@nelliethehooker really beautiful pictures. Such amazing colours.

Fabulous long weekend at the Thetford Forest site. Lots of walking, birdwatching etc., also visited Oxbrough Hall, must be 10 years ago since we last visited. Highlight of the trip for me we watching 2 x Stone Curlews with 2 chicks.
Lots of farmers have let their fields show how beautiful they are full of poppies
Now back home after dropping van at daughter’s for SIL to fix the cutlery draw

Great to see the photo of the field of poppies @Oneputt
Thanks for the comments about yesterday's snaps. We were fortunate to pick the right time of the year to see them in full bloom. It has been raining on and off all day so only managed a few walks through the woods by the site today.
I came across this construction which I suspect was once an icehouse for Cortachy Castle close by. Like the way the tree roots have grown over it.
This gatepost caught my attention
On our site, a wind driven mechanical recycle!!

I bet my OH could run a washing machine “cycle” on that contraption @nelliethehooker I often threaten to hook him up😁

Day 2 of the Scafflder & Roofer 'no show' …; allegedly, the scaffolder forgot that yesterday was a Bank Holiday and schools were off, so impromptu childminding was the order of the day … If we used to send them up chimneys, surely kids on scaffolding is an improvement? - out in the fresh air, and it's just like the Climbing Frame in the Park … Just need some lateral thinking 😁

I am still not getting email alerts for posts on here. Is anyone else still having the same problem? I hope @Rowena can sort it out please
1 -
@milliehull - I'm still not getting them either. There has been the odd day when it has worked and I thought it was fixed - but - no, it wasn't☹️. Another one for @Rowena, please.

@milliehull no I’m still not receiving email alerts either! Nor am I getting the little red icon that shows new posts.

Great photos @nelliethehooker, @heddlo and @Oneputt. It's a few years since we have been to Oxbrough Hall. It is such a beautiful place.
We have some great postbox toppers in Peterborough Cathedral ready for The Longest Yarn exhibition which opens tomorrow. Here are a few of them.

It is so well constructed and most amusing to see how it articulates when the wind blows!
2 -
Those postbox toppers are so well made @milliehull I think the exhibition will be another success.
We have had a day of mixed weather with a fine dry morning and early afternoon after a wet night, but a period of thunder, lightning and rain around 1600 hrs and now we have blue skies again. We visited Kinnordy Loch first to see what was about and then had a walk around Cadnam Woods at Kirriemuir, passing the weaver's cottage that was JM Barrie's very ordinary birth place on the way back to the site.

Sunny again today, have sterilised the van water system ready for its first outing, and given it a good vacuum inside, otherwise have been working on the timber blocks that DD’s balustrade posts will attach too…..17 in total so taking a while.
OH was at physiotherapist today. Apparently she has improved at bending, but still has a lot of pain. Physio is now questioning the diagnosis of sciatica as the symptoms are not quite right, so she is to see GP again next week for better pain relief and x rays of her back. She suspects referred pain from arthritis, hopefully a flare up that will eventually subside.
We have started sewing a couple of fitted sheets for the caravan beds, OH found a very large flat sheet that we never use on our bed these days, big enough to make 2 fitted sheets, so we might as well use that. DD said she has some sheeting she bought for a long forgotten project, so if there is enough of it, we can make a second set.
Caravan kitchen stuff has been mostly sorted through, so now to start weighing things and putting them into the van soon. Final site for our July/August trip now booked, we are going to try the CL at Ruthin that Maddie posted on the opened/closed CL thread. Will save a lot of driving when we visit my friend nearby.

Wall to wall grey skies and it’s chucking it down. I know we need some rain, but. So unlike last weeks high temperatures, we do have strange, changeable weather in this country. We are at the caravan, came on Sunday, we used my little car as we are sharing the driving and I’m happier driving that but I might have to try driving the bigger car more now. We left it til Sunday as Friday and Saturday are change over days so at the end of half term we thought that the better option but still very busy. The M5 was stop start all the way until past Bristol, which suited my small car better really, and probably me. We stopped at Sedgemoor services, as usual but it was packed, queues to get in and we couldn’t park. Went to the overflow but even that was almost full, never seen it like that before. Very quiet here, no neighbours about. The touring field was busy when we arrived but down to just a few vans now, everyone must have seen the weather forecast.
Stratford yesterday, just a little wander round the shops for me, OH didn’t get much further than the theatre. We went there for a light lunch, lovely views across the river and park from the upstairs restaurant. Then we went to the garden centre and the mobility shop that is there. Very helpful owner. He suggested 2 mobility scooters, both light and will come apart to fit in the car and he said both suitable for OH as he is tall. He suggested that I take them apart, into 5 pieces, lift them and then put them back together, which I did. Both a lot more than OH intended to pay, but I think that is partly because it’s something that he doesn’t really want, understandable, but needs must. It’s been hard enough in the past to even get him to use a walking stick. We will probably go back on Friday for him to try them and to see if they will fit in my car.
Cousin and her husband coming over later, we usually go to them, unless having a bbq here, (no chance today) but they suggested that it would save us keep driving, so fine with that and looking forward to seeing them. We may have a day out tomorrow and venture further, maybe Burford.

Glad you got mobility scooter sorted @DEBSC I know how hard it can be when one is needed but there is resistance🤨 Looking after my parents has taught me to be ready to embrace any kind of help or aids there are, as it does make life so much easier for everyone!
We had a day out to Lincoln yesterday. Stopped off at Doddington Hall, which hosts an Iris Festival once a year. Not open yesterday (we did know) but the farm shop and other outlets are always worth a look around. We got parked up near Lincoln Castle, and walked through with the intention of doing the wall walk, but they wanted £16 each, and part of it was not available, so we decided to go to Cathedral instead, as we have done rest of castle before. Some nice independent shops up in Bailgate, and at the top of the hill. Enjoyed Cathedral, we always do, and discovered another interesting tomb in there, one I haven’t found before…..George Tailboys, son of Gilbert Tailboys and Elizabeth (Bessie) Blount. She was Henry VIII mistress, and mother of his illegitimate son, Henry Fitzroy. I do like an interesting tomb🤭 Terrific thunderstorm on drive home, could hardly see to drive and lots of standing water on roads. Cleared up as we got closer to home.
Photo of a crest/coat of arms on a tomb……can’t find any details, but it has an unusual Bull on it, so any history buffs, if you want to help? It was near Tailboys tomb, in Women’s Chapel. (Not the Lady Chapel)

@DEBSC - just tell your OH that his money isn't going to do much good for him, sitting in the bank - whereas the scooter will! We had got to the point where we just didn't go anywhere when we were away in the van because I just couldn't walk more than a few yards without being in absolute agony. Now we can - and it's made such a difference.😀 Spurred on by @Takethedogalong 's comments, I'm actually looking forward to being able to potter about in Lincoln when we're next @Skybarn Farm CL in July - something we haven't done for ages. Not sure how the scooter will cope with Steep Hill, though🤔.
We're going through a bit of a difficult time at the moment - to say the least. I think I mentioned in the past that Ros has had breast cancer twice - many, many years ago - resulting in surgery and radio therapy on both occasions. She found another lump recently and, bypassing the GP - she went straight to the Breast Care Unit and arranged a mammogram a week or so ago. Unfortunately, they called her back on Monday and performed two biopsies and we're waiting for the results. The staff in there have been absolutely wonderful and so supportive towards her - but it's the waiting for results that's stressful. Hope our break away next week goes some way towards taking her mind off it.

@richardandros sending best wishes to Ros🤞🤞

Best of luck @richardandros for Ros. Unfortunately I don't think anything will take her mind (or yours) off it but hope the biopsies are kind to her. Talking to a neighbour who recently lost her spouse she said that the Cancer unit at Wrexham was magnificent. @DEBSC seemed to have the same opinion of her local cancer staff and my OH said her experience of ours was outstanding and compassionate. Fortunately hers was quite a few years ago now. The nuts and bolts staff operating in various specialist areas always seem to be high quality both in knowledge but also empathy and compassion. Its the front end at A&E that needs some sorting. Too many time wasters (patients not staff) end up clogging the system up.
Had a trip to see if we could get OH some proper walking sandals but without success. Very temperamental weather today.
Isn't Eleanors remains at Lincoln @Takethedogalong?

@richardandros , so sorry to hear this, it must be extremely worrying. Best wishes to Ros.

@richardandros thinking of you both.

@Wherenext yes, Eleanor of Castile’s viscera tomb (the gruesome bits). She’s the Queen who the Eleanor Crosses were built for, marked her journey stopping points back down to London. Katherine Swynford is buried in there as well, along with her daughter Joan Beaufort.

Best wishes @richardandros Thinking of you both. I hope you can enjoy your trip away.

@richardandros best wished to Ros and hope she will enjoy your short break.

@richardandros best wishes to you both

Will do, but it will be a while as 7/8 weeks till we go there.
Turns out we were there at the tea room for lunch once a couple of years back with my friend, it seemed very popular. No CL there at that point. They said they had availability, so just waiting for them to confirm our booking now.

@richardandros very best wishes to you both and hope all is going to be well.

All our best wishes from us also to you both @richardandros Enjoy your forthcoming trip away and perhaps you will be able to put the thoughts of the outcome of the biopsies to the back of your mind for a little while at least. BTW we hope that you are no longer having pain from your cracked ribs, and that they are healing nicely.
I had a phone call from the hospital a few days ago to say that they had successfully removed the squamous cancer from my scalp, and all is clear thankfully. I know have ensure that head and face are protected with factor 50 sun cream and a cap when out and about.
@Takethedogalong when we visited Lincoln Cathedral one specific reason was for OH to view the tomb of Katherine Swylnford, but unfortunately they had moved it and we couldn't find it as time was pressing!😟

@richardandros sorry to hear you are both under stress at present. Sending best thoughts and hoping all will be well for Ros. Do try to enjoy your break.

We left the excellent CS in Angus this morning just before the rain arrived, had a rather wet drive down to the Tay but thankfully it was dry when we arrived at another CS, new to us, midway between Dundee and Perth. It continued to rain off and on during the afternoon but we managed our walks in the dry around the site's small wood.
I then came across this ruined late medieval chapet at Westown during my late afternoon walk.
