Arrived home at lunchtime after our weekend in the Peaks, journey took a bit longer as hold ups on the M42
We had mixed weather sunshine and some heavy showers but enjoyed the break.
Blimey , You lot have been busy, only been away a couple of days, and so much has been happening
so much to catch up on.

Hope you have a lovely holiday Millie, safe journey tomorrow.

Thanks Helen. Glad you enjoyed your trip to the Peak Distrct despite the mixed weather. It seems as though that is going to be the story of our 'summer' this year 😫.

Hopefully summer will arrive eventually David. I seem to remember that summer was very late in 1976 and then looked what happened!! I just hope we get some summer on our forthcoming trip to Norfolk. 😎

It has to stop raining soon Millie..... actually, it's not been too bad here today. However, last week when we were at Poolsbrook it rained cats and dogs for three days. Didn't even get the Cadac out of the car!! The lasttime we went to Poolsbrook was the week of the Beast from the East and we got snowed in! One of these days we'll go there and get good weather.
Enjoy Norfolk and fingers crossed for the weather,
David

Due to WiFi problems, I haven’t been been able to post, until now. Just to report, had a nice few days at Troutbeck Head, although lots of rain. Managed a nice circular walk out of Elterwater (5 or so miles), the highlight being the view of the Langdales en route. Hard to imagine a more beautiful place...

Had an ‘interesting ‘ day out in Polperro, yesterday. Ros wanted to go back and see how it had changed since she was last there about 50 years ago.
Well - what can I say - £7 to park the car, village full of ‘tat’ shops and - wait for it - lunch comprising of two very ordinary crab sandwiches, a tea and a coffee - all for the princely sum of £27.95!😧
Well, at least the sun was shining 😀

Some tourist hot spots are seriously ripping off visitors R&R, not just Cornwall. It’s a very lovely little place Polperro, but a magnet for visitors.
Not sure how far you are travelling from Site, but if you get a nice day, and want a very dog friendly, absolutely stunning beach, head towards Hayle, and look up Porth Kidney Sands. You park up in Lelant near the church, and then either walk through golf course and up the river side onto beach, or follow footpath over the dunes. This is St Ives Bay, possibly on a sunny day nowhere else in UK as beautiful. Beach won’t be busy, it never is. But check the tides, you want it out if you can. Hayle has some nice eateries, of all kinds. Church, St Unys is worth a peek, has been dug out of sand a few times. Another dog friendly beach, this time on Lizard, is down at Gunwalloe Cove. Two beaches, one ok for dogs, another fabulous little church. Great walks as well. We have seen loads of seals and Basking Sharks round here.😁
Edit parking is free by Lelant Church, NT carpark at Gunwalloe.

R&R, look for the places the locals visit and you’ll fare better.
Don't forget the pasties from Philps if you visit Hayle.

Hampsons the butchers in Hayle for pasties any day, far better than the dry mass produced philps factory (IMHO)
If you visit St.Ives be sure to go in the Pilchard Press pub.

Thank you TTDA, TW & JK - looks like Hayle is definitely on the list of places to visit. Wasn’t surprised about being ripped off in Polperro but Ros really wanted to go back! It’s no different to what has happened in Whitby when I look back to when I went there as a child.
I would also like to say thanks for the excellent advice re routes to Truro as per my post in another section a couple of weeks ago. The trip down the very quiet A30 was delightful 😀

Disaster narrowly avoided today!
Decided to walk from Salcombe Regis church along the coast path and then inland to visit the donkey sanctuary before moving on to the brilliant Masons Arms in Branscombe for lunch.
It's a walk we've done many times before with stunning views along the coastline from Dunscombe cliffs. All went well until we got back to the church car park when, spotting an identical car to ours, but parked in a different spot I jokingly said to Mrs M "oh look, someone's moved the car for us"! But hang on, where is ours? That's ours! I must not have applied the handbrake fully and at some stage it had rolled backwards across the car park and come to rest at a tree and the information board. Fortunately only a couple of bits of cosmetic damage and it could have been much worse if I'd reversed in and it had rolled forward. Also, as Mrs M was very quick to point out, it would undoubtedly have been much worse if she'd parked it!

The rain has set in now; we've been lucky so far and managed to stay out most of the days this week. So it's an afternoon in being entertained by the antics of the birds on the feeder. And I've never seen so many - all the usual suspects plus a beautiful pair of siskins (if I'm correct - very similar to greenfinches but with black heads). I've been filling the feeder morning and afternoon and it quickly gets emptied again. Did have to shoo off a grey squirrel this morning rooting around for seeds on the floor, although if didn't appear to put the birds off at all.

Ooh you were lucky Moulesy! Hope you're enjoying Devon.
Words about Cornwall, I've never found Hayle worth a visit (used to live near the now sadly run down Penzance.
) But I'd recommend a drive along the Helford river, see the gardens there and also the Seal Sanctuary at Gweek. The marine drive in Falmouth is worth seeing as it goes around Pendennis Castle and has views of the docks and out to sea.
Busy in Cumbria but escaped the crowds via the little steam train from Ravenglass and walked to Dalegarth Falls.

I always park with car in gear. I've seen cars parked on a hill several times and the handbrake must have been on but has let go.

M, they definitely sound like Siskins. I now know the M stands for "Molehusband".
A lovely warm day with a gentle southerly breeze so we walked into Bridlington from the CL. It's not my favourite place the nearer to the harbour you get so we stopped before then for an ice cream and walked back to Sewerby Hall, which was very disappointing. If I'd paid to go in the gardens I would have asked for my money back.
Back at the carvan just in time for grass cutting. Why do we always seem "just in time for grass cutting"?

There are a few nice independent shops in Hayle, Mr Bs ice cream parlour and of course Philips pasties. But that beach, Porth Kidney, is stunning. If the tide is right, you can actually walk right into St Ives, or use the footpath that goes through the dunes. The King George Walk alongside Copperhouse Pool is lovely, and a great place to bird watch. Penzance is indeed a bit of a mixed bag, but has some nice shops.
Interesting about Sewerby Hall WN. We have never been and it was on our list. Bridlington in places is very depressing, we never go into town, much prefer Scarborough.

M- A similar thing happened to us last year up at Stonehaven club site. I reversed the caravan on to the pitch (slightly up hill) and unhitched the caravan when suddenly the car started rolling towards the service point at the bottom of the hill. Luckily I managed to jump in the car and apply the brake just in time. Now every time we un hitch the van I double check that the parking brake is on.

Currently staying at Cliff Farm, a few miles from Pickering. Good weather today, a bit rare lately. Visited Filey and Bridlington. Not too keen on Bridlington, but Filey was quite nice, quite a relaxed atmosphere. Not sure what we’re doing tomorrow as weather isn’t looking good. On Thursday the plan is to visit Whitby, and try out the renowned fish n chips sold at the Magpie Cafe. We’ll also be traveling there and back on the train, North York Moors Railway. Unfortunately, no steam service 🙁

I wouldn't take my comments as a "never" visit one, ttda. They are obviously mid planting but over 75% of the beds had nothing in them. They do describe themselves as an all season garden but there was virtually nothing to see. In mid June it was a dissapointment, saved only by the fact that we had to walk past it to get home so being HHA members decided to break the journey.

We always go to The Quayside for our F&C. Just couple of doors away if the queue at the Magpie is too big. Never been disappointed. Mind you they do make a point of serving Gluten Free ones which I need. Always a fair number of people in there.
We were in Brid today. Pity I didn't know you were there. It's a nice walk in from our CL but we stop before we get to the "Amusement" tat.
