Thanks for the concern and info. It looks as if I will have to be patient! Fortunately I don't really feel ill apart from being tired and an intermittent cough but that could be the heat. I did report my result and according to the COVID App on my phone I still have two days of isolation. Fingers crossed that Margaret doesn't get it as she has an important eye appointment on Thursday which has taken ages to get!

Right now it’s a dream here, just got back from taking the Dogs out. 18c, easy to yomp out in, Dogs happy in the sun rather than seeking shade constantly. Yesterday afternoon even the birds were quiet. The fountains needed topping up x3, mainly down to every bird in the area wanted a bath, bath to cool down-not so bird brained after all👍🏻

Hope you feel better soon David, take it easy! Fingers crossed Margaret avoids getting it, seems many take a while to test negative.

Hope your OH has had a good night TDA, I'm sure the ward sister knows best. wink

Yesterday evening we had the sort of cloud formations I haven't seen for years, straight out of an "old master" painting. I tried to capture it as the sun went down. We also had more large spots of rain. Dull sunshine this morning, just waiting for a food delivery and then take dogs out...we handed them back and they are here again. Daughter will be on school holidays soon but has a project week ahead so we're helping out.

Hope the heat passes quickly if it effects anyone on here.

Have arranged for Herts Equipment service to pick up loaned hospital bed and return trolley today?, as OH finds the rise and recline chair must more user friendly for sleeping on

About half an hour ago ,talking to one of our neighbours as she was returning from walking her dogs and she was saying how low our rare chalk river was,  it is barely a stream and the spring fed lake is very low getting to be more like a big pond

Postie up early as just been with post, over two hours earlier than usual

Glad your OH is doing well TDA

Been a lovely weekend down here in Devon we didn’t really do much we spent all day on Saturday on site lazing around the van then going for a swim in the afternoon. Yesterday we ventured out to Babacombe near Torquay and went on the cliff railway there always good fun and the visitor centre at the bottom was interesting too. Roasting here this morning not sure what we will be doing but I’m looking forward to getting in the car and putting on the Air con

During the hot weather our binmen have been starting work earlier which seems to make sense to avoid the worse heat of the day. What puzzles me is that they are still required to wear all this heavy Hi Viz clothing. You would have thought there would be a lighter version, including shorts on offer?

Have a lovely day Goldie. I loved your pond in the photo. Friends said it had rained in Scarborough yesterday as they were leaving. Already scorchio here inland. No wind. I noticed how quiet the birds were yesterday, all I can hear this morning is our resident jackdaws. First task will be pooch for a short shady stroll, he doesn’t stroll far nowadays.

We're due to set off for the NYM site this morning.  Been out doing the last minute packing / getting things ready etc - and the heat is over-powering already. That said, I'm not very tolerant of high temperatures any more! Now sat twiddling my thumbs waiting for 11.30 because that's the earliest time we can leave to avoid arriving too early.  Don't want to incur the wrath of the wardens.

How wonderful to be SO self-sufficient Goldie - but that belies all the hard work that must go into being in that situation.  Hope you have a wonderful day.

Couldn't believe it when our post arrived before 8.30 but I'm not going to ask for a continuation of the heatwave just for that!

Get well soon DK.... and fingers crossed that Margaret will be OK for her eye appointment.

Stay safe everyone... especially during the red alert weather warning (day 1).  No red alert in the Cairngorms, but it's beginning to warm up....  A trip to the chemist first, I think to get som 'sun lotion'.... then we could very well head to the beach at Lossiemouth.... ?

I think we're closing all caravan blinds whilst we're out today..... Hopefully it will keep the 'van cooler....

Been and had 4th covid jab very much out in the countryside but no problem finding it, a gate controlled partly holiday place so press button and through gates and as there was a lady waiting outside as already two inside building it was lovely under a big tree and 3 hoses with a fine mist of water coming out very cooling and now got all the updated paperwork gosh they do like paperwork here, there was one miniature Shetland pony in a small area all on its own and not much to eat except a large hayrack and very little shade it did look bored and sad poor thing some water was there but could do with some more.

As we were early for the jabs we went and looked at a small campsite very nice clean toilet blocks and plenty of shade on the pitches, a few tents and some small static lodges a very nice large swimming pool so a good place to go for a short break and only 30 minutes from home and next to a very nice small village and the site is open until 5th November which is good as a few other ones around here close in September.

Just about to hit 40C on weather station and may get a storm tomorrow evening could do with rain but not the hail, it was drier where we went this morning than here and some crops looked very dry and some trees.

It’s 28c……inside the house🥵 shades up, ventilation as best as I can get it, our big industrial fan going madly. Takes your breathe away to step outside. Going to be a very uncomfortable night, and then we are in the triangle of fire here in South Yorks tomorrow. Possible 41c. All fridges and freezers have broken down in our Tesco. They have dumped thousands of pounds worth of fresh food, milk, cheese and all the frozen stuff. No one in store monitoring things overnight🤷‍♀️

We have 28 in the shade, and  currently 30+ in our south facing sun room.  Normally we are circulating the heat from there to the north facing rooms, but today we are keeping the door to it firmly closed.

Got home just before 11pm yesterday and after unpacking some stuff from the car, fell into bed around midnight, it was a long day.

Up at 8am, leisurely breakfast and packing, left site at 11.15 and took the van to the site DD had booked, near the south end of Windermere.   Got the van pitched and rang to see when they would arrive, which turned out to be 1.35pm, so set out lunch in the shade of the van and trees.

Very warm so filled paddling pool for Callum and Nathan to play in while we got the awning up and everything organised.   We had to pack all our stuff, and they had to unpack all theirs, so it took a while.

OH made dinner, I had a rest, and we were eventually ready to leave for home at 7.55pm.  M6 not too busy so we made good time, once on the M6 it is Mway or dual carriageway until the last 3 miles to our house.

First load of washing on, and now we need to go and feed DD's budgies and water her tomatoes.

Do hope that you survived the motorway trip home, KjellNN, 'cos I would not like to think that you got a tad muddled due to the heat and ended up feeding the tomatoes & watering the budgies  surprised.

Seriously though, you do seem to do everything for everybody  so today & tomorrow treat yourselves to a nice long gentle afternoon of rest & coolness !!

a Lovely 32 degs in Stubbington, i think their are a lot of folk bunking off school & work today, sea now a toasty 20 degs, not as busy as at the weekend, we tend not to get the crowds as the beach is mainly pebbles so folk head of for the likes of Bornemouth, managed to get a wee bit of gardening done this morning, strimmed the horrible tuffs of grass that make the lawn look so untidy, rain forecast for tomorrow, we need days of rain to make any appreciable differance.

this is looking out over Strubbington beach towards the river Hamble and Southampton water, i cycle here swim then cycle home, sometimes twice per day.

A balmy 28c here today with a nice breeze, in all the years we have lived here can't ever remember it reaching that temp.

We did a few chores this morning then after lunch we went for a bike ride. Lovely out in the countryside, nice and quiet. Stopped halfway and had a break and a nice cool drink then cycled back. Ice cream once we got home. House is nice and cool as windows and blinds south facing are closed, that's the front of the house so living room and guest bedroom. Back of house is north facing our bedroom bathroom and dinning room, kitchen end of house east facing. Those windows are open a bit but blinds almost closed.

Other than mentioned I have no intention of doing anything else today. The birds are well catered for with lots of water containers dotted around the garden. I can just hear the sparrows chirping, plenty of shade for them with the silver birch trees and 2 big hedges.

Hope all down south of us are coping with the temps and taking it easy.

We're now up to 36C, the outside air is too hot to breath. Managed to keep most of our home cool until OH opened the living room windowsyell now like an oven in there. One room is 39C as we can't keep the sun out. Gave up and had a siesta in a cool bedroom. A welcome breeze has started!

Hope RedKite is managing this better than the rest of us! We usually get some cool shade outside as we have plenty of trees but things are beyond that just now.

A mere 36.6c in the shade and breeze.

I pottered essential jobs this morning after a 6am dog walk. I think most of the village were out walking with or without dogs around then. Very warm at the start and warmer at the finish. Only high teens but the promised what was coming! Did hose down the inside of the garage doors, seemed like I wouldn't get cold if I got soaked 🤣🤣, don't think they've ever been cleaned. Of course in the house the Jack built the floor isn't level so ended with 2 inches of water in one corner that needed scooped out, despite being next to the personal door, which has a 4 inch step. Had to remove all the left old doormats I'd put under the shelves until I'd decided we definitely don't need them. They're probably well dry now but not venturing there until after sun moves off very late evening!

Had a cool shower but effects soon disappeared. Sitting in the shade with very slight breeze but nearly as damp as when in the shower 😱😱.

Blinds in lounge not doing much to keep the heat out, the curtains on that window are just for show. Still only got blinds in front bedrooms, awaiting curtain poles being put up 🤞that'll happen Thursday. The extra layer of curtains, extremely cheap ones for now, makes quite a difference. Generally we love the east/west back/front of this house but at the moment REALLY miss our last North facing lounge!

Do your best to be comfortable in the heat folks

Well good luck tonight fellow heat sharers!!

36 degrees here in MK according to the BBC although this is the peak for today but its going to take a while cool down and will probably carry some of that heat over to tomorrow. When the previous highest temperature was set in Cambridge a few years ago we actually left the C&CC site in Cambridge the day of the high temperature but like today it was building the day before. There is a place in the East called Stanton Downham which is where many of the highs (and lows) are recorded. Don't really know where it is but assume there is a weather station there. No doubt Janine or Mo will keep us informed on Look East (West)

36C here just now. We sat in the shade under our rowan tree first thing but it got too hot later even in the shade so retreated to our living room with the curtains drawn and the fan on and we are still there now. I ventured out into the garden just now to see how hot it is and it was unbearable like an inferno! I am just thankful that we dont have to go out anywhere. I feel so sorry for anyone that has to go out to work. Roll on Wednesday when hope it will be a bit cooler.

Thanks, ABM, it is not our turn for the budgies and tomatoes tomorrow, but we do have our CH man coming to finish off the installation of our new boiler, we ran out of time before we went away, so will need to be up early.

The Smart car battery was completely dead, so had to charge it a bit before we could go out.  Also feels like the air con is not really working, and now we have an orange warning light for the engine.  Will wait to see what happens when things cool down, before rushing to the garage with it.

Had to buy budgie food before we went to deal with them, poor things were down to their last seed!  They did however have plenty of water, as did the tomatoes, I think Granny had been there before us, not having been informed that we were "doing" Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Outside plants in pots were however in a bad way, obviously not been watered, and one that Callum had chosen for the new garden border is on its last legs.  There is some green right at the bottom, so we have moved it into the shade and given it a good soaking, he will be very upset if it does not recover.  It was a nice shrub, a Pieris,  but all the brown stuff will need to be removed, so there will not be a lot left

Tomatoes have gone mad, apparently DD did not want to ask Granny to remove side shoots when they were away on Lewis for a week, so we have trimmed them back as best we can, and tied them in.  Lots of leaf, but very few trusses.  Growing tomatoes and going on holiday are just not compatible!

Love the heat, but i did a lot of work in the Middle/Far East so quite used to 40 degs +, our garden is north facing but as it is a bungalow it still gets plenty of sunshine, we have a couple of big tree's that provide plenty of shade, living on the coast we almost always have a breeze, so we spend most of our time in the garden.

The carvan is on a hard standing on the west side of the bungalow and it is facing south, well you would not want to be sleeping in there, fortunately our Spanish daughter is in Scotland for a couple of weeks, so our East Grinstead daughter can sleep indoors, otherwise she might have been sleeping outside in a pup tent.

    Take care folks.

It may get a bit cooler in the next few days but the garden is looking very dry and crisp even with a bit of watering we need a good dollop of rain.

We ventured out to Dartmoor today it was nice in the car with the air con on but we stopped at a viewing point and I got out and it was like opening the door of the oven it was showing 34 degrees on the temp gauge. We went to The Dartmoor Prison museum which was excellent great value for money and very interesting we spent over 2 hours there and it was nice being inside out of the heat. Sitting outside the caravan now and it’s still roasting so just having a nice cold beer.

Hope everyone else is getting on ok
