Lovely day for it Millie. I have a liking for any sort of sculpture. Was the RNLI shop open as they were still laying the paving area when we were there and the shop was closed for safety reasons?
Reminded me that I don't think I posted about the wire piggies we saw in a hamster pen when we visited a garden up near Hull. Not making it up, really!
First working day back so a catch up day visiting doctors, pharmacy and various food shops. Oh, the excitement.

Finally got the system to work. My end I think but you never know.

Yes I see your wire pigs WN! We decided not to go down to the new RNLI shop in the end as we (or maybe I 😏) had apparently spent too long looking round the shops.

Miilie, you were just a couple of dates late to see the arrival of the new RNLI Lifeboat at Wells. Like the photo of the horses in the sands.,
WN, sounds like a fun day for you. Love the pigs!!😀
Tda, glad to read that you got home safe and sound, after what sounds like a grand trip.
What a fine place to stop for your last site on this trip, Kjell, we have walked over to there from Monturpie, Upper Largo, along the coastal path.

After heavy rain through the night today has been fine, warm in the sunshine, with a cool breeze when in the shade, but ideal for getting the washing dry. We managed to get our flu jabs at Beaminster this morning, before we headed round to Mapperton Manor House where we had a short walk before lunch and then visited the gardens. Unfortunately the house tours had finished for the year so will require a return visit sometime. Lovely colours of the trees and shrubs above the Italian Sunken Garden.

Good to know nellie, we have not used Shell Bay before, but it does seem to be popular. On our last stay in the area we too used Monturpie, I noticed that CL has now been moved and upgraded to serviced pitches, and a toilet.
Shell Bay was chosen by our SIL, they will be coming to use the van for the school holiday week, while we head home. Going to be a bit of a shock for him.......their first time on a non serviced pitch!!
DD has said that as it was HIS choice, HE will be doing all the fetching and disposing of water! We advised her to choose a pitch reasonably close to the facilities block, and hope for dry weather

An early morning visit to Stourhead, a picture perfect day, in fact a local photography group were just ahead of us. Some overnight frost but clear sunny skies. The Watch Cottage was bedecked for Autumn.

Thats a shame nellie. OH loves looking at RNLI lifeboats and will be sorry to have missed it but the car park were we parked shut at 4.00pm and we ran out of time. He is a great supporter of the RNLI as he was a bit of a sailor some years and used to crew on a friend's boat when they sailed across the channel a couple of times a year

Lovely day up here as well Brue. Spent the morning wandering around Burton Mere RSPB reserve, mostly slowly. We did have a brief period of cloud which actually helped us, cutting out glare and reflection.
A couple of minor jobs in the afternoon. One of our near neighbours has finally succumbed to Covid. He was approaching me on Saturday to have a chat but I had to take a phone call and he came down with it on Sunday! Phew!
Early morning blood test tomorrow.

I hope you enjoyed your Alexander MacCall Smith talk Brue. I love his books.
Another lovely day weather wise. Wall to wall sunshine this morning with a few clouds this afternoon. We had a very enjoyable visit to Felbrigg where they had some Harvest Festival displays. Sad to see they have had to close their orchard to the public where their chickens roam free because of bird flu.

Good photos brue fond memories of Stourhead at different times of the year.
We are on a site near Villeneuve sur Lot, very well laid out with shrubs and bushes between pitches we have a quiet spot to ourselves as folk on site near to the toilet block but we will use our own, surprised to see good grass on the pitches they must have had more rain than us and only 60 miles from home some of the shrubs look very brown but if they were pruned may come back. Off out to look around the local area tomorrow as weather looks ok. Got a nice view to the one side of the van so will get camera out tomorrow.

Millie, he was very entertaining, Mr Brue came along with me rather unwillingly as our daughter couldn't go and even with Mr B being a non reader of the books both of us enjoyed the event. Alexander McCall Smith has a great sense of humour and is self-depreciating, lots of insights into the writing ideas and his life in general. Very funny tale of a real life house swap his family did in France (we've done similar) and a total mix up over caring for two grumpy cats that needed worming...french pharmacy thought it was him that needed worming....french farce in the making!

Anther fine sunny day but it has started to cloud over this evening. We went to Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens this morning and had a good walk round. Wandered up to the view point overlooking the Fleet and Chesil Bank. We wondered how we missed it last time we were there.
After lunch we had a short walk down to the shore. Then drove back via West Bay and wish we hadn't as, to us, is just an ugly seaside resort full of car parks, cafes and lots of people.
. We have had the site to ourselves until today when there was another caravan on when we got back. However we are off tomorrow, moving up to deepest Somerset, staying on CL near Street, where H&T stayed earlier in the year.
A couple of photos from our walk today.

Kjell Shell bay at Elie was one of our first caravan holidays as a family some 38years ago, son was very quiet in the awning where we found him filling the nappy bucket with sand! try getting sand out of washable nappies!
Millie We have always supported the RNLI, my mum helped out as a member of the Ladies Lifeboat guild. Her friends couldn't see her leaping onto a lifeboat, she just wasn't built for it! It helped raise funds for the Lifeboats, for resulted in Mum and Dad getting an invite to a Holyrood House Palace Garden Party.

Oh dear, Robsail
surely you worked that out fairly quickly
you just put him back in the sand filled nappies [one at a time], and then go and dangle him in the sea,
.Seems fairly obvious to any qualified, time-served, retired engineering brain

We had a trip to Plymouth today. Granddaughter just started at Uni there. A few days ago the motorised wheel on her wheelchair got an un-repairable puncture. Grandad got an urgent call, as she was almost housebound, he then ordered a new tyre and tube and spent part of today fixing it, not as easy as changing a bike tyre. I’m thinking of getting him one of those plaques - ‘If Grandad can’t fix it no one can’. We then took our granddaughter out to eat, well you have to with students don’t you. Then we almost got a parking ticket, then OH almost lost his phone. Not a good journey home, tractor, traffic lights and a very long traffic jam. Tavistock Goosey Fair tomorrow so town diversion. Then country road closure and long diversion, then wrong turning on diversion! The normal 2 hour journey home took 3 hours! Looking forward to just washing and housework tomorrow.

A day of frustration.
Received a text cancelling my blood test whilst sitting in the waiting area. No Phlebotomist! As surgery wanted an urgent blood test I drove there and asked them what they could do. They eventually relented to providing one this coming Friday but most reluctantly. Only because I would have had to cancel an appointment at the surgery next week.
Meanwhile Mrs WN given the runaround by MiLs surgery trying to get a Covid and Flu jab appointment. Most in the close, many younger than her, have had them. Standard reply was to "Wait until she receives the letter from the health board". She wants me to shout at them. We'll wait until Monday as one of the neighbours in the same boat and asked to ring then.
Off to town then as both of the near neighbours now have covid so food shopping on their behalf. Called in at wood suppliers but they don't have any hardboard. Can't get it they say!
Bought some batteries for alarm fob for caravan as it's not working. Turns out the button is broke so ordered new fob! HOW MUCH!

Not the best of days. Probably burn the dinner. Tough to do as it's salad but I'll try.

We have days like that WN☹️Thankfully, our GPS really do seem to be on the ball with vaccinations, all four of us had ours done, Flu and COVID in one visit, at the surgery, in and out in 10 minutes. It really is a lottery sadly.
I am having an intensive week at Mum’s, getting some long overdue tasks sorted this week. Fine as long as Mum doesn’t want to “help”. It takes two to do anything out the ordinary nowadays. One to tackle the tasks, one to entertain our Duracell Bunny.😁

Oh goodness - we all know how the French prefer to administer medication 🥺. So glad you enjoyed his talk. I will keep a lookout and hope he comes to our area.

Things can only get better WN - hopefully 🤔

Well done to your Mum Robsail such a worthy cause. If we had been near a Lifeboat station I think OH would have volunteered in some capacity. As it is we support them in whatever way we can.

Hope your day was better Millie.
We all have days like that, look at DEBSC from yesterday. Hers was just a s bad, if not worse. A sense of perspective called for methinks.
Anyway everyone enjoyed the Roamaine Lettuce flambé, chargrilled cucumber and the wilted water cress. Makes a change.
2 -
Sorry to hear about your days, WN and DEBSC, hope you both fair better tomorrow.
Sounds like a good evening that you had, brue. I have quite a few of his books but not read any for a while.
An interesting but steady drive across country today. Some of the roads in Dorset take a bit of navigating, especially with timber wagons coming in the opposite direction at the narrowest point. The CL was easy to find and had an extensive view all the way from Cheddar to Glastonbury Tower. We had a sprinkling of rain but could see numerous showers crossing the hills towards Glastonbury from the west. Had a wander round some of the village, Catcott, this afternoon and what an interesting place it is, more to explore during the week, weather permitting.

An afternoon well spent for us. I think he was a professor of medical ethics at some point but it's easy to get into the wrong line of chat when abroad.
I'm reading one of his new books now, will put a review in the book section on CT, it's a group of stories, "The Exquisite Art of Getting Even."Autumn mists have descended this morning, looks attractive through the windows but chilly when going out.

Just had a look through recent posts and Nth gosh you were close to where we used to live 2 villages away at a village called Chilton Polden it does have a nice small church and there is a large building on the top of the Poldens next to A39 called the priory not open to the public but has got some lovely views from it used to know the next door neighbours to it.
Enjoying our short break away and the site is flat full of shrubs and trees hence a lot of birds about also nice to be on grass instead of dry clay or soil like the last two sites so perhaps they have had more rain than we had although some shrubs look pass it, had very thick fog yesterday morning and sun did not come out until 2pm so a change of plans and some shopping done instead they do love roundabouts here and not the best signage.
We have got 5 vans on site which are travellers all very quiet as men go out to work and yesterday the women were cleaning the vans all Fendts hoses plumbed into the water points and out on the roofs mopping and cleaning the roofs good job the women were small in stature and climbing through the large roof vents, no restrictions with hose use here? as we have at home as we cannot use a hose even when put into a water butt.
A bit brighter so will get to Pujols to have a look around and now got birds walking over the roof think they have heavy boots on ha ha.

Now all set up on the site at Shell Bay.
While the facilities are very nice......10 unisex shower/basin/toilet rooms plus male and female toilets and a disabled room, laundry and dishwash......we are not impressed with the pitch spacing and the lack of ensuring people pitch sensibly.
Hard standings will take van + awning, but there is not a lot of space for parking the car by the pitch if your van is on the larger side. Like most people, we have ours across the front, which is OK, but does make access to pitches beyond a little tight. There is however plenty of parking space not too far away.
Our neighbours, who were in place when we arrived, have not put their van to the edge of their pitch, but about 1 metre too far our way, so their awning is only about 2 metres from our van, which is not ideal. Hopefully they are not staying too long!
There seems to be a lot of, very large, seasonal vans on the site, mainly unoccupied at present, so although spacing is poor, the place is quite quiet.
