We must be lucky here.... no problem with finding a NHS dentist. Mind you, I have been with our current dental practice in the village since 1079, when we arrived in Polesworth. It has 'changed hands' several times as it's been passed on - usually when one dentist retires, one of the juniors takes on head of practice.... the same with Drs....

Edit: 🤣🤣🤣... just realised what I've written.. it was actually 1979 when we arrived in Polesworth.... 🤣🤣🤣

One saving grace regards costs is the fact that last year I am not sure we got to the denist, even for a checkup? Likewise glasses so I suppose we have to factor those cost savings in. Rather than belong to Plans we have a separate savings account which we add to monthly so that, whilst not covering the full cost goes someways of dealing with the shock!
At least the numbness caused by the injection this morning has more or less worn off now so I can manage a cup of tea or coffee without dribling!!!

We are both on the Denplan scheme and, although it is not cheap per se, with 4 visits each a year to the hygienist and 2 checkups by the dentist, plus treatment we consider it good value for money as we can get free emergency treatment when away from home, which we are for much of the year, should we require it. P!eased to read that you are now able to enjoy a cuppa without that annoying dribbling @DavidKlyne
After rain through the night it has been fine all day and we had a couple of reasonably dry underfoot walks around the heath around Little Budworth. We got confirmation from our next site and then booked the third one this evening, going back to a favourite to visit one or two historic properties that were not open the last time we were there.

There was some snow on the hills yesterday morning and you certainly had better weather than around here @nelliethehooker. Surprise, Surprise it's raining again today.
Just about to see if the ladies going out so I might get a morning of P&Q. Then again I might end up driving them. Oh, the excitement.😀

Now glasses is something else!!! @DavidKlyne . I have to be honest, and say, I do always put off visits to the opticians. Over the years, I have used many different opticians, and which ever one I go to, it always seems to cost me a lot of money.....
Everytime I have my eyes tested, I either 'need' new frames or lenses. Then when I get tbe glasses, I never feel they are much better than the last lot - and it always costs a small fortune!! Currently I use Vision Express. Last year, I had the option of paying outright or to have a 'monthly insurance' payment. The monthly thing included a comprehemsive insurance and also a 'free' change of lenses should I need them, as well as the cost of the glasses/ lenses. This monthly payment came to exactly the same price spread over the year, as the one off payment for the glasses. I went for the monthly payment this time.... I got the glasses and insurance. The sales staff gave me the impression it was a bit of a 'no-brainer'. I wonder what the 'offer' will be this year!!

Some of you pay astronomical costs for dental work sadly. We are both lucky and are with a practice that takes NHS patients, been with them a very long time, different dentists of course. I get free annual eye tests, as my Mum has Glaucoma, so it’s part of the NHS deal, but OH pays. I only need glasses for driving at the moment, so don’t get anything too fancy, and use cheapo readers for close work, have loads of pairs scattered in various locations. My time will come though, I know.
It’s still raining here. Everything is going green it’s that blinking damp. Night out for us tonight, not too far only Sheffield.

It was the Chiropodist we had a visit from today, only £60 for both of us, a little bit of luxury😊
All pensioners are entitled to an annual eye test for free. I think it won't be long before the Government actually mandate that if you drive over a certain age you will need an annual test? As far as opticians are concerned we have stuck with Boots as they have served Margaret well with her diabetic tests and have highlighted problems to the NHS. I just wish it was easier to replace lenes rather than having to buy new frames. Although having said that I am not particularly gentle with my glasses! Now having said that these are the first new glasses I have had in 3 years. The test on the first anniversary showed no change and at the time of the second anniversary I was embroiled in my stroke so eye tests went out the window. If you spread the cost over three years its not quite as bad as it seems? With dentists I think it important to find one you are comfortable and relaxed with. Somewhere like MK is always going to have an issue with supply and demand because of above average annual population growth. I did today have a look at Denplan and it looks as if the annual cost for both of us wouldn't be much different to paying as we go. Neither of us like the hygienist and once a year is enough for us so factoring in two visits a year is not what we want although the dentist might have a different view? Its probably a fine line between what is essential and what is added value to the practise?

It was raining quite hard when the ladies were setting off to a Tweed Mill for clothes shopping for MiL, as obviously she doesn't have enough.😂 So I offered to drive and did so. Not wanting to waste a morning I dropped them off then drove the 5 minutes back to visit St.Asaph Cathedral, the smallest cathedral in the UK. I've been before but it's over 30 years since the last time.
It's a lovely little intimate place ands a fascinating history. The first stone was put down in the 1200s and its bishop in the late 1500s, after Elizabeth 1 came to throne, had the first bible written in Welsh. Prior to QE1 it was forbidden by Charles to have the bible in any language apart from English. This the formed the base for the Welsh language to be written down and taught.
A few photos that took my eye today.
No.1 is the full space of the Cathedral, No.2 is self evident, No.3 is a modern sculpture of the Last Supper. Each of the small tiles is from a computer keyboard, all 50,000 of them, supposedly tying the Last Supper as still being relevant in the modern era. No.4 and No.5 are self evident and No.6 is a memorial to the original 6 people involved in bringing the Bible and Common Book of Prayer to the Welsh population in their own language.
We returned home with various items of new clothing but on the way out of the Mill saw the most wonderful of Rainbows I have ever seen. Obviously MiLs pot of Gold at the end of it.

Niece called me yesterday to say my brother, her father, had been taken into hospital in a critical condition. I drove to Hampshire to find he has any number of problems including sepsis he’s still unconscious. The staff have been wonderful and very caring. Now back home.

@Oneputt sorry to hear about your brother
We left home early afternoon and arrived here on site just after 2 just local but so good to be away again it’s been three months since we were last away in the van. Site not busy at all it’s been raining on and off all afternoon not a great forecast for the weekend ahead but we are just happy to be away again. Just sitting in the van now having a drink and watching Doc Martin.
Hope everyone else has a nice weekend

@DavidKlyne thanks for asking. He is home now, so I think that his stroke wasn't too serious, if there is such a thing with a stroke. Hopefully he will slowly recover with the rehab he is having, I am waiting for an update on his progress.

So sorry to hear about your brother @Oneputt I hope that he pull through.
Enjoy your weekend away @Francis fingers crossed that the weather improves for you. Nice to be away, isn't it?!!
Grand photos @Wherenext the cathedral looks like a good place for a visit.
It has rained on and off here throughout the day but we have been able to fit our walks, from the site, without getting wet. Hope it will be a bit drier tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about your brother @Oneputt - hope he gets better - and also your brother @nelliethehooker. Best wishes for a full recovery to you as well @Goldie146 - everyone seems to be going through it at the moment.
I think we all need a bit of sunshine - looks like another grey, wet day here again although the temperatures are supposed to improve later.
Lovely photos @Wherenext - what an interesting place to visit.

@Wherenext beautiful pictures. Looks like a great place to visit. The Last Supper is stunning, a real labour of love.
@Goldie146 sorry to hear you are still fighting this awful infection, fingers crossed you can get home soon. Spring is on the way and you will be looking forward to seeing your beautiful bluebells, I still remember the pictures of your bluebell wood you sent to CT a couple of years ago.
@Oneputt worrying news about your brother. Hope he can recover soon, best wishes to you.

Hope you are improving @Goldie146 - thinking about you and all those who are poorly. There seems to be a lot of illness about at the moment - not only 'on here', but locally too.

@nelliethehooker Good to hear your brother is home. I am sure strokes come in all shapes and sizes. IF he is home so soon that must be a very positive sign. They will be monitoring him and perhaps put him on blood thinners to protect him?

Very sad to hear about your brother @Oneputt . Hope he and others have better days. I was thinking of you @Goldie146 last night, we were at a concert and I know you love your music. This was the Tubular Bells Anniversary Tour, and it was excellent. Devised by Mike Oldfield and one of his original musicians, with some superb younger musicians performing. Well worth going to see.
That “Last Supper” sculpture is beautiful, and so unusual. Have never been to St Asaph’s, it looks well worth a visit.
Sun is shining here, for how long, who knows, but it’s good to see it.

@Goldie146 nice to hear from you best wishes

A while since I have looked in here…….as DSB said there is a lot of illness around. Goldie…..I hope you are making progress and will get home before much longer, and Oneputt…..hope you get better news about your brother soon
We have been keeping busy on various projects…….trying to work out how to improve/repair our front entrance steps……arranging the installation of new LED lighting at our local Guide Hall……getting the caravan ready to go for service next month….. birthday parties and presents for the grandchildren…….sorting out savings accounts.
This week I had to have a tooth out, then in a few months I need to decide what to do about the gap. OH has a physio appointment next week for her Sciatica, it is just getting worse and worse, some days she can hardly walk. We were planning a trip in the caravan, but perhaps there is no point at present.

@Oneputt sorry to hear about your brother I hope that he makes a good recovery, all very worrying for you and the family.
@Goldie146 sorry to hear that you are still in hospital. I hope that you are being well looked after and are soon able to return home feeling much better.
Grey overcast and wet here, a little warmer though. So indoor jobs today, in the hope of gardening another day, as soon as it dries up.

JusJust popped on whilst having a swift break. Still returning boxes of stuff from upstairs to the kitchen. It will be done - one day!
Can I echo milliehull's thoughts. Best wishes to everyone, healthy or recovering. I'm still struggling with the cold/cough bug myself.
GlGlad your OH has finally got an appointment @KjellNN 🤞

Been a decent day here today we just relaxed this morning in the van and due to the rain didn’t bother going a walk but we decided to ventured out in the car around took a drive along to Knoepark Caravans for a wander and picked up a couple of things from their accessory shop then on way back went in to Greggs for something to eat and SWMBO had a wander around the nearby retail park. Now back at the van planning a night in with a few drinks and watch the tv. Still drizzly but @nelliethehooker as you say it’s great just to be away again even when we are close to home we could be anywhere It’s almost dark now but the nights are getting longer by the day
1 -
I hope it is not long before you are fit enough to be allowed home @Goldie146 best wishes from me too.
Fingers crossed that conversation over the cold bug @Bakers2 and that the physiotherapist is able to ease your wife's Sciatica @KjellNN and that you are able to get away soon.
It is a shame about the weather you are having @Francis and no doubt it will be fine just when you hear back home!
We had a fine and relatively warm start to the day with early sunshine after more rain through the night. As the old gain track that passes the site is well used so rather muddy we returned to the dried heathland at Little Budworth for another couple of walks. On returning to the van I was able to get bits packed away, for tomorrow's move, before the rugby started!!😣😣 It then poured down for about an hour which reflected England's display, but at least Scotland managed to beat Wales, but it was a near thing!

We are just heading off to Manchester Velodrome. It’s a mere 30 odd miles, but we have allowed two hours, the delights of crossing the Pennines. At least it’s a scenic run…….
