What are you all up to

I am not altogether sure, but teams do spend an awful lot of time going through how opponents play, particularly how they use and defend “dead ball” tactics, which is what the individual who was spying was videoing. We have watched Boro a few times this season, and all I can say is that they visibly played very differently in the first half of the game against Southampton. That difference is what the spy was filming I should think.
The sheer chaos they have caused by blatantly breaking EFL rules an admitted three times has been terrible for the fans of the three teams involved in the cheating, and all those fans of the three teams caught up in this playoff fixture, which is the World’s most expensive game, worth a staggering £2.2m pounds in club income, via TV rights, sponsorships, Premier League gate incomes, etc….. (The money in football is I agree, almost immoral, but the World’s broadcasters pay £billions to air the games around the World) More important I think for place’s like Middlesbrough, Hull and I am guessing (not knowing the place) Southampton, is how much income football generates for the local communities. Every hotel in Boro is booked up before every game, we know because we are part of the visitors, also eating and shopping in the town as well. So in an area as deprived as Middlesbrough, football is a good source of income for many….eateries, hotels, pub’s, taxi’s, local places of interest, etc…… It’s terrible for Southampton’s fans, they have been badly let down. Heads should roll there.
On a funny note, Portsmouth FC did send a tongue in cheek message to Southampton saying they were looking forward to next season’s South Coast derby🤭
It’s not a done deal, they have appealed. The Southampton players are disgruntled and looking for possible compensation from the Club for potential loss of earnings, it’s an absolute mess. Anything could still happen🤷♀️

Poor Boro fans☹️ East Coast mainline to London is closed between Darlington and York on Saturday, so that’s another hurdle to jump if trying to get to Wembley. It’s going to be a tense day today, North and South.

There are plenty of comments on the BBC website saying that, since Hull City are the only team left to have won a game, they should get automatic promotion. It wouldn't surprise you to know that I agree!😀

@nelliethehooker - I've read that Wigan are fielding a much changed and, theoretically, weaker side for tomorrow's game, so I'm not sure how much it will affect the final. I think, having already lost 4 games this season they've probably given up on the league leaders shield. But at full strength they'll be very dangerous opponents at Wembley. (If I could get a decent set of binoculars I could maybe sabotage Wigan's hopes by going up to spy on The Robins training ground!) 🤣

Should Southampton get reinstated (which would tell the rest of the footballing World that cheating, and lying really does give you the jackpot) I can assure you we will be wholeheartedly cheering on Hull City😁
Hull has its own fleet of “Hull Trains” that go to London, often a cheaper option for us than going LNER. But we might give Hull Trains a swerve this time (if we get tickets) 🤭🤣
3 -
Totally agree @Takethedogalong - I will be appalled if Southampton get reinstated. Good luck with getting tickets - hope you are successful. Just pleased that I'm not the Police Match Commander at Wembley - had enough of that at Boothferry Park for 8 years!!

I’ve been watching football since I was a small child, and don’t enjoy all the play acting nowadays either. The referees generally are not as good as they once were, and as for the governance overall, I rather keep quiet. Women’s football doesn’t seem as tainted, but my only experience of watching it is a few England Women’s Internationals. They are of course, much more successful than the Men’s team🤭🤣

I've just read that some of the (blameless, or should that be clueless) Southampton players are considering suing the club for "loss of potential future earnings". The football world ( at least at this level) truly has hone stark, raving mad.
I'm so glad I support a lower league team - though hopefully, after next season, not such a low league as at present! 🤞

@richardandros - Boothferry Park! That takes me back a few years (far more than I care to admit). Took our school U14's to play a cup final there, must have been late 70's/ early 80's. But I don't remember a police match commander being required on the day! 🤣

it’s utter mayhem to be honest….. Hull are selling tickets for a game at 4.30 pm v Southampton, Boro are selling tickets for a game v Hull at 3.30 pm, Boro don’t really know if they are going, Hull don’t know who they will be playing, Southampton players are thinking of sueing their club for loss of potential earnings, Southampton fans want compensation for everything that’s gone on, Wrexham have entered the fray and want the semis replayed, minus Southampton. No one knows if the game will be played on the Saturday, or mid week next week, LNER have closed the mainline Saturday between Darlington and York so it will be chug chug by bus for the first part of the trip, and the thoughts of 70,000 Yorkshire folks wandering London after a few beers prior to the game might prove interesting🤭
The ramifications of what they have done, considered by a few as “a bit of cheating, and don’t they all do it” are just snowballing. Middlesbrough FC have had no presence at the hearings, no right of appeal. Hostages to justice.

Not a great day today. I've been off colour for the last 2 days, probably a bit of exhaustion has played its part, but today even worse for our friend whose funeral it was. Never a good day but I'm glad he had a good send off with plenty of village folk there.
We have an open door for his widow who helps us enormously by calling in to see MiL when we're away for the night.
@DSB - we were chatting to 2 locals at the reception and they have a caravan. They have just booked the last available pitch for a long weekend but have to travel to Montgomery for it. They couldn't find anywhere else nearer with pitch availability. I think the forecast is good for most and its half term as well. Think we'll catch up with jobs.

@Wherenext hope you feel better soon

I hope you feel better soon @Wherenext Not a good day for you today. Very emotional I'm sure. Take care.

Sorry to read that you are not feeling well @Wherenext hope you soon recover. Today's activities will not have taken a toll.
Things are complicated enough already @Takethedogalong it would make a completely unacceptable situation should the Appeals Committee overturn the EFL's commission 's decision.
@milliehull another bank of Bluebells, this time up Auchenblae Glen, from yesterday.

@nelliethehooker Sensible decision thank goodness. Fingers crossed for Wembley tickets now, but there ain’t a lot left. We cannot try until later tomorrow. We have other contingency plans to watch the game though.
Hoping to get to Renishaw tomorrow, nice stroll around the gardens, and woodlands.
Hope you feel a lot better soon @Wherenext

It has been a fine dry, but still breezy up to this evening. We had a couple of walks along by the R. North Esk, from the Blue Door, upstream before lunch and then downstream after. The river was quite low but still quite a torrent where it entered the gorge.
We returned through Fettercairn to view the Royal Arch, built to commemorate Victoria's visit in 1861, and built in 1864.

@Takethedogalong I have just noticed that the original destination was upheld. Hope you can grab a pair of tickets, if not will you head up to Riverside to watch the match?

Another good day here today I was up early and went out a nice cycle along the river @Takethedogalong cycled to somewhere that may be familiar to you see pic below lol
Yesterday in Pickering we had bought some sausage rolls from the bakery there so had them for lunch then headed out to Saltburn got parked near the beach then took a nice walk along the shore front and the pier lovely views and it was actually quite warm. Went for a drink at the Ship Inn once there decided just to stay and have dinner excellent meal and we had a table with a nice sea view such a nice place. Got back to the van around 7 so I wandered across to the pub near the site to watch the Europa league final good result for Villa pub busy but managed to get a seat near the telly. Weather looking promising for the up coming weekend site expected to be busy not sure of tomorrows plans yet.

@Wherenext hope that you are feeling much better soon.
I saw 20 posts on here that I hadn’t read but it didn’t take me long to whip through when I saw they were mostly about football, which just goes over my head, sorry guys.
Well unbelievably the lovely weather at the weekend has stopped us going away! We had planned another break at the caravan but when OH saw the expected temperatures he changed his mind. He’s been rather under the weather for a bit and as our caravan has no shade he’s decided against it. His words, ‘it’s lovely but it’s a tin box in the middle of a field in 30 degrees heat’. We do have a portable air conditioning unit but he still doesn’t want to go. Me - I’d just sit out in the sunshine. Our house and garden are very shady so we have put it off for a few days. I’ve plenty to do in the garden so not too upset, but we can’t extend our break on the other end as I have to get back for appointments. Have a great weekend everyone.

@DEBSC 🤣🤣🤣 same here! I had no idea what was being talked about either, but it’s great we all have different interests.

Sorry folks for all the football, that was me🤭 Not a guy by the way, a footie loving female. Very good Aston Villa result.
Lovely photos @Francis we know this area so well. How was the food at the Ship Inn, it’s usually been good when we have called in? We like to park the MH up on the seafront at Saltburn as well, go for a walk, then get Fish and Chips to dine in comfort in the MH, watching the surfers, etc…… The old gates from Ayresome Park, in front of the Riverside. It’s good luck to walk through them on match days🤭I am guessing you rode your bikes up Saltburn hill? Often used for British Cycling road race championship, bit of a gasper🥵
The heatwave hasn’t reached here yet, but at least it isn’t raining today.

Two Wembley tickets, and the trains booked. Promise not another word now🤐🤭

Sorry I wasn’t criticising the football talk at all, as @heddlo said, it just goes over my head. And we do all need different interests, and to chat about them. I just know that someone was spying and that Aston Villa did well. 🤣 I’ll get back to my decking staining job. 🤭

@Takethedogalong that's fabulous. Good luck to both times......
@Wherenext I do hope you're feeling better.
OH had cataract op yesterday, all went well. Didn't have too much of an issue getting him out of the door and into the hospital for 0750. Ten minutes before schedule 😀. Almost spoilt for choice on parking spaces even with a steady stream of vehicles entering, and leaving, hospital grounds.
Whilst out today, having just made a check up appointment with the opticians as requested by hospital, left there to have lunch out and phone call offering date for the other eye - before the optician appointment 🤣. So back, well nextdoor but one, to explain. They shocked at speed but keep the appointment in case op doesn't happen. I'm going same day as its been a while.....
Was a busy day yesterday as collected youngest grandson, various activities within the family 🫣, at 1730 not usually on the itinerary. Today was set to be similar but garden help texted to say van broken 🥲. So slight let off. Tonight history group looking good so need to.arrive early!
Elder gandson tomorrow, non pupil day, trip to the cathedral to see the dinosaur, possibly the museum too. Then cricket at 1730. Have now acquired grand dog for 2 days 🫣🤣🤣
How I long for retirement 🫣🤣🤣

best wishes to your OH @Bakers2 hope OH has no issues. I love your précis of the last few days of sporting mayhem @DEBSC 🤣
Good weather still to arrive here, it’s overcast and a bit warmer though, so not complaining. Off to my yarn group later, we are planning a crochet camping weekend for a bit later in the year. Looks like it will be not too far away for us all, £6 a night, so for me that includes HS for MH, there are nice loos and showers, and we get use of a little events hall with a kitchen, which will weather proof our event. Only a couple of nights, but will be a good chill out session, with plenty of fun and wool!
