What are you all up to

@DEBSC I really feel for you, having your MRI scan cancelled on arrival at the hospital. I can't understand why whoever cancelled it didn't have the decency to let you know beforehand. Your surgeon on the other hand sounds a lovely person, it's obvious she cares about her patients and certainly goes the extra mile.
I wish you all the best for tomorrow and Monday, and hope you'll be able to get away after Monday.
Thanks to others for posting photos, it seems all is back to normal again for everyone.

@InaD Thank you. It was a little annoying but to be honest I was also a bit relieved, Im not keen on the noise inside it. Surgeon took the time today to show me in detail my scans and explain them. There was a (hopefully) slight hiccup during surgery, again not her fault. She will check my scans from tomorrow and, hopefully they will appear the same and no more surgery will be needed and will prove the original surgery did what it was supposed to do, so fingers crossed. Yes she has been very supportive throughout, getting a caring surgeon has made all the difference.3

I agree about the noise @DEBSC- when I had an MRI on my legs re the aneurysm, I found it absolutely terrifying - especially not knowing how long it was going to last - and I wasn't even fully inside it😕 Hope you will be OK.

Everything seems to be back to normal now. Thank you very much for your help @Rowena

Good idea TDA to use the cup and saucer as a plant holder, as it looks quite cute. I don't know how or why but a photo of my hound, Brookie, who I sadly had to have put to sleep a couple of weeks ago has appeared as a JPG and I can't delete it. The Club ought to know by now that any sort of change to their internet sites, often has problems. Strange really as no other company seems to have so many problems with their internet as they have and instead of improving as time has gone on, in the case of the Club the opposite seems to be true,

@vbfg aw, he is lovely🥲 The website has been playing up a bit, I would contact Rowena, she will sort things for you I am sure. Sorry to hear about Brookie, it’s hard.

@DEBSC I understand what you mean about MRI scans; I used to work on the reception desk for MRI, CT and Ultrasound, and some patients were quite apprehensive about undergoing an MRI scan.
It's helpful to have the scans shown and explained to you, rather than just being told what's on the report, it makes it easier to understand.
I hope you got a good outcome from today and sincerely hope you don't need more surgery.

Another sunny warm day here in the lakes. We've been very lucky with the weather, we did a 'baby' Wainwright - Ling Fell which we've never got round to doing but now that's all of them in the north western book. This is looking east towards Skiddaw from the trig point on the top.

Today I got the message 'it looks like you are new here' and asked me to reregister with a new password. I have done that so hope all will now be well 🤔

Another lovely evening on site.

I too got that message millie, but I was using another phone from my usual one to post a photo, and then it appeared on here after I had changed my password. Have you by any chance tried viewing CT on a different device from your normal one? I also cannot get the @ link work when trying to highlight your name! @Cornersteady well done completing the Wainwright's NW fells. There are a couple of other good Lake's Fell guide books which include different tops and alternative routes from those in the Wainwright Guides, "Complete Lakeland Fells" by Bill Burkett, and the Fell and Rock Climbing Club's "The Lakeland Fells", both are worth having a look at.
Although it has been fine and sunny here I have spent quite a lot of time in doors as I want to complete the painting of our lounge before we head off again. The job's done but I am not totally happy with the result so I might give the walls another coat when we return.

Skiddaw was our first ever walk in the Lakes. It made a huge impression on us. Seeing RAF Tornadoes flying beneath us was a huge bonus, something to behold. From that point we did quite a few walks. Probably the most memorable was the Horseshoe out of Ambleside, over Fairfield. I think it was the descent down Rydal Mount that did my knees in, it was really steep. A wonderful walk though, on a clear day. Among others, we did Catbells, Haystacks, Crinkle Crags and Skafell Pike. I had anticipated doing more walks when we retired, but sadly my knees ain’t up to it. I do love the ‘Lakes’, there’s nowhere like it, that I have seen. Good for the soul 🙂

@Freddy55 the Lakes are OH’s happy place. He spent many summers walking the hills and would love to do so again but, like you his knees, nor fitness, wouldn’t manage it these days. Fairfield was my first introduction to walking when we first met in 1968 and we went on a HF holiday together. I had never been there before nor had I ever done any walking, we bought all the kit (all the gear and no idea springs to mind!) and we set off from somewhere near Grasmere I think, to ascend Fairfield. It was a cloudy day but further and further up it got wetter, and wetter, and wetter!! Upshot was I arrived at the top, sweaty and exhausted, blisters, to a howling gale, driving rain, to eat a soggy sandwich look at some stones and walk down again!!!🤦🏻♀️🤣 I have never again done such a walk and I appreciate the beauty of the views from a hill but it’s not for me.
@Cornersteady your pictures are beautiful to see, gorgeous weather too.
@milliehull I received the same message ‘looks like you are new here’ but I have not done anything about it as it all seems to working well so I’ll wait and see.
@nelliethehooker we are still decorating!!! Well done on, almost, finishing yours. Enjoy your next trip away.

@milliehull , @Freddy55 , @nelliethehooker - no 'looks like you are new' message for me, but then I don't seem to have had the problem that some of you have been having...
Thanks for the photos @Cornersteady - they look great....
@DEBSC and @InaD. I have every sympathy with the comments about the MRI scans... I remember driving all the way down to Oxford for a scan in the early 2000's, before they removed my pituitary.... and then driving all the way back without having had it done - I just couldn't go ahead with it. Before this, I had scans done locally and they rigged up a mirror device where I could see out and it made it feel less claustrophobic (it was a 'heads in first' job!!). The Oxford lot just said they'd not heard of this before and couldn't do it.... I just panicked!! Fortunately, these days the scanners are a bit more open, but they are still quite noisy.... and I still hate them!!
Just sitting in the car park waiting for Carol to come back from Slimming World!! Then it's the usual a trip to see the MIL (in her 90's), who will have her coat on ready to be taken to Costa... (or Starbucks)... 😀

@Cornersteady well done on your fell walks, and lovely photos. I have mixed feelings about The Lakes, beautiful place, but every single time I have been the weather has been torrential, which I suppose to a certain extent is why it is the “Lake District”. It’s somewhere we do need to go back to though.
That last photo, from the site. I couldn’t help noticing the gap between the front of the caravan on the right, and the rear of the MH in front. Photo might be deceptive, but there’s not much of a gap between the two🫣 We had something similar at Warwick Racecourse, side to side gaps were fine, but rear to rear was very close, no more than six feet, and with a lovely tinder dry hedge in between. My OH remarked (bearing in mind he was a firefighter) fire only jumps side to side apparently🤭We moved our MH further away.

Spent a very pleasant morning in Pickering - but it was extremely quiet for a Saturday - as was Malton the other day. Beginning to think that there just isn't the money about any more. Most of the coffee shops were virtually empty.
Couldn't pass this by without taking a photo - well done to the ladies of Pickering WI - they certainly have been busy and many of the shops had similar displays in their windows.

@DSB and @InaD you both make me feel better about being apprehensive re the MRI scan. @DSB I just close my eyes with all the scans and go to a happy place, usually a walk. The bone scan was probably the worst as it comes so very close to one’s face. If you are very claustrophobic it must be very hard. I had to work at yesterday’s scan, holding my breath when they said and then keeping a line within a space on a screen before breathing again. That would have been ok but the hour and a half journey there took 2 hours cos of holdups so I rushed in while OH tried to park, I was taken straight in so still quite breathless before I even started. (Just noticed my emojis on this site have disappeared- so a smiley one) Today we have been looking at Travelodges etc as we realise that we cannot do that journey each day for three weeks, so intend to have to mix and match travelling with staying. Trouble is we don’t have any dates yet and staying around June in Exeter isn’t the cheapest time of the year, especially for late bookings. It would be so much easier if we still had our touring caravan.
@Cornersteady loving the photos of the Lakes. It’s my favourite place but as it’s so far away we don’t get there too often, so any photos of there are always very welcome, OH never was one for walking
and we couldn’t be hillwalking now but love others descriptions.1 -
Thanks for all the lovely comments about my pics!
Those two outfits are far more apart than that picture suggests due to the angle and also I had zoomed in to get rid of the boring foreground and get a better crop all round. This shows the real separation and the foreground taken ten minutes ago. Also as K says it's a caravan towed by campervan.
A warm but overcast and a little misty day as you can tell so just been walking around Keswick.

@Takethedogalong I thought the same as you when looking at that photo, those caravans look too close, they both seem very long caravans, the front of the back one and the back of the front one look to be at the limit of the pitch, and not much space between the two. Reminded me of some pitches at Wharfedale; the ones to the right after passing reception and the ones on the right before the exit barrier are also pretty close from memory. I've always thought that some units are too close back to back there.
@richardandros A lovely photo, I've seen various postbox toppers, but none as elaborate as that one!
@DEBSC You must be pleased with yourself after having the scan, it's not a pleasant experience. The journey there and back sounds horrendous though, it all adds to the stress of everything. Finding somewhere to stay for part of the 3 weeks would make sense, rather than driving that distance every day. That would make everything even worse. I hope you manage to sort something out without it costing an arm and a leg.

@InaD I refer you to my previous post😊

How odd, when I wrote my post by @Cornersteady wasn't showing, I can see it was edited (5.39pm), but that was over 20 minutes before my post (6.01pm). Perhaps unless one refreshes the page it shows only the posts already there? It didn't take me over 20 minutes to type that post.

@Cornersteady see my most recent post🤔

@InaD I will, but glad I alleviated any concerns about correct spacing on this site to all 🙂

I can support the @Cornersteady post about the separation of units at the site, having stayed there last year, as the pitches are both large and well spaced.

@heddlo it is just a couple of rooms completed ( well nearly ) but it has been a number of years since we did much at all and the rooms were looking rather tired, so have decided to gradually work through the house, bit by bit, between our trips away of course.
Today has been rather cloudy for the most part but it did brighten up in the late afternoon. It was an early morning visit to the bank, followed by a walk in the park, avoiding the Park Run "athletes", then back home to clean the inside of the car before getting it loaded, ready for the next trip. After lunch I sorted out a reduction in phone and mobile Wi-Fi contracts, so a time well spent.

@Cornersteady Plenty of room between I can see now. Sorry if I had you taking more photos to clarify🤭 sometimes the angles are deceptive.
@richardandros that is a lovely postbox topper. Not sure if it’s a Yorkshire thing, but a lot of postboxes in Yorkshire towns and villages have post box toppers. Thirsk isfull of yarn bombing. It started big time with the Tour de France visiting, and kept on with the Tour de Yorkshire race, the various Jubilees, Royal Weddings, Coronation, VE days etc…. Lots of post boxes near us have toppers as well. I am interested in the actual post box, we like to spot unusual ones from different eras. That looks fairly old, and is one of the double doored oval shaped I am guessing. Know the location. The “holy grail” of Post boxes is outside the gates of Lincoln Cathedral. It’s a very old VR one, but also painted gold, to commemorate the Gold Medal won at the 2012 Olympic Games by someone from Lincoln. I can’t recall who at the moment!
