Just home from our first classic car show of the year. Took my classic Mercedes’ unfortunately not the weather for the roof down but a good day anyway was only in Coatbridge so not too far from home . Lots of lovely cars on display. Great to be back at the shows again

Beautiful day here in MK. We had some cards to post so we both walked down to the post box, Margaret only using one crutch. Whilst it wasn't a long walk neither was it short so I think she did rather well. She was concerned about the lack of smoothness in some of the pavements! We came back via the next door estate as last week we could hear a lot of shouting and banging to discover one house completely encased in scaffolding. Even had a roof shelter on so no idea what they are doing?

Thought I would post my latest Jigsaw, a more traditional design. I was attracted by the Morris Minor as our first car was a Morris Traveller, and the same colour, circa probably 1970/71 when we got it?

Glad you had a couple of good days to walking @Wherenext and enjoyed your time away. Grand photos too.

tda, it was Paralympian Sophie Wells, a Lincolnshire horse rider, for whom the post box was painted gold in honour of her team gold and two individual silver medals.

@Amesford that is a good idea, contacting Truma, I will contact Powertouch and see if they can point me in the right direction of where to grease ours. Thanks for the idea.

A rather dull start to the day but it brighten up later, although the wind was again quite chilly. Did lots of bits and pieces getting ready for the off, painted another doorway, some weed extraction, hoovered out the car etc in between walks with Flyte.

SStuff Of nightmares....... I was horrified at the photos. Almost 3 years and it's still trying 😡😡😡😡. On the plus side I can zap it with the heat gun as its spotted. 4 layers of weed suppressant and thick layer of bark keeping the bulk away 🤞.

    @richardandros that looks idyllic.

We must live our life as circumstances dictate. We rarely get out for a day now let alone a few days 😪. However I'm grateful for all the years we did our gallivanting. I love seeing what others are up to. But as I say most, if not all of the time 😉, I'm happy to wake up beside rather than without.

I'm looking forward to a day like that! It's what I miss most about the motorhome - switching off. Once the full but minimal chores are done its easy to relax. Much harder if you notice things need doing indoors or outdoors 🤣🤣🤣

That does look good @richardandros - enjoy. Yes I agree with you about the switching off @Bakers2 it was so much easier when away in our caravan. Seeing @Cornersteady photos of Troutbeck was a lovely memory though, it was always our favourite site. I say that but I really don’t regret selling it when we did as I don’t miss the getting ready or the sorting out after a trip, or the hassle of things going wrong with it! I would love to switch off just now as our decorating is going on sooooo…. long, hopefully today should be a putting everything back day so it may be better tomorrow and we can enjoy some outside time.

@richardandros That's a lovely photo and looks a brilliant site, idyllic.

@Wherenext Lovely photos and the walks you did sound wonderful; glad you had a good few days away.

@DavidKlyne Margaret is doing the same as I am: walking with 1 crutch 😁 Since having the stitches out, I have also been brave enough to try walking without crutches at home, and now don't use any at home. But not confident enough yet to do without outside. I know what Margaret means about uneven pavements etc. Somtimes the crutch will catch on something, that's slightly raised, you do have to be careful outside. Lovely jigsaw! I've been given 3 jigsaws to do, to occupy myself whilst not going out as much or as far as usual, just started on 1 of them.

@heddlo I hope today will indeed be the end of the decorating and putting everything back; you'll have to get out there tomorrow and enjoy the good weather!

Hospital appointment this morning! Out of all the hospital appointment, I reckon this is the only one I actually dislike.... Opthalmology - the pressure tests and eye drops!! 🙂 Oh well!! - here goes...

I agree with both @heddlo and @Bakers2 That looks really idyllic @richardandros. I used to love really switching off when away with the caravan. It was a lovely feeling to wake up every morning and think that there was nothing I really had to do but I also agree that I don't miss the getting ready and sorting out at the end of the trip and I also got to the stage that I couldn't cope when things went wrong. We enjoy our short breaks going away to various static caravans now.

I have had an absolutely streaming cold this weekend with constant sneezing fits and although trivial compared to what others are having to go through I have felt really sorry for myself. It is not at all like me to get a cold. Not sneezing quite so much this morning so hopefully it is on it's way out.

Good luck with the ophthalmology appt @DSB

Manic doesn't begin to describe this morning.

Getting back from our few days away we knew we had some workmen to ring and other appointments to make so first thing we rang the Electrician, Plumber, Care Provider Company, GPs and Opticians. Electrician was here in 20 minutes, Plumber here now, GP sorted for a phone call later this week, Carers been for a visit and Opticians arranged for tomorrow. Sitting at the computer yesterday I sneezed into a hanky. My glasses flew off my face but one of its arms stayed put on my ear!😡🤣 It's the third time one of the arms has broken in 5 years and they did recommend new specs when I saw them earlier this year so it's going to cost a pretty penny.

Colds are debilitating @milliehull. Best wishes for your recovery.

ps Sorry @Bakers2. Forgot about your battle with the little blighters but they did make a spectacle when passing them on Saturday.

@richardandros that looks very relaxed. I agree with others, I love gardening but when I sit down to enjoy my hard work I always see something else that needs doing. When away you just don’t keep looking at it. @milliehull, summer colds always seem worse than winter ones, hope you feel better soon. @DavidKlyne @InaD - both you and Margaret seem to be making good progress with the walking, good time of year to be walking outside. Lovely weather here, so a bit more gardening today.

@richardandros I know what you mean about very special, quiet places. We have some places we go back to time after time, usually find ourselves with no neighbours, or very few, and it’s a different touring World when you do. We have a double whammy at the moment, caring for Mum, and now our very elderly pooch. Even a day out is difficult at the moment. Hence why I am trying to create a little bit of garden heaven at home. Get up each day just hoping we can keep our fitness and health enough to get back out there at some point.

@Takethedogalong the post box toppers are not just a Yorkshire thing. The Oundle Bombers put them on the post boxes as well. They also did some wonderful displays both for the Queen's Jubilee and the King's coronation. Quite a few of the villages in Norfolk have them as well. I have a feeling that they wouldn't last long in this area ☹️

Nice to see Ros and Meg enjoying a relaxing time in the sunshine @richardandros , it looks much sunnier than the weather we had yesterday.

Hope you soon get over your cold @milliehull , it is most annoying when one catches it when the weather is so fine. I must admit that I don't mind both the preparation for a trip and the sorting out of the caravan when we return home, probably because I know it won't be long before we hit the road again. OH does have a problem though with all the washing that she has to do, especially if the weather is unfavourable!

You did well getting an electrician and a plumber to come as soon as they did these days, @Wherenext and that you managed to fix up the other appointments too.

I hope that you were able to complete your decorating, @heddlo and that you managed to get things back in place.

It has been another full and rather cool day for the most part although it did brighten up late in the afternoon. We were able to get away as planned and it took just 5 mins less than the last time we came to this CL, the first stop on our latest trip. There are two other regular, long stay, caravans on the site, one here for 28 days and the other that stays for a few weeks at a time between touring trips throughout Scotland. it is supposed to be sunny and warmer tomorrow so we might head down to the coast.

@Wherenext - what a day you had!! Certainly a case of "it doesn't rain - but it pours"!! @InaD - you sound to be getting on very well - keep it up - you might even be competing in next year's London Marathon at this rate😂 - and @milliehull - hope your cold soon clears up. Ros and I have both had the sniffles over the last couple of days but I suspect it's to do with the pollen count although I've never suffered with hayfever before.

Pleased that everyone seemed to enjoy my picture of Thornthorpe and I feel a little less guilty now about just relaxing in the sunshine🙂 It certainly is a lovely peaceful spot - with the little stream babbling away along the bottom of the orchard. Just so nice not to have to do anything as one would at home. All change tomorrow, though as our stay here comes to an end after 17 nights and we head back to reality!

Had an interesting experience when we returned to site, yesterday afternoon. Drove back towards the van and saw what appeared to be a bird jumping up and down on another one - just to the left of where Ros was sitting in that last photo. Soon realised it was a Sparrowhawk, devouring a pigeon! Nature in action😯 It flew off into an adjacent apple tree when it saw us but I managed to get my big camera and tripod assembled - with the 300mm lens - and got some dramatic shots when it returned. Next challenge is working out how to download them from the camera to my computer. I know from past experience that it's anything but simple but I'll try - and post them on here - with the necessary trigger warning that "some viewers may find these images disturbing"😯🙄

I’ve just popped in to say hello. We’ve no exciting news, just plodding along with the occasional night out. On Sunday we went over the border to Settle for a magnificent gig by Merry Hell. One of our favourite groups at our favourite venue.
Whilst plodding along work is progressing on our next big project. The building work is going well and today the windows and doors are going in. Then - the excitement will build up when the processing kit comes out of storage and is installed.

@milliehull Oundle is a nice place. We had an afternoon there when last we stayed at FM. Yorkshire was lovely when the bike races were on, most villages and quite a few towns “trimmed up”. The Women’s TDeF is starting in Yorkshire in 2027, so hopefully the efforts will be made again. There are still a lot of old yellow bikes dotted around on the routes used in 2014..

I started this post yesterday, so sorry if it’s out of sync. Beautiful morning here, hope those home and away have the same.

@Bakers2 TB - to be a bit flippant it's "TB or not TB".

None of our cows that were slaughtered(49) because they failed the standard skin test have shown signs of TB at the post mortem (visible lesions and PCR tests). This has gone on since November 2023. It is now been taken very seriously at the highest level, because the implications are immense. We had a meeting round our kitchen table with the Chief Veterinary Officers and top bods from https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/animal-and-plant-health-agency. . Two of the last "failures" were sent to a government lab for further investigations. The building was closed to anything else that day and staff wore protective gear. Some tests take up to 16 weeks to culture.

I'm sorry for the rather technical answer. Meanwhile we cannot sell any livestock and will be tested again at the beginning of July.

But life goes on. Cows have to be fed and milked. Calves are born. THe grass is growing and will be cut in a few weeks.

I did wonder following your 'round table meeting' @Goldie146 . The wheels of bureaucracy grind very slowly. Hopefully your cows will help others, and yourselves, at a later time. It's all VERY distressing. I don't think the testing method has ever changed?

i think cable ties, but I'm not sure @milliehull that is but a very small selection since our arrival 3 years ago. I always think it looks rather naked and unloved when it's not sporting a topper.

I hope you're feeling more yourself?

Personally I've booked an appointment with a heel specialist we had a discussion between us about the cost 🫣, had to wait 4 weeks before ones available. Meanwhile I've bought plantar splints , I felt an improvement got silly and suffering again! Beware @InaD and @DavidKlyne Margaret 😉. Good to read you're doing well.

I'm adding tags anywhere but the start of a paragraph as it gets double letters there?

I have just treated myself to a new Android Smart Phone, its a Samsung A56 which is the latest in the A series, which is probably considered a mid range phone? My previous phone was an A50 so six years old and had done me well. Of late it seems to have needed more charging so its possible the battery is not at its best? Changing phones can be a bit stressful, especially when it comes to transferring everything between the two. Fortunately Samsung have some software that makes that easy via a USB C cable. Only trouble is you then have to fill in all the passwords again manually but I think I am almost there now. I also took the opportunity to seek out a cheaper network supplier. I was with 02 and their monthly charge is now up to £19 a month. I don't really need all the data they give so my son suggested I look at SMARTY and for £8 a month I get 16GB of data and all the calls and texts I need. So an £11 a month saving seems well worth having!

Lovely photos @Bakers2. Best of luck with your feet.

Another day, another load of appointments. First off I attended my hospital appointment. This one to start my inoculation against Hepatitis B programme. Another one in a months time. Meanwhile the Care providers returned with another new to us carer to introduce themselves to MiL and OH and find out what's needed and where things are in the event that they end up coming for a care visit. Finally I went to the Opticians for my midday appointment. New glasses ordered after an hour long visit. Price not as bad as I thought, just an arm not a leg, which is appropriate as it was the arm on the glasses that broke!

We still have an appointment to meet later today as I take MiL for her Covid booster jab.

Looking forward to seeing that Sparrowhawk @richardandros. We had one in the garden a couple of years ago that was pinning a Woodpigeon to the ground and having his lunch. After he'd finished there was 2 halves left so I went out and disposed of them. Cheeky blighter came back in the afternoon and walked around looking for the remains! I didn't want to upset him by telling him what I'd done, he looked too fierce.😂

I seem to have started something, @Bakers2 - with my Pickering photo earlier! Absolutely lovely photos and your lady in the village is incredibly clever.

@Wherenext - do you ever stop for a rest!! Pleased you got your specs sorted and that you haven't lost a leg in the process😀. I'll have a go at downloading the Sparrowhawk pic when we get home. I have got the necessary software on my laptop here, but for some reason I can't work out, it no longer seems to want to work. This one was actually Mrs Sparrowhawk and she flew off with the remains so I suspect there are chicks nearby.

It's been so hot here, today but in between rests, I have managed to get the awning down and packed away - just left the canopy up for tonight. Back to reality!!🙄
