Sundays are usually quieter as there are fewer HGVs on the road. It’s our favoured day for travelling.

Yesterday saw a huge influx of holiday traffic coming to Devon & Cornwall. It’s that time of year.

No rain here frown. Our garden is like a tinderbox and it is really a very worrying situation. We have resigned ourselves to the fact that we will gradually cut everything down and hope that some of it at least will survive until next year. The wisteria foliage has burnt in the hot sun and the magnolia tree is losing it's leaves, both long established.  It is very sad to see. It is very hot here again today with a very strong (hot) wind. Weird weather. We had a great day out at Wicken Fen yesterday with eldest son and his family and saw some beautiful, large dragonflies and on Thursday I went to a surprise 70th birthday lunch for an ex colleague and friend organised by her daughter.

I am so pleased to hear that your OH is safely home TDA and that you have your 'nurses hat' on. My best wishes for speedy recovery to him.

You sound as thought you had a wonderful holiday Francis. I hope you enjoy what is left of your trip.

Glad to hear that your are home safely nellie. Are you now busy planning your next trip?

Hope some of us get rain soon Millie, we've had a little bit but not enough to do anything, our magnolia leaves are falling off too, I have to keep sweeping them up, they are like leather! That said I can't see any rain in our local forecast. frown

Glad the sun gods were with you and the family Francis, a really good break for everyone who managed to get away in July this year. A good journey north too, I think the main rush was south over the weekend!

Hope Redkite and OH enjoy seeing friends and celebrating birthdays too.

TDA will there be a grand opening of the pool, a swimming gala perhaps....wink  What will you put in to keep it fresh, is salt the latest thing? 🏊‍♀️ (I remember at school when my sister's friend was the only person in her team relay....that was extremely hard work!! laughing)

Milliehull that sounds identical to our garden. Not a great way to watch your new garden!

I've watched the aspen and birch trees everyday when we set off for our daily walks, the leaves have been dropping for a week or 2 but definitely more significantly in the last few days. They're green and crisp, and this morning I looked up into the canopies and was shocked at the bare branches, the cherry trees too.

There's been a couple of grass fires and at least one huge straw haystack, arson suspected 🤬, locally. Folks need to be VERY careful with every disposal just in case. I saw a dog end, most unusual at the best of times thankfully, on a very narrow footpath through a ripe wheat field last week 😱

I have finished painting the side fence panels and have the square trellis above one and a half panels to go. That's a right pain! The wind was making it awkward and I was giving myself a talking too 😆 when son and grandson arrived, mummy combining. So still got the final bit to go. The side gate and post, finished some weeks back might need replacing. The closing post has obviously, especially since the very dry hot weather, been very filled and is now moving. I don't think either the fence or gate have been coated for years they absorb like blotting paper 🥲. Hopefully it'll hang on until the hard landscaping has been done!

Don't know when post will appear as I've had to re--register with a fresh email address so classed as a newbie who needs 3 posts approved. I've done then, but of course it's the weekend.

Apologies I'am late on parade posting, tried a few times but the server errors have had it in for me! yell

Spent the day in MK yesterday visiting our grand-daughter, wow is she growing. Made us all laugh as she is trying to crawl but can only get so far before she head butt's the floor laughing. Enjoyed a bbq in the garden.

Today took "Daffy" the MG  out for a ride round the villages and along Edgehill to enjoy the views.  Stopped off at the Herb Centre for coffee and scones. Came away with yet another plant 🪴 surprised haven't really any room in our garden.

Pleased to read your OH is home ttda all the best for a speedy recovery.

Frances glad you enjoyed your holiday, safe onward travels.

Millie we had some rain overnight a couple of nights ago, but our garden is still very dry too, hopefully the plants will recover.

We've had a day of rain, some of it heavy. We had light rain overnight, so what we had today has soaked in really well, even on the rock hard ground that passes as a lawn.

I've had a lazy day today, just a bit of cupboard organising and vacuuming.

OH went down to the Men's Shed for the morning, trouble with the 3D printer again. All sorted now, they are very temperamental.

Had a lovely few hours with our youngest son, DIL and the 2 gKids boy are they growing.

Good neighbour who lives over the back from us saw the 2 teens in the garden and wondered if we were home or away. He came round to check to make sure they were not up to mischief. He couldn't believe they were our gKids as he remembers our 2 at that age. Neighbours like that are worth their weight in gold.

Hope those needing rain get it soon, our garden is positively singing now 😊

Thanks, millie, and our next trip is planned, but more of that later in the week!

I did get the van washed this morning and all in inside is done too. All told it has been a busy few days but tomorrow should be a bit more restful, as we are having our CH boiler serviced. Such a shame about your plants, hopefully some, if not all, will recover over the autumn. We had rain last night and an odd shower today, but we too could still do with more. Good to read that you and your family had a pleasant day out at Wicken Fen, a place we like to visit when down that way.

Francis, you journey north sounds similar to ours last week. Plenty of LVs on the move but no holdups. Hope rain that's forecast isn't too bad and lasts just for the one day.

Re swimming pool…….if it looks like we will get a prolonged warm dry period, I will fill it, and then use a floating chlorine donor. Basically, it’s a little floatation chamber that you drop a chlorine tablet into, and you can modify the dosage. I might get a small easy clean filter as well. Neither are expensive. Idea is to keep it clean as I can for a few weeks, then leave it for chlorine to burn out, then hopefully use water on garden. That’s the theory, but I need to read up. It won’t be heated🥶 But I have a shorty wetsuit until I get used to it, it will warm up a bit naturally on hot days. Can’t be as cold as some of rivers and pools I have been in…….I hope. We did North Sea last year🥶🥶

Had some dry spells here in the lower limits of the North-West but most peculiar ! Every time I think to feed the birds, top up the bird bath or go for my paper  SPLAT !! down comes the rain yell Just enough & heavy enough to involve clothing changes grrrrrr !!

Did not see a single solitary, isolated rain drop yesterday at the tiny show** at Southwell Race Course but did see and chatted to folks there who will expect to meet again up at Cark Airfield, Flookborough !!

One thing we did agree on, though, is the fact that the grass was thin and very pale straw coloured but the weeds  were looking quite well and very dark green !!  Must check on which comes first the weakening of the plant or the loss of colour undecided ~~ that could get me through another pandemic or six wink

Good to hear that The Ailing Ones are getting Hi-Qual  care & treatment as befits their Status

     Brian smile

**  truly a tiny show with only three full size engines steaming and smoking away BUT most defo a show I will remember cos I saw a group arriving one of whom appeared to be , at most, in her mid twenties. She was wearing classy white trainers, knee height white socks and a Ra-Ra skirt, none of which was too unusual but the lassie must have been SIX FEET FIVE INCHES TALL  !!  Looking up to ladies is one thing but some things are beyond a joke !!  Needed a bit of neck massage before I could drive home !!

Just to hot here yesterday for a dip temp was about 38/39C in the pool no I do not need a hot tub ha ha, it is cooler today and hope to have a dip later as we left the cover off hoping for the rain but so far nothing and everywhere is tinder box dry even some of our oak trees the leaves are turning brown the 1 lilac all leaves are pointing downwards as it is drying out as for watering I am being a bit careful what I water but think a major change of what plants to have that can cope with prolong drought.and I love my garden but just have to think differently.

The storm we were going to have on Wednesday has moved to Thursday and Friday so may have to take umbrella Thursday for our birthdays meal with friends just hope we can sit outside rather than inside.

Just finished the ironing and now having a late breakfast.

Thankfully, we have had a bit of rain these last couple of days, although not much. Just enough to save a few plants, get the lawn freshened a bit. But I have seen a few plants that will have done very early for this year. I think it’s the earliest flowering of roses I have ever had here. Mid May, whereas they are usually in first full flush mid June. Anything in a pot has needed a lot of TLC.

We both did a COVID test on Sunday, I was still negative and thankfully so was Margaret so hopefully we can look forward to a more normal existence! This morning I decided to attack a rather rampant Clematis in the front garden which was growing up drainpipes. It all refilled the Green Bin which had just been emptied. I don't know if its an age thing but I felt pretty exhausted after my exploits, obviously not quite back to normal yet!

    Fingers crossed 🤞 this will....

We could have exported some rain down to you Millie and not left ourselves short. To say it's been wet this past weekend and this morning would be an understatement. Still, you know what that means, don't you? Yep, weeding and lots of it. Tomorrow though.

Had a chat with BT yesterday as we have been losing our connection at various inopportune times just lately and lo and behold we have an engineer coming out tomorrow, could have been this morning but we were out. Amazing. Firstly speaking to someone and then getting immediate action.

Popped into the pharmacy today and booked flu jabs for the 3 of us. Not too sure that I want the covid booster and a flu jab at the same time as proposed by our surgery and at least a month later than the pharmacist. Could have had that earlier as well but we plan to be away when they first wanted it.

Hope those in need get some much needed rain. Take ours, we've got enough.

Well, what a strange day it's turned out to be.  We were due to leave the NYM site and I was packing the car etc when I got a text from our next door neighbour at home to say that there had been a serious accident on the main road just where we turn off to our house.  The road was closed in both directions and was likely to remain so for some time. The accident happened at 0645 and now, at 1600, it's still closed.  Rumours suggest it was a high speed police chase that didn't go to plan and considering the air ambulance was involved it sounds more than serious.

So - luckily the site is very quiet and we're staying for another night - just hope the road is open tomorrow because there's no way we can get back home until it is.

Lots of rain here - today and yesterday but there hasn't been any at home (yet) and it's only 50 miles away.

Need to check to see if we can book ours at the pharmacy, prior to Covid we couldn't, if over 65 years old had to be done at the GPs surgery. Things might have changed now. Would suit us to get them both done in September before we swan off to Spain but as they don't normally start the flu jab here until mid Oct that won't happen. We had both together last Nov 1 in each arm.

We had loads of rain yesterday and a bit again today, haven't seen the river yet to see if its made any difference, it was very low the other day.

Should have gone away in the caravan on Sunday but I've been a bit off colour for a few days so we cancelled it, feeling a bit better now so might go tomorrow or Wednesday. Van all ready to go just food to go in.

R&R, hope the road gets opened and you get home ok, at least you were able to stay another night.

Tammy, not sure of the legalities of having your flu jab done in England but I had mine done last year in Devizes (Boots) even though I'm with the Welsh NHS. This was in September. It was late September.

We've decided that if we can we'll have it done again in September when away and then cancel our appointments at the pharmacy. Probably stick with a Boots again. May be worth trying if you happen to be in England before heading off.

Best wishes for a re-opening of the road RandR. Strange that the site is "very quiet".

Today we spent a few hours (once more) at Forde Abbey, we like seeing the gardens at different times of the year. Monday is free day for those with HH and RHS cards so that helped the bank balance. The garden borders were lovely and the "gusher" went off at 1.30pm, anyone down wind of it would experience a good soaking!

It's been a bit showery here in Carlisle.  Went to Carlisle Castle this afternoon- spent sometime sheltering from the showers.  Forecast looks better for tomorrow and Wednesday.

Glad to hear things are better for yourself and Margaret, DavidK.  Looks like our 4th Covid jab will be in the autumn - perhaps they'll do Flu and Covid at the same time????

David (DSB) why does your message say approval from Community Moderators yet David (DK) in his earlier post say that it is not the mods who approve the posts but admin? Bit confusing for us mere mortals.undecided Not that I've noticed any delay personally.

We sometimes get promoted above our paygradesmile I think they mean moderation in the general sense. The few of us noted as being moderators don't have any access to background systems which I imagine is necessary to approve new (or old new) posters. I have reported one of your posts in the hope that Admin will see it and you will soon be approved.

    David

PS Just in case people think I am having a conversation with myself, Bakers2, because of a change of status, requires approval. I can see her posts but non mods can't.

It’s been a dull showery day here in Lancashire today. We took a drive in to Cleveleys and had a nice walk along the prom there as usual it was windy and cold along the shore front we come here often and it’s always windy here even in summer. After that we had a walk around the shops then went along to Lyrham where we had a wander around the town which was quiet today. Dinner tonight was fish and chips dr one of our favourite chippys in Blackpool
