I'm guessing then that van beds still not sorted.  We are going over this Saturday so will give your regards to Germany.  Not sure where we will go after the Mosel as we have to cut our trip by 7 days, but whatever happens we will be returning via the Brenne.

Unfortunately mentioning the fry up has got the juices rising, but I must be strongwink

We are at Ikea and have just had one of their cooked breakfasts, not particularly healthy but very tasty!

Here to research oven housings for DD for the next house project in the autumn.  That list of jobs is growing again!

WN......hope you are feeling better and will soon be back home, never easy to get a decent sleep in hospital, always something going on.

We have some favourite places but nothing really within 30 minutes drive.  Anyway just a few of our favourites are Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal is a lovely place, easy to walk around, reasonable restaurant too.   Newby Hall is excellent and beautiful gardens.  Nearer to York is Beningborough Hall - we don’t find the house very interesting, even though the house is an outpost of the National Portrait Gallery, the gardens are nice to walk round.  The coast of course, Bempton Cliffs and the walk along the cliffs is lovely when weather permitting, Filey, Whitby, etc.  Also Rievaulx Abbey (English Heritage) and Rievaulx Terrace (NT) near Helmsley.  We also did the Easter Egg hunt at Castle Howard with our grandchildren and another place they enjoy when they visit is Stockeld Park near Wetherby (although I think only open during school holidays).  As for pubs for dinner they all seem a bit hit and miss, though several good ones towards the North Yorks Moors.

Have just returned from a shortened trip to the Forest of Dean, meandering back via the Cotswolds. Visited some interesting NT & EH sites. I was particularly taken with Chedworth Roman Villa. The mosaics were even more impressive than the relatively local ones at Fishbourne.

    Oh bugger.yell

Got my results back and there is still quite a bit of blood in the lung area. Have to do it all again tomorrow.

Did have to laugh (not literally as it hurts). When I got back from x-ray dept. breakfast had been served. The staff know I've had problems with the kitchen, getting GF food, so there was a full box of GF Cornflakes sitting on my tray. For lunch I had ordered a bowl of Rice pudding which should be GF. Kitchen had sent up a carton of cold Ambrosia Rice pudding instead. I had intended just to have the bowl for lunch.

Mrs WN acting as plan B everyday.smile

Here's hoping that you make it out tomorrow, WN. Is Mrs WN managing to smuggle in those bottle of TT for you?

Much better day here in D&G, with only the odd light shower and plenty of sunshine. Drove round the coastal road to Kirkudbright stopping off at Carrick, & Brighouse Bay, where we had a couple of decent walks, the second one taking in a visit to Brighouse Caravan Park....not overly impressed....and Gull Craig.

Wherenext thinking of you - and Mrs Wherenext. It's not an easy ride for either of you. Gosh hospital food isn't great, the mildest of statements 😉, at the best of times and being GF must make it really hard, nothing prepared on site! Our nearest hospital has a decent M&S concession which was a fantastic help to us both. I'm sorry to hear that there is lots more blood in the wrong place, I presume you can't speed up the draining process in any way? I hope you managed some sleep, again not easy!

Cyberyacht glad to hear you enjoyed your Firest of Dean trip but sad you had to shorten it. I hope everythings ok.

We had heavy rain yesterday afternoon, not forecast!, and as much , if not more, as the low brought at the weekend. The gardener lady was due at 1pm just as the heavens really opened, we said hello - already discussed the work Saturday morning, and I took OH to an appointment. Not close enough to return home until he'd finished over an hour later, I sat in the car reading in the downpour. Delighted to return home to find the gardener had stayed and worked despite the rain. She'd filled both brown bins and half of those ton sacks they deliver sand etc in! We had a cuppa and I joined her, the rain had ceased by then and we continued for another hour. Gosh the wildlife area at the end of the garden was soooo much denser than I'd feared 😱😱😱. We added another heap to the ground for disposal as well as filling the sack 😯. Brown bins are to be emptied Friday but I reckon I can fill them both again and more with what's left out so it looks like a dump run is needed too. I'm going to ask neighbours if their brown bins have space too! Cheeky or what???

The gardener said she'd been joined by Robin's, frogs and newts as she worked and we were joined by 3 Robin's as we cleared, we didnt turn the soil over but they were finding tasty treats!

I think a few more good sessions with the gardener will make a huge improvement and I'll feel better able to cope. Sadly she's not available again until early September and I've booked her. Need to sort out disposal as she seems to be of the 'Tammygirl' mould where work rate and energy are concerned and you can certainly see where she's been 😂.

I have hair cut this morning and OH has exercise class at lunchtime, so routine stuff needs fo be fitted around these.

Enjoy your day folks, whatever you're doing.

Rather cream crackered now and still need to sort dinner!

Spent 2.5 hours in the garden, only planned on a hour as I was already weary! Disposed of the heap of trimmings on the ground - too much to fit in the already full ton sack! Borrowed a completely empty brown bin with the offer of further use after Friday when it's been emptied, an almost empty bin and the top 1/3 of another. Just left with about a 1/4 of a bin in the ton sack so that can go in the offered bin over the weekend, leaving ours for further prunings. Was planning on doing some tomorrow but checked forecast - rain all day, might be like Monday, forecast sun and dry and we had torrential rain!  Not prepared to take the chance. Cut the grass too so the garden's looking tidy, at least it stays that way longer than the house!

Tomorrow I  have the opticians and quick gathering of bits I need in town. Bound to be expensive as I need new glasses after cataract op, I already have the prescription but tomorrow is contact lens check and I've run out of lenses for non cataract op eye and await to see if 'new' eye needs anything - I'm long sighted in that I now 😂.  Hopefully Thursday will be a 'free' day and we can take ourselves out for some R&R.

We are at Hawthorne Cottage near Coleford, a very pleasant AO site in the Forest of Dean, but surrounded by trees so no phone signal, and only just managed to get signed up for wifi.

We actually arrived yesterday - discovered that somewhere in transit the shower door had fallen off! yell Still one upside is that since we don't actually use the shower it makes it much easier to store stuff in there, so wish I'd thought of it earlier! wink

Today we did a lovely walk along the river Wye, over this rickety suspension bridge and then a lung bursting climb up from the riverside to Symonds Yat viewpoint. Not quite as busy there as I thought it might be and then back through the forest to the Camping in the Forest site at Bracelands where we spent many happy summers back in our camping days!

Tomorrow looks grim! frown Might need to get a move on with the latest Logan McRae! smile

Best wishes to the injured and poorly, hang in there, it will get better!

Lovely area Forest of Dean M, we stayed on a peculiar campsite overlooking Tintern Abbey a good few years ago. No longer a CL was struck off at some point, but it’s still thriving! As you say, some lung busting walks around there.

We visited Totnes today, always interesting and utterly thriving, not a single empty shop in sight. No chains, no Costa, no Starbucks, just great little independent shops doing some great quality products and at reasonable prices. From there, we drove to Berry Pomeroy Castle, and had a bit of a walk. Couldn’t get into Berry Pomeroy Church sadly, we were too late, but for film buffs, it features in the last wedding scene at the end of Sense and Sensibility. One to go back to another time......😁

Sorry to hear that you're unlikely to be home tonight, WN, hopefully tomorrow!!

You certainly have been very busy in the garden, B2. Don't overdo it or you'll suffer for all that hard work. Hope that it won't be too expensive at the opticians tomorrow.

We had another decent day mostly. Did the washing first thing and it was out for a short while before we went out. Decided to hang it up in the van before we went as it looked like rain, and glad that we did as we had a shower just as we were sitting down up in Cairnsmore Nature Reserve forest. Fortunately it only lasted a short while and we managed a 7 ml or so walk. Sun was shining when we got back to the van so out again with it and all dry before dinner this evening.

Great couple of days we've just had. My brother and wife came up from down south. Haven't seen them in 3 years.

This afternoon we all went to Mums carehome, where my brother did a gig.

Over the years he has sung solo, in groups, bands and for awhile him and his mate were a duet.

Nowadays he goes round care homes giving them an afternoon of songs from the old days.

It was a pleasure to watch him bring the residents to life, by the end of his session most of them were clapping along and more than a few were singing alongsmile

He loves performing, it brought back memories for me as I grew up with him in the next bedroom learning to play a guitar and singing Elvis Presley sangs (his favourite) today we had Matt Munro, Perry Como, Dean Martin, Johnny Cash, Cliff Richard and of course Elvis. What a great time we had.

This evening we all went out to dinner,  tomorrow they go back down the road.

    Morning all.

How wonderful, TG. Music can be great not just for youngsters but for the elderly and infirm. One of the patients in my ward of 6 has Dementia and is a right awkward one for the nurses to handle. No-one can get him to eat or co-operate. One of the auxillary's put some Matt Munroe on her iphone. He ate like a horse and allowed them to change him whenever they wanted to. So now we get Munro, Elvis, Roy Orbison etc.

    Still draining like a swamp.frown

    Good morning Wherenext

its nice to see your posts early in the morning. I can imagine you trying to keep yourself entertained with ct. You must be going stir crazy. Has your food improved any? I hope your results enable you to go home soon.

Day off for me today so it's haggis and bacon rolls for breakfast. (Sorry wherenext 😐) Then it's off to the caravan in storage to look at the battery. We think it's time to buy a new one. The forecast is very wet here all day so I won't get in the garden, sadly.

Enjoy your day everybody whatever you're up to.

Morning Wherenext, I take it you've the joys of more scans to check draining of blood. Hope it's almost all gone so you can make a swift exit. I hope you're eating something nice from home and that the music is working on the poor chap with dementia. Hospital stays are challenging enough without the extras. OH was in his own room for almost all his 87 day stay, he likes his own company but challenging other ways! I hope you have more forum to read and contribute too? Cos these days CT has few posts!

Tammygirl sounds like you've had some nice family time. A friend of ours is involved with music in hospitals, he's also played in Broadmoor - you can imagine the jokes about that as they can't escape 😂. He has had to scale back as funds are short so travelling isn't covered - sad as it seems to be very uplifting.

Rain has arrived here so looks like a wet trip into town. Got the opticians so still technically a medical appointment!

Enjoy your day folks wherever you are whatever you're doing. In some cases it will be easier for some than others! ABM it's your fault  talking about mud and steam 😉

True to Madame Kirkwood's words we woke up to ppppppersistent rain this morning, started about 5 o'clock and has just eased off enough to take Lady out for a little stroll and to do the necessary! wink

Looks like it's going to be pretty wet for most of the day although it is forecast to turn into a better late afternoon/evening, so hope to get out for a good walk later.

Meantime, here are some examples of the forest sculpture trail. There are 17 in all, each illustrating some aspect of the forest. The first one here is supposed to represent a fish (the forest lies between two rivers, the Severn and the Wye). The second recalls the railway tracks that used to run through the forest (it doesn't look very special but each of the sleepers has an individual carving depicting aspects of forest life). The third, seen across a pond are carvings of an acorn and a fir cone (more detailed than they appear here) and the fourth is a huge stained glass window suspended between two trees - representing the "cathedral" of the forest.  It's an intriguing 4 miles circuit. smile

Moulsey looks like the sculptures make interesting interludes during the walk. Not been to the Forest of Dean, another to add to my list! Visits list seems very much like home to do lists, cross off one thing add at least one to the other end. Still gives one a purpose in life! 😂😂. Looks like it's the day for the latest Logan McCrae, let me know what you think of it. Going to have to locate it soon, but still have plenty to occupy me in other ways at present.

Good news WN, will be a while before you are back to normal, hope you are not in too much pain.

We are having 2 days in a row at home, very unusual of late,  and resume our child minding duties tomorrow as the schools up here are starting back tomorrow, at least the teachers are.  We will be doing Wednesday and Thursday afternoons as before, and also Fridays meantime as DD's request for flexible working has been turned down.

OH has been finishing off the Guide Hall accounts ready for auditing, and today is doing a plan for DD's utility room refit so we can pick up the required items at the weekend.  Trying to think what I have been doing.....mainly pottering in the garage, instead of doing the tidying that OH wants me to do!!

Next big thing is doing my tax return  frown

What have I been doing today, waiting around for a phone call from our Dr's surgery (practice manager)

I'm not one for complaining, especially about the service we get from our Dr's which I think is very good.

However its the admin side that I'm not happy with, so on Monday I asked to speak with the practice manager, told she would call me back, I said I would be going out at 13.30 and not returning until evening time. The manager called at 15.40 yell

Phoned on Tuesday morning to speak with her to be told she is busy she will call between 2 and 4, informed them that I would be out between those hours so arranged for her to call today.

No phone call received so I called them to be told she doesn't work on a Wednesday from the office but at home. They kindly called her then me back again, she forgot yell sorry.

Promise of a call in the morning undecided if she thinks she is going to get an easy ride she is in for a shock.

Other than that while I have been waiting frown I've been sat at the sewing machine for a couple of hours and then outside painting the nice new trellis that OH has made smile rain started so had to come indoors. Not heavy but I can't paint when its raining. frown

Bakers2, glad that you are getting your garden sorted out and you have your very own 'tammygirl'  laughinglaughinglaughing

I'm still pottering around our garden finding jobs to do, OH has now finished the DIY projects I'd tasked him with. smile  All that's left for him to do it to trim the 2 big hedges and to get on the roof and fit a new antenna booster box to the antenna. The one up there has been there for years and we've been having intermittent signal problems so he suspects it needs a new box and rewired.

Next job for me will be to start gathering all the stuff for the caravan together and taking it out and put it away in the van. We are going to have a weekend away again to try out the new car and also to avoid yet another 'party' next door.

This afternoon our eldest son, wife and 2 grandchildren have started on there way up here, they won't get here until late tonight though. As usual they will be staying with our DIL's parents but l dare say we will see them at some stage. Both of the children start back at boarding school next Tuesday, first time for our grandson and the 3rd year now for our granddaughter.

Can't be late with dinner tonight as OH has a meeting to go to at 19.00.

WN hope you get home tonight and that you are not in too much discomfort.

Moulsey, never been to the Forest of Dean, it looks a good place to visit, is the site as good as hoped.

It brightened up enough this afternoon to get out and about.  So after  lunch at The Ostrich in Newland we drove to Redbrook and did another walk starting along the Wye and climbing steeply up to the old church at Penalt. Should have had some great views back down to the river valley but it was too misty really to see anything. Still, had to do something to walk off the calories from those wild boar sausages! wink

TG - the site is very nice, just 10 pitches, AO, very quiet at night. Toilet and shower both basic but clean and perfectly useable.  You can walk direct onto one of the forest footpaths.Pitches are a bit slopey and it .would have been very tricky to get on ours if we hadn't got a mover. But excellent value at £14 a night. smile

We are back from our lovely 10 days away at Houghton Mill.  The weather was a bit 'iffy' at times but we still got out and about - St Ives, Ely, Wimpole Hall, Anglesey Abbey as well as some lovely local walks when we saw some baby alpacas which were very cute. SIL messaged us on Saturday morning to let us know that 9 year old grand-daughter was playing football in St. Ives so we went and supported her in a howling gale.surprised.  Lovely to see her, our grandson and SIL though. DIL came over on Monday afternoon with 2 grandsons and dog Jessie so we had a nice walk and then they helped us take down the awning which was a great help. Back to reality now - OH has yet another hospital tomorrow as he is sadly still on their list. frown. A bone scan this time.

I hope you have manged to get back home this evening WN and that you are feeling a bit more comfortable.

Have a wonderful time in the Forest of Dean moulesy.  It is such a lovely part of the world.  We have some very fond memories of times spent their with some good friends who lived there.

Nice to hear that you have such a good gardener Bakers2.  She sounds an absolute treasure.  I hope that the opticians appt wasn't too expensive.

Your brother's gig at your Mum's care home sounds absolutely wonderful Tammygirl. What a wonderful thing to do.

Hope that the OH's scan is clear, millie. You sound as if you has another good trip to Haughton Mill.

After a good day yesterday we payed for it today. We've had rain from sometime in the night virtually all the way through the day. We did manage one dryish walk out of 3 so far and I doubt that the last one will be any better. Hopefully tomorrow will be a good bit better.
