Your son will run past our house when on the Great Eastern Run in Peterborough @Bakers2 . You will have to get him to have a flag saying 'bakers 2 son' so we can wave at him 🤣

Just catching up with everything, not posted for a bit, too busy doing physio exercises and getting out and about more! We actually went away in the MH last week for 3 days, and thoroughly enjoyed it, a change of scenery. Not used crutches for over a week now, initially a bit apprehensive about going outside without, but all good now. My problem is trying to do too much walking, just because it's now easier it feels like I should be walking further, if that makes sense.
@DavidKlyne I'm really pleased Margaret is doing so well and has now been discharged. The advice from the consultant makes sense, after what she, and you, had to go through to get this done. My check-up isn't until 8 weeks after my operation, so another 2.5 weeks to wait for that.
@nelliethehooker Really enjoying your daily reports and photographs of your current trip. You're so lucky with the weather too, hope it keeps fine for you.
@Wherenext Enjoy your trip away. As for Llandudno, we like it there too; we've been going to the Empire Hotel for years, about once a year, with friends, probably since the 1990's. Last time we went was end of March, saw loads of seals from the Great Orme, wonderful.
@DEBSC Sounds like you're having a great time being away, and also with such good weather, does you the world of good.

A gloriously sunny day spent in the Lakes. A last minute decision late last night to do a walk with the family. I first climbed Great Gable in 1984 and indeed it was my first ever Wainwright. In those days it was always easy, everywhere was three hours up, two hours down, Today was four and a half hour up which I suppose wasn't too bad, then Green Gable and back. The 'sherpas' went onto to do a few more summits but we came down from there and met them back at Honister slate mine. Another fantastic day.
Moses Trod, we didn't go up to Windy Gap but went up from the right.
The summit with Wastwater behind
Great Gable from Green Gable.

It is good to read that you are getting on so well after your operation @InaD and Margaret too @DavidKlyne
Super photos from a grand walk @Cornersteady
@Bakers2 best of luck for your son on the marathon, and hopefully he gets a place in the London one.
The puppies look cute, tda, but I know what you mean about little dogs.

@InaD Very brave to go away in the van. Not that we have one anymore but ours had different floor levels which I think could have proved difficult. Having said that when you have this type of operation there are lots of people telling what you can't do but you have to do what you feel comfortable with otherwise you won't get anywhere.

We moved all of 23mls up the road today with the caravan, and thankfully found a good lay-by in which to stop for our lunch. We are now at the Glen Coe C&CC site, which used to be the old Forestry Commission site, and it shares the grounds with the Scottish National Trust centre, and the site is full tonight.
A couple of photos from our afternoon walk.
Looking up towards Glen Coe with Bidean nan Bian on the right & Stob Coire nan Lochan straight ahead.
Looking across to The Pap of Glencoe and, to the right, Sgorr-nam Fiannaidh the last peak on the Aonach Eaach Ridge.

Very nice pics @nelliethehooker . You certainly struck lucky with the weather. As I type, we’ve just had a thunderstorm ☔️

Home now, the garden looks like a jungle, everything has shot up in just the few days that we have been away, heavy rain yesterday morning so everything is very green and lush. Looks like heavy rain again today and tomorrow. I bought more plants that I couldn’t resist but now really wondering where I’m going to put them, considering making the flower borders bigger, but will then mean a big reorganising of plants, but then less grass to cut.
We are going out for a meal tonight as it’s our daughter’s 50th birthday. Her family have organised an afternoon at a spa as a surprise, they just called in on their way to leave her birthday cake, we told her they were taking her to Crealy and to be careful on the rides, she wasn’t impressed! Our friends asked if that made us feel old but OH pointed out that she is our youngest. Come to think of it it poured with rain on this day 50 years ago as well.
Great photos guys.2 -
@DEBSC know what you mean re garden we came back last Tuesday from a 5 night break in a Gite had good weather whilst there but there was a couple of storms here so grass very long now all short as OH gets on the ride on mower whilst I do areas with handmower and strimming he cannot do so looking a lot better, whilst away we did go to a plant fayre it was ok but very expensive and met our friends there whose gite we stayed in and they said not as good as previous years and also expensive they said try the local nursery in the village much better and cheaper and wow 2 large glasshouses filled with flower plants and veg plants my sort of place but restricted my self to a few plants smaller ones so fit in car now all planted and well watered as we had rain most of day yesterday and a heavy downpour overnight, glad to hear you are feeling well and hope your treatment goes well, enjoy your meal with your family.
The sun is trying to come out but still a lot of cloud about and looks to improve later this week, just done the house work as it was very wet outside so inside chores heyho.
@Freddy55 hope the weather was ok for your trip to RHS Malvern as it was warm and sunny last year and as you say the backdrop of the Hills, it is my old home area, did watch the Gardeners World programme from there Friday night and a lot of folk wrapped up and I did the plant Marquee first whilst it was quiet only thing for me not being able to bring any plants back here.

it’s glorious up here, in the mid 20c’s, but I think we had a very light shower overnight. Not enough to make a difference though.

Good visit to DS and family yesterday, along with DD and the boys. They served a nice buffet lunch and we were able to sit outside afterwards for coffee and biscuits. The boys came with us as Mummy had to put down the back seat in her car to transport a desk for our grand daughter, and a chair for oldest grandson to take to his new flat soon, he is studying in Stirling. Desk and chair acquired free on her local community page. GS still needs a desk and asked his Dad if he could have his one……which did not go down well!!
Our son, our oldest is 55 today, that does make us feel old. Our daughter will be 40 in June, does not seem that long since she was a teenager.

@nelliethehooker lovely photos. I clocked the classic Land Rover in the top photo. Roads look nice and quiet, beautiful area around there.

@nelliethehookerJust spotted the classic Landrover in your photo OH thinks it might be a series 111 as he had one.
Sun now out and much warmer upto 20C hooray, OH has taken a very small oak tree as rotten inside also in front of it a many branched tree thought it was a wild plum many years ago and it is not and not doing very well so that has been chopped down amazing what you can do with a small battery operated chain saw good job he had 3 batteries for it, a trip to the dechetterie tomorrow morning and now got our QR code so we can get in and out now as they have barriers only taken 10 weeks to get it heyho.

Had a good trip over the Pennines yesterday. Motorways were the best we've travelled on in a very long time. So we were parked at St.Aidans RSPB nature reserve in east Leeds in under 2 hours from North Wales. Very hot day, no shade there but we really enjoyed it. We had booked a site east of Doncaster for the night on the basis that we were going to visit Potteric Carr reserve on the east side of Doncaster after St.Aidans but in the end were too tired to be bothered. Had a brief shower in the night.
Spent the morning walking around parts of the Humber estuary with its reserves on the south side. Not quite as hot today, lovely in a breeze. Now on a CL that we've been to before.

That was well spotted TDA & @RedKite, I waited ages for that shot!! :)) However it really just chance that it was there. It is good to hear that you, and @Freddy55 too, are having fine weather, even if you have had some rain.
Glad that you had an easy journey over to the East @Wherenext. Please pass on our greetings to Mr Ogg, and enjoy the cake in the cafe!
It has been the hottest day of our trip so far. We had a walk from the site up the part of the Fionn Ghleann, where we got a good view of th Aonach Eagach ridge.
I called into the NTS Centre to have a look at the turf house before another walk most of the way up to the WiFi master, but wasn't wearing the proper footage for the final stretch. However I got a good view, away to the north, of the Pap of Glencoe with the granite peak of Stob Ban in the far distance.

Lovely early morning walk on Alkborough Flats with sunshine and birdsong to accompany us. Had a smashing time seeing quite a few rare(ish) birds and had the whole area to ourselves.
The afternoon spent in the very pleasant company of @Takethedogalong and OH. Had lunch then retired to the sunshine outside the Van for a good chinwag.
We've now been joined by another unit on site.

@Wherenext we almost felt like we were on holiday, thank you😁 Good to have a nice afternoon away from home.

Thank @Freddy55
Even hotter today, around 30C. It did cloud up for a while this afternoon, with on odd spot of rain, but much brighter again now. We had a drive around to Kinlochleven for a walk along by the R. Leven before I wandered up to see The Grey Mare's Tail waterfall.
Today's sculpture was sited above the river's Tailrace.
Today's view is from Glencoe village down the loch and across to Ardgour and Garbh Bheinn.
Glad to hear that you had a good morning out on the Flats and that you met up with the @Takethedogalong and her OH afterwards.

Well we have just had a short sharp Thunderstorm should have had 1 yesterday a lot of clouds about but no storm, today we went to Villefranche for shopping and OH had a opticians as he wanted a new pair of reading glasses the pair he has are too strong so with a few tests got it sorted and should have them in the next 2 weeks 25 euros pair a good price, and it had warmed up to 27.5C this afternoon phew and some folks in fleeces and coats heyho, OH now has a new strimmer /brushcutter as the old could not be repaired anymore and was well used, so a very early birthday treat for him from me.
Friends are coming around for coffee tomorrow and for a catch up with their news.

The day started off with cloud on the hill tops, but they soon disappeared and it has been another fine one, but not quite as hot as yesterday. We did couple of gentle walks on parts of the Glencoe Village Orbit circuit. I took a further one later in the afternoon from the van where this view, of the cliffs of Aonach Dubh an Stob Coire nan Lochan caught my eye.

Great photos all. Thanks for posting. Totally envious as we can’t get out and about. The van goes in for its new axle on Monday so hopefully it will only be a couple more weeks until we are mobile again.
Busy day today as after 46 years we decided to have our central heating system flushed out. Now got to wait for winter to see if there is any improvement

”today we went to Villefranche for shopping”
Would that be the Villefranche near Nice?
Very nice @nelliethehooker 👍
0 -
@Freddy55 No so far South we went to Villefrance-de-Rouergue which is in the Aveyron our next department it is our usual shopping town as we prefer it to Cahors Lot as the shops there are on both sides of the town but Villefrance all in one main road and a nicer trip out there as well.
Today we have woken upto thick fog but now slowly clearing, we did have a thunderstorm last evening some awful clouds about before it started and about 5.3mm of rain so the grass will grow again, we seemed to be having more rain than the UK as next week does look very wet here what happened to Spring?
0 -
@RedKite yes, it’s very dry here. I think it’s SW and S Wales that are only areas that has seen much rain, local news here in South Yorks is chattering about “drought” already. Local reservoirs don’t appear super low though yet, but it’s weeks since we have had anything other than a few drops.

Wow definite change in weather! Today heavy cloud and moderate breeze from the north. A big shock to the system after the last couple of weeks. Today 11c at present, Tuesday 28c and clear blue.
Mayhem in the house Tuesday evening. Our very handsome pheasant came into the house via the patio door, I assume, whilst dog and I in the lounge, I thought OH in the kitchen sorting the dishwasher. Almighty crash and sound of things hitting the floor. Imagination going riot as call to OH no response! Dog beat me out the slightly open door. Chaos, the handsome pheasant is on the kitchen window cill, trying desperately to get out. Kitchen window slightly open, but opens from the bottom so helicopter jumping and flapping no effect - except to scatter things on the window cill. Dog joins in by barking 🫣🫣. I manage to open the window slightly wider, OH appears having been in the shower! Pheasant escapes shocked. Dog out the patio door, chases and catches. Much mayhem as we get her to release it. It makes for the hedge, she follows...... hard soil in barefoot is not comfortable. Pheasant made it to the garden behind. Lots of feathers, including 6 tail ones, scattered over the back garden. Not seen it since. If he's still about I hope he's learnt his lesson!
I felt very guilty as I've encouraged the dog to chase it out the garden whenever we saw it - because it, and it's 2 lady friends, were digging holes in the grass. Several of which we'd filled and reseeded. As a friend said it knew a dog lived here.It was incredibly bold and had been up to the closed patio door and the glass kitchen backdoor on the other side.
This morning I managed to walk from the door, and much further than of late. The photos show just how desperate we are for rain. 2 different fields one following the other. Cracks as as deep as seen at harvest time and the poor barley has ears already in an effort to do it's bit! Luckily neither field is DIL's, but the cracks are the same......
GGood To read folks news and see photos, less distressing than mine. But it's been quite on here recently.
