Well, today (or rather yesterday!!?!) has been a lovely day. After our U3A choir concert, we had a Hog Roast in the vicarage garden. I thought I was sitting in the shade, but several folk tonight were quick to point out that the sun seems to have caught me head. Nor it feels a little sore....
Hope everyone else has had a good day. It appears we are in for a good few days of weather. I think I need to buy a hat!!!

Most of yesterday we had a power cut (we've had two letters recently but last time it didn't happen, this time we were "off" for seven hours!!)
Everywhere it was strangely silent except for the engineers shouting instructions to each other from mid-air.
The work was to prevent future power cuts. ( I hope they've got it right this time.)
We enjoyed our garden talk and left our puppy sitter with a wind up radio and the gas kettle...
(He didn't mind, he had a book and sat outside in the garden.)

Cloudy start to the day but I think (hope) it will clear soon.
I didn't wake up at all last night most unusual for me, I must have finally tired myself out
We are off to our grand daughters school today, won't go until about 12.30 as the parade starts at 14.00. Our son DIL and grandson drove up overnight from Tidworth and will drive back down again tonight. They would normally have a few days here but this year its Armed Forces day tomorrow where they live and he has to be there for that.
We remember doing similar when our boys were at the school, I don't envy them in the slightest its a long drive and a long day, thankfully they are both good drivers and take turns.
We've decided to go away in the caravan for Saturday night, our next door neighbours are having a party in the afternoon for their 3 year old daughter's birthday, it will then roll on into the evening and night time. Last time it went on into the wee hours, due to the layout of the gardens theirs doglegs round ours so we get all the noise. Rather than listen to it we thought we would have a break and a peaceful night away. We are going to the Clachan at Killin about an hour from us but we've never stayed at the site so thought why not.
Enough now as I have to go and cut OH's hair, can't have him scruffy today of all days

TG. Hope you enjoy being with the family and seeing your granddaughter. Killin sounds like a good idea, nice place to visit, we've never tried the camp site, will be interested to hear what you think.
Do hope your Mum's care home gets back to normal soon, a lot of work for the staff.
Very hot here but still a nice breeze. Have been in the Tropic of Dorset this morning.

Another lovely if a bit breezy day today. Settled, appropriately, on a local walk which was delightful. Lots of young Wheatears about as well as Skylarks, which seem to have accompanied us throughout this tour. Last day tomorrow. Been a very enjoyable trip.
Killin site is nice. Easy walk into the small town. Good idea TG. We were thinking of going home tomorrow but it's the Carnival so streets will be cut off and noise seems to have replaced a more sedate showing of local produce, whether food or craft. Progress it isn't.

Goldie, a little feedback about the Heaves Farm event. My friend is deputy head at a school on the north Lancs/Cumbria border. The whole school attend this event and she says how much the children get from it. Many are from farming families but all were enthusiastic and excited about their day! Well done to all who took part in this really worthwhile event.

Lovely night here at Moffat we arrived on site early afternoon and have managed to get a nice pitch. Site very busy as it is the classic car show this weekend (the reason we are here) lots of lovely old cars around the site and the town. I have been a walk to the town and had a nice afternoon pint in one of the pubs. Now back at site lovely and sunny burgers sizzling away on the Cadac cold beer in hand. Hope everyone else has a nice weekend whatever you are doing.

We left there this morning. Last night was hot.

Back home again from the parade, it was a lovely day sunny but with a nice breeze blowing across the playing fields (parade ground) just right for the all taking part. The pipes and drums were on form as were the highland dancers. The pupils were smart as always
very proud parents/grandparents.
brue the gardens look lovely. Will report back about Killin, hope the midgies are not a problem.
francis enjoy your classic cars
AD, sorry you had a longer than anticipated day, we had a few diversions to, one of them took us miles out of the way, think we must have missed a sign somewhere

Very hot today here in the Lakes, tonight is the last of our 3 nights here. Visited Windermere and Kendal, both very busy.
The CCC site is pretty open, unlike the CAMC site (which we did not like), so we have been exercising the air con a bit. Lovely facilities here, huge family/disabled room which was actually warm, unlike the ones on our 2 other sites so far, which were pretty chilly.
Our next 3 nights are on a CL with serviced pitches, then we go on to another CCC site in Wales.

Sounds like folks are getting some nice weather at last. Been nice here today as well. Took Mum to see her best friend today, a mere 93 year old. Nice afternoon, but rather poignant. Mum can still get out and about easily with our help, but her friend isn’t so lucky. But we have made plans to see if we can get her out in a wheelchair next time we go. I don’t think she has even been taken around the lovely village she now lives in. Well cared for in other ways, but a tad isolated.
We get our new car tomorrow, looking forward to that.

We've too have had fine weather, and although the temp in the car was showing 26 C as we drove along, with the breeze off the Solway it didn't feel too hot. Plenty of coastal walking for us over the last couple of days, but nothing too strenuous as Flyte doesn't like the very hot weather. Watched a mother Ringed Plover shepherding a pair of chicks away up the shingle as we came along.
TG as you are going to the Clachan site at Killin it is advisable to drive down into the village and park by the Village Hall or behind the church on the old railway station. The site is over a mile out of the town and the road has no pavement to walk on. If you get a chance the best pitches we found were up at the top at the back of the site.
Bet you are excited about the new car. Hope it lives up to expectations, tda.

Glad you had a good day at your grand-daughter's parade Tammygirl. You must have been very proud. I don't envy your son and DIL's journey home though. I hope your Mum manages to avoid the D&V outbreak at her home.
Hope you are enjoying your time with your son's whippet brue. From what I know about family and friend's whippets and whippet crosses they seem to vary between spells of running at great speed and then lying on the sofa with their legs in the air relaxing! Our son and his family are arriving at ours in a few weeks with their whippet cross which should be good fun.
I hope the new meds are doing the trick for your dog's eyes tda. It's always a worry when they are not well.
Take care of your head DSB. Lots of sunscreen and a hat in the next few days.
We had a great day on Sunday for OH's birthday. All his favourite places - a look round the now working Horsey Wind pump including the climb to the top for OH, then a wildlife boat trip when we saw some real treats including hearing and seeing a skylark (both ascending and then descending) and then a walk to the local pub in the evening for a meal. We then moved from the Norfolk Broads site to Cromer on Tuesday. We haven't seen much sun until today but have been out and about. We took the bus to Sheringham on Wednesday to visit the market and also saw the sink hole in the main street which is proving to be something of a tourist attraction - they are even selling 'sink hole' T-shirts!! Yesterday we had a potter round Cromer. We had a coffee in the Jetty Café which used to be the Jetty Coffee Bar many years ago where I spent many a happy hour with my best friend when in our teens. We then visited Cromer church as they have peregrine falcons nesting on the roof so have put in a camera with a video link in the church. We had a wander down the pier and booked our tickets for the End of Pier Show last night. Wonderful evening - It gets better every year. The sun finally came out today and we spent a lovely bright and breezy day in Wells Next The Sea and had lunch on an old Dutch barge moored on the quay. Tomorrow is forecast to be very hot.
I don't envy those in France at the moment. We were there during the heatwave of 2003 It's an experience I wouldn't want to repeat. I hope everyone stays safe and well.

Oh, I see! We are at the CCC site just north of Kendal on the A6.
Very pleasant and no road noise at all, busy here, was fully booked the day we arrived (Wednesday). All very quiet campers, and remarkably few dogs.
Just a short stopover to break the journey south from the CAMC site at Garlieston to our CL just beyond Chester, but instead of just stopping one night we decided on 3 nights as we have not been into Kendal before, plus OH wanted to visit the big Lakeland store beside Booths in Windermere. Credit card took a bit of a hit!
Usually we stay at CAMC Meathop Fell, but we decided it was getting a bit too expensive these days, plus this site is closer to Windermere

Price at Meathop tonight would be just over £25 for the 2 of us, here we are paying just under £21.
Last time we were down in the Cardigan area of Wales we stayed at CAMC Shawsmead, it would be £21 per night, the CCC site will be £16.52, so all good savings, and a slightly different area to see.
Even better of course on a CL, our next one will be £15pn, the other 2 further south will be £10 and £13, and our last CCC site averages £19.28 as we have one peak season night included.

All the ones we have tried have been absolutely fine, some more modern than others of course.
The ones we have tried are Moffat, Dunbar, Scone, Craigellachie on Speyside ( it was the least modern), Dingwall, Salisbury, St Neots, Derwentwater, Cambridge, and many years back Poolewe.
Pitches are generally fine but can be smaller than CAMC ones, with the car going on the grass in some places, service points may be slightly fewer in number, and refuse is generally only near reception on the smaller sites.
The great advantage is that you can book a hard standing, the drawback is that you pay a deposit of at least £25.
Having great facilities in our van, we are not really that fussed over site facilities, it was absolutely freezing at Craigellachie so we did not venture out to the showers!
We go first for Location, see what is in the area and look at both CLs and main sites of both clubs, then put price and value for money into the decision process.
We considered the St David’s one but decided on a CL with hardstandings instead as it was closer to Tenby and more central for several places.
The age discount and the shorter peak periods makes the CCC sites less expensive for us. We also take advantage of the fact that school holidays north and south of the border are a bit different and go to England when the Scottish schools are on holiday.

I think that, other than when car as been across the front, all hardstand pitches that I can recall have been car on grass
