Our last night at Horn House Farm, Abbeytown before we move across to Slapestones at Penrith for our last 3 nights of this trip. I would definitely recommend this site for anyone wishing to explore the Cumbrian Solway coastal area. We visited another Nature Reserve today, Finglandrigg Wood, before parking by the coast road on the line of Hadrian's Wall, and walking a short part of it. We feel for those that are attempting the whole of the Wall Walk in this hot weather. We have talked to a few over the last couple of days who were nearing the end, and they all said how much they had enjoyed the experience.

It has been cloudy all day, but still warm, c 24C and rather clammy, but we now have low cloud and mist, and have had the odd spot of rain. Hopefully it will rain through the night and clear the air.

Ttda. If you want to see the cavern and go down safely then on May (not sure which one) and August B/H the 2 main local Potholing clubs organise a winch down to it. Obviously Moulesy would be excluded due to his portliness.😀

I chickened out of one of the Blue John caves years ago, a blast of warm air and the sound of a padlock being locked behind me made me ask to be let out! (I had been down before.) Good luck to all who want to be winched down, my friend from Settle used to go potholing but hearing her tales was enough for me.wink

Yes, I was aware but didn’t know when. Friends of ours were serious pot holers, and indeed cave divers😱, often doing cave rescues in their younger days. I must take a look and see if we can get organised to do it one day. I have been through all the Caverns round Castleton, including Speedwell, but a very long time ago. Very interesting.

Yes, South Lodge.  I think OH read your review of it where you mentioned the turning off the main road, thanks for the warning.

Simpson Hill Farm, just to the west of Haverfordwest, is a good CL with HS. Stayed there in 2016 when we had the caravan.

Glad everybody is enjoying their breaks away and good weather, a bit to hot here in the Lot  over 40C yesterday and last Wednesday but this morning a misty damp with very light rain but it will do some good for the garden.  OH just had the Landcruiser serviced and CT same as MOT and found he has a leaking shock they give you 2 months to sort it out  well he ordered them from UK and they arrived yesterday so Monday will be the best day as it is cooler to do them and then to CT station for another inspection of them and get the full CT sticker for another two years good job he has had 4 classic Range Rovers in the past and used to do all the work on them.

Off to a Lavender farm today as they have an open weekend and then off to a friends village for the local fete it is the oldie's night tonight with 50's music and there is food as well just hope it stays cool as not shade about there.

Enjoy your day folks sorry to hear about your speeding ticket HD and your car but hope you get good news re the viewing.

Lavender farm was interesting even a lot of the information in English, had a nice home made ice cream OH melon and I had Reine Claude which is our type of greengage plum very good even bought some Lavender products and they also do organic lamb products so a pack of lamb sausages now in the freezer awaiting a BBQ day, the farm is not as big as the Cotswold Lavender farm near Broadway club site but enough to see and take photos of the Lavender fields.

I like the Lavender Centre  in North Norfolk. They grow a huge variety, and I always bring a few plants home. I like White Lavender, and the varieties with ears, which I think are mainly French? Not keen on it as perfume, but great dried as a pomander/ pot pourri.

I was going to mention the Lavender Farm near Broadway as on a sunny day the scent from the fields is lovely and so are the lavender cakes in the café! But that ice cream sounds good too RedKite. smilesmile

Today I have been....sorting out a new dual fuel tariff, very boring, but I realised we were about to pay over the odds if we stayed with the same company.

    Stay cool RK.

Set off early this morning as Mrs WN managed to wake up at a reasonable time.smile Easy drive and home by mid morning. Caravan and Car emptied. Mrs. WN just putting last wash in and first 2 dried and waiting ironing.

Nipped out to get some food in. MiL seems to have done a grand job with the garden so we were well pleased with her. Might let her stay.

Moulesy, I am merely repeating your very own words. Who am I to disagree with you?sealed

"These days my rather more portly figure would make if difficult to get winched down, let alone manouver through some of those passages!"

Back home from the Clachan site at Killin. Nice site, we didn't pitch up at the top NH, will look at doing so next time we go though.

We were down the bottom pitch 15, road noise wasn't bad and didn't cause an issue. The site was pretty busy as was Maragowan. Shame the nice weather didn't last though, by teatime we had a thunderstorm rumbling round for a couple of hours.  Thankfully not heavy rain just the usual normal stuff which stopped before bed time.

This morning we got a bit more on and off. The road outside the site isn't really advisable for walking or cycling as you said. There was though groups of 'serious' cyclists riding past. Its a lovely area and one that we've not been to for a long time. We did the drive from us to Perth, then through Crieff, Comrie and along Lochearnhead, OH prefers that to going via Aberfeldy, the A9 just north of us is under road widening so vrry long holdups.

Mixed weather at home windy and cloudy, not sure how the party next door went but the marquee was down when we got home and everything cleared away.

We have done the Norfolk Lavender farm a few years ago they are all different, OH's family all from Norfolk.

Yes we will stay cool Wherenext and even the thrushes are out early in this heat on our field, looks like it will be a bit cooler this week and the following week we have got storms and cooler again only high 20's much better.

Glad you enjoyed your 1 night break at Killin  TG we went past there many years ago possibly over 35 years gosh time flies by, we have the local village fete here in 3 weeks and it is all weekend very loud music and we are out of the village too if it had been earlier say June we might have gone away for the weekend to a local site not far from here ear defenders at the ready ha ha.

Why does everything have to be sooooooo loud, I really fear for their hearing in years to come. We get (occasionally ) cars going through the village with music blaring, if you can call it music, all you can hear is the bass boom booming yell

Glad you are to get lower temps soon.

Good day today at the Moffat classic car show lots of lovely old cars. Was sunny at the beginning but by early afternoon it started pouring and was raining on and off for the rest of the afternoon still a good day all the same. When we got back from the show we took a drive to what is known as The Devils Beeftub a lovely stretch of road that takes you high up in to the hills above Moffat. We ended up doing a circular route to Biggar and then joined the motorway to come back down to Moffat. It’s been pouring here again some of the people camping in tents on the site have packed up and left a night early. We ended up just getting a take-away tonight from the local Chinese tonight very nice.

I've been close to cars in a traffic queue and can hear it even though both they and I have windows closed. I wonder how it must sound inside. It must impair one's judgement at those sort of levels.
