'm not spending any money....wink

What a day its been so far.

Call to the Dr's surgery to organise our Flu jab, before going away at the end of the month. Practice not starting programme until the 31st Oct, we leave on the 28th.

Checked at Pharmacy to see if they can do it, "sorry you are over 65 so we can't"

WHAT!  "under 65 we can do as they have the X strain, over 65 have the Y strain and we are not allowed to have that, as its only to be given by a Dr's practice.

What if I'm quite happy to have that one as the Dr's aren't doing theirs until after we have left.

NO, sorry we can't, not allowed.

So what do you suggest, " well you could go on holiday and have it done when you come back in December"

Kind of defeats the object of getting it done doesn't it?

" Well its your fault for going on holiday before they start the programme of vaccination" yell

Talk about farcical. Went back to Dr's surgery and explained in person the situation. Receptionist also suggested getting done on our return surprised kind of defeats the object I says again.  We are going to be away for 6  weeks mixing with folk from all over Europe, who may well have been to other parts of the world prior to that.

If I was going on a cruise would you do the vaccination? well yes as you would be mixing with other Nationals yell

If someone had told me this tale, I would not have believed them.

Anyway I've asked that the practice give this some thought, as I feel that the fuss that the Goverment and the NHS are making about folk getting the vaccination done, justifies the practice giving us the vaccination a few days earlier than their programme.

Even this is fraught with problems as the practice manager is on holiday and not back until Monday. I did say that I considered this a clinical matter not Admin. We will see undecided

Did some gardening at my sisters this morning, she's not that keen a gardener and at the moment not really interested in anything. OH took his ladders and fixed a leak in their roof gutters. Came home for lunch then went out and washed and polished the caravan, along with OH of course. smile

OH going to Dr's tomorrow for a check up, if everything is ok then I will book the ferry on his return. smile

MillieH, glad that you got your money back from TC. We had flights booked with them for Lanzarote, we've applied to the CC company for a refund, should hear something in the next week or so. They didn't think it would be a problem as they can see quite clearly that we paid for the flights on the card. In fact it was them that got in touch with us to claim back.

Dry day so far, we even saw a bit of watery sun for awhile.

    TAMMYGIRL

I'm not sure of the differences between the Scottish & English sections of the System BUT it's still called the National Health Service so I'd be inclined to go on line !.

The Surgery that I use is ruled, if that's the correct term, by the South Cheshire  N H S Clinical Commissioning Group. I'm sure that there must be a similar organisation covering the surgeries round the Perth area. It might be worth asking them for their advice, or even to intervene on behalf of all mobile patients on their patch / territory or whatever. My surgery told us via texts last month that the first Saturday in October 'tween 9 & 11 am was our Flu Jab Administering time  so the correct  Over 65s vaccine must have been available then

That apart, the watery Sun came out about two hours ago, cool warmed us only to flatter, then disappeared twenty minutes later so now its Cheshire Grey again  frown
