What are you all up to

We have 2 of the awning rail protectors, the dealer however advised that we don't need them as no black mastic on van to cause black streaks, plus he doesn't recommend driving with them in as they cause drag. We duly removed them before going to France and forgot to take them with us for use on site.
To be honest the streaks are not black, just water streaks, they come from the joins in the awning rail which dribble water even if you have the canopy or rail protectors in. Just how they do that I'm not sure but its a pain. As a trial today I used a bit of T cut to remove streak then a couple of coats of polish, seems to have done the trick.
Been a dry day today and not chilly
Oh been busy sorting out the new decking, he's had to do a few modifications so no planks down yet. I've had a lovely day, crawling around on my hands and knees under the Leylandii hedges, behind the shed.
I pulled everything out that OH had 'stored' there, then gave it all a brush down. Sorted out what was rubbish, then made a new path round the shed, levelling the ground with a gentle slope away from the shed. Looks much tidier now, found lots of big pots/containers so will give them all a wash and pot up some of the stuff I have in smaller pots. Oh shed got a brush down to. The shower I had when I came in was lovely

Kj, you sound to be having a good time and good weather
enjoy you have earned it. 0 -
That's the idea, tda, as it's generally a lot less busy down that way than in other areas during the school holidays. Not sorted out sites yet though. Will wait till the van's gone through it's service and hopefully we'll be able to find a few CLs with pitches available.
Nice to hear from you B2, you certainly sound as if you've been busy.

I managed to shift a few but gave up after trying all sorts of cleaner and polish. They are like little tar spots all over the central part of the van roof, so heaven knows how they got there. I think the best way to get rid of them is to paint the roof black.....well it will be different then!!
It's been a lovely sunny day here but there's been a chill breeze all day. After giving up on the roof I cleaned it all again and completed bobby dazzling the rest of the van. Watch most of the first stage of the TdF this afternoon and then completed the weeding in the garden. Our garden could certainly do with a good dose of light rain now, but it looks as if I'll just have to continue with the watering can for the time being.

It might be tar Nellie. We once had it on the roof in France after the tar on the road started to melt one year. I always carry some AutoGlym Tar remover. Swear by the stuff. A little goes a long way.
You could have had some of our rain today. Freddy spoke too soon!

Another lovely sunny and warm day here. Just been doing some odd jobs this morning got the car cleaned out ready for the off next week. Now just sitting out the back garden drinking a coffee. My sister and family are coming over this afternoon for a BBQ. Will need to pack the caravan sort out the awning etc. We are thinking of maybe leaving a day earlier than planned if we can get ready in time

We have had a nice couple of days so far. We stopped off in Howden on way up to East Coast, somewhere we had never stopped before. Minster is very interesting, and the little town itself has some decent shops and interesting buildings. Today was lovely at Burton Agnes, walled garden is in full bloom now. Did the house as well, and the Old Manor House. Site nice and quiet, a few still arriving, guessing there are a lot of regulars here.

Went to see Mum this morning, she is fine
. Had a good long chat with a couple of the senior careers, they say they are noticing a big difference in her, now that she is off the 'new' drug she was put on before we went away.TTDA, many thanks for your comments and encouragement, it gave me the confidence to question the Dr and ask for a review. Mum is now not only calmer, she is more mobile, eating and drinking better and even joining in with singing in the day room
Strange that a drug that was supposed to help her anxiety, actually made her worse and caused other issues. Dry day, a bit cooler than yesterday but still able to be outdoors working. After lunch I cleaned the front windows, got the back ones done the other day but had to leave the front as the sun was on them.
OH been busy putting down the deck boards. More work in the garden for me, this time trimming some of the bushes, a trip to the recycle centre is on the cards next week as I have 9 big tubs of garden waste to get rid of.

After a couple of really busy weeks at home, we made it down to North Devon yesterday. Really good run down the M5 for a change. We are using Ifracombe site for the first time, and its really lovely.

We walked from Countisbury down to Watersmeet today, but it was a long climb back.

Got home from our three week trip away today. We left Buxton this morning and cut across country to the A50. Merrily going along when a car pulls along side and passenger is pointing skywards. Seems like a problem with a roof light. I give him the thumbs up and pull into the next emergency stop layby. The smaller skylight had popped its lock somehow, maybe it wasn't lock properly in the first place? We secured it and had nice thoughts about the person who took the trouble to warn us. There are nice people around.

Same thing happened to us last year when travelling on the M6.
We also tried to warn someone about their open skylight. They must have misinterpreted our signs as we got quite a rude one back. Hope they said sorry when they eventually realised.😀

Glad to hear that your Mum is feeling so much better Tammygirl. Meds sometimes have a lot to answer for. Many years ago my Dad deteriorated so badly that he couldn't get out of bed without collapsing. I rang the surgery to ask for some assistance for my Mum as she couldn't get him into the bath (and my Dad wasn't going to let me see him without any clothes on!!). Luckily our lovely, at that time, family GP arrived and realised that something was seriously wrong and had him admitted to Papworth. They completely reorganised his meds and he was a different man after a few weeks.
It rained most of the day yesterday so it was food shopping and indoor jobs for us. The garden was pleased with the rain. Today has been a lovely day and our local 'man who can' arrived and gave the garden a good haircut and it looks so much better. He couldn't do anything with out Rambling Rector rose and he discovered a bird's nest with an egg in it so said he would come back next month. We have watched it carefully this afternoon and think it is a sparrows nest. Eldest grand-daughter came round this afternoon with her scan photo

Glad you have got booked into your preferred CL Freddie. Hope you have a good time.
You are in one of our very favourite areas Helen. We spent so many happy holidays there with our children when they were young (pre caravan days) We used to stay at a very small B&B/hotel near Berrynabour between Ilfracombe and Combe Martin. We met up with friends there every year and had such a good time. We used to go to Putsborough Beach whatever the weather
If you are in the area we can recommend visit to Parracombe church not far from Lynton and Lynmouth. Lovely old church. Have a good holiday.Glad you are enjoying your trip tda.

An even better day weather wise for us. Started on the cleaning of the inside of the van, but couldn't work up too much enthusiasm for it so packed up just after lunch.
TG, I too will be heading down to the recycling centre with a few boxes and bags of garden cuttings tomorrow. At least the back is looking much better than when we arrived home. Glad to hear that you got to see mum, and that she is much better now she's back on her old prescription.
Hope you have a good time at Ilfracombe. H&T. Are you on the CC's no-facility site? We do like it there, but never seem to come away without running into some road works whichever route we take.
David I think that when we lost our roof light it must have popped it's lock, Unfortunately no-one warned us if we had forgotten to close it.

TG, so glad things are better with your Mum. Some medications have the strangest effects. Like you, we sort of never questioned the meds Mum was on, but a visit to a routine clinic and a simple pulse check by a nurse led to a chat for us, and we realised Mum had been on some meds for decades. She is very different now in her ninth decade, so we got her fully checked out. Outcome is she is now on half the meds she used to be on! She’s also so slight and tiny that she was possibly on too high a dose of some things. We are quite proud of managing to get 10lbs in weight back on her (taken 18 months) and she is physically in great shape all bar a worn out knee. Getting her to admit that something is amiss is our hardest task, she is of the ‘ not going to let it bother me” generation! Our docs are good, but a ten minute review once a year wasn’t enough to keep on top of Mums changing needs, so we made sure she is getting more. Fingers crossed we have (most) of her genes!

We had a similar experience some years ago when a motorist signalled for us to drive into a filling station saying from his window that something was wrong. When we pulled in he told showed us that one of our outside lockers has pinged open. We were very grateful.

H&T, if you get back to Countisbury, the Blue Ball pub does good grub. It's my step-son's local.

We have decided to visit Sewerby Hall and Gardens today, get some use out of HHA membership. Been lovely, gardens are now at their best, bought some lovely and cheap plants to take home. Had a delicious lunch in the cafe, OH had a look around the house, I saved it for next time and opted for the little zoo. A very nice visit, quite dog friendly as only place they cannot go in, understandably, is the house and zoo. Section of cafe is dog friendly, but lots of outdoor seating. 🐾🐾🐾🐾😁

Another very warm dry day in the SW, great for anyone on holiday not so good when the garden needs some water. Doesn't look as though we've got much rain on the horizon for many days yet.
OH pleased to have the dry weather to finish repairing motorhome roof damage, seems to be going ok, fibreglass being smoothed off etc.
Sounds like a nice break TDA!

We also enjoyed Sewerby TDA. Visited it about this time last year. Also had a very nice meal and thought the little zoo very good. I think the house was officially opened by Amy Johnson back in the 30's and there are displays of memorabilia associated with here flights.
Brought the MH home for a wash and clean today. It's so much easier than the caravan, which was impossible to park up, so had to be done with dry wash on site. On the way back to the storage filled it up with Diesel at Sainsburys, ready for our next trip. 113.9p a litre. Wish it was that price every time but unfortunately just due to the voucher we had.

Glad all went well with no operations required OP. Good service from the NHS with tea and biscuits 😊

Bus is the best way to travel to any hospital, even better if you qualify for the pass 😃. No assumptions being made 😉. As parking seems to be a nightmare at any hospital in this country.
Such lovely service from the receptionist, doesn't attitude make a huge difference? Delighted to hear no operations needed.

Another warm day ,had some friends visit (retired site staff
), site still very busy, warden advised that most sites (except West country
)have had increased occupancy so far since EasterCromer on traveller alerts day car park height barriers being closed, this, site has been advised

Have been looking to do a tourfrom next April and already hitting pitch availability problems on some cc sites

Good to hear things went well Oneputt and you were well looked after! Our infrequent local bus does at least go past the hospital so people find it useful.
This week we have no appointments or other commitments, makes a change! Must get out and make the best of it.
