Wow we have a stiff breeze no rain though. Which will makes things worse for the fire fighters.
Kitchen pleasant 25 and lounge 26 before opening all.windows to blow through. Shame we can't store the heat for the colder days! Dora standing by the green bin at the end of the patio facing the side gate, full in the strong breeze, ears blowing gently with a smile on her face! Bird activity almost back to normal.
Enjoy your day folks hope no one's been affected by the wildfires.
Looking forward to.a proper walk

Ventured out this morning after the last couple of days of extreme heat although windows closed and blinds down on the sunny side of the house ,even the upstairs toilet seat was hot

Hertfordshire fire service had nearly. 400 emergency calls including several fields of crops

Woken early after a fitful night's sleep due to cat objecting to being kept in..then daughter's partner arrived to borrow concrete mixer. Very warm night so not pleasant, breeze stopped completely. Better now!
ABM checked our lottery ticket and it wasn't us!
Was planning how to distribute 190 million, buy a country estate and start worrying about employing people to run it...
Wonder what the bank thinks when they see that amount coming into your account, do you get an "alert?" Hope your OH gets home safely TDA. Strangely enough, along with others no doubt, I was looking at pools yesterday!

I took the plunge Brue😁 Just need to order a filter and chlorine dose kit now. It’ll kill the grass, but frankly, I don’t give a damn🤣
Very hot last night, even with fan on. But we have a very nice breeze this morning, so I have all doors and windows open. Local news tells of a very busy night for SY fire service. Dozens of wildfires that have unfortunately in some instances completely destroyed homes, gardens, sheds, garages, and the fields have been burning. Our town is 70% rural, so you get lots of small villages and linear developments, so anything backing into fields, woodland, etc… has been vulnerable. Someone’s poor dog was trapped for four hours in a burning house, but miraculously has been rescued and totally fine, vet checks of course. I can hear Fire Engines de dahing in the distance as I am sat here. You don’t realise at times like this just how vulnerable your house might be. Mum has nothing but woodlands, allotments and fields around her. We got no rain at all last night, despite storm clouds brewing as I went in at 10.30pm. I hope others have been safe, it hasn’t just been our area burning.

Brue wrote "That was the horrible part of 1976, living with a drought for weeks on end and sharing the bath water...."
Save water, shower with a friend and get them all of a lather.

I just wish, like everyone else, we could get some rain! I’m getting fed-up with the BBC saying it may rain for a few hours today but the proper (Met Office) weather forecast is saying no rain. 😡. Our garden is parched and even our well established large shrubs are suffering. I don’t like to water large shrubs but we couldn’t help but water them last night. So awful to see the wildfires destroying the houses in London, heartbreaking to lose everything, so sad.

Unbelievable change, we're about 20C (which normally would be great) but there's a fresh wind, and it actually feels too chilly to sit out. I'm not complaining but hard to believe this time yesterday we were using the hose to cool ourselves down. The human body is amazing that it now can't imagine being so hot enough to do that, or maybe just me.

It has been cooler here today had to sleep with all windows closed last night due to the smell of smoke from the Gironde fires and I see today it has reached Paris nearly 500kms from the fires, now got the smell again after nothing for most of the day and even managed a dip in the pool and it was lovely now covered up again due to the smell and windows all closed again just as it was getting cooler inside.
Terrible news of the London fires and other areas in UK, 1 fire in Brittany next to a ancient wood was started by somebody having a bonfire in their garden and he did go to the Gendarmes as the fire was spreading he may get a fine as garden bonfires are not allowed anywhere in France for the last couple of years yet we do see some in the winter although farmers are allowed if they have a license issued by the local Maire, it maybe in the future that bbq's with charcoal or gas may not be used in certain areas as some areas even now have banned them so electric bbq's only.
Take care folks although it is getting cooler, we had all sorts of warnings of a heavy storm last night with hail and very strong winds it missed it as it went the other side of Cahors all we had was a few spots and the garden really needs some rain I have had to water some large shrubs even the lilac leaves are drying out not good will have to have a revamp and go for more drought tolerant plants.

We had a cooler night last night but today its muggy again around 24c with more sun and blue sky.
More work at the sewing machine for me, I have made a rip stop side panel that we can attach to our wind out canopy for the MH. It will go at the end where the sliding door is, not full depth just 1.5m but it will keep wind and rain off the sliding door and give us a bit of privacy when reverse parked on a pitch.
This afternoon we went into town to see the Spitfire and Hurricane fly over the river Tay. It was a memorial flight for a former Pathfinder pilot who had recently passed away. We picked just the right spot as they flew up the River towards us and then did a bank to fly down the river again then turned and came back towards us again. OH got it all on video so a happy bunny.
Tomorrow I will have to start packing the caravan for our week away.
Our youngest son and his family are coming up here on Saturday and calling in for a few hours. Haven't seen them since the end of October last year. They are only up for the weekend. DILs Mum died last year and left her body to science, the family have arranged a memorial this weekend for her.
OHs 3D printing is going well, 25 more sets to do that's on order. It's a modification for the fold up sink in our make of PVC. When the sink folds up the water goes into a trough underneath it, the only thing wrong with it is you can't get into the trough to clean it. One of the men on our FB group came up with the design of new blocks that hold the sink in, the sink can now be removed for cleaning underneath. What a clever person. He initially printed the blocks and sold them to any members who wanted them. However it got to much for him and he stopped making them. Being the kind of person he is he offered up the design to our group to see if anyone would like to take over from him. OH thought it a good project for the Men's Shed. So far he has printed out 40 sets and sold them to group members.
Terrible news about the fires both home and abroad, we called our son who lives near Barnsley last night to make sure they were alright, they are. Our other son is down near Salisbury plain which is/was on fire, they were getting the smoke from that so like other's windows all closed.
Hope all on here are safe and well.
Good news TDA hope your OH gets home. It's never easy in hospital no matter how good they are it's always good to get home.

Good News. I did another COVID test today and it seems I am no longer positive
Trouble is Margaret tested again today and after so many negative test she now has a very faint second line. Then get a phone call from my Sister in Southampton and she has tested positive. She has recently come back from a cruise although she thinks it might have been the 15 minute taxi ride home from the Port? Just to cap it all, my Sister in Law, who has some dementia issues had a fall and was taken to hospital and appears to have caught COVID in hospital. So it seems one step forward and three back!!!David

Well David you'll now be able to look after everyone if needed! Do hope the family make a swift recovery.
Nice and cool here, managed to get my hair cut today, a month later than expected due to hairdresser getting Covid at Glastonbury.

Boy oh boy. That was an expensive day.
Early start to take the caravan in for service to our usual service centre in Wrexham. Had a chat with the staff and decided that we needed 2 new tyres as they detected very small splits. Caravan 5 years old so something we expected. Whilst there we bought 2 new easy chairs as our current ones are an embarrassment and tip bound. Then we found they had 1 Calor lite cylinder left so we nabbed that to pick up later. Also bought a new low wattage kettle as existing one either turns off early or doesn't turn off at all!
Had a pre arranged lunch with my cousin and her hubby so that was a bit expensive, even splitting the bill, all on top of yesterday's outlay at the opticians and my CAMC membership due at the end of this month. I'll have to get 2 new tyres for the car this coming week as well. Could have done with the £190+ million but I suppose you have to buy a ticket first. Picked up caravan later in day. Bit tired now.
Good luck Ttda. Hope OH came home. Easy life for you is over my girl.

Great to read of your day TG. Clever OH.

Still warmer than usual here today. Fans going in several rooms.
Blood test for me went OK, even though it was a trainee doing it, then back to DD's to feed budgies. Left OH at DD's while I went to hospital, so she had already watered tomatoes and outside pots.
On the way home we shopped at Waitrose and Aldi as fridge was almost empty.
Now set up with food for the week, plus some in freezer.
We do not regularly shop at Waitrose......too expensive.......but OH had some discount vouchers, and a £5 gift voucher, so we splashed out. The food is good, we like it, but just too expensive to shop there all the time, unfortunately.
DD and family are enjoying the Lake District, so much so that they are likely to stay 7 nights of the 8 they booked, so looks like we will be travelling down to there on Sunday, staying the one extra night, then bringing the van home on Monday. They will decide soon what they want to do.
Today I have been connecting up the sink in our bathroom, next thing is to get on with the floor. We have a hatchway in the floor there to access the under floor area, so that has to be preserved, which means making a decent looking hatch in the floor before laying the new LVT.
There is nowhere else for the access to be as the hallway has wood flooring, and the bedrooms are carpeted. Once done, we can cover it with a big bath mat, so acceptable for the convenience of having access.

Commiserations WN, today has been an expensive day here too, just renewed our caravan cover with the Club. Last (part) year of "new for old" cover.
We will need to change to market value in March. Apparently we will get a pro rata refund then start a new policy. Market value cover costs about 1/3 of new for old cover.
However, better news on the Smart Car front, the orange engine warning light has gone off, so we are OK meantime it seems. Must have been the extreme heat upsetting it. However, still not convinced that the air con is working as it should.
Towcar, VW Touareg, now booked in for service and MOT in early September, by which time all our visitors from Norway should have departed. Our next trip away is not till mid/late September. Not sure where to yet, waiting to hear where DD wants to go, so we can end up there and leave the van for them to use.

Move on up to our last CL of this trip, just for 1 night. Motorway most of the way and not a single holdup. Weather has been much cooler, getting no higher than 22*, and we now have a light drizzle.
Hope that OH has returned home, tda. Nursing duties for you for a while now, I guess.
Good to hear that you're Covid result in now negative, but sorry to hear that you OH has now tested positive, DK. Hopefully her next test will prove to be negative.
Good that you seem to have got the van back from it's service without any major issues, WN. The other bits sound costly though.
Hopefully others who are in desperate need of water get a good soaking over the next few days, as long as it is dry for us getting home tomorrow.😁

Glad to hear this news, David. Hope Margaret is OK too and recovers quickly from the positive results so that it doesn't effect her hospital appointments. Fingers crossed it won't be long before you can get out and about in the motorhome.
We've arrived at Edinburgh CAMC site today, for a few days before moving on to Englethwaite. Weather seems a lot more settled.... Hope everyone is coping OK with the weather...
P.S. All good wishes for your sister's recovery and sister-in-law too.. what a difficult time...
David

Nellie, You just ensure that Cumberland gets its fair share of damping down well before I make a pleasant but seldom performed trip up to the Steam Fair at Flookborough Not a million miles from some Sticky Toffee Pudding Company I have read about {
wonder if they will have a stall with free tasters ??} Still it would be good if the Grass & Air Strips [ it is on the Cark air field ] were cooled & watered BEFORE the big steamers start to arrive

David K wrote that he is no longer positive,
aye lad, but are you sure
??
Ok, ok I will leave the jokes to others

TDA. Thanks for the recommendation about the motor museum we went there today and it was excellent we spent a good couple of hours there and the owner was very friendly and chatty a place we had never heard of before so thank you much appreciated. After the car museum we went a wander round the village and got some steaks from the local butchers they are now cooking on the Cadac and we are sitting out having a pint of craft ale that we got the other day

Pleased you enjoyed it, it’s a smashing Museum, and yes the owner is so nice. 😁The village itself is very interesting, including the Church.
We used to stay on a lovely private site at Bodinnick, across from Fowey, and usually drove up to Lydford a couple of times each week to spend the day horse riding on Dartmoor. Brilliant way to see the moors, the wildlife, etc. Took my Sister with us once, she can ride, but she came off riding up to Widgery Cross. We left her going back in a Land Rover, ended up spending time in A&E at Tavistock. She spent the rest of the holiday on crutches. I don’t think she has forgiven me yet🤣 So you might not want to take up a recommend to go horse riding🤣🤣Enjoy the rest of your stay👍

Got OH home safely yesterday, with help of his brother and SIL(❤️) He has had a very good night, his nurse is only rated “adequate” though……late on duty, breakfast thrown at him, and no control over wandering PAT dog, but I need to toughen him up, get him back in the cycling saddle🤣 Seriously, he is doing well, so good to have him back home. Care in hospital has been really good. Thanks to all those who have sent good wishes😁

I think you misunderstood, JV🤣🤣🤣
1 -
Great to hear your OH's home now. Don't worry about the comments on nursing adequacy- you're in it for the long haul, don't set the bar too high 😉 there's months to go with the caring 😂.
He's been very lucky with his care and I'm delighted that good care still exists.
Take good care of both of you

Great news Ttda.👍. Wish him a speedy recovery. Nursing skills might need a bit of sharpening up though.😂
Hum drum day today, which suited us well. Shopping for food, gardening, lunch, more gardening, run to the tip with rubbish, re-pack caravan, cook dinner. Temperature down a good few notches allowing us to do that.

Best wishes to the TDAs hope it's onwards and upwards now...but not on the bike too soon! 🚴♀️
More dog day care for us today, not been able to do much this week, had planned to go and see a Henry Moore exhibition locally but that will have to wait till next week (daughter said it was good when she took a school party there this week...) Still quite warm, hoping for some rain, we might see some tomorrow?
Not looking forward to the main holiday rush also starting tomorrow, will have to find ways round the traffic chaos!
1 -
Good news indeed TTDA, I am sure you will be an excellent nurse!
Not so hot here today, OH has been busy with the Guide Hall accounts, and I have been working on the bathroom floor hatch. Achieving a millimetre-perfect result takes time!
The Lake District holiday makers have been on the little railway from Haverthwaite, visited the Aquarium, and spent time in the picnic and play areas, enjoying the not now so hot weather. DD it seems is revisiting all the places we took her to when she was a child. Callum is really enjoying it all, gives us all the details, Nathan I think will not remember any of it, being only 19 months old.

Probably but after two months now of dealing with what is left of the NHS and Social care,it sounded very familiar

We now have problems with our medication delivery,as ordered last week, still not dispatched, and unable to contact company either email or by phone to find out why? We need them, as hoping to take OH away in PVC ,Sunday so need to change delivery address, as would now not arrive at home this week

Oh dear🤣 I’m his (in)adequate nurse JV, a mere amateur. It was just a joke. It is sad that not everyone has experienced the faultless care through the NHS that my OH has just had, and I don’t blame the individual staff. We have been on the end of some frustrating situations with Dad in the past. Sheffield Teaching Hospitals (Northern General, Hallamshire, Weston Park) are some of the best in the UK, and we are extremely fortunate to have them reasonably close. I wouldn’t rate our local hospital as good, but by no means bad. Given my OH’s complex health needs these last few years, it has concentrated our thoughts a bit regarding any future house move. That or a garden big enough to land a helicopter.
Anyway, home nursing day two, and the PAT dog is demanding breakfast. Apparently, the recovery diet at this nursing establishment is rated “very good”, (we aim for “outstanding”) but the physiotherapist is a bit of a “Miss Whiplash”😉 Wait till he sees the water therapy pool!🤣🤣

I see that the BBC is reporting that many patients are opting to go Private (and pay) rather than wait for their name to come to the top of the NHS waiting list. My OH is on a list for a new hip, and is resigned to the wait, despite rapidly increasing pain, as we cannot afford £15,000 plus for private care.
Yesterday, our local hospital rang and asked if he would like to be referred to a private hospital, at no charge to us, as the NHS list was so long. There will still be a few months wait, and an hour journey, but he jumped at the chance. We're just waiting for the paperwork, but looking at the hospital website it looks "a bit posh".
