WN. I have seen the wall paintings in Longthorpe Tower quite a few times. When English Heritage reopened it to the public some years ago there was a series of talks there on the paintings..They are so worth seeing. Longthorpe Tower is open at weekends during the summer. A friend of mine is one of the volunteers.

Hooray for the Caravan Club insurance! Yesterday we sent in our quote for the replacement front window for our caravan which is cracked. We received an email today to confirm that work can go ahead and that they have contacted our dealer to let them know. Very swift service. Mind you they have warned us that getting the spare parts could take a while.

The house is only small, but we were in for quite a while as the guide was very informative. He liked a good old chat too.laughing

I mark up my site directory with all the sites that members on here recommend.

Good to hear that your insurance claim has gone through, Millie. Hope that your dealer is able to find a replacement window quickly.

If MIL is feeling better, as you said she was, you might as well get away and make up for the days you've missed so far this year.

Brue,  Hope that the antibiotics are doing the job and you are no longer suffering toothache......I feel for you if your still in pain.

We woke to a misty start to the day but it soon drifted away, although it remained cloudy and cool most of t g e day.  We drove over Kincardine Bridge into Fife and along to Culross. OH wanted to view some of the locations used in Outlander, so we had a wander round the Burgh, up to the Abbey and finally into Culross Palace. After lunch we headed back to Falkirk and walked up to the Falkirk Wheel and through the woods. Even found a Tesco for fuel on the way back to the van.

A good idea Nellie, why didn't I think of that instead of having bits of paper everywhere!

Nice to read everyone's posts, I have now had several days of toothache, I hope the anti-biotics kick in soon. I was up in the night last night, dosing up with paracetamol when I glanced out of our kitchen door and our visiting badger was rootling around outside in the garden. He turns all the security lights on as he passes so he was well lit up. smile

We think it is, we went on the boat trip they do. The Kelpies are well worth a visit to especially if you can see them at night when they are light up.

Lazyish day today, just drove over to Dundee and did a bit of retail therapy smile  it was quite mild, no coat needed.

Glad you got the insurance claim sorted millie.

We thought it was impressive too, millie. We saw couple of barges being moved up and down today. Passed the Kelpies from the M9 as we drove over to Culross, but will save a visit to them for another day, if we've time. If you choose to come up and see them, we can definitely recommend Beecraigs site, especially mid week at this time of year, as it's very quiet, only about 1/4 of the 20+ pitches occupied, and a bargain with the 4 nights for the price of 3 offer.

We've got a few photos similar to yours sweetyman.

Our second time here, last one was 10yrs ago, and it's much more open now. It's very handy for lots of interesting places west of Edinburgh, and OH has mentioned the Macarthur Glen outlet. Looks as if we'll make an eveing trip there before we head further north on Friday.

we stayed right at the end of October and were charged "high season" prices although we were one of only 3 units on site! However it was well worth it for the area. One of my numerous photos shows all three of the Forth bridges taken from the site .

We've always known it as 'Willow Man'.  It is exactly 280 miles from our caravan storage site to when we turn into Globle Vale Holiday Park, just outside Redruth in Cornwall.  'Willow Man' is exactly 140 miles - half way on our Cornwall journey.

I thought the Wicker Man was the name of a 1970's film starring Edward Woodward.  Mind you, not only have we called Serena de la Hey's sculpture Willow Man or Wicker Man, but we've also called it Stick Man!!  (You can tell I regularly watch children's programmes with my 2 year old granddaughter!  😀😀)

Brue sorry to hear you still have toothache. I hope the antibiotics are beginning to kill the infection. Keep taking the painkillers as antibiotics do nothing for pain! Personally I never ignore a twinge from a tooth - I'm either a whimp or have a low pain threshold. I certainly wish you a speedy resolution.

Milliehull glad you've got the go ahead from the insurance for your caravan repair and hope that sourcing and fitting a replacement is swift. Can you use it in the meantime? We visited the Falkirk wheel about 10 years ago, very impressive! I'd love to see the Kelpie too but won't hold my breath.

Lovely to read of trips away and various occupying of days.

Tricky glad you're excited about your concorde meet, have a fabulous time. When do you go?

I've had a few good night's and slow starts. Yesterday I attacked a chosia bush that was dying, filled a brown bin and still have the thicker branches to chop yet and the stumps and roots to dig out. Delighted to have some 'surplus' energy to tackle it.

Hopefully I've sourced a cleaner we should meet this evening and we can fix a date!

OH still in hospital but chest seems better, I'm getting him off the ward for a cuppa and walk in the  air most afternoons. This ward seems much more caring and I'm happy to visit for less hours which in turn means I can rest. I expect he'll be out soon, his confusion has improved greatly. I've also been given a contact by the ward for support and got a positive response plenty  to read through and consider but good to know what's out there. I started the attendance allowance form but we're too early as you have to have had the reason for the claim for 6 months before making a claim (unless it's life limiting I believe) so there's a bit of respite for a few weeks but having seen the form it's not something to look forward too 😲.

    Enjoy your day folks.

Things sound a bit better Bakers2. I had a better night too, hoping our garden help is here this morning she has been ill, we're all crumbling... wink                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Those forms! I have done them for three people in the past, I got quite good at it, if you need to do it don't hold back on the details. Do hope you have a good day and everyone else too. smile

I know that many of you aren't too keen on Twitter etc, but this may be of interest to some.

In 1940 my late father-in-law wrote a diary.. He was 20, and every day he wrote about the weather and farmwork. And the finally the war.

I have set up a Twitter account and I'm posting his entries day by day.

    Look here -

Bakers2, so pleased to hear you sounding a bit more positive and also pleased to hear that you have found the energy and enthusiasm to spend some time in your garden.  I find being in the garden (either gardening or relaxing) very good for clearing and relaxing the mind.  So glad that you are happy with the care that your OH is receiving.  It makes such a difference. I hope your new cleaner is a success and that your OH will soon be home.

brue, pleased to hear that you have had a better night's sleep.  Hopefully the antibiotics are doing their job and you will soon feel better.  I am like Bakers2 and at the least twinge I am off to the dentist!

I hope you enjoy your Concorde meet up triky.

Lovely photos of the Falkirk Wheel and the Forth bridges.

OH has done a temporary repair with araldite and tape (not the best look in the world!) to the front window of our caravan and we have planned a trip to (you have guessed it Nellie!) Houghton Mill in a weeks time.  At least it is fairly near if anything goes disastrously wrong with the window.

    Happy New Month everyone.

Baker's good to hear from you, glad things are starting to look up for you and OH. Hopefully he will be home soon.

When Mum was diagnosed with dementia the amount of forms that had to be filled in was a bit overwhelming at times but most of them was done by the social worker or the mental health nurse who was fantastic, he did the attendance form for us and very grateful we were to, as his knowledge helped Mum get the highest award.

brue, good that your toothache seems to be getting better, nothing worse, like others as soon as I get a twinge I'm off to the dentist. Not that I mind them, having been a dental nurse in the past I know what can happen if you delay.

Mild day here a bit overcast but the sun is trying to come out smile still more little jobs to do, where do they all come from. I'll be glad when we set off, if we've forgotten something then tough it will have to wait.

    B2

Re attendance allowance. It might be worth checking with your local authority on whether you can also get a reduction in Council Tax if you are entitled to that allowance. Councils tend not to publicize the fact but I mentioned it to a former colleague whose husband has Parkinson's  and I think she has had success. I don't think it's based on income. This might be helpful

Hooray! We're away! Pitched up at Wolverley C&CC site on the dot of 1 o'clock! We've used the site before and found it makes a very handy stop off on the way north with really easy access and it allows us to miss out the more horrendous black spots on the M5/M6 journey. Found a nice walk this afternoon along the canal which runs right past the site and over to Kingsford Country Park,  almost 6 miles - Lady is exhausted now, she'll sleep well tonight! Just the one night here and then off to Goatfell Farm CL tomorrow for 5 nights. The Setter Rescue walk is on Sunday. Last year it was a scorcher but it looks like we'll need fleeces at least this year! surprised

Good to hear better news Bakers, still keeping everything that can be crossed crossed for you. Hope the toothache will clear up too, brue and best wishes to everyone else with ailments.

Enjoy the bank holiday everyone, whether you're home or away - will be back in touch next time we've got wifi! wink

Good to hear that you're getting some better sleep, B2. Hope that you are able to get all the relevant forms sort out.

I'd have put a couple of bob on where you're off to next, millie.wink Have a good trip, enjoy your time there. Hope that the window fix holds up.

Glad to hear that your toothache isn't so bad at the moment, brue. Keep taking the pills.

Having made it down to Taunton on Sunday to have the alarm fitted to the motorhome on Monday the plan was to return via Cirencester where we planned to stay for three nights. Today we decided to abandon our stay and come home early as the problem I have with my cough and chest is not getting any better and I feel it needs checking out by a doctor, even if it turns out just to be a false alarm I think I need that reassurance! No problem with getting a refund for one of the nights but, of course, I had to forfeit one nights fees as per the rules. No issue with that as it was my decision just made it an expensive one night stay!

It started off a bit damp after rain through the night. However it did clear up and we got done all that we planned. Firstly we went to Blackness Castle, on the Forth coast, and then onto Hopetoun House. We did both of the waymarked trails before taking up the house tour and then a wander around the house to see the rooms that weren't included in the tour. Both of these sites were also locations used in the filming of Outlander. We would have called into see the House of Binns on the way back but it is closed this year for restoration, so we'll just have to come back another year to visit it.laughing

Sorry you have had to cut your break David.  Hope the cough gets better soon.

We're *sort of* at Conkers C&CC site from today.  I say sort of, because were backwards and forwards to home for some of the time, and other activities are going on very much as usual.

At Conkers, the term 'hardstanding' takes on a completely different meaning.  Never have I experienced such hard hardstandings.  It's like hitting pegs into concrete.  Anyway, weve eventually got the awning up....
