Forgive me, those who don’t follow football, but what a day. Totally different day out for us, as we seldom visit London, and didn’t actually set foot outside St Pancras in Central London, but the “Wembley off the bucket list” was a fabulous day. It’s an incredible stadium, and both sets of fans made it very special. We shared trains, underground trains, stations, eateries, stories, laughter and the whole day alongside each other, sadly for the Boro fans the wrong result for us, but that’s Boro, and if we were going to lose, it helps losing to Hull City. Never been in the same space with nearly 85,000 other folks having a good time before. Not a very good match in truth, but Hull made the most of their opportunity in the 94th minute, and that was it. A very long day, East Midlands Railways didn’t help entirely with a cancellation, insufficient passenger space, no onboard toilets working, a broken down train, cows on the line weren’t their fault, but the journey down felt cursed, and everyone abandoned the first train at Leicester, so it was cattle class, stood up, squashed into the corridors, train door ways, etc….. Same coming back, no air con, so they were giving out water on the way back, and we nearly got left at Loughborough dashing to move carriage, after they gave advice, but then didn’t give folks time to get off and back on! (We get our travel money back, but that’s the last time we use EMR😱)
A quieter day today🤭
Incredible support from both teams. Boro sold all their tickets in just 48 hours. Hence why Asda was empty🤣

Tough luck on 'Boro @Takethedogalong but in all fairness they were lucky to get another chance. It might turn out to be a blessing given that I can't really see either of the teams playing yesterday being good enough to stay up next year. You really don't want to be yo-yoing.
Been Missing in Action these last few days. Feel a lot more like myself today and according to OH have gratefully reverted to Creamy White from Jaundiced Yellow. Haven't caught up on posts so hope everyone else enjoying the sunshine. Just popped in to make a cuppa so will disappear back out to try to take some of the white off my legs. They look like cigarettes at present.😂

@Takethedogalong don't apologise for football talk post. Good to hear how you got on. To me it sounds appalling for a day out, not particularly the football element! The travelling, crowds, the temperature. But I can also understand the atmosphere. Sadly there's always one team disappointed. These days I don't know much about footie latest and scores - unless son around, DIL is a footie fan too, so didnt know the score position until you posted, I did see the FT score, and guessed it hadn't gone to penalties 😉. At least one poster on this forum is pleased @richardandros
Pleased to read you've improved a bit healthwise @Wherenext
@DEBSC I do hope there's been some improvement for your granddaughter. She's such a trooper and been through the wringer so much. Possibly a little time in the fresh air too?
I'm having such a lazy day 🫣, absolutely bear minimum chores. Checking the greenhouse plants priority, surprisingly ok all things considered. Lounger in the shade is fabulous.
Our garden help coming tomorrow 🥵,his van broke down thursday when he was due. I've got a list, I'm a list gal 😉, so 'we' can pick and choose tasks, areas to work etc. My sweetpeas now have 6 stalks with flowers, a leat 3 heads on each. When I next stir I'll pick them to put them on the dining table. Won't be yet though! Currently 28 in the shade here. Now expected to last until Wednesday evening here. There's definite smells of BBQ's around, so far today not the burning smell of yesterday 🤣. We're not BBQ'ers to me it still appears lots of kitchen work and pans - not to mention the grill pan itself. All that effort for a couple of sausages 🤣🤣, quicker indoors. Our NZ family seem to BBQ all year, but there's is gas and undercover.....

@Takethedogalong back in 1992 when I had a six month sabbitical from work one of the first things I did was to take both boys who were then 13 and 15 to the old Wembley to see a final between Saints and Nottingham Forest, which we lost! I didn't think it was a particularly memorable occasions as most around us seemed the worse wear from drink!!! I hope the new stadium is better? When we got the train back to MK we had to change platforms which was a bit like a scene from Monsieur Hulot's Holiday😊

Glad to hear that others are have fine sunny weather, we have not been quite as fortunate as it has been cloudy for much of the day with a quite strong wind which has, kept the temperature down somewhat, much to the pleasure of OH and Flyte who do hot conditions. Walks around the airfield for us, avoiding the Bank Holiday traffic, but we did venture "off site" to do some necessary shopping after lunch. Hope those that are away enjoy the rest of your stay where ever you are. Grand photos from all that have posted them.
Pleased to read that you are feeling somewhat better @Wherenext hope the improvement continues.
That sounds like a rather traumatic day yesterday @Takethedogalong hope you bothhave a good rest today. OH wasn't taking part in the "Struggle the Dales supportive 250km (Struggle:10)" by any chance?

As stated on here earlier a lovely day so after a relaxing morning on site we took a drive down to Redcar what a pleasant surprise we had never been before and to be honest weren’t expecting much but it was very good. Nice big promenade so we had a walk along there admiring the sea views and the nice boating lake then went in to the lifeboat museum which was nice they have a lifeboat The Zetland from the 1800s and a good exhibition with the history of the lifeboat station got chatting to one of the volunteers who was very knowledgable about the area and lifeboats. Will pay a visit to Redcar again next time we’re down this way the weather made it good might have got a different impression if it was dull and raining. BBQ dinner then a wander over to t he pub for a drink back at the van now but still have the skylights and door open as it’s still very warm

sorry you haven’t been very well @Wherenext Hoping you are mending up a bit now. We only had a day away but it was an exhausting one, so we are only pottering around at home. Agree re the two teams, it wasn’t a good match football wise. Hull will have to cope with VAR as well next season. We are thinking of doing some away day breaks next season, doing away matches at some of Boro’s opposition……Norwich, Bristol, Birmingham, Lancashire Clubs. Good opportunity to watch matches, and see places we have never explored before. Have to see🤔

New stadium is very very impressive. We never got to the old Wembley sadly. It’s all very well controlled nowadays, for a variety of reasons, and we had our pockets, bags checked, plus there’s a very prescriptive list of what you can and cannot take into the stadium. PSPO in operation around the venue, so no street drinking tolerated. We didn’t see any bad behaviour at all anywhere to be honest, and what was nice was all the Boro and Hull fans mingling and chatting all the way to the stadium. Same on the trains as well. I was chatting to the Dad of a very lucky little lad who was going to his very first match, all dressed in the Hull kit. He looked a bit in awe at the noise and the sheer number of people, but a day to remember for him.

I remember that scene from M. Hulot's Holiday very well @DavidKlyne 🤣. I think we still have the DVD somewhere - not that we have anthing to play it on.
Glad you are feeling a bit better @Wherenext Take care.
Best wishes to your grand-daughter @DEBSC What a challenging and difficult time she is having.
Good to see the photos of Redcar @Francis We used to visit a lot with our children when FIL lived in that area and it was beginning to look quite 'run down' when we last visited some years ago so nice to hear your favourable report.
It looks like it is going to be a hot one today. I think it is going to be a day of doing as little as possible

Hello Goldie. Wondering how you are doing. I hope you haven’t had to go back to hospital, but if this is the case, I hope you get back home soon. What is the lovely monument?
Edit……no need to answer, I have found it, and realised you are not at home. Sending best wishes to you and all your family. It’s a lovely view, but not as lovely as your farm.

A short circular walk from the site today but apart from that just a very lazy day on site.
I think when distances were measured in fractions of a mile life was slower.

Back home life is very busy. I’ve picked the worst possible time to be ill - it’s silage time. Our daughter came up for a couple of days and filled the fridge with sandwich making stuff - and made up two days of lunch boxes.
I’m keeping in touch with my husband by phone and he completely broke me when he said that this was the first hay/silage time I’d missed in 56 years

Aw bless you Goldie, it’s little things like that which hit very hard. Good to keep in touch though, and you have a wonderful family supporting each other and pulling together. Get your OH to smuggle in some wild flowers for you, even if they have to go back home with him, it will bring a little bit of the farm to you.💐 Tiny little pick me ups can help wonderfully. Some paper print offs of scenes from the farm stuck on your bedside cabinet? My Dad was once in hospital for a very long time, and we did all sorts to keep him in touch. I used to spend hours playing cards with him.
Grilled medium rare here, had a couple of hours in Mums garden, her green house is now full of tomato plants. Sis is doing potatoes, like OH. It’s a competition I think.🤭

Best of luck @Goldie146. Really sorry to hear of relapse. It's really knocked you about.
We invited the neighbour who lost her husband over to sit in the garden and just chill with the ladies. Ice creams all around. I think she just needs an ordinary chat. It's been hard on her.

That was so kind of you all @Wherenext I am sure she appreciated it. Those 'little moments' of normality mean a lot.

I met one of Mum’s neighbours this morning. Her husband has dementia, but he’s usually the one to take the pooch for a walk. It sounds like he’s getting worse, she looked worn out bless her. Got family who do help out, but they sound like they need more help really. Hoping she will come round for a coffee and a chat. They have always been good neighbours with Mum and Dad.

Just sat down in the shade. Garden help has just left. He's a trooper! I have assisted but he's been beavering away since 0830. Its nice having company when it looks overwhelming. It wasnt that bad, but the heat etc good excuse not to start!
I emptied all plants from the greenhouse, south and west facing, thermometer, not in there say, 33c poor devils. Some needing potting in different pots, tomorrow I think and a few to go in the ground, when I can get a fork in!
Planted up container for the front door with petunias but too hot to put there yet.
In all this heat he removed the pots on the 'garlic bed' 🤞4 layers of weed suppressant with a bark mulch doing what it needs to do, although we have found an odd one training to escape!, and added 3 bags of bark. Looking pretty good
The poor tree, gets sicker by the year, it'll be curtains in the autumn.
@Goldie146 I've been thinking of you and wondering... Take care of yourself. As hard as it must be concentrate on you and hopefully you'll be in your rightful place next year
@Wherenext thats a lovely afternoon for your neighbour, a bit of 'normality' in a world consumed with grief, paperwork and sorting.
Sorry if I've missed commenting on anything important but its shower time! Ive been doing a very good impression of a boiled beetroot with a salty drip all day. Then its get the hose out .....

We got home this afternoon after a lovely 10 day break at White Water Club site at Stockton on tees lovely site that’s the second time we have been there and really enjoy it it’s well located for lots of attractions in the North East and there are some excellent cycle routes from the site and a good pub right across the road. Weather was decent during week and excellent over the bank holiday weekend. Four hour tow home today made good time but progress was a bit slow on the A66 as they are doing a lot of roadworks on it just now but apart from that it was fine even quiet around Glasgow. Caravan now back in it’s space on the drive we have a few things happening over the next couple of weeks so probably won’t manage to get away again now until the second week of June. Weather still nice here at home so been getting some jobs in the garden attended too
Goldie hope you improve soon best wishes

Enjoyed your photos and places visited @Francis 👍

Good to hear that you didn't have too many delays on your way home @Francis you certainly made the most of your time at White Water, one of the better CC sites in our opinion.
Sorry to see you are backing hospital @Goldie146 hope that you are able to get home soon.
Glad you had a pleasant afternoon with your neighbour and the ladies @Wherenext very thoughtful of you all.
It has been warm and sunny here today, but a fair bit cooler than much of the country due to an offsea breeze. We had a couple of short local walks, and Flyte had a short paddle in the sea, but it was still too warm for him and OH, so they spent much the afternoon in the shade by the van while I had a longer walk.

It has been hot in Glasgow today compared to our usual temperatures, but very pleasant sitting in the shade as there was a nice breeze.
DD had more parts for her terrace balustrade delivered on Friday, so we are getting organised for starting to do the fitting, which is quite complicated, hope it will work out to her satisfaction when complete!
On Saturday OH was in charge of the boys while DD and I went to SIL’s flat to do a few things, which all took longer than expected, as usual. We have hung the new heaters in the bedrooms ready for the electrician next week, and put in the fixings for the towel warmer in the bathroom, but discovered that the painter had not painted that wall, breakdown in communications, so will need to find some suitable paint for that very soon, and take down the other things the joiners will be fitting.Having washed the laminate floors, she found quite a bit of scratching, so the kitchen one will get new vinyl, and the bedroom a carpet. I shampooed the other carpet, so will see if that is good enough to retain once it is dry. Joiners come next Monday to start, so we will need to get a move on.
On Sunday DD and the boys were here for lunch after swimming, and all afternoon, so DD and OH sorted a lot of caravan stuff while I took the boys to the play park, twice. Today, after OH’s exercise class, we picked up the timber for making the blocks the balustrade will be fixed to, and took it down to her garage to cut into suitable sized pieces that I brought home to work on. Roads very busy, lots of hold-ups due to roadworks and temporary traffic lights, bad planning by the council to start the work right before a holiday weekend.
Tomorrow DD has a day off so will come up here to do more towing training, boys will be back at school.
Goldie, sorry to hear that you are back in hospital, hope this stay will not be too long.0 -
I am still not getting email alerts for posts. I would be very grateful if @Rowena could get someone to sort it out for me please.
