I love a bit of people watching on site tda!  And referring to previous posts I also like a quick nosy at what other people are buying in the supermarket.

As it was blowing a bit of a hooley today we decided to walk alongside the River Nene into Peterborough today to not only visit the cathedral but to have the pleasure of meeting MillieH. And a pleasure it was. The cathedral wasn't too shabby either.smile Both events worth the effort in getting there.

The day stayed dry for the walk back which entailed using the opposite bank as workman were erecting barriers across the bridge we used in the morning just after we crossed it. Still blowing quite hard at the moment.

Hope we do not have a recurrence of what happened last night. At about 1.30 this morning our caravan alarm went off, nearly causing heart attacks in both of us. First time it's ever done that but we did notice that 2 other alarms on other units and the farm building also activated so we think it was some sort of external pulse that set them off. The person in the caravan next door didn't even notice as I found out when I apologised to him this morning.undecided

Earliest monastic site in Britain...a nice trip out today followed by lunch in a vegetarian cafe where we should have shared a meal, the portions were huge. Anyway it was good to get out...if anyone recognises it?!

We are happily pitched up on our third stop now, a very nice CL near Iken. We had a good look around Orford and Orford Quay this morning, sadly couldn’t get into the castle as it is shrouded in scaffolding, but Orford Church was very interesting. Bought some nice stuff for lunch in a deli, pitched up here, had an hours sit down (and people watching🤣) and then a cycle ride out to another small church, and Snape Maltings. Cycled back through Tunstall Forest, saw deer and some lovely pigs. I do like to see pigs having a good time outdoors. CL is nice, £16 a night for HS, hook up. Shower and loo as well for those that want it £1 for 8 minutes shower. It’s a big garden, with a pond and landscaped, plenty of room. Choice of grass or HS (but you’re not charged extra for choosing🤣).

TDA yes for Glastonbury  and strangely enough the BBC Coastal Village programme tonight was Orford! I think you'll enjoy catching up with it at some point

Nice to hear about all the holidays and meet ups. smile

We stopped there 3 years ago, almost to the day Ttda. A nice site as you say. Walked around the estuary to The Maltings.  Lovely area. Almost certain I left a review. That was the site where 2 young women arrived in a M/h kn Friday, had a walk Saturday with their dogs, had a shower then skipped in the afternoon without paying. Owners had taken the day off to drive to the NEC for the show.

WN, Orford Ness is now NT, not sure if you can get across at this time of year.  Very interesting to visit, for us especially, as OH used to work there in the early 70s, when it was a joint USAF/RAF base. Cold War era and all that. Have been back a few times, when visiting friends near Ipswich, and OH has even appeared on TV with Micheal Portillo when he did a programme about Orford Ness. His claim to fame!

We could see the Pagoda’s from the Quay, but I think the boats are only going at the weekends now. We are on a bit of a tight schedule sadly, could spend weeks around here. Probably take a look at Aldeburgh maybe tomorrow, as it’s due to rain, hopefully Thursday will be better and we fancy cycling to Thorpeness, another Village By the Sea😁 we depart Friday, not sure of our next stop from here yet, but We might take in Framlingham and Thetford.

    Prize porkers…….

InaD we have been across to the Ness. Had a fascinating day there one Spring a few years ago. Good birdwatching and history, two of my favourite subjects. Really interesting day. Nice story about OH btw.

Brue, we have stayed west of Ringwood on a few occasions, CC&C site at Verwood a couple of times, a CS and twice on a CL that no longer exists. We will not bother with trying to navigate round Bournemouth and just spend time around here on the Heath and at Moors Valley CP. The tress are starting to turn colour nicely now.

    Another unusual tree spotted  today.

A drizzly start to the day. We had a couple of walks in the Ferndown and Holt Forests. Reached our first objective, Horton Tower, in the worst of the rain before lunch, and then saw this ancient piece of farm machinery, or possibly a very clever sculpture, in the afternoon.

Terribly sorry ttda, for some reason, even though I quoted your post, I had it in my head it was posted by WN. Senior moment wink

Suffolk is lovely, we've also seen lots of piggies there. If you're also in the C&CC, one CS I'd recommend for a next time is Little Sage Hill. Not far from Ipswich,  it's in an orchard, very peaceful and lovely owners who are horticulturists and have planted some lovely trees and shrubs.

Enjoy the rest of your stay there.

I think that it was ‘closed down’ before we saw it Millie, it was on the previous page. This thread is so pleasant and has run for so long best to keep anything other than just chit chat off, we don’t want it closed down, but that’s just IMO.

Hope you get to Framlingham TDA, such an impressive castle site.

Nellie sounds like you've found plenty to do nearby, interesting tree photo. You're in a nice wooded area.

Very windy here today, some help in the garden after a long break due to illness etc nice to have an extra pair of hands. Also waiting for our "hedge man" OH has done some cutting back but there's still a lot to do, maybe we can see out over the fields soon. Lots of leaves coming down, a month's worth of work coming up!

Hair cut for me too, no doubt I'll be windswept when I walk home.

Interesting experience in Glastonbury stainless steel box  public loo yesterday. A recorded voice boomed out "you have 20 minutes in here, we will warn you when your time is coming to and end" .......I half expected it to say "and then you will leave the solar system!" Such are the delights of Glastonbury. laughing

Talking of unusual trees, nth, how about this one.  Right alongside our 'van when we were at Thornthorpe CS a few weeks ago.  Just had to have a play with my new camera!

Haven't a clue how old it is but some of the trees in the orchard are over 300 years old.  It used to be massive when we first went there but had to be felled a few years ago because it was unsafe - but it's good to see that it's growing again.

If you look at it long enough, you can see all sorts of sculptures going on.

I remember that loo Brue🤣 Dad was highly suspicious, wouldn’t have anything to do with it. A visit to Glastonbury is always memorable, the Abbey is superb. It’s one of those rewarding people watching places as well.😁

Love Framlingham, we have been before, the church is full of history as well, so it’s a real temptation for us.

I know I shouldn’t curtain twitch, but there might be an interesting dilemma here later. It’s currently very windy, with afternoon rain forecast. Our neighbours obviously don’t do any food prep inside their MH, it’s all done on two of those little gas canister camping stoves on tables outside. So, no canopy because of strong winds, too wet and windy to use stoves, it won’t be pleasant in this wind on rain to head out at least four miles on a little scooter…..🤔

Last nights meal was eaten stood up, outside, glancing at a tiny TV positioned in MH doorway. I tried “hello”, but no eye contact was forthcoming and I strongly suspect our pooch (tied up) is viewed as some sort of travelling pet incubus…….

Brue does the door on that loo spring open if you out stay your 20 minutes!  I was checking my credit card bill and thought it must be wrong when I saw two amounts for 50p and one for 40p. Then realised these amounts were from when we were in the Lake District and I had to use the public toilets. What would our grandparents have thought if we told them you needed a credit/debit card to be able to use the loo. Long gone are the ‘spend a penny’ days.

Dont talk about tree leaf fall. We back right on to a wood. When we moved here almost 40 years ago the trees were quite small, now we have 2 huge towering oak trees almost over hanging our garden. They say a mature oak has between 250,000 and a million leaves. So that’s either 1 or 2 million leaves we need to clear every year!!! The wind seems to blow this way and we get the lot. Already this morning I see some on the decking, my heart sinks, it’s almost that time again. All cleared up one day only to be thick again the next. Too much to do at once though so many clear up days ahead.

I don't know about the loo Debsc, I got out of it as soon as I could....have used it before but forgot and it makes me jump when the voice starts up! I At least it was free I've also left a debit card loo trail in Dartmouth and the Lakes this year, everything we do is tracked!! (I later discovered a free and much cleaner loo in the old Dartmouth market yard, useful info. wink)

R&R that looks like a lovely old Sweet Chestnut tree trunk. There are some at NT Monatcute House with wonderful twisting trunks. We have a fairly young oak tree by us and I measured it a few years back, I think it sprung to life about 97 years ago but we have seen it grow more over the years, it will certainly outlive us.

We had a lovely long chat over coffee and cake with Bakers today as she accepted our invitation to come to the caravan. Lovely to see her.

No energy though for us two today due to the buffeting the caravan took from the winds last night so sleep was interrupted on many occasions. The site is lovely but a bit exposed. The alarm behaved itself so we're hoping for third time lucky tonight. Although the wind has just got up again.😢

After a couple of weeks off, I was back at work today 😦 my desk was heaped with delivery paperwork and I also had over 2 weeks worth of emails to go through. When I left it looked a bit more organised but still along way to go to catch up. I am just glad I'm right handed! 🤣

Lovely to read about the trips away, meet ups and to see all the photos, I admit to being  a little envious, not sure when we will be able to get away next, hopefully after next Thursday's appointment with the surgeon we will know more. 🤔

Helen. I hope all goes well with your appointment on Thursday. I am sure it will be a relief to know what the next step will be. Hopefully you will soon be able to make plans to get away before too long.

And the same from me too.

Helen, I just want to add that we are booked into a CL that you used earlier this year, Langlands Farm, and should be there in a week.

Tda, love your take of your neighbours.😁

Brue, there are lots of walks close by so we don't need to travel too far, and the main roads are too busy for us, anyway. I too was going to say Sweet Chestnut, they do produce some wonderful forms.
