It’s suddenly become very much cooler here, you could almost feel the temperature dropping during the morning. We’ve shot off to our caravan for a few days but probably won’t go too far over the Bank holiday as it will be busy in the Cotswolds. We didn’t realise it was a Bank Holiday until here. A visit to Tesco this morning and we sat in a very long traffic queue into Stratford before we could cut around the back of the town, queue was still there on our way back so I expect the car parks will be pretty full.

We power washed the decking last time we visited but all the banisters and struts could do with a good clean, and there are a lot of them, so that’s my job with a cloth and soapy water in a bit. I popped into the Oxfam charity bookshop while in town yesterday and stocked up on books, so I shan’t be short of things to do. Last year we saw Mid Summer Nights Dream at the RSC and it was really good, OH has been waiting for it to come out on DVD it finally has and he managed to buy it yesterday so we are looking forward to watching that.

@wherenext, you made me smile about the GP phone call in the shower, that’s the problem with mobile phone conversations. My surgeon phoned while I was in M&S yesterday, she did offer to call back but I managed to find a quiet corner in the shop to have the conversation so it was fine. But it can sometimes be difficult. At our Drs surgery to get an appointment you used to have to leave a message and someone called back wanting all the symptoms, not easy when I was at work on the 6th floor so couldn’t ever take it outside. Better get on with this cleaning job then.

    o

Do you have a roof vent in the area there? They are not completely sealed, so as to provide permanent ventilation, so at some point some water may have got blown in onto the surround, and tilting the van allowed it to drip in.

Arrived at Kendal on Wednesday about 13.30 and got set up on our pitch. Traffic not too bad on M6, and no holdups. Made a small detour to the fuel station at the junction where we took off for Kendal to fill up our 2 6kg Gaslow bottles, we had one empty one and one started on so filled almost 15 litres, so that should keep us going for a year or two. Price not too bad, just under £14.

Very hot here on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday……air con temperatures! Had intended to put up awning on Thursday, but did not feel too good, must be something only I had eaten as OH was fine. Spent the day sleeping and felt much better on Friday. Put up awning after breakfast, went for shopping in the afternoon in preparation for the family arriving for dinner.

They made good time from Glasgow, 2 hours 40 minutes, so here just after 18.00. Peace now shattered! Apparently Callum slept most of the way, Nathan not at all, but when they finally went to bed it was Callum who conked out first, I think Nathan was over excited.

Some very large dark brown cattle in the adjacent field were of great interest, as were the sheep and all the arriving/departing MHs, but the main thing Callum wanted to see was how to empty the toilet cassette. With 5 of us here, it needs frequent emptying!

Today we are visiting the Dock Museum in Barrow, very interesting models and other exhibits, excellent play area, and a nice cafe for lunch. DD has spotted the large ASDA, so having discovered that she has left behind all Nathan’s t shirts, and looking for summer trousers for herself, we will be going there later, and also filling fuel as the price is good.

The site here is very busy, all 30 pitches occupied, about 50/50 caravans and MHs. A few very large MHs. Still quite sunny today, but not nearly as warm.

Much cooler here as well @DSB It started off pleasantly warm and sunny but as the day wore on it became cloudier and cooler and we now have that chilly breeze back. I did some gardening this afternoon and had to put my jumper on. I did a lot of planting in my pots and my back, which is never good these days, is now complaining.

I paid a visit to our new Dunhelm store this morning. It has moved and is much bigger so I was looking forward to having a browse. I thought it very smart but more expensive. Also I wanted to buy some fabric but was told they don't have fabric in stock anymore - I have to order it online 😲. I have been a Dunhelm customer for years but I think they have just lost my custom.

@milliehull I know exactly what you mean. I was looking for some wallpaper for the living room but found it difficult to get anything unless ordering it online. I need to live with it for sometime so really need to have a good look at it before I buy, not looking at it on a screen.I miss the Laura Ashley shops, I always managed to get nice wallpaper in their sales.

Good day today got up this morning and didn’t do much just watched the mornings session of snooker then we headed out about 1. Took the short drive to Sumerlee museum in Coatbridge great place recommend it to anyone staying in this area it’s got some good outside exhibits and an indoor museum. They have some full sized cottages each kitted out as a typical house from a parthclahr decade ranging from the 1820 to 1980s good to see things and a lot of the items from the 60s to 80s were familiars to us as things we had years ago hi fi etc. Came back to the van and cooked on the Cadac while sitting outside as the sun was still out. Not too sure what plan is for tomorrow.

We've just had a VE Day 'street party' with our friends, here at Conkers C&CC site. Absolutely 'frozen' outside, but now back in the caravan to warm up..... a lovely evening, if a bit cold 😀😀....

I seem to remember during the week there was a discussion going on here about awnings and sun Canopy’s . We have an awning but it’s not full sized it’s a 3/4 awning not too bad to put up but we only use it a couple of times a year once on our usual spring trip then for our main summer break in July apart from that we don’t bother because it can be a lot of work to peg it all out. We do however have a sun canopy that we bough a few years ago very easy to put up only takes about 10 mins and goes away in to a carry case so doesn’t take up a lot of room. Hadn’t had it up this season yet so decided to bring it with us this weekend and put it up (almost forgot we had it until I was reading the comments on here during the week( it’s handy to have and offers some shelter if it’s raining or very sunny Here’s a couple of pics of it it’s a Suncamp one and wasn’t too expensive to buy

Nice photos @Francis, is it Strathclyde where you are staying? Looks like you had a good day out.

Thanks for the nice words about the photos. Good to hear that you enjoyed your day at the Dock Museum, @KjellNN and that you recovered from your illness on Thursday. You will be enjoying the company of your family, even if the young ones do tire you out.

It was a sunny day here but we still have quite a strong chilly breeze. We took a walk around the woods from the Pendreich car park, above Bridge of Allan, where there is overnight parking allowed for 10 M/Hs at £10 pn. After lunch another walk along part of the Hill Path to Menstrie. I then came across this post box in the town on my walk from the caravan.

The shower tray looks fine but one never knows and I think that it is going to be one of those mysteries that may not resolve itself for some time, if ever. Loved the photo of the hound and he looks so well for his age.

The slight bits of dampness were near the door and a little bit around the bathroom door opposite. The inside of the rest of the van was completly dry, so I am keeping an open mind and not worrying about it too much.

Perhaps they don't sell fabric any longer as they didn't sell enough of it. I recall when I was younger and I made some of my and my children's clothes, there was a good selection of fabric in most department stores but of course, these days we don't have many of them any more and clothes are usually cheaper to buy than make these days, unless they are for a special event such as a wedding.

@DEBSC Yes isn't it frustrating that we are expected to choose wallpaper and fabric online? I like to look at it properly and feel it. Also the staff in Dunhelm used to be really helpful with advice. It is perhaps as @vbfg says and that not enough people buy fabric (and perhaps wallpaper) anymore. I did notice that the 'made to measure' section was very big. Someone local has told me about a haberdashery shop that as opened in town that sells fabric, sewing thread etc so I will have to investigate it. They used to have a stall on our market until it was closed down in order to build flats on the site so they have opened a small shop.

I agree @milliehull it is frustrating not being able to see and feel material. We are having this issue trying to find new curtains for our, recently decorated, sitting room. I have sent off for fabric samples from various places but at 6” x 4” for some of the larger sample pieces it doesn’t give me much idea of how the fabric is en masse or how it will hang!

Yes the young man in Dunhelm said I could send off for some fabric samples but what a faff having to send off for fabric samples when you used to just be able to go into a shop and see for yourself and get some expert guidance.

What sort of fabric were you wanting @milliehull I've found it frustrating that Peterborough has no haberdashery or fabric stores. I'd be interested in where the 'new' shop is? There is a fabric stall in Huntingdon market, Wednesdays, not brilliant but does have rolls 🤣 of fabric. There is also a shop called patches, moved to a smaller location since our move 3 years ago. Some fabric, wool, haberdashery too. @milliehull I also noticed an advert for Stamford Fabric Shop, no idea on their stock - its on my list, which gets very long!

One thing we have here in my town is a fabulous Decorators Merchant. We get all our wallpapers and fabrics to match, and most of the paints we need from one place. They actually have a library full of fantastic wall paper designs to suit all rooms and tastes. Might not be a huge help to anyone unless you don’t live too far away, but I will post a link as they list a lot of wallpaper designers online, and you can browse some of the designs online……

    https://www.fergussonspaints.co.uk/wallpaper-and-wallcoverings

All our rooms are wallpapered, as being a very old house, good quality paper hides a lot of not so great wall surfaces. Some rooms have been replastered, but most are the original wall surface. We have wood panelling in some rooms to a dado, so that’s just either a repaint, or re stain. But it’s like Chatsworth…….when it needs it🤣

    I love Galerie wallpapers….. https://www.galeriehome.co.uk/collections/

Sorry cannot get above link to go live😕

The temperature sure has dropped this weekend. Nice sitting in any sun but only if out of the wind. At least it's been a good weekend for drying washing and doing some much needed gardening.

We both had an off day yesterday. We were too tired from the week tbh. OH hadn't stopped. Most unlike her not to have any energy left at all. Both back to normal today.

Has anyone mentioned the photo problem to @Rowena?

@Bakers2 the shop is called Simply Fabric and is in the Rivergate Arcade. The fabric shop in Stamford is very good as well. There used to be a fabric stall on Stamford market on a Friday but I haven't been since covid. I really must get my act together and investigate these places. I was looking for some PVC fabric for pur outside table.

@nelliethehooker yes Strathclyde it’s one of our regular sites as it’s close to home.

Up early this morning and went out a walk around the country park which is around 4 miles place was quite busy as there was a running event on and also some rowers out on the lake. This afternoon we took a drive along to the Glasgow riverside museum as there was a car show on so spent a couple of hours there. Dinner from chippy tonight and plan for tonight is to have a couple of drinks and watch the snooker.

Hope everyone else has had a nice day

Thanks @milliehull I've seen PVC fabric recently. Can't recall where but I'm thinking hard. Possibly Dunelm Huntingdon, I'm going there at some point this week so I'll look out for it.

I've managed Stamford town twice - must try harder. Got to go to Peterborough in next few weeks so will locate Rivergate arcade don't think I've found it before 🤔

I wonder if you might be missing JL for fabrics? Going back to the 80's and certainly earlier the Furnishing Fabric department would have had rolls of material as far as the eye could see. They even used to weave and print their own fabrics. Now, of course, there is a much more limited range of fabrics by the metre but a massive range of ready made curtains. When younger Margaret was a very accomplished needle women. She would make clothes for herself and the boys and curtains were no issue at all. Perhaps the difference is this was taught at school. Having said that we haven't purchased material by the metre for years, instead opting for ready made. I suspect also these things are not taught as much in schools now? Last time I looked in JL they did sell wallpaper, most of it around £40/50 a roll. Probably good stuff but I can't really remember the last time I purchased wallpaper.

Slow start again here. Bright but cool our heating came on this morning 🤣. Our weather!

Hoping to go prepare the vegetable beds. Still got the green manure on the unused bits, and my purple sprouting and curly kale flowering.....… Don't think I've ever been this far behind in the decades I been gardening! Still it should all catch up?? Still no rain so if I'd got sorted earlier I'm not sure it would have made any difference!

    Enjoy your day folks.

The ladies disappeared to Tesco this morning so I got stuck into a bit of gardening. Thought I'd do some until they returned. Didn't know they were going to stop for tea and cake! So I ended up doing nearly 2 hours worth. Mind you I was too immersed in what I was doing to notice. Flipping cold out there early on. No sun until lunchtime and that hasn't lasted long.

I'm normally left to sort out some sort of food menu for MiL when we go away but glad to say they've sorted it out between them this time. Mind, I'll still have to pre-cook a couple of meals for her before we set off next week.

Have a safe trip tomorrow @nelliethehooker.

We got back about 12 from a great 3 night break at Strathclyde Park club site close to home but still great to be away. Weather was decent all weekend managed to cook outside on the Cadac each night we were away and general just spent some time relaxing. Easy hour tow home and van now back on its space in drive won’t be away now until nearer the end of the month as we have a lot on over the next 2-3 weeks. Came home in time to watch the king on the balcony for the VE Day fly past great to see and so many people turned out to watch. Weather still lovely here so sitting out in our summer house at the moment but will head in later to watch the snooker final. Anyone who has been watching it will probably realise it won’t be a late night finish judging by the current score.

Hope everyone else has had a nice bank holiday weekend

Glad to hear that you had a good few days away, @Francis. You should have plenty of time to clen the van and car before you head out again!

Thanks @Wherenext hopefully it will be a comfortable drive across country.

We have had another lovely day, cool early on, with even a little ground frost first thing, but it warmed up nicely as the day progessed and was warm enough to sit outside in just a T-shirt this evening. We had a very pleasant walk around Coxburn Reservoir and through the woods today. The THS ends tomorrow morning but the majority of units have left, with only 19 units left on the rally field out of over 100 that were here at the weekend.

Arrived home just after 17.00, heavy traffic on the motorway in Glasgow as we were later than usual, plus normally we try to travel home on the weekend.

Left Kendal just before 12.00, having left most of the packing until today, with DD there to help, things were sorted more quickly. We then drove up to Gretna services, found a space in the caravan parking area and had a leisurely picnic lunch to round off the holiday.

Not a drop of rain the whole time we were in the Lakes, which is unusual in our experience. Yesterday we went over to Windermere so the girls could visit Lakeland. I watched the boys, who were very interested in the water fountains at the entrance, and got rather damp, so we retreated to the car to find dry clothes. After the girls had parted with a substantial amount of money, we went up to Brockhole and found a picnic table in the sun, right next to the most excellent playground, which the boys really enjoyed.
