Belated eye tests for us both today, probably a year late! Anyway new glasses for both of us, so not much change out of a £1000. We both wear varofocal glasses hense the cost, particularly as Margaret like a light weight lens, also doesn't pay to go for cheap with that sort of lens.. At least we took advantage of the two for one free offer so Margaret got reading glasses and I got a pair for screen work. Found the CMK Shopping Centre a bit intimidating but managed OK. Still find walking in crowded places a bit difficult as I really have to concentrate.

Great photos of snowdrops and of Whitby @Takethedogalong and @heddlo. We just love Thirsk such a lovely little town and we have been in the Herriot museum a couple of times. We love York as well but so far away from us though. Good job you posted about the glasses @DavidKlyne I was supposed to pick my new ones up last week but I totally forgot about it until I read your post.

Can’t find the pot of paint to touch the dining room up, maybe we used it all. So I’ll have to repaint the 3 walls, went to Wicks today and bought some tester pots, the colour inside them is nothing like the colour on the labels. I’ll have to try again but keep buying tester pots isn’t cheap.

Funny you say that @DEBSC about tester pots as we had the same experience last year. Also had it with the big pots of paint where the colour didn't quite match the tester or the colour on the front. OH likes to paint and knows her colours, especially the pigmentation of them (a bit nerdish occasionally) but I had to agree with her so we may need to repaint in Summer, whenever that arrives.

Are you just using the three pronged stick @DavidKlyne? You may find a Rollator of some sort will help, firstly for balance and secondly it keeps people further away from you.

Lovely photos @Takethedogalong and @heddlo. A bit jealous as the weather over here has been dreadful.

Busy day today. We had a new carpet delivered at 8.30, for the old craft room, food shopping afterwards for me whilst OH started sifting through her artists materials and drawers as she's moving down to the craft room. It will give her more space. That's taken up a good deal of both of our time.

Weather still cold, wet and miserable.

Weather is cold dark and miserable here as well today, so we dropped really lucky with Sat and Sun. Piles of washing done today, OH did all of it as I have been at Mums most of day. We are on a wood restock run tomorrow hopefully. First we have bought in for a couple of years.

I have finally cracked being able to crochet, after fiddling around a few times. Only simple stuff at the moment, and I still ain’t sure how to read a pattern, but it’s recognisably a shape rather than a tangle, so I guess that’s progress😂

Thank you for the birthday wishes. It's not until Thursday, but we had a lovely meal. I was given a huge badge that could stand too, so that was discreetly displayed. And a lovely Bluey cake with a single candle.

The staff retained the box, and when I collected it, the young girl said "Bluey"? Yes I said just what I wanted... her face was a picture. I said it was chosen by my eldest grandson - so it special. Not what teens would want 🫣🤣 NZ lot thought it was a scream.

II'll Be celebrating a bit everyday. Better than sorting kitchen 🫣🤔

EEdit If the Candlemas rhyme is right winter should be over...... Another dull grey damp then mizzle day, similar to yesterday. Harrumph

@Wherenext yes I am still using a three pronged stick (I have three of them of different sizes!) I do also have rollator but haven't used it much yet, probable will in the better weather? Having said that when I have used them in past I don't really take to them as I prefer to walk, my eventual aim is to get back to an ordinary walking stick but that could take some time. Another issue with the rollator is that we are using a lot of taxi's so having to fold causes further issues. It's a fairly big rollator as I didn't really feel safe using smaller light weight ones. I think I am still in the experimentle stage as to what is best. Walking is more natural so I will continue to work on that. We have to pick the glasses up next week so we know now where the best place for the taxi to drop us off and get to Boots. Having said all that I felt that today was a bit of a milestone, even if my knee does now hurt!

@DavidKlyne by coincidence I was at Specsavers this morning, to pick up my replacement pair of new glasses, which appear to be a great improvement in the original pair I got before Christmas. It has been another dry, but cold, day here similar to yesterday.

Fine photos @Takethedogalong and pleased to read that you both a grand weekend away.

A lovely display of Snowdrops at Burton Agnes, they put the spread in our local park to shame @heddlo

Nathan’s 5th birthday celebrations went very well, the soft play on the Saturday was voted very good, and yesterday he had 20 relatives at the family gathering for snacks, coffee and cake. Cake was excellent as always, this year it was Stitch on the cake.

Got the Touareg back this afternoon, 2 buses to the garage went smoothly this time, and it was sunny for a change. Bill not quite as bad as feared, just over £ 1000, £300 odd for parts, then labour and VAT. Next we need to get the Infotainment system replaced.

Happy birthday @Bakers2 and @milliehull. Thanks for sharing the photos @Takethedogalong and @heddlo.

It's not been a good start to the year for us, and this week has been no exception..... [warning: please feel free to skip the rest of this post... it's a bit long...and this is the short version!!!]

We thought we'd take the caravan out for a few nights, really just to give things a bit of an 'air', to Conkers C&CC site - only around 25min from home - one of our closest sites and relatively easy for us to get to. Picked up the caravan from storeage Sunday lunchtime. Just as we'd got the van hitched up and ready to go, we get a call to say Carol's 94 year old mum (who still lives on her own) had had a suspected stroke. I dropped Carol off back at home (caravan in tow) to pick up the 'small car' so that she could drive over to Wolverhampton.... meanwhile I continued on and took the caravan to Conkers, as planned.

Got to Conkers, couldn't get the motormover to work on the caravan. Eventually got on to the pitch. We use mainly serviced pitches these days, but no serviced pitches at Conkers..... Our aquaroll is permanently set up with the centre valve for water hook-up, so it involved me taking out the valve and replacing it with the screw on cap!! Couldn't find the screw-on cap! Quick journey back home to look for cap. Still no cap, so ordered a couple of new ones off Amazon to arrive Monday....

Meanwhile, Carol stayed over at hospital with her mum (who seems to be making progress). 5.55am Monday morning, I leave Conkers for home to look after grandchildren (before school) and take them to school. (Pre-arranged, as son and DIL had to start an early journey go to a funeral in Reading). Back to Conkers.... then back home to pick-up grandchildren and look after until parents arrive back from Reading... and to wait for aquaroll caps!! Got back to Conkers (caps in hand) at around 7pm. Set up water... Carol arrives back at caravan around 8pm. Both managed to sleep-in until around 10am this morning....

Now we'll see what today brings!! 😀

Oh @DSB I do hope things settle down and that your MIL is OK.

I've just read back my post, typed whilst I was out in the fields. It was meant to be sarcastic about the weather. But unless you knew we've been under thick cloud for so long you wouldn't realise only the wind had changed. From cool to bitterly cold.

I'm taking it very easy today as I'm feeling under the weather. Probably the heavy grey cloud 😕. I have an appointment this afternoon but that will be the complete total of my activities!

@heddlo delighted to hear your NZ friend is OK.

@DSB dont forget to look after yourself as well, hope things improve for you.

It’s an awful dull and very cold day here as well, but at least it is dry at the moment. We have been out for a walk, then called to get some firewood from a local farm, back home with stove lit now having a late lunch. More exercise post lunch as we need to empty car and stack wood, but it’s always nice to see wood shed well stocked.

Don't apologise @Bakers2 - it's the same here - so I assumed everyone was getting the same. The wind is coming straight off the sea - and as you say - it's freezing. It was only 2.5 degrees when I took Meg out this morning but with the wind chill it was well below that. First thing I did when I got back was light the wood-burner😀.

David - @DSB - just take it steady - sounds as if you have had a pretty traumatic couple of days. Hope MiL is OK and that you two are coping. I was a bit surprised about the Aquaroll caps. Ours have a ring that goes around the filler so they are more or less permanently attached. I thought they were all like that. Hope you now manage to relax a bit although I suspect you'll still be dashing backwards and forwards to hospital. Take care.

@Takethedogalong - yes it is satisfying to look at a full wood store. We usually have about 2 tonnes delivered at a time - which is why it took me best part of three hours to stack them - but it's good when it's done. I keep asking the supplier if they do a stacking service🤔- now that would be great but it ain't going to happen!

    Thanks @Bakers2 and @Takethedogalong.

We've just decided to get away from everyone today... 😀😀 Popped up to the garden centre at Staunton Harold for a quick drink and cake. [Incidentally, Staunton is close to Melbourne, which, I think is where Johnny Vegas set up his glamping pods... 😀]

    Now some shopping!!

-re aquaroll caps: Yes, Richard.... I'm sure ours had a 'retaining band', but I have a feeling it broke at one point, never to be replaced!!! - until now. The replacements from Amazon work fine. They came as a pack of 2, so I now have a spare. Of course, now I have a spare, I will never, ever need it..... until I Iose it or 'lend it' to someone..... 🤣🤣

MIL is still in hospital... they are just monitoring her at present. We'll go over again tomorrow, but she has two other daughters who are with her today....

Sorry to hear your news @DSB and hope things improve and take care yourself.

Well we have had sunshine all day after some heavy rain last night and it got to 15.1C so felt warm after the wet spell but rain on the forecast again from tomorrow evening, got washing done and mopped the floors throughout except bedroom as Laminate flooring in there and OH was outside doing a small repair to the kitchen window shutter and he said gosh not used to this warmth and bright sunshine.

Off shopping tomorrow to Villefranche and OH needs to collect some meds from the Pharmacie on the way back home.

Sorry to hear that your MIL is in hospital and hope that she is not in there over long @DSB. You certainly appear to have been through the mill since Christmas, take care to look after yourself.

I guess you are relieved to get your car back @KjellNN even if it was a rather expensive experience. At least now you can concentrate of sorting out that tour.

It too has bitterly cold here, with a strong wind blowing from the east. I had a run to the recycling centre this morning with mainly garden rubbish and the car's thermometer was reading 4C but it felt much colder than the that out in the wind. We had a follow up phone call from Flyte's vet checking that the steroids had worked, which they had. Our veterinary practice is still in private hands, I wonder how many of the corporate vet practices do that?

Thanks @nelliethehooker and @RedKite. Glad to hear the steroids seem to be working for Flyte, Nellie. I wished it was 15° here, @RedKite - it says 2° here, but I think it's colder... we've even had a few flakes of snow this evening!! Nice and warm in the caravan though - it must be warm in here - just had some Ben and Jerry's ice cream.. 🤣🤣

Love the jigsaw. Had to chuckle at the cut down tree representing Sheffield (bottom border of jigsaw), serves those dim witted decision makers right😂 There’s lots of slightly obscure references on there as well, Pontefract Cakes, Sculpture Park, Cathy and Heathcliffe, and one of the cyclists looks like Marcel Kittel winning Stage 1 of TdeF in Harrogate😂 Ilkley Moor is to the wrong side of Skipton though😳

@Takethedogalong 😂😆. Yes some of the geography is very approximate! We laughed at Ribblehead viaduct being next to Knaresborough and east of Malham Cove. I think the ‘tree’ at the bottom is actually a bunch of rhubarb! Which is also wrong for the rhubarb triangle. Hey, ho it’s a gesture to Yorkshire in general I suppose. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Funnily enough I was perusing a jigsaw website this morning over coffee and nearly ordered one made by the same people as yours @heddlo for Wales but ordered another one like the one of Staithes. You've done a grand job.

Have to do something as the weather continues to thwart any thought of going away in the van, or even for a walk. Garden has multiple puddles on it, even the resident mole has water wings on.

Hope one and all safe from this continual cycle.

Smashing jigsaw, @heddlo well done in completing it.

It has been bitterly cold here today in the wind, dry in the morning but we had a bit of sleet in the rain after lunch and Flyte and I got rather wet. Not a good day for getting a major outside job done unfortunately, still there is always tomorrow. Off now to watch the first match of the 6 Nations....come on Ireland!😄

Early start to take my car for MOT, garage is about 2 miles away so I was quite looking forward to an early morning walk back home. I woke up to heavy rain. OH said he would pick me up but just as I was leaving it stopped. Walked back along the main road but with a lovely view of the river estuary, Saunton sands in the distance and Chivenor air base, across the other side of the river. Then the wind turbines on the hill. I never forget how fortunate we are to live here. Sometimes it feels like we are cut off from the world, which I quite like. Passed a very large detached house, which has been covered in scaffold and white wraps for about 18 months now, seems the buyers are renovating it from top to bottom - it was quite nice before. My friend lives a couple of doors down from it and I recently asked her if they didn’t need to move in soon. She laughed, seems her OH was speaking with the new owner on a rare visit. He said that they had bought it as a holiday home, he works in the city and mentioned that he had bought the property with his bonus! How the other half live. Just hoping that my car gets through the MOT with nothing needed.
