😱Doesn’t bear thinking about😬 I can recall the big steam rollers pressing down the pebbles into liquid tar on the street where we used to play as children. (Although in truth, not sure if they would have been steam driven in the late 1960’s.) We were always hoisted off the street out of the way when it was happening, only to get back out later to go and play with the tar bubbles with a lolly stick. Heaven help you if you got it on your socks😬

Wandering about and having a sit down to find that it appears they know me here too!
I should explain that the term here isn't as derogatory as it is back home, it can be but when directed at at object it simply means unattached or not part of a set, so these are small books that have no other connection. It's written in Italian on the other box.

Had a relatively straightforward journey south today from our site in Weardale to the Humber region. A lot of caravans and motorhomes on the move, ours was planned weeks ago for today but I suspect a few have moved days around, as the caravan did on the C.L. we are currently at. Due to leave tomorrow they decided to go after an early dinner and left half an hour ago.
A chilly wind blowing straight from the north over the Humber today but the weather seems to be settling down a tad for the week. Had a wander to stretch the legs and ended up at Barrow Haven Nature Reserve just up the road.

We’ve had a good couple of days. Yesterday I was up early and out a cycle then in the afternoon we went a walk around Catterick Caravans and then Ropera Caravans got a few bits and pieces from the accessory shop then had a look around the vans saw a couple we liked and could be tempted by but our current caravan is only 5 years old and we’ve had it from new and really like it so not sure we are ready to change it yet but we shall see. Today we had a relaxing morning then spent the afternoon in York as always a great place to visit SWMBO had a walk around the shops then we had a meal at Ye Olde White Swan which as usual was great. Back at the van now plan for tomorrow is watch the funeral in the morning then take a drive out in the afternoon.
Hope everyone else has had a nice weekend

Now back home after our break had a great week with our friends at a site near Carcassonne did a wine tasting near the site most enjoyable OH sat in the car listening to music as he was doing all the driving and does not drink, also had a boat trip on the Canal du Midi and another day to the Citadel really enjoyed that but too many folk for me so the quiet times about the week was enjoyable with our friends in the evenings and a lot of laughs and lucky with warm weather only 1 short storm but overnight, a good trip back not much traffic as a Sunday. Will catch with the chores tomorrow although the caravan is unpacked just got to clean inside not sure outside as we are still on water restrictions and very little rain whilst away.

We're just back from another dog friendly hotel break, this time in Oundle (near your part of the world, Millie!). An excellent hotel where we were well looked after - but not as well looked after as the dogs who were the star attraction (sausages for breakfast
!)We rarely get across to this side of the country, but loved Oundle, which has any number of attractive ancient buildings (mostly belonging to the public school). On Friday they were filming an episode of The Crown (Netflix for those in the know) in the marketplace. Some lovely walks to villages in the area including Fotheringhay and Woodnewton.
In Woodford we came across this cleverly thatched cottage and on other walks two spectacular churches, the first in Oundle itself and the second in Fotheringhay.
Think we might be returning in the not too distant future.

It's been a while since I have posted, but I have been looking in to read what you've all been up to, I have enjoyed reading about all the trips away and activities .
I have had a very anxious few weeks, and have been un decided about posting my news, but here goes!
After a routine mammogram , followed by a ultra sound scan and biopsy I was told that I have Grade 2 breast cancer. I had been given a treatment plan but it was dependent on the result of the Heceptin Receptor test which if positive would have meant Chemotherapy too. Its meant a few trips to the Churchill and JR hospitals in Oxford, but I finally got the results on Friday and it was negative, so my planned operation is going ahead on Thursday, still have two trips to the Churchill on Tuesday and Wednesday first.
We did manage to squeeze a couple of weekends away in the caravan in August but all other trips have been cancelled, as we wanted to give the CL owners as much notice as possible.
Keep posting all your news and photos, I will keep looking in to check what you are up too. 🙂

Met up with son and DIL for lunch at The Live and Let Live, a 16th C Inn, on Bringsty Common, and very good it was too. Would definitely recommend it if anyone is in the area, and it is very dog friendly. Then went for a nice walk on the Common with the dogs, before heading back to the van for coffee and cake.

Fingers crossed here for you as well Helen. Good luck.
Sounds like a place to go to Nellie. Meant to answer your query of the other day. We've managed to secure a temporary fix for the waste water bucket and I've ordered a new cap for when we get home.

We have had a lovely day. Got to Racecourse ok, OH and pooch had a good look around at all lovely cars and greasy bits as I call them. I cycled into York centre, had lunch with Emperor Constantine, avoided all the lemmings and cycled around city walls, then back along Terry Avenue (Club Site looked busy), past Rowntree Park, and picked up circuit around Racecourse, a nice easy 10 miles or so. We had dinner on banks of Selby Canal on way home, gave pooch another walk. Car of show for us was a very nice AC Cobra, but lots of really lovely vehicles.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis Helen. If it helps, Ros was similarly diagnosed - twice - about 20 years ago. It was a frightening time but after surgery she has been absolutely fine with no suggestion of it coming back. I am sure all will go well for you.

Good to read others news and see photos.
We came away to Hunstanton yesterday, didn't bargain on Sandringham traffic - an hour from Kings Lynn through, all the way to Heacham.in the opposite direction.
Grey breezy and chilly on arrival. Our first dog friendly hotel. Dora very good but alert at the door to the stairs, right opposite our door. Had to ask for a heater in the evening, the instructions re heating in the room, turn the thermostat on the rad up, produced no results. Asked a reception, heating not on, so given electric radiator and the room slowly warmed. We overlook the sea and breeze in the north!
Hoping a few days away will be restful. More issues found when boiler work done but thankfully we don't have a mortgage or young family these days. Even full survery doesn't uncover bodges.... bathroom refit will be brought forward and some new floorboards required by the toilet, fortunately its all dry but mouldy under the floor covering.....
Right must dress and take Dora out, activity close to the door is getting greater.

Lovely morning here at Scarborough CAMC Site. Wished I had packed the shorts! The site has only been open a couple of weeks since refurbishment, so we're taking the opportunity to try out one of the new Serviced pitches.

When originally opened this site was bare, barren, lacking trees and any shrubbery. It had been a quarry, like so many club sites, and had little if any character . Looking at it now it’s matured and holds a few wildlife habitats, one of our favourites. Let’s hope the other Scarborough CAMC site gains that maturity too.

Moulesy sounds wonderful, a bit close to home for us now, but where do you find your dog friendly hotels? I may have asked before but I can't recall your response if I have 🤔.
Dora had a good first run on the beach this morning. Still grey and chilly, DSB send the sun at bit further down the coast to us in Norfolk please.
Just watching the historical events of today and are very glad of the electric radiator we've now got in our room.

Best wishes from us too Helen hope all goes well on Thursday
David - How have you found the site we really like that site and spent a great two weeks there a couple of years ago. We plan to go back next year at some point has the refurb made a big difference

We booked this hotel and the one in Malvern earlier this year through Pets Pyjamas. They have hotels and cottages all over the country. They have some very good "3 nights for the price of 2" hotel deals and dogs go free! 🐕 🐕

We have at last lost the high winds and very squally showers off the North Sea the camper need a rinse as it is has now got it seems a light coating of salt? It is still a bit chilly but sun out
Best wishes to Helen and a speedy recovery

I think the site is looking good now.... the only exception being the bit just after reception, which is a little car-park-like. The rest of it is lovely. It also has toilet blocks which are not 'shut for cleaning'. The toilet blocks are partitioned, which means they partition it, clean one half, open that up and then clean the other half.....
Sun still shining. We have watched the state funeral in Westminster Abbey. We'll leave the private committal to the family. Off out in a mo.....

Thanks. I had a vague recollection that that maybe where I heard about them from. A relative of OH mentioned them too.
Interesting as I looked but got a better deal direct on ones I checked out.
Don't we do pageantry well? Will watch to the end of this part them out to partake of some air and exercise. The sun seems to be out, hope the breeze might have dropped or gone to a warmer quarter! Depending on outside we may or may not watch the Windsor part.
