Government health warning, don't read this if you're at all nervous of drills. Well I can't say I enjoyed the root canal treatment at the dentist, drilling through a crown was not my idea of fun and the dental nurse hadn't turned up to assist procedures.  The dentist did well on his own and I've got more antibiotic supplies in case of trouble on holiday. A quick dash round to find an open pharmacy.  Part 2 appointment when I return. frown

Do hope you've all had a better day. laughinglaughing

Happy Birthday, David - have a pint on me but keep the glass upright! wink

Brue - I don't envy you one little bit, a trip to the dentist is one of my worst nightmares, but fortunately I've developed a "high gag reflex" which means that she is just as keen as me to get things over and done with quickly! laughing

We've had another lovely day up here. We drove to Burton Agnes and did a 3 villages walk, about 7 miles in all, then visited Burton Agnes Hall which was surprisingly quiet for a weekend in May. A very impressive property.

The walled garden is a bit between seasons at the moment, but still some very attractive little corners.

And the woodland walk has a sculpture trail with some very impressive uses for broken tree trunks.

Cheers David, would love to just drive down to the sun. Mum not doing to well just now so will hang around for a bit longer to see if these new antibiotics do the trick, at 92 it takes her a bit longer to get better.

The forecast for the next week seems to be good so we don't mind. We are finding places to visit that we've not been to before so all good. Went into Cahors again today to have a look at the old town and the ponts, really nice town. Tomorrow we are going to Saint-Cirq-Lapopie.

We got company today on site, 4 new vans turned up, 2 caravans and 2 MH's one of the MH's has made a right mess of the soft grass yell no excuse as the office tell you about it and you can see were someone else left tracks.  The grass was cut yesterday and the site was looking very nice with lovely flowering trees and picnic benches scattered around, lots of pride from the owners, will use this site again if coming this way.

Hope those away are having a good time.

Brue, you will be glad when stage 2 is over, have a good trip.

    Happy birthday DSB.

Having had the same last year Brue I do empathise. Ouch. What annoyed me was going through all of that only to have the r***y thing extracted anyway. Hope you don't suffer the same fate.

We didn't get to Burton Agnes last time, M, as they were holding their Jazz festival. Luckily this time we will as the festival is later. Looks lovely.

Thanks one and all for the commiserations, I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happens to me WN.

Hope TammyG's Mum will be ok, sensible not to goo too far just now and it sounds nice where you are.

Hope that the dental treatment has done the trick, brue, and you don't suffer any pain while you're away.

Hope that your mum responds well to the new antibiotics and that you can continue your trip without the worry, TG.

Happy birthday David, have an enjoyable day.

Glad to hear that the weather's been kind for your trip to Burton Agnes. Nice to see the sculptures. You should try and get up to Carrbridge, near Aviemore, where there's a wood sculpture artist and most of the houses have examples of his work. There's even a trail leaflet for them.

Tammy, if you fancy a change of scenery but don't want to travel any further south then the site at Villefranche-sur-Rouergue is a nice site with a 10 minute walk into a pleasant town alongside the river. You could just visit but make it market day. Hope your mum improves.

Been a nice few days here, solar panels soaking up the sun.

Mainly down at DD's house doing things......new socket for charging  Dyson installed, pictures hung etc, etc........lots of little things done.

Callum is racing around now, and has got  used to his shoes.

He was out on the terrace playing with his sand and water table, so had to be stripped down to his nappy before being allowed in the house again!!

We just had a steak for dinner, not something we have often, it was delicious, accompanied by Béarnaise sauce, chips and broccoli. And a bottle of fruit wine, also delicious.

Happy belated birthday David.  Hope you had a good day.

Sorry to hear that your Mum isn't too well Tammygirl.  It is always a worry when away from home.  I remember having to make a quick dash home from SW France for FIL some years ago.  I hope the antibiotics do the trick.

You have my deepest sympathies brue.  Root canal work is really horrid.  I hope things have settled down and that you have a good trip to Devon.  Whereabouts are you heading for?

We have been woken by the cuckoo the past 2 mornings. Such a lovely sound to wake up to.  He was also fairly vocal yesterday teatime.  OH thinks he spotted him when out and about this morning.  I spoke too soon about the sunshine.  Yesterday rained on and off all day so we changed our plans and had a wander round St. Ives instead.  Son and family came over in the evening.  Sadly it wasn't BBQ weather so we all went to eat at the local pub who were very good about accommodating us at short notice so we all had a great evening.  Wall to wall sunshine this morning although still a bit chilly.

Thanks Millie. Sadly we no longer have a local cuckoo and the only time we hear one is on our rspb bird clock, at 2pm every day and we also get woken at 2am by the repeat call if there is a light on in the kitchen! wink

It's very warm here, up to 18C today. We're off to the South Hams for our trip, hoping our old terrier will cope otherwise we'll come home. What with old teeth and an old terrier things have slowed down at present, visiting terrier went home yesterday.

Thank you all for the good wishes for Mum, it is a worry when away but big sister is only 5 minutes away from the care home so is keeping a good eye on her. Hopefully the new antibiotics will take effect today and she will start to feel better, shes's tired so they are encouraging her to stay in bed and rest. Not something she is used to doing so good luck to them if they manage to keep her there laughing

The sun has come out today and I don't think we are to have any rain, took advantage of that and did a hand wash this morning of a few bits and pieces. Going out this afternoon to Saint-cirq-Lapopie.

Thanks WN and Redkite for the suggestion of Villefranche-de-Rouergue, think we are heading towards Albi tomorrow for a few days,  have looked out a site just before it which looks nice and gets good reviews.

Redkite we are on a site at St-Pierre-Lafeuille called Quercy Vacances.

Have fun everyone and stay safe on the roads.

Oh boy, was I in trouble this morning! We'd decided to drive up to a village called Muston and walk along the Wolds Way LDF, then swing round back into Filey.

We always take 2 walks with us just in case we change our mind or find we've got extra time on our hands. I print the off the internet and take them in one of those clear plastic A4 folders. We take whichever walk we're doing and leave the other one in the car.

So, off we go,  and all's good, following the clearly marked Wolds Way signposts. We have to walk for about a mile and the instructions (now on the second side of A4) tell us to look out for a farmhouse and cottage and follow the path round it. We walk and walk and there's no sign of said farmhouse but you know how it is when you get into that "we'll just get to the top of this Hill and have a look round" frame of mind? So this is what we did and - eventually - hooray, there's a farmhouse! But wait a minute - there's a road in front of us, that shouldn't be there, and shouldn't we be on the other side of the farmhouse? Fortunately I had an OS map and my little GPS wizard so have a look where we are and realise we'd missed an obvious turning - at least we hadn't actually missed it, we'd seen it but it didn't fit in with the directions. So we set off back to the junction when I had one of those brilliant mental breakthroughs - hang on, I didn't leave the second walk in the car did I? It's still in the folder and that farmhouse we'd been looking for was on that walk, not the one we were actually doing! embarassed

How we laughed! Luckily for me Mrs M wasn't very annoyed, though I suspect I'm going to be reminded of this for some time to come! As Eric Morecambe might have said, "I'm giving you all the right directions, but not necessarily in the right order  "! laughing

And, by the way, we'd forgotten what a nice place Filey is compared to some of its brasher neighbours up and down the coast.

M, did it really matter? The sun presumably was shining, you weren't due back at work any time soon and you were taking exercise. Relax. (This is the mantra I always use with Mrs WN and, nope, it never works with her either.smile)

Had a walk first thing as I bounced out of bed. Problem was we wandered into the route of the local Triathlon event and our quiet back road wasn't quite so quiet, so we too, had a diversion but this time Mrs WN didn't mind. Back home for coffee then we got stuck into the gardening. How come I can walk for miles without an ache but give me a couple of hours gardening and I turn into a 90 year old with aches and pains everywhere?undecided

What a lovely day to be away in the caravan or motorhome. Enjoy your trips folks.

Quite understand your feelings wrt aches, pains etc arising from gardening, WN.  Just stretching to reach the far side of a bush or six to get the secateurs working has reminded me of a) my advancing years and b) the efficiency of Ibuprofen and aspirin etc  yellsurprised

Glad you enjoyed BA Hall M, it’s very impressive. We are into day three of our short break, and the weather is now glorious. Ride across Moors today, stopped off for a picnic, OH has just taken off on his bike into Dalby Forest, while the female contingent and the lone canine take a break. Perfect little set up here, Mum and Sis in a gorgeous little self catering set up, while we are a few metres away on CL. We have guests for evening meals, they are charmed by MH!

Hope your Mum picks up TG, and the Mrs ADs foot is healing AD. Best wishes to others not so well, and I hope others away are sharing the weather we have here. I am shuddering at the thoughts of root canal work brue.......😱

Travelled up to Manchester yesterday morning, never seen the M6 so quiet. surprised so it only took us a couple of hours.  Went to see the house youngest son and his girlfriend are hoping to buy. It's closer to the centre of Manchester and I admit it's not where I would like to live, but the house is a good size and  next to a nice park and close to all amenities, including a cycle way which means our son can carry on cycling to work.  The lady selling up has lived there for 40 years. It does need some cosmetic work but they have big plans.

We had a wonder round the area which was very busy, but had a lovely market and it is becoming a very popular area to live. In the afternoon we went to Tatton Park and had a lovely walk through the park in the sunshine.

Today we spent some time in the Peaks with them walking up to Surprise View before stopping for lunch and then heading home. Now feeling a bit shattered as it's been quite a busy but enjoyable weekend.

Moulesy we often have similar mishaps with our walks,  hope Mrs M forgives you.smile

Another beautiful morning here on the NY Moors. Blue skies, blazing sunshine, birds singing and that’s all that can be heard, apart from the odd toot of a steam train somewhere in valley below us. Hope everyone wakes up to a nice morning wherever they are.......😁

Pretty much the perfect day here too. Blue skies from the word go again. We'd decided to go a bit further afield today, up the coast to Robin Hood's Bay for a walk along the Cleveland Way to Hawsker and back and then on to Whitby. Parked up by the abbey and walked down to the town for fish and chips by the harbour, up to the Cook monument for an ice cream, walk down through the whalebone arch into town again and back up the 199 (allegedly) steps to the abbey. Just magic! smile
