We had another night and morning of torrential rain with the odd period of dry weather. We did managed an hour's dry walk this morning and just got back to the van before the thunder and lightning rolled over and it poured down again. It was warm and sticky all day, and we've not had much wind. The rain finally stopped around 3:30 and the sun came out giving us a pleasant end to the day.

It's a nice site David.  Very quiet on site, but suffers a bit from road noise from A350.  We're here 'till Thursday, and then we are moving to Townsend Touring at Pembridge, near Leominster.  Off to explore Lacock tomorrow and have booked to go for a meal tomorrow night at The Bell at Lacock to celebrate our 40th Wedding anniversary... laughing

Had to drive down to London today to young Mila's 1st Birthday party. Quite a few caravans on the M40, all taking it steady in the wind. I am beginning to think that my days of driving 150/200 miles in a day to attend events, without an overnight stay, are going to be limited in the future! It seems totally different driving the same distance in the motorhome when you know you have a nice comfy stop at the end of the journey.

The visit today was to the South American section of the family. Despite us not getting there until nearly 2.00pm no sign of any food for hours it seemed!!! South Americans when they are relaxed are just that - relaxed!!!  It was nice to see Mila again. Not quite walking and probably a bit overwhelmed by all the people although it was clear who her favorites were, I am yet to enter that list!!! I got her a colourful wooden crocodile which is like a jigsaw with letters of the Alphabet and numbers on the individual parts. Hopefully educational as well as fun! Also got her another, but smaller Paddington Bear - Her Grandfather comes from Peru, I hope he doesn't cotton on!!! She seems to like books, another good sign, and Paul her other Grandfather had a book made where the main character is called Mila. (apparently you can do this sort of thing online) The drive back was much easier with the M40 (I know it's the long way round) almost deserted in places!!

Hope you had a good day David and that Mila had a good birthday - they grow up so quickly.  For some reason, I'm not a fan of the M40.  In spite of the other busier motorways it still remains my least favourite motorway to drive on, for some inexplicable reason!. laughing

Internet access seems a bit iffy here (nothing to do with CAMC.) I thought I'd settle down last night and watch the Warner Bros proms on BBC4 iplayer, half way through it ground to a halt. So got up early to watch a garden programme this morning and missed half of it, not my day for communications.

Read a few post on here, hope Nellie has some better weather, I think we've sent it all up north now, a nice sunny morning here, finally. our garden is covered in debris from the winds.

Congratulations to David and wife on your 40th, hope you have a lovely meal out.

And the other David, that sounded like quite a long trip to see little Mila but worth it I'm sure (you'll have to take some secret sandwiches next time!?)

I might manage a walk out today, I've only been able to amble round the garden recently but had a good nights sleep and feel like stretching my legs this morning (just a stroll!)

Hope WN has had a good night and some rest. smile

It's a lazy day here. I've already got two loads of washing on the line. (Trying to beat the rain that's forecast from 14:00 onwards) I'm sat here planning what to cook for a tapas meal next weekend for our friends. So far it's sausage meatballs in tomato sauce and cod wrapped in Parma ham with garlic.😊

Thanks for the thought Brue but unfortunately not. Too uncomfortable and we have a dementia patient in our 6 man ward who is a bit of a shouter. Apparently he came in from a care home 1 month ago, had some treatment, was medically discharged but the home wouldn't take him back so he's taking up a bed in a trauma unit. Seems to be happening more and more around the country.

I'm waiting for my x-ray and I think the blood seepage has now stopped. Fingers crossed. Had a bit of a problem during the night when I found the bag seeping so they put a new one on. They opened a new package up and there was no bag in it. There was the surgical tools needed for insertion and the gauzes etc but it all now has to be thrown away. Tge nurse said it was about £350. What a waste.

Down pour last night so ground too wet for the planned walk.

York centre will be heaving, car parks will be very busy, National Trust Treasurer's House, and lunch in riverside restaurant out!

Too cool for the beach at Staithes or Robin Hood bay

North York Moors Railway timetable today doesnt fit our plans, no good.

So off to Castle Howard, wander around the house, and potter around the grounds.

Enjoy Castle Howard, very close to us.  You will find lots of preparations for Countryfile Live which starts on Wednesday (I think!) we are hoping to get there during the time it’s on.   Can I also suggest NT Nunnington Hall, about 20 miles north of York.

It's a pity we didn't know you were staying at Plough Lane, David - it's about 5 minutes down the road from us! Congratulations to you both on your anniversary and enjoy your meal at The Bell - it's the best of the pubs in our opinion - benefits from being just outside the village whereas the ones in the village itself don't have to try so hard to be good - they have a captive audience. The Jolly Huntsman just across the road in Kington St Michael is also good for food.

While you're in the area there's a nice little circuit of villages/towns you can do - Castle Combe to Biddestone to Corsham and Bradford on Avon - all very picturesque.

Have a good time - we're off to the Forest of Dean for a few nights ourselves. smile

Brue, the problem is Margaret's diabetes. As you probably know it's all about planning when you eat in order to get the insulin right. The plan was to stop at a service station for a coffee and something to eat, en route but our son, who we were giving a lift to, wanted to get to the destination which didn't help the situation!

For some reason, I'm not a fan of the M40. In spite of the other busier motorways it still remains my least favourite motorway to drive on, for some inexplicable reason!.

David, not sure I have a favourite motorway although probably the M6 toll might qualify! The quickest route yesterday would have been M1/M25 but other than Toddington no stopping places, I won't go into detail why that might be importantwink At least the are two services on the M40, both usually packed I have to say.

    David

Can highly recommend the Ryedale Folk Museum, up in Hutton le Hole. Gorgeous village, pub serves great food (and does hook ups for MHs). The museum is part under cover, part outside, lots to see, including some rare breed animals. Then do the drive up towards Lastingham, very interesting church, and yet another good pub. Or for a longer drive, up past the Lion Inn, and back round via Rosedale.

We have a glorious sunny warm morning here, so we are in cottage garden wildlife watching and having a chill out.

Sillyness over now so I'm off to vacuum the motor in readiness for the collection of mud that will, doubtless, commence next week dahn Dorset way laughing.

Most stuff already checked, counted, "Best Before " dates sorted, wellies checked for leaks / disintegrating seams etc. so it will be a fairly easy, controlled departure from Crewe down the M6 through the road works. Might even see some road workers I've already got to know surprised.

    Spent a while sorting bird food for neighbour to dole out while I'm away He's quite happy with me 'cos I pointed out a ringed pigeon amongst the feral mob and that one is now " In Custody " while ownership etc is checked. Always done since even a regular roamer may have some value as a breeder { and  I definitely said breeder, thank you sealed }

That’s us home after a nice 5 day break first 3 nights at HOddam Castle Caravan park near Lockerbie. Lovely area and handy for Dumfries and the borders also the site was nice with a bar/restaurant on site recommended for anyone I the area. On Friday we headed up to Strathclyde Park and despite the warnings Friday night and during the day yesterday were lovely sunny and warm and our new sun canopy was a success so will be using that more in the future hopefully. Rain and thunderstorms during the night so got soaked packing up this morning and the drive home was not ideal for towing lots of surface water however we were only an hour from home so not too bad. Not away next weekend as I’m going to a classic car show but we are planning on heading up to Maragowan in Killin for a couple of nights the following week.

We visit Maragowan fairly regularly it’s a lovely site surrounded by nice views and is only a 10 min walk in to the lovely village of Killin. There is also a great pub across the road. In terms of midges we haven’t had much bother with them.

Francis, we've walked through Hoddam Castle site from the bridge car park on both of our visits to Whin CL and along the waymarked trails. It certainly looks a nice site, and were particularly taken with their pods.

DavidK hope that your day goes well and you have a good journey back home. It's quite a trip you'll have done for a day out!!

WN hope that you manage to get a better night's sleep tonight.

Glad to hear that you are feeling a good bit better, brue, and you're able to get out for a short walk now.

    Hi Heddlo

Our caravan is on a seasonal site in the Strensall area, has been for a few years now.

We have done the grounds of Castle Howard but never the house, stunning! My grandson loved this years Easter egg hunt, and to be honest, so did I.😁

Always looking for suggestions in the area. Last Sunday we had a drive about looking for a nice pub for Dinner, around the Linton on Ouse area, views, garden, nothing really stood out.

Anywhere within 30 minutes drive really of base camp, any ideas?

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

    Darren.

Where were you last Sunday when I needed you? 😁

Had a slow potter in Michelle's car around the outskirts of York, lovely countryside, sun out, top down, that's the car not Michelle, nowhere to go.

Thanks for the heads up, we will definitely be taking you up on your suggestions.

    Darren.

Thanks Nellie , had a nice short walk up a hill near us where there are lovely views and even a few blackberries (not many yet) so picked a few and then made a couple of crumbles on return with our windfall apples.

After a nice clear morning the heavens opened and we had torrential rain and a thunderstorm so glad I managed to get out earlier.

Hope everyone else has had a good day. WN I hope you get a better night, not easy in busy places like hospitals. I think you'll be pleased to get home?!

Good to hear about the various days out and stays in different places. smile

Today was much better weather wise, although it looked as if it could rain at any time, and we did have a a few short showers. We did the Kenick Burn walk and more in Laurieston Forest, but decided to return to the van because of the threat of heavy rain, which fortunately didn't materialise. There are quite a lot of ripe Blackberries in the lane down from the site but we won't be bothered picking many as we've not got the apples for a crumble.

    Good morning campers.

Still spending nights at NHS expense. The hotel room is a tad overflowing so hopefully I can make room for them by going home today. The excitement of the nights is a bit too much for me. A bit of Deja Vu day today. Another x-ray and finger crossing.

Hope you all have a good day whatever you are doing.

Hi Oneputt. Yes we were supposed to going over on the 2nd.September but that's not going to happen now. It wasn't happening anyway due to the caravan. I was supposed to be sorting out what was going on with it on the day that I had my accident. So all in all it was a cracking week.

That was wicked mentioning fry up though!🍳yellsmile
