No sitting on the bench in the sun today methinks. Pretty wet out there and Margaret wants to post a card!

We didn’t end up with snow, but it’s wet and miserable here again, so glad we got stuck in and got a lot done yesterday. Indoor stuff today. Our stove was still glowing when I got up, so I have tickled it back into life and we are now doing indoor stuff. Marmalade making mainly, with plenty of reading and crochet as well. There’s a good light festival on in town, but no sure of I can be bothered to be honest, it’s warm dry and cosy in here.

Oh well, it was good while it lasted, so lovely to see the sun for a while. We should have been decorating but thought we had better make the most of the fine weather and had a quick garden tidy instead. It was nice to get outside for a change. Brown bin now at least half full.
@Takethedogalong there are illuminations in York at present as well. A friend went and said we must go as it was amazing but, a bit like you, I can’t summon up the energy or enthusiasm to wander around in this weather. Next year?! Love your crochet bag, well done. I’ve tried it a few times but nothing to show for it. My late MiL was amazing at really fine crochet, she made runners and doilies, we still have many of them, really beautiful work.
Thinking of you @Goldie146, do hope things are improving for you. DIL friend had sepsis last year and, like you, she spent some weeks in hospital trying to clear the infection. Fingers crossed for you.
Valentine’s Day passed us by, as usual to be honest. We are away in April, off to Northumberland for a week, so he can make it up then!2 -
We had a beautiful (but cold) sunny day yesterday. Sadly couldn't do any work in the garden as it is far too wet and soggy out there. I daren't walk on our grass so left well alone. Back to teaming rain today - in fact we had a snow shower at lunch time but it soon turned to sleet.
We have had a very busy and enoyable week. Son and grandson from N.Ireland were over for a few days to celebrate his 50th, my birthday last week and our Diamond Wedding this week so lots of family get togethers. As my 'birthday treat' from the NI family our son and grandson took me to a lunchtime concert at St Martin's in the Fields on Friday. It was so lovely to listen to wonderful music in such a beautiful building. We also managed an hour or two in the National Gallery and lunch in The Crypt at St. Martins. A very enjoyable day. They left for home yesterday.
I hope all those that have health problems soon improve especially @Goldie146.
Helios has arrived in Peterborough Cathedral and is most impressive.

I am sure you would have preferred to spensd those 18 day elaewhere but hopefully you are being well looked after. Its intersting the wide range of conditions they can apply physio to, as I found out last year. Hopefully they will have a pathway to helping you, just grab every bit of progress you can. Take Care and Best Wishes.

My best wishes for your anniversary @milliehull hope you have another a lovely day. I sounds as if you had a grand day on Friday, what a most enjoyable present.
I hope you are soon able to be allowed home @Goldie146 once the infection has cleared.
More problems with OH's glasses, as her second new pair were nearly as bad the first pair yesterday so they too have to be remade and won't be ready for another 2 weeks. We are all ready to head off in the van in a couple of days so she will collect them when we get back when hopefully they will be right. Have booked our first site and now waiting for confirmation from the second one we hope to stop on.
We have had mixed weather today, with it starting of dry but grey, we then got caught out in a prolonged rain shower before lunchtime, then in the afternoon the sun came out and we had blue skies to end the day off.

@Goldie146 I am sure we are all wishing you well, it can take a long time, but keep going, you will get there. My Dad had Sepsis, he was a good while in hospital, but we did get him walking again, it just took time.
@milliehull lovely photos, glad you had a good time in London. We like the National Gallery, and the Portrait Gallery as well. Hoping we might get time to fit in the Scottish National Gallery while up in Edinburgh. Congrats on your birthday, and your Diamond Wedding Anniversary.
@heddlo thank you for your compliment on the bag. I am just making another now for my sister, a bit different but I am enjoying doing small projects at the moment, learning new stitches and building my confidence. I have some of my Grandma’s beautiful tray cloths, runners, etc… that are edged with intricate fine crochet. My Mum always said she couldn’t crochet, but I think my Gran must have taught her somewhere.
@nelliethehooker hope the glasses fiasco doesn’t put your next break away back. We are on countdown for our short break in Edinburgh, but have a day in Manchester first at Nat Cycling centre. Getting to Edinburgh will be a doddle compared with this.
Currently cursing Royal Mail, as no doubt a few others are😡 Ten days and counting since we last had a delivery. I have all sorts caught up in the system, including some small parcels and a new bus pass. Checked with our Transport Centre and it was sent out on 5th February, so goodness knows where it is. They are sending another to our local bus station, and I can pick it up from there. Heaven help anyone who is waiting for really urgent mail, service is not fit for purpose.

@Takethedogalong Re missing post. Sometimes our post gets delivered to our neighbour at the back of our house. they don't seem to pay much attention to mail deliveries as the other day I got two letters which were nearly a year old! Fortunately in both cases I had received the information online as well. Margaret can't understand why I prefer to do everything online. In every other respect they are wonderful neighbours.

Just catching up on the goings-on.
@nelliethehooker I'm sorry to read of your brother's stroke; hopefully by now he is on the rehab ward and doing better. As for the glasses, how annoying! We did go to Specsavers some time ago, but then also had problems with glasses not being made correctly and after that have been going to an independent optician. No problems since then, he always knocks something off the price too. Apparently he does most of his trade online now, so the shop isn't open all day. Sign of the times!
@Goldie146 I'm really sorry to read you're in hospital with sepsis; I wish you all the best and wish you a good recovery. I believe physio will help, all the best.
@Wherenext I'm very sorry to read about what happened to your OH. So totally out of the blue; it was very fortunate that you had stopped and were with someone else at the time. Good news that results of the blood tests were clear. I hope she's feeling a lot better by now. And congrats on being a Forum Participant!!
@DEBSC What a disappointment for you, not to be able to try that new tablet, although there may still be a chance once the tests have been reviewed? Unfortunately with a lot of medication, there's no "free lunch" so to speak, as risks can outweigh benefits, so it's never straightforward. All the best.
@Bakers2 Sorry to read you're still under the weather; especially with having the decorators in as well. I hope you feel better soon and can get out in the garden again, weather permitting.
@Takethedogalong Wonderful photo, well done! I used to crochet, and knit for that matter, but haven't done any for decades!
@milliehull Lovely photos! Also congrats on your Diamond Anniversary.
We've just had 5 days away; the first couple were meant to meet up with friends. But to continue on the same theme of being unwell, one of them ended up with food poisoning, so they never made it unfortunately. He is much better now fortunately, so we'll have to re-arrange. The other 3 days were spent at the Morris site in Shrewsbury. Been there before and we both really like Shrewsbury. Had a lovely day on Saturday in the glorious weather, browsing round the town, walking in the park and along the river. Back to reality yesterday morning and packing up in the rain!

Same from me re all folks illnesses and for improvements for recovery.
@Takethedogalong my late MIL used to knit, crochet also do a hard crossword and watch tv almost at the same time, I have done the basic crochet and have one blanket done many years ago and even have one made by OH's late grandmother and I have done machine knitting in the past not good with hand knitting, having a sort out of some of my costume jewellery and thought of you but will bring it all to UK in September and will donate to a charity shop or two as had a look on local website for prices but all low prices so hence rather they went to a charity shop.
We had a very bad storm and very strong winds last Wednesday night I had to have cotton wool in both ears as the noise was awful outside and then check for damage onThursday 1 old Juniper tree down which was dut to come down so will be easier to clear away some roofing on OH's big shed came loose so a temporary repair complete with an old trailer wheel to hold it down and a couple of metal poles, a few small branches off the oak trees but all ok otherwise thankfully but we have had a lot of rain since so no gardening here except some deadheading my violas and planted some small lettuce plants in my small greenhouse and they are looking good so far, the ground is very wet and slippy so care now needed to walk over the ground, but next week looks dry for about 5 days and warmer so may get some stuff done outside, have cleaned two nestboxes and back up ready for Spring.
Take care folks.

Nice to hear from you @InaD. We are trying to fit in a 3 nighter at Shrewsbury in a fortnight but depends on care cover being available. We like Shrewsbury and can always, with the camper van, stop off at somewhere like Ellesmere on the day of travel. We like eating at the Boathouse Restaurant and having a walk along the canal.
A day of rain this morning then sunshine and showers afterwards. This afternoon has been an admin day. Trying to sort out care cover, sorting out OHs motor insurance, a few emails that are owed, still a few to do.
OH still not quite with it. Unlike her normal self she's extremely tired quite early in the day. We might just stretch our legs tomorrow morning away from the village. Nothing strenuous but some fresh air and a clearing of the problems may help.

@Takethedogalong we will get away and just contact Specsavers just before we get home to book an appointment for OH to pick them up, it is not as if there has been a huge change in her prescription. Hope you have a good day at the cycling and it is not spoiled by the journey there and home again.
@InaD we will see how well they have performed with OH's replacement pairs before deciding whether to seek another opticians, as the replacement pair I received are grand. My brother has been allowed home, which I think was rather quick, but no doubt the hospital think it will help with his rehabilitation.
Sorry to read that your OH is not yet back to her normal health @Wherenext Hope you are able to get away for a few days soon. Where are you thinking of staying, back to Roden Nursery?
We are already to head off tomorrow as we have a site we have visited before booked, but not had a response from the one we had hoped to move onto, so have emailed an alternative one. We just hope this brings a rapid response, although there are more we can try. It has stayed dry for most of the day again and the forecast for tomorrow looks decent too.

Weird weather here at the moment - brilliant sunshine and a blue sky one minute - and then it clouded over, went darkish and started to sleet. Now it's sunny again! Plus we've got the bitter north-easterly wind straight off the North Sea - the 'lazy wind' - doesn't go round you - but straight through you! Nice log fire in the stove, though😀
Took Ros to the surgery this morning for a steroid injection in her 'good knee' which is giving her pain as well as her replacement one which is now coming up to 15 years old. Apparently, that can't be replaced - which surprised me - thought they could just swap the old joint for a new one - bit like changing a wheel🙄 She's feeling a bit wobbly, so that leaves me in charge of domestic matters😂.
2 -
@richardandros Sorry to hear Ros is having trouble with her knees. I think the problem with replacing, replacements is how much bone is removed in the original operation. Probably not impossible but likely major surgery? My hip is coming up to about 17 years old. My problem at the moment is how the stroke has impacted on my left leg as not only is it stiff but I am getting pain in the knee although that has been a fairly long standing problem if you will forgive the pun! It was never considered bad enough for surgery.

No @nelliethehooker we won't staying at Roden Nurseries. Want a bit of comfort so we'll probably use Morris site at Oxon Hall as their 3 for 2 still applies. Besides the last time we stayed at Roden after storms it was flooded. Need to sort that out as we've managed to secure the care cover.
We went out to the RSPB site at Burton this morning but when we got there it was closed for the day for maintenance so we went for a walk along the side of the marsh for a couple of hours. It was a lovely day for a walk, hazy sun with no wind.

@Wherenext Sorry to read that OH still not quite herself. I imagine that having had such a terrific headache, the after effects can maybe last for some time? No medical expert though, but hopefully she'll feel better soon. We took advantage of the 3for2 at Oxon Hall, which made the nightly charge quite reasonable at around 26.50 (standard pitch, not a service pitch). I hope you'll be able to get away in a couple of weeks.
@nelliethehooker It's good that your brother is back home, although you do wonder how much that is due to the fact that there is a bed shortage. But on the other hand, being at home in familiar surroundings is sometimes better. Each person is different of course and also a lot depends on the situation at home. Yes, better to wait and see what OH's glasses are like, it may be just a blip, as yours are fine. Enjoy your trip away and hope the next site on the list does reply in good time.
A lovely day today, which meant getting round to the job of starting to powerwash the driveway and side of the garage. Looks so much better, it really needed doing. Have to wait for the next decent day to carry on at the back, and the other side now.......

Grey and cold this morning but hey no rain. So I wrapped up and started gardening, soon warmed up with a bit of work. I cut the lilac, thinning it by cutting the thick trunks and branches off with the chain saw. Then some weeding along one border, but the rest is still too wet. Swept up soggy leaves from the path and noticed moss has started growing all along it, I’ll have to buy some killer while trying to avoid the plants. A much better day than this day last year when I had my op, kept thinking about it all day. To all who are under the weather or recovering, sending good wishes.
OH never cooks but he enjoys pancakes, this year I found a recipe for the batter and gave it to him, saying if you can read it you can make it. I even got out everything thats needed, scales etc. Its time he just tried to cook something, he never has. Let’s see if we get pancakes this year. Now I’m feeling a bit horrible, so I expect I’ll end up making them. It’s chocolate this year that I’m giving up for Lent. I’ve already cut the wine down to one glass a week so not worth giving that up.

Funeral for us today, next door neighbour. That took care of most of the day, but inside now in front of stove, it’s bitter cold outside after a nice sunny day. A bit of plotting and planning going on for some Spring/Summer breaks, including me commuting via trains while OH takes MH to somewhere nice.
Our three weeks worth of post was dropped off this morning, including mail for various neighbours as well😡 Of course my long overdue bus pass was in there, rendered useless as I have a second issue now on the way via our bus depot in town. We have quite a busy week of events this week, including Tubular Bells Anniversary Concert at Sheffield City Hall, and National Cycling Championships at Manchester Velodrome, then off to watch comedian Ross Noble. Haircuts for both of us as well, things are getting shaggy again……..💇💇♂️

Sorry to hear that Ros is having pain in both of her knees, @richardandros it's bu**er getting old!!😁
Good to read that you were able to get out for a decent walk this morning @Wherenext I am sure you both feel better for it. Hope you are able to sort out a stay away.
It sounds as if you had an industrious day @InaD and looking at the forecast you might just get the rest of the powerwashing done tomorrow.
The day started with blue skies and no wind although it did turn hazy as the day progressed. We had an easy tow down to Cheshire this morning and after pitching up we took a walk along the Whitegate Way while the van warmed up. We are here for 5 nights before hopefully heading to a new to us CL on an airfield, another new experience, just waiting for confirmation in the morning. We have had no response to both a phone call and email from our first choice of site so that's another crossed off the list! What a way to run a business!!🤔

Had a lovely warm and sunny day 16.2C gosh it felt warm outside and have got some daffs out and see two different butterflies so Spring is on the way, went shopping yesterday to Villefranche and on the way back called into our local Pharmacie for OH to get some meds and then we both had the Pneumonia jabs which also had Meningitis and Sepsis included and OH was ok but I had a very sore upper arm but getting better today but still some soreness so could not do any gardening but do a few things outside using right arm only so hope arm improves as I would like to get outside for some pruning on Friday as weather going wet and windy tonight and Thursday and then a few dry warm sunny days and could get to 21C phew.
Hope folks are improving health wise.
Hoping to get away in May and June with the caravan as most sites do not open until May onwards, have a 5 day break in a friends gite where we have been before and UK visit in late September in 2 different cottages in North Devon and Mid Devon so looking forward to that.

Went to the dentist today to have a filling replaced plus the hygienist. First time I have had a dental anesthetic since my stroke. A somewhat odd sensation as I already suffer from mild numbness due to the stroke. At least it also numbed the sensation of having the teeth cleaned. Margaret only had the hygienist but the bill was still over £400 for both of us, what with the new glasses a couple of weeks ago its been quite an expensive few weeks. At least I don't have to worry about campsite fees😊
David

@DavidKlyne How much!! We were gobsmacked at this David. Obviously for 2 of you but even so. I had the start of my crown fitting yesterday at the Dentist, it was a 1 hour appointment (I still have jaw ache!) while she did the root canal stuff and I have a temporary crown while the correct one is being made. This will cost me about £326.70 - NHS. We must be lucky, mind you I’m glad we aren't both requiring crowns! Also she will do the hygienist part at my fitting appointment in 2 weeks time.
@Oneputt love the picture. Caught beautifully!

Well a different day today 9.2C with heavy rain and very strong winds as Storm Pedro go towards the east of France had enough of strong winds now, so inside chores sort out what was under the bed all done and clean now and more stuff for Emmaus our main charity large shop in Cahors, OH has booked a couple medical appointments on line in the next few month and got me an eye test in April as we have to have one every two years then go to the opticians to sort glasses out a bit different to UK.
Arm better today thankfully and can now sleep on the arm so a better nights sleep, just hope we get the dry weather promised so I can do some pruning outside as it needs to be done.

@heddlo To be honest I have never really checked out the competetion. We have been using this Practise since we arrived in MK in 1979, its long been a private practise, although it is now owned by different people. Like elsewhere in the country its as difficult to find an NHS dentist. It is a lot of money but if we had something like Denplan I suspect we would end paying almost as much as paying on an ad hoc basis. I am not sure there is an easy answer. MK continues to grow on an annual basis and I expect its only private dentist that in the main set up in the City?
David
0 -
@DavidKlyne I know what you mean about finding an NHS dentist. We were so lucky with our present one. When we moved here in 2010 we looked at continuing with Denplan as we had in Bedford but the dentist here wanted almost double the fee we paid previously, so we left it. On looking for NHS dentist in the area, the next village had a new practice just starting up and we were very lucky to be able to get in there, we wouldn’t stand a chance now with how much everything has expanded! Not over keen on the dentist herself, no bedside manner at all, but professionally she’s fine and that’s the important part.
