What are you all up to

Tomorrow it will be six weeks since Margaret had her hip replacement. It will also be her final physio session. On Saturday she has her follow up with the consultant and I assume it will be considered all over and back to normal by then? She can walk pretty long distances now and only uses one of the crutches and then only when she is out and about. She has hardly taken much in the way of pain killers in the last couple of weeks so all good progress. The only problem now is that we have to catch up on all those delayed things that we couldn't do like eye test, dentists etc. So we are gradually working through all these things. Last year when she had her Carpal Tunnel operation she had to have her rings cut off as they wouldn't come off naturally. A week or so ago we took them into the jeweller that cut the rings off to get an estimate to rebuild them. Surprisingly expensive but needs to be done, so that was another job for today in CMK. She wanted to check the size they will be restored to so that was something else off the list.
On the way back we stopped for a coffee at John Lewis, its near the car park. I mentioned the other day that I had a new phone which happens to be 5G, not that I have thought much about that. But during coffee stop I was looking at my phone and noticed the 5G icon so I thought I would do speed test. It was over 100 Mbps download speed. I do wonder if 5G becomes more widespread then site WiFi will be a thing of the past?

Had a busy schedule this morning but treated ourselves to an afternoon at RSPB Burton, which we thoroughly enjoyed particularly as it wasn't busy.
Couple of interesting flora.
A broad leaved Marsh Orchid
An unusual sedge grass, Pendulous Sedge.
The weather has been kinder today. Hope to take MiL out for the day tomorrow. Felt a lot better tonight after getting a phone call from my brother in France.
Good to hear of Margarets progress @DavidKlyne.

Margaret appears to be doing well @DavidKlyne I guess you are very pleased with her progress.
Glad to read that you had a dry stay at Spital Farm, @KjellNN and that you got home safe and well. When are you next out or have you not yet decided?
We left the THA as it was ending today and as we left there were only 7 units remaining on the field out of over 100 that were there over the weekend. We had a good run across to Appin, and the C&CC site at Barcaldine, and found the road in a much better condition than the last time we used it. The day started off bright and sunny but it clouded up as we past Tyndrum. Thankfully the sun came out towards evening. We were surprised to find the site almost full, but not at all surprised that there are more M/Hs than caravans, the site being on the NW500 route.

No plans as yet Nellie, we and DD and family are off to Islay in mid July for a 10 day stay in the house owned by our daughter in law and her Mum. They have owned it for many years, Mum’s family came from Islay originally, but we have never visited before as they used to either rent it out or use it themselves between Easter and October. Now however Mum has dementia so cannot stay there alone, which is very sad.
We are considering a couple of weeks away in the van after that but before the boys go back to school in August, we have offered to take Callum with us if he wants to come. Not sure where yet, but will not be too far away.
Meantime we have quite a lot of things to do at the local Guide Hall, and at home, so will need to get organised and make a plan.
We, and DD plus the boys, will be going to see our son this coming weekend as it is his birthday very soon.

Good to hear that Margaret is doing so well @DavidKlyne 👍

Good to hear that you had a phone call from your brother @Wherenext. Hopefully that has relieved your mind somewhat. Hope you have a good day out with MIL
Margaret seems to be doing so well @DavidKlyne. What a relief to get that over with and get your life back on track.
Nothing much to report here other than the fact that the last few days have been decidedly chilly with a cold north east wind. I was back to the Cathedral yesterday after my cold and I had full winter gear on! We shall see what today's weather brings.

Good to hear that Margaret is doing so well @DavidKlyne and that you are now able to get on with life. Nothing much happening here - weather a lot better than it has been for the last few days - we finally seem to have got rid of that bitterly cold NE wind coming straight off the sea. We were so cold the other day, I actually lit the wood burner!
Exciting morning so far🙄 - finally cleared the garage of a load of cardboard boxes that was preventing me getting in. Mr Amazon has a lot to answer for!! However, the trip to the tip which is normally five minutes away took over half an hour because the Council had decided to resurface the main road and I had to wait until there was room to get past their massive machinery. It was a bit daunting creeping past the tar spreader and grit layer, on the wrong side of the road.

Yesterday we went to Burford, we usually skip the town and go straight to the Garden Centre, which is very large. We rarely buy anything, it’s more like, ‘how the other half live’ as everything there is soo expensive. We saw a garden kennel for a dog to keep it out of the sun, it was in the shape of a Sheperds Hut and only cost £4,400! However, it is a nice place to wander around as so many original things there. We did have a really lovely lunch there, very relaxing. I did come away with 2 plants, just couldn’t resist, one is a hosta that I’ve never seen before. On leaving the town it was completely blocked as a car had broken down, police were directing the traffic, we sat quite happily studying the old town buildings. Today we popped over to Charlcote, very quiet there, just had a wander around. Called in at the Garden Centre next door and bought begonia bedding plants to take home, they go in containers hanging on our decking, I find begonias last well throughout the summer.3

We'll be popping in to Charlcote ourselves, hopefully, next month as we are taking MiL to a cottage nearby for a week. Few years since OH and self have been. Don't suppose its changed much in the intervening time.
Asked MiL where she wanted to go today and she fancied a long stroll down the length of the esplanade at Llandudno, which was the correct choice as that's where I would have taken her if she said she didn't know.😁 Fair play to her in that she walked the full length just from past the lido and RNLI station if people know it all the way to the top of the Pier (voted Pier of the year 2025 no less). It's some walk and she managed it quite well. She was back to her cheeky self today, wanting to buy stick on tattoos, imbibing of the free taste of Gin at the Aber Falls kiosk, wanting a go on the Ferris wheel until persuaded otherwise. Like having a 92 year old child with us. It was lovely and sunny but there was still a northerly nip in the wind.
We stopped for ice-cream in Rhos-on-Sea on the way home. Brought back happy memories for her as that's where she and her new hubby had their honeymoon. She recalled FiL having to sign a white £5 note when paying for something. Anyone else remember that custom?
Anyway it was a lovely day.

Back from Conkers C&CC site this afternoon. We've had a good week - especially with the weather... although a touch cool at times.
Just been catching up with the CT posts.... good to read how everyone is doing... (Pleased to hdar that Mararet seems to be making good progress @DavidKlyne.)

@DEBSC and @Wherenext pleased to read that you have had good days out with your respective family.
Pleased to read that you have recovered from your cold @milliehull, and have been able to get back to assisting at the cathedral, even in your winter gear!
Hope your trip to Islay goes well, we have yet to make out to the Hebrides, @KjellNN

Today started off rather dull, but as it was forecast to come out sunny, and after being away for 8 days, OH decided to get some washing done, and as the sun came out as promised it all dried outside. We walked this morning through part on the forest behind the site and then down on the shore after lunch. There was a steady stream of units leaving the site this morning and then others filling up the pitches this afternoon and evening. There also appeared to be a few PVCs who used the site's facility for a waste discharge, shower, battery recharge and water refill before heading on, perhaps to catch a late afternoon ferry from Oban.

We usually visit that garden centre when we stay at Burford club site @DEBSC , and I agree, quite expensive. Last time we were there (last year) we did though buy a couple of different types of leucanthemums, relatively expensive, yes, but so healthy and established, a price worth paying I thought. Their ice-creams were nice 🙂

Garden Centres are the new cafe's for us @Freddy55 😀 . Parking is good and quality is usually good. A few weeks back we went to a garden centre just outside Blackpool - we had a few nights at Blackpool South CAMC... The cheese and ham toastie was so much better than the ones we get in 'branded' cafe's. It did costa (😉) slightly more, but so much better....

Nice to catch up. Good news for Margaret DK, glad your cold is better Millie, and some nice interesting posts about trips away and days out. Glad you are getting out and about DEBSC. I like Charlecote, and the garden centre next door, got plenty of plants in my garden from there. I did some embroidery on a Millenium Tapestry that was happening in Charlecote one visit.
We had a run out to Castleton area yesterday, although we didn’t stop in Castleton. Had lunch in The Bird Cafe not far from Hathersage, then drove up Winnats, over Mam Nick and dropped down into Edale, then towards Ladybower to let pooch have half an hour sit out. Sun was out for most of our run, but we had roof off Jeep, and that wind was chilly at times. I resisted all garden centres🤣

I resisted all garden centres🤣 Proud of you. @takethedogalong
Well my comment disappeared to leave a blank box......
EEdit Doesn't allow hightlight and bold..... and tag refuses to work
But did after 3rd edit.
Teabreak over, back to the gardening.

I am still have problems with photos. I decided to add a photo after my last post, and went into edit, but it just wouldn’t load. Anyway, I will try here, without the edit. I bet I cannot resize it though, so expect a Winnats Pass panorama🤣
That’s interesting, on the finished post, it came up Large size, but I have just gone into edit, and it’s gone to Medium size🤭 I bet it comes up large again when I press save comment…….
And it did🤣🤣🤣 There’s just no logic to tech at the moment🤣

We’re back home after a couple of nights in a posh hotel, meeting up with some of the “girls” I first met nearly 58 years ago. The 12 of us (plus partners) try to get together at least once a year. In 1967 we all left home to begin teacher training and bonded together. Sadly we lost one of our group last year and illness sometimes gets in the way, but we have a wonderful time. I’m the odd one out. My teaching career didn’t last long and I ended up in other jobs. As well as farming. All but me are retired now.
But now it’s back to reality- 4:58 alarms and no one but me to cook and serve meals. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Worthy of a panorama @Takethedogalong 👍 It looks a wonderful drive. I see it’s not too far from Buxton, somewhere I keep meaning to revisit.

Winnats is a fabulous drive/walk if there’s few folks around, it has an annual bike challenge every year. Stunning scenery, and Mam Tor is up the top, part of the Great Ridge walk. Castleton is a very interesting place, but gets overwhelmed by tourists at times. The Caverns are a must see, and there’s a lung busting walk to take in Peveril Castle. It’s a location often visited by film crews, we once met Tom Baker filming Doctor Who in Cavedale.

We had a fine sunny start to the day although it clouded in later, in the afternoon. We drove to Eriska peninsula for a walk in Shian Wildlife Nature Reserve, past Barcaldine Castle.
Then onto Dunstaggnage Marina for a 6kg propane refill, at £28 cheaper than we paid back home, before stopping at Dunstaffnage Castle for our picnic lunch then into tge Castle and a walk around the headland.
The view across the Bay to the Marina with Ben Cruachan in the background.
Views of the castle and the inner courtyard, well and Gatehouse.

Beautiful round there @nelliethehooker Looks like you have some decent weather as well.

I think I am destined to never get away this year. So far three trips cancelled due to family illness reasons.
Trip in 2 weeks time now cancelled because the tow car has developed an illness and the dealership can't even look at it until mid-way through the holiday dates.

@Chelty sorry to hear that, always annoying when that happens, especially if there are large deposits or pre payments involved. At least you don't have that problem with the Club.
We are a bit out of kilter today as Thursday is our normal shopping day but it was also our Lunch Club date as well. Lunch Club always wins! So Waitrose today and of course much busier than a Thursday but 20% off fish on a Friday. Mind you without the extra discount I think you might need a mortgage to buy fresh fish these days!

We know how you feel @Chelty. Best wishes that you're next booking goes without any problems.
It's been a lovely day here. Getting the Van ready for going on Sunday. Tested everything. They work at the moment.
OH took her mother down to our local gastropub (a horrible word but I suppose it describes the place) for a coffee this morning. The views are lovely, looking towards the Clwydian Range of hills. MiL often walked there before her Stroke for a coffee then walked back. It's a bit of a rise then descent going and the rise coming back can get you puffing. We, OH and self, strolled down to it for a cool cider in the afternoon. There was a large gathering outside in the beer garden of folk who had just attended a funeral. Apparently there were guests from Australia, Thailand, London who came for the funeral of a young 35 year old woman. She must have made quite an impression in life. We heard plenty of folk stating that they mustn't leave doing things in life too late, a sentiment we know well.
Great photos @nelliethehooker.

The downside of returning from a holiday is all the unpacking, stashing stuff, and the washing!
We were straight into grandparent duties and guide hall stuff on Wednesday and Thursday, so other than emptying the fridge and freezer, I had done very little until today. So OH has had me bringing in stuff to be washed, plus the rest of the foodstuffs, emptying the tow car, and I have been preparing stuff for my next woodturners meeting, so worn out now…….too hot and too much standing for my back.
Very hot here….again……this must be the sunniest and warmest May in years. OH has been running the house on the power from the roof all day, which is good, it looks like our FIT payment at the end of June will be a record. Nice to get a decent return on our substantial investment back in 2012.
We have tomorrow at home for doing more washing and tidying, then on Sunday we are off to visit our son and family. He will be 55 on Monday, better write a card for him. DD is coming too as he has bought a new phone for her on his latest trip to USA. He goes a few times each year as he works for a U.S. company.
