Sounds familiar Millie, after we had said we would see him he told us his girlfriend is visiting him to stay. So yes that’s now four of us for lunch!

We packed up all our patio furniture on our caravan decking yesterday. All now covered over and strapped down for winter. Only realise how much we have when we packed it up! Nice when we sit out with visitors though. And the weather was so nice we just had one last, this season, outside coffee before covering it.

Strong winds today so lots of leaves to clear. The Autumn colours are good, just like the photos posted by Nellie.

We had some help in the garden today, tidying up for the winter. All our hedges and a magnolia tree get sorted mid November a bit late but our "hedge man" is much in demand. We do what we can in the meantime.

Hope you enjoy the family lunch Debsc, I think we've spent many years "treating" the family!

Very mild weather, seems strange going out in warm winds, better enjoy it whilst we can!

Heard from our neighbours who have moved back to the metropolis, getting used to not speaking to people (or even smiling at them no doubt!) Rather them than me. wink

Been 'working' this week as the school I tend to do a fair amount of work for have a number of staff off.

Anyway my shoelaces came undone with a year 8 class and I said that normally my mam does them before coming out in the mornings and how I wasn't sure how to do them up and one student said genuinely 'I'll help you do them up Sir' smile

I said thanks but said I'll try on my own first and muttering make a bow...

It's moments like that that make being in class a pleasure.

We live in an area that was originally filled with many folk who moved out of London when many parts were being "upgraded?"

And there was quite a community atmosphere, , many have now passed on or moved into "care?"with a new younger population,,  or in short term leased properties, and now work and then disappear into their property

There are a few still ,as us ,living in the area but it has lost its community spirit,  and as us oldies all agree ,there are very few residents that we see or even know who lives in many properties, let alone to even pass the time of day or say hello

Lovely to catch up with all the news and see the beautiful pictures 🙂

My week so far hasn't been very exciting, we did get our flu and covid booster jabs sorted,  as although we were told in a text from  our surgery that they would contact all patients from 1st October we had heard nothing ☹  After a trip to the surgery flu jabs booked for next week, then covid booster booked online for a few days after that. I wanted to get them done before my immune system takes a bit of a bashing  when I have to have next lot of cancer treatment.

Caravan is now packed and ready to go, just watched the forecast which doesn't look very good, but hey ho it'll be a change of scenery 😉

Another fine warm day, although we have just had a short shower of rain,  and we had a pleasant run out in the car. Not had a quiz on my photos for a while so where were we today? Of added interest one of the photos  is specifically for WN and another for tda, and a bit of self indulgence too.

Tonight is our 200th away in the caravan this year so far, so nearly back to pre-covid levels.

ONCE the hydrangea has gone, that'll be my next task, we have one, but compared to other climbers here - well behaved. Pretty too.

Deposit paid for whole house to be re soffitted fasciaed guttered and downpipes, plus a guttering and downpipe to dormer window.  Hadn't realised all has to be removed,  plus the first row of roof tiles, to change the ivy marked soffits 😤🤬. Mind you wouldn't have wanted to loose the house so bite the bullet. We have 5 additional water features today, should have left the guttering full 🤐.

Carpenter was due 1st thing, he was having covid booster yesterday for auto immune reasons. Text after I'd risen to say woken with flu like symptoms. So fingers crossed it's fleeting, we are next on his list.

Was hoping to be early enough to walk before rain arrived..... Sheet lightening around 6am, out as it struggled to get light just before 8am. Took car, 3 minute drive, rather than walk over fields to lovely green lane. Mizzle as we went out, dressed for wet but shorts and short coat. Auto wipers on full after 1st minute. Green Lane damp, turned heavier, growling thunder, Dora had a ball as plenty of different smells awakened by the rain. Plenty of chasing and running, wet through alleged waterproof hat 👒 not happened before.  Ran down my neck, boots leak - offical I have bought new ones! Total walk 23 minutes on our return to car inch puddles in the lane where none existed as we set out 🤣🤣. Driest part of me my legs 🦵. Now realise the old floor mounted boiler gone, no drying room 😱, not that I'd used it thanks to wonderful summer.

Contact lenses check and some food shopping this afternoon, morning of indoor jobs, because of tradesman, so no change there.

Good to read others news and see photos. Stay safe

Another grey and very wet day here, chilly too.  Unfortunately, the holiday makers over in Fife are having similar weather, and it seems set to continue, so they are not able to do much that means  being outside.    Not ideal with 2 small children.  It seems they had not realised how "remote" the site is from suitable wet weather activities.

Also sounds like we are going to have a wet awning to deal with when we bring the outfit home on Sunday.

As it is chilly, we have had our heating on most mornings (8-10) and evenings (5-10) since we came home last Saturday,  And it is only October.   Just wondering how much heating each day we can realistically afford at present with these high unit costs!

To try to not use too much heating,  we have fleece blankets to use when sitting, and a heated blanket each, and today OH has dug out our body warmers to add a layer between t-shirt and sweater.

Cooking and washing dishes is impractical in a long sleeved sweater, but the body warmer does help a lot.  House is warm when the sun shines as we are south facing, but this dreich weather is depressing.

However, when it gets really cold (December-February mainly) we have decided there is no point in being fortunate enough to have money in the bank, but still sitting shivering, so the heating will go on when needed.

This is our first winter with the new boiler, it is  bound to be more efficient than the old one, but as we do not yet have our smart meters in place, it is  not so easy to see what things are costing.

Today I have been looking out turned items from my stash, to take along to the  craft fair on 13/11,  they all have to be priced too, which is the tricky bit. Did not realise just how much stuff I had accumulated!

While on the subject of woodturning, OH has suggested that I select 4 of my best wood blanks and turn a bowl for each of our grandchildren as a special gift when they reach 18 or maybe 21.  Each will be marked with their name and the date it was made, and maybe be accompanied by a card with a message from me , as it is unlikely I will still be around when the younger ones reach 18/21.

Coming onto CT life seems quite stable.... Merry go round elsewhere. Any volunteers....? Wonder if there'll be another re-shuffle too, who'll be feeding the cat? wink

We heard yesterday that our local reservoirs are still very low so was glad to hear some torrential rain last night and like B2 the odd clap of thunder and lightning.

Waited till lunchtime for our new cooker to be delivered, installed, tested etc. Found a dead knitted mouse under the old one, how did that get there?! Cooker looks good, just pies and mash tonight, nothing haute cusine..gentle start...looks ok.

PS installers said leave both ovens on full power for 45 mins to get rid of manufacturing smells, I was just thinking ££££££s so it went off quite sharpish when they left.

Intrigued by the bridge Nellie (and the house, feel as if I know it.) Could read the name over the effigy but no idea where except it said Castle Combe...so only the Virginia Creeper left, which always looks great on other people's homes but as others have said it can get out of hand.

It’s definitely had the feel of a Magic Roundabout day🤣🤣 Fancy the Lettuce being crowned winner as well.

Hope the new cooker goes well brue, gives you years of reliable cooking.

That idea of the woodturned bowls is a lovely one K. I am lucky enough to have some beautiful things made by my Grandma and Grandad, much treasured. (Sadly, I never knew my Paternal Grandparents, Granny was killed during the War, Grandad died six months before I was born, but I do have one or two items as reminders)

We have had a day up at Mum’s. OH replacing some floorboards in bathroom, me doing some chores to give Sis a bit of a break. Torrential rain most of day, so at least it was a good day to be indoors.

The bridge too is in Castle Combe, where the Macmillan Way goes over the By Brook, but one has to walk through the village, and a little way out on the back road to Ford, to find it.  The memorial is in St Andrew's Church at CC. I'll leave the solution to the house for a little longer to see if anyone else recognizes it.

Must look at this thread more often – some great photos.  It’s some years since we walked in Castle Combe, didn’t recognize the bridge but seem to recall warnings of golf balls on a walk we did there. Thinking about the area and the sign in front of the house looks very Nat Trust so my guess would be Corsham Court.

We do not have a lot from Grandparents, I never saw my maternal grandparents more than once or twice as they stayed on the Lofoten Islands, but I do have my grandfather's violin, and a picture of him playing it.  I learned to play when I was about 12, but never got the hang of reading music!

I play by ear, and DD has inherited my interest and also plays, though she can read music, and has her own violin as mine was a wreck by then.  Now repaired and in good working order, I  bring it out occasionally.

I remember my paternal grandparents as they stayed very near us, but they died when I was quite young.  I do not think any of us inherited anything from them.

OH never knew her grandfathers, , one died in 1937 and the other in 1940 on a minesweeper.

Her paternal grandmother was apparently quite scary....very hot on manners and not putting ones feet on the bars of  chairs at the table!

We have some embroideries she did for OH's aunts, so 2 have gone to DS, and we have 2 which will go to DD.

Her maternal Gran she was well acquainted with, she died in the early 1980s, we have a few items of hers, passed down via OH's mum.

I’ve been busy today cancelling hotels and listing gig tickets on a selling site.

In an ideal world we would have been going to four gigs next month. But, Henry my husband is really suffering with his hip, especially standing up after sitting on the settee. The language is dreadful! So we know he can’t manage concert halls and their seating. The hotels were booked with flexi booking so I could cancel. And maybe someone will want the tickets. But if not,  heigh ho, we spent that money months ago, and anything back will be a bonus.

So, no seeing and singing along with -

Squeeze, Show of Hands, Merry Hell, Bellowhead (the bitterest pill to swallow). And no Young ‘uns in December.

We've maybe solved the sitting/standing issue (though time will tell) by buying a second hand Riser Reclining Chair. The previous owner died (not in the chair), so it’s in good condition.

Spot on  N1805 it is Cosham Court, unfortunately  it was closed, and the parking area was being taken up by families going into the church for a Harvest festival so we only had a short visit.

Wet through the night and early morning but thankfully  it stopped around 11:00 and we went yo Laycock, walking round the village before lunch and The Abbey  afterwards. Another couple of photos, a very interesting tree in the Abbey grounds and then the bridge over the Ford.

Commiserations Goldie,  terrible when long awaited & hoped for shows have to get the elbow out of necessity  like that !! My neighbours know what it's like cos I've taken to playing all sorts of C.D.s when I'm at home purely to avoid the{ (sh whisper it softly) news } loud noises coming out of certain BBC & ITV progs !  { other news channels can be as easily avoided ) but my choice of music is probably a good source of painkiller rejection especially should I be wailing along  surprised

Same here Goldie and theatre seats etc can be  uncomfortable at the best of times. Hope the wait for the op comes to an end sooner rather than later and the chair purchase helps in the meantime.

Torrential showers this morning, leaking guttering due to leaves, Niagra Falls effect. Keeping an eye on the weather as our last stay of the year is in Keswick. Might be looking for an alternative.

That is a blow Goldie. Hope you find a good home for the tickets. Good that the hotels were flexible as well. Hope your OH isn’t waiting too long, not good being in constant pain, and frustrating for him as obviously still very active. Farmers never truly retire🙂

Just back from dropping MH off for service and MOT, so🤞at the moment. Should only be something minor if at all, but you never know. We are coming up to eight years of ownership now, that’s absolutely flown by.

Just had a phone call from our doctors to advise that the referral to hopefully help OH use any of her walking aids(she has severe arthritis in her right hand so cannot grip them) ,has been rejected as funding has been withdrawn? the doctor is going via a different route to try again but is unsure if wiil still be rejected?

It may well be a case of trying via the private sector?
