@Goldie146 so sorry to hear that you have been so poorly. Good that you were able to recognise the symptoms get help. I do know sepsis can take a while to recover from. Very best wishes for your recovery, fingers crossed for you.

Blinking heck😳 Sorry to hear just how many folks are having health issues. @Goldie146 dreadful experience for you, but well done on spotting the signs and I hope you are getting the help and care you need. It’s a long haul back is the route from Sepsis.

Hoping OH is getting the care she needs as well @Wherenext I know just how complicated this scenario will be for you all, and hoping you can get a good solution that will ease the stress for you all.

Kind regards to others as well, either in recovery, awaiting medical treatment, or helping others get through a rough time. We are having thrice weekly visits from District Nurses and other special nurses at Mum’s at the moment, plus Sis is having treatment for a bad leg wound, so it’s a full diary of appointments here, health visitors there. In the midst of the mayhem, our kind, caring Council have decided Mum no longer needs an assisted bin collection (97 years young in a couple of weeks, bedridden, not to sure what planet she is on, never mind what a bin is😡). On the plus side, we are both doing ok thankfully. Got up to a cold house though, fault on boiler, thankfully easily rectified, just needed water re pressurising, haven’t had that happen for a very long time. We currently have no rain here, hoping to get round garden to see what’s coming up, what’s drowning😳

The decorators have left. Looks like a great job. They even vac'd after themselves before they left. Builder back, he popped in after painful expensive dental visit, more to come 🫣🫣, shortly to put the cornice on top of the units, no room for dust 😉 and put the doors back on the pantry and boiler cupboard when their new architraves are completely dry.

RReally really grey here, wished I had the energy to start but I don't and anyway the paint is wet so I think that calls for a very restful afternoon. Dora can now to go back to 'normal' duties and not constantly 'on guard' 🤣

@Goldie146 - hope you are soon feeling better, although I suspect it will be a long road. How lucky you were having your son there - and that he acted so promptly - which is crucial with sepsis. Get well soon😀

Good news re the decorators @Bakers2 and I hope you soon feel better soon as well. As you say, at least you'll now be able to relax. When we had our builders here - for 7 weeks - although they were friends, it was a relief to see the back of them and have our home to ourselves again.

How is OH doing @Wherenext ? - hope she's feeling a bit better as well.

Had a bit of a wasted day, today - but it's helped me make a decision that I'd almost made on Tuesday. We were waiting for a surveyor to give us a quote for the stairlift - from the company most highly rated by "Which". To cut a long story short, he didn't turn up and it turned out to be a mistake on the part of the call centre. Profuse apologies from them, of course - but I told them they'd lost a sale. I've also cancelled to planned visit from another firm on Monday because I know they charge extortionate prices for much the same bit of kit as anyone else - but I included them because they are sort of regarded as the 'industry standard'.

So that leaves me with the one who visited on Tuesday - a 'local' firm in Huddersfield. Was most impressed with their model anyway - much less intrusive and neater than most others. Managed to haggle and get a good deal - so that's it - all sorted😀.

Just come in from a few hours gardening. My is it wet. Plenty of stuff coming up though, but I do think some stuff is way too early, it’s this warmer Winters. Even found a rose out in bloom. Made a start anyway, and it was nice to get out. Rain stopped play though. Finishing off my first ever crochet item this afternoon…….

@Wherenext I do hope you and OH have had positive news from the doctor. You must both be exhausted. Thinking of you both.

When I said OH had had all of the tests I was wrong. They decided to do a Lumber Puncture to see if there was any bleed in the brain. She was guinea pig for a first time stabber, under supervision thankfully. So she's had a full MoT. They think it's either a reaction to the new medication or she's contrary. Close call.

    We're both home now.

@Wherenext really sorry to hear about OH but pleased to hear the MOT for her came back clear. A bit worrying for you both. We all just need some better weather for a week or two, I’m pretty sure that would help.

@Bakers2 good to hear decorators have finished. You will be pleased to get your house cleaned and tidied up, well, when you feel better you can start! Take care. We are just about to start our dining room, OH is never happy unless he does his own decorating so we are lucky he can still do it, long may it last.

@richardandros pleased to hear you have a stairlift sorted. Our neighbour has one, no idea of the name or make, but it’s really neat against the wall, hardly noticeable really.

Sorry to hear that @Goldie146 a very nasty experience. Thank goodness it was spotted and treated as such. A lot about it in the press recently, bad enough but terrible if the medics don’t realise what it is and don’t treat it quickly. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Best wishes to everyone going through this that and the other at the moment. So much illness about.

I spent some time with the oncology Dr this morning, she was very thorough and explained everything without rushing. Seems there is a new tablet out there, given the go ahead last November, which they thought would suit me and I admit would give me more peace of mind. However, over half way through the appointment she looked into the medical history of my heart and then a recent ECG was brought up. At this point she changed her mind saying it would be too dangerous for my heart. After some discussion another ECG was quickly arranged, she will look at it and then discuss with other medics but it’s looking unlikely I’ll now get this tablet. I’m very keen but OH, who was with me, thinks it’s not worth the risk. But not our decision anyway. She is referring me back to the surgical team for a few issues I’m having. Rather disappointed about the tablet though. We just got home and a phone call from our daughter to say she was in A&E resus with our granddaughter again as she’d been rushed in. We must have all been there at the same time. Our granddaughter is being treated now but may be let home tonight. Thank goodness for the NHS.

Good to hear that your OH has been allowed home after her tests and there appears to no major reason for concern @Wherenext Hope you are both able to get a good night's rest tonight.

Thank goodness for your son's prompt actions @Goldie146 and that the infection was caught when it was. All the best for your recovery.

Pleased to hear that virtually all the work in the house is completed @Bakers2 I guess you will be mightily relieved.

@richardandros it is good to hear that you are sorted out with your stair lift, you will now just have to wait for it being installed now.

I hope you get sorted out with your medication @DEBSC , it is a shame that you are unable to have the new tablets, also that your granddaughter is able to get home this evening.

Once again we have had rain in the late afternoon after a mainly dry day, good enough to get the washing nearly completely dried outside.

We did wonder about a stairlift when I first had my stroke. As the weeks went by It was becoming clear I should be able to climb the stairs, if fact much of my physio training was going up and down quite a steep set of stairs. The NHS arranged for extra stair rails at home which made it easier for me. Our original concern was that all our toilets are upstairs so it wasn't really an option not to be able to get up to the bedroom/bathroom floor. Our stairs are not particularly generously spaced so I think a stair lift might have made less easy for able bodied people to go upstairs, particularly as the stairs exit onto a fairly narrow landing at the top.I am sure the clever people that design chair lifts would be able to get round that but it just seemed another reason to either delay or not bother. A neighbour with the same style house has made attempts to have a stairlift installed but was never happy with it. In a way I am glad we didn't. Fortunately I have been managing quite well going up and down stairs albeit quite slowly. As I was typing this in my office upstairs the door bell rung, no doubt a stair lift would have got me down quicker!

As an aside is anyone else watching the Winter Olympics? Good that it is in Europe so no major time difference.

@Goldie146 sorry to hear of your illness, hope your recovery progresses well. Everyone else under the weather we are thinking of you.

Got the caravan back on Wednesday, unfortunately we have damp on the nearside, six months out of warranty so another big bill coming our way. Hope on the horizon though, booked our first trip this year at the end of this month.

The garden is starting to look better with all the snowdrops, daffodils, primulas and crocus in bloom

@DavidKlyne - David, the one I have decided to go for is from a company called 'Bespoke Stairlifts' - based in Bradford and Huddersfield. We wanted something that was reasonably discreet and this one has the slimmest profile, when folded up at the bottom of the stairs of any on the market - only 12". Their rack and pinion track is also the slimmest and is 'dry' - as opposed to all others that are oiled - meaning it won't attract dust / dirt which I see as advantageous. It's also reasonably quick, whereas some I have seen have been frustratingly slow.

I'm having to accept that it's not just my arthritis that's causing me problems but I am also getting increasingly short of breath because of my heart problems - so I'm hoping this will help on both counts.

Never thought I would get enthusiastic about something like this - but needs must, I'm afraid😀!

Sorry to hear about the damp problems @Oneputt - perhaps it might not be as bad as you fear - let's hope so - and enjoy your trip away. We still haven't got anything booked until Easter and with weather as it is at the moment, it's difficult to get motivated to book something.

@richardandros yes I fully undestand your position and can see how useful a stairlift would be to you. Whilst my left leg does not have full feeling in it and the left knee is quite stiff, I can fortunately still manage to climb stairs, albeit slowly, without other adverse effects so I suppose I am lucky that a stairlift is still optional. It was just one of the many things we thought we might need when I eventually got home, along with a long list of other things! So its interesting hearing the experience of others for future reference. I suppose things have turned out slightly better than first thought. I still don't know how far I can walk under my own steam but hopefully in the better weather I can put that to the test?

Both of us feel a lot better after a full 12 hour sleep. It transpires that matters could have been worse as OH had what was described to her as a Thunderclap Headache which in about 25% of cases is a result of a bleed in the brain. She was seen by a medic too late in the hospital to have it diagnosed on a CT scan hence having to have a Lumbar Puncture as the blood seeps into the spinal column. Fortunately it was clear. There was nothing else in her blood results that would indicate a cause that could be identified as producing the sudden onslaught of it so we just have to vigilant and at least we know if it happens again that a CT scan will need to be done urgently.

Like @DEBSC mentioned in a recent post the NHS staff where excellent when they got to see her but she still had a 13 hour delay in getting in front of a doctor from setting foot in A&E, something which seems most people on here can relate to with their own A&E (except @nelliethehooker who seems to have a different NHS to the rest of us😂).

I hope @Goldie146 is making some improvement. Now that is scary!

@Wherenext good to hear you are both doing ok now, but very worrying for you, and as you say future vigilance necessary. In fact, god forbid anything does happen again, but go straight to 999 for an ambulance, as they do prioritise ambulances in A&E. It might sound a bit selfish, but sadly there’s an awful lot of “don’t really need to be in A&E” cases clogging up the waiting at times, and anything heart attack, stroke, severe bleeding does need to get priority over a lot of other things. My OH is only here now because an ambulance turned up minutes after my call, and took around 10 minutes to get him to a hospital seven miles away. I was onboard and boy was it flying, enough to have me actually throwing up, which was rather embarrassing😩

What you really need is “Forum Participant Trusted” No idea how you are granted this🤭

At last we have a medal, and a good one at that, at the Winter Olympics @DavidKlyne with an emphatic victory by Matt Weston on the Skeleton Bob. Hopefully we will have a few more before the Games end.

Very pleased to read that both you and your OH are feeling better @Wherenext It was just a shame that it took so long for her to be seen by a doctor at the hospital. I know that so far I have had very prompt treatment at our local hospital but I have not, thankfully, had to try out our A&E dept. I am sure you will be keeping a close watch on how she is feeling just in case she should suffer another similar occurrence.

Sorry to hear of the problem with your caravan @Oneputt I hope that it is not an expensive or time consuming fix. Enjoy your trip away.

That's a fine looking bag @Takethedogalong yet another skill to tie to your bow!!

We had the odd flake of wet snow this morning but not even enough to register on the grass, and the day gradually improved until the sun came out around 4:00 and there was a red sky as the sun went down.

LLikewise Here. I wish I felt well enough 😢. I have managed to put, with help, 2 pairs of eyelet curtains back up. Now need to sit the the sun in the lounge. Might venture another task if I recharge well 🤣

Beautiful sun is just showing up how much needs doing. I didn't even clean the windows before rehanging the curtains 🫣🫣🫣🫣. Standards are dropping!

I love your bag @takethedogalong. Quite fancy doing something similar not necessarily crochet, but I need another bag like we need more rain currently.....

Sunny here in MK today, only warm if sheltered. I did sit on the garden bebch for 5 minutes basking in the rays. Managed to gather up some of the leaves that had accumulated down the side of the house along the pavement border. Have to be careful I don't over do it as I risk ending up on my backside! Number one son came over. He managed to replace an outside light bulb which had started to flash before it gave up the ghost. He also tried to mend a curtain rail but I think we need a drill that can cut into the lintal above the windon. In the meantime I might investigate a blind that twists and fits. Sadly the plaster work in this house has never been good but it would be such a big job to have all the upstairs rooms replasterd I have never be brave enough to set it in motion.

I have been outside for six whole hours today, we even had lunch (hot soup) sat on our terrace. Best pick me up known to this woman. Even OH came out and got stuck in rather than heading into garage. Garden looking so much better now, and it’s brilliant seeing all the bulbs coming along. Tomorrow? Forecast is for snow😳 At the very best heavy rain. Oh well, it was lovely while it lasted.

Just seen our local news. 40 years on, SY Police have finally caught up with someone who was long suspected of carrying out a rape. As young women, starting out in our careers, we had to tolerate this person around us, as there just wasn’t enough evidence at the time. We were all very wary. Justice has finally been done.

Hope you are soon feeling fit enough to get those essential jobs done @Bakers2

That's some going @Takethedogalong you must have got a lot done in that amount of time in the garden, well done.

We went into town this morning for OH to pick up one of the pair of new glasses from Specsavers, the second pair not being ready. When she tried them on they were not right, and it turned out that they had not been properly lined up when fitted at the time of purchase. So it will be another couple of weeks before they are ready. That is both of us that have had problems this time round with Specsavers, perhaps it will be time for a change of opticians next time around.Sent

After a hard frost overnight resulting in the car's windscreen being iced over we too started off the day with a cloudless blue sky and no wind, but by lunchtime it had clouded over and we even had a spot of rain this afternoon.

@Takethedogalong Im so jealous, really wanting to get out there and make a start, but just too wet. Yesterday we did see a strange ball in the sky, from memory I think it was called the sun. However, our Son and DIL were staying the day so I couldn’t garden and the end of the garden is still waterlogged. I have been out there and mentally logged all the work that I need to do once it dries a bit. A very long list. It’s so frustrating. Grey and raining today.

I had to buy a new pair of walking boots yesterday, I’ve simply ‘lost’ mine somewhere. I’ve been right through the garage, the cupboards and the car but no sign, goodness knows how they’ve gone missing. I liked them as well. Now I’ve bought more they will probably turn up.
