Helmsley is a Mecca every Sunday for motorbikes, I suspect the run up Sutton Bank is part of the fun. Usually lots of big classic bikes, Goldwings and Harley’s. Throbbers as opposed to high pitched screamers.

Had a great afternoon in garden today, plenty of bark chippings down. A lot less lawn to mow. Nice and warm as well, think the roses are starting to dry out, poor things.

Just mulling over a short five night tour. Want to see Hidcote, Snowshill Manor, Coughton Court, plus a bit of cycling. Won’t be using any Club Sites though. Found one or two nice CLs. We won’t need hook up every night, so gives us more CLs to choose from.

Arrived at Garlieston at exactly 12, having left Ayr at 09.45, only a light shower en route and though a little windy in the early afternoon, the rest of the day was warm and sunny.  Dinner was cooked and eaten outside, and there was a lovely sunset, still light here well after 10pm.

Site is full, possibly more MHs than caravans.

Phone signal is almost non-existent, so no WiFi other that the Club stuff, which was apparently overwhelmed by the number of people trying to connect in the early evening, as I only managed to connect after 11pm.

Not been up to much this week,  work gets in the way frown but have enjoyed reading about everyone's trips, although have to admit to being slightly envious.

OH did finish the facias on the gable end this week, we now just have to replace some of the car port roof, due to now having a hole!! surprisedlaughing

Off to a local farmer's market this morning, no plans after that, but the sun is shining so may spend some time in the garden.

Have a great weekend everyone .

Edit. Belated Happy Birthday Wherenext, hope you had a lovely day.πŸŽ‚

WN, if you are still in the Helmsley area, can recommend a look at Byland Abbey, and then onto Coxwold. Byland has a nice eaterie, and it’s a lovely drive if you go via Wass Bank. Coxwold has a very interesting church, and Shandy Hall, of Tristram Shandy fame. Some lovely walks as well. Hope the weather is same as here for you, glorious today.

Possibly more gardening for me, although my aches are telling me to lighten up, and sit and enjoy it rather than getting stuck in again. OH has a ride out on his new favourite toy planned.

Not doing anything really worth doing other than sneezing, sniffling and taking regular doses of paracetamol and / or ibuprofen 'cos I've got one of those 'orrid summer colds with sore throat. At least my neighbours are having a quiet day as a result too sealed

    Please enjoy yourselves nicely wink

Lovely day here on the Suffolk coast, lots of sandcastles built, paddling in a chilly sea, playing on the playground, being rescued by Paw Patrol Operatives.  Managed to get a reasonable picture of a Skylark that landed a couple of yards from me.

Hope you feel better soon ABM. I've been sneezing due to a continuous dose of fluffy willow pollen floating on the breeze around our van. It must be a bit late up here but it's got into my eyes and clothing, OH the same tonight! Everywhere busy due to forest concerts, Paul Weller tonight. I think we're out of hearing distance but I expect it will be good.

Glastonbury when we get home. Son arriving with dog on Monday, the puppy was attacked by two Alsatian dogs last week so I'm hoping he will have got over the worst when he arrives. We have missed our old terrier on this trip, forty years of dog ownership and it seems a bit quiet!

Thanks ttda for suggestion but we headed the other way as Mrs WN wanted to draw the Marmion Tower at West Tanfield if at all possible, which it was. I toddled off into the country for 90 minutes to give her some space. She sat on a bench in the adjacent churchyard, so peaceful.

Thanks for wishes Helen. Had a smashing day.

I also get the willow pollen snuffles Brue. If it's free I'll have it.

Wrap up Brian (in the nicest sense of course).smile

Very warm and sunny here again today.  We headed south to Isle of Whithorn to take in the views to Isle of Man and Cumbria, then round and up through Port William to Stranraer where we bought lunch and filled fuel before heading to Portpatrick.

Quite busy there but plenty of parking so we walked the length of the seafront while eating very good Galloway soft ices. Could just see Ireland in the distance as it was a bit hazy.

Drove home via all the little back roads, fortunately not much traffic.

The campsite had emptied out quite a bit this morning but has now filled up again, only a few empty pitches.

Will probably head east tomorrow to Threave Gardens and possibly Broughton House, both NTS.

Forecast is for heavy rain on Monday.

Fair enough David. I must admit though that I have only looked at the story section a couple of times. It does seem a little isolated?

Anyway, turned up at Goatfell Farm CL yesterday for a couple of nights, but had to cancel the second night (tonight) because of the possibility of very bad driving conditions tomorrow. A real shame as I really liked it there. Not sure when I’ll be able to get away again as I had to drop the van back to the dealer to get a few niggles sorted, hopefully it won’t take long.

Sorry to hear about your summer cold ABM. I always think they are worse than winter colds. Wishing you better soon.

So sorry to hear that your son's pup has been attacked brue. I hope he has recovered. I am sure you will enjoy his company. I do feel for you after the loss of your terrier. They leave such a big hole. We took the walk across the fields from Ludham Bridge to the remains of St Benets Abbey as recommended by you last year. Such an interesting little site. Amazing to think it was so huge and important 900 years ago. The walk must have been quite an effort with your dog buggy!

We went to How Hill today and had a wildlife trip on their 'Electric Eel'. So interesting to go up the smaller waterways of The Broads. Saw lots of dragonflies and also water lillies which is a good sign of the health of the water..We were glad of the cooling breeze on the water as it has been very warm today.

Bride almost 40 minutes late for the wedding today.  For one brief moment I thought I might have to get some music out rather than relying on my memory and improvisation powers!!!..... πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€  it's a good job there wasn't another wedding following on.....  I think the groom was getting a bit worried...

Mind you, yesterday was interesting.  It's not often we have Friday weddings, but they decided they would produce some recorded music before the wedding march.  I have to say I almost swallowed my mint when I heard, 'I'm too sexy for my shirt'.....  laughinglaughinglaughinglaughing

Give us a wave as you pass Cardoness, Kjell. We'll be heading towards Newton Stewart tomorrow so could well pass you on the road. We intend to visit the Chambered Cairns at Kirkdale and the castle at Carsluith, and whatever else take our fancy.

Today it was Cardoness Castle, Drundrennen Abbey, a walk on St Mary's Isle, which isn't an island, and McLelland Castle at Kirkcudbright, before ice cream for us too on the green by the parish church. Managed a couple of hours this evening, after dinner, sat out in the sun with my shirt off.... that's the sort of day it's been, at last.

Hope that you are soon feeling better ABM. Summer colds always seem so hard to shift.

Sorry to hear about the attack on your son's puppy, brue, and hope that it has no lasting effects. Flyte has been set upon a couple of time on this trip, and he's quite timid at the best of times, especially for a Springer.

Spent yesterday morning swapping the waste water outlet to smooth bore pipe. Unding the tank end I discovered the spigot had a reduced bore just on the last 10mm or so. The walls were fairly thick so it made no sense to restrict flow so I've reamed it out so that the bore is the same all the way through. That and a larger bore tap that I fitted before our Germany trip should ensure that it doesn't now take half the holiday to drain the waste.

Decided to make use of the plentiful hot water on site by doing some washing. Then dismantled the awning and finally decided to have a walk from site along the river and back in a loop. Passed a pleasant couple of hours. Clothes dry when we got back.πŸ‘

Had some very tasty Vegetarian Pakoras with a salad for tea. If you are near a Booths then I can recommend them especially with some mango chutney.

Hope Tammy's ok and that her mum hasn't gotten worse. Haven't heard from her for a while.

Also hope things are ok with Robsail if he's looking in.

    Where are you Wherenext?

Yes a while since Tammygirl posted and ages since I've read anything from Robsail.

Glorious day here yesterday, warm and humid with a breeze today, weird. Done nothing of note, trying not to put head down, increasing the pressure in the eye, is tough! Otherwise all going well. Apart from OH rehab class we have NO medical appointments this week. Is life really returning to some sort of normality???

Last night at Thirsk racecourse site. Off to a CL near Settle tomorrow. Should be interesting as there seems to be a lot of "weather" due. We know several CLs en route so have a plan B.

Glad things slowly getting back to "normal"

Of course you are Wherenext, how could I forget?! We've had a couple of lovely holidays there but not in the motorhome. I like the town a lot, is the sweet shop still there? We often stopped on the way up or down to uni with son πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. Despite promising ourselves another visit its 10 years since son left uni which means holidays were even longer ago 😱😱

We love Thirks as well. The sweetshop is still there, as are two very nice wool/ craft shops. Not stayed on Racecourse, but we did have a log cabin one Christmas at Carlton Miniott.

Good to here the appointments are dropping off a bit Bakers, we were relieved to get back to some normality in similar circumstances.

I’ve had another lovely long day in garden, until rain stopped play at 7pm, at least it arrived much later than predicted. Finally feel as if I am getting topside of things at last. Hopefully work done will make it easier to keep nice now.

Not looking forward to tomorrow. Pooch has an appointment with a specialist eye vet, and it’s for 5.30pm in the middle of Sheffield. Traffic likely to be horrendous, so I think the plan is to get close and just chill out well in advance of the evening commute. Fingers crossed vet can sort him out, poor little lad is suffering with his eyes.

Yes Bakers the Sweetie shop is still there.laughing Mrs WN was tempted in for some Uncle Joes Mint Balls.

The town is trying its best but like a lot of places in the last 10 years or so you can see a few more empty retail premises. But it's been animated the times we've gone into it and they're building a lot houses close by so this may bolster it. The original Ritz cinema is still going, being run by volunteers and the market was well attended. We like the town, it's the right size for us.

Good luck with the vet appointment tomorrow takethedogalong. Reckon you'd be best to get yourselves there and chill until appointment time - not pleasant tangling with traffic and rush traffic even worse!

Yes it's a relief, as you know, to have less appointments - however there's a lot of empty hours to fill when you're not used to it πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Wherenext it's good to know Thirsk is doing OK might get ourselves back there sooner rather than later. Safe onward travel.

If you intend to stay at the racecourse site then a) check for race days as you'll have to move your outfit and b) park nearer to the reception than the entrance as it will be a bit quieter.
