Glad you enjoyed Wells Helen. It's a grand place for a day out. We have several photos of the cathedral and Bishops Palace.

Good to see you getting to Gregynog Nellie.

Had a morning to myself as it was decided by the Executive that retail therapy was needed so Ambleside it was for the pair of them whilst I walked up Wansfell Pike and back via Troutbeck and Skelghyll Woods. Glorious day for walking. Met a party of schoolchildren walking up the pike with their 4 teachers, about 60 children. Most hadn't been up a molehill as they were from Lincolnshire! They all made it though.

Photos from the top of Ambleside below and  of Windermere on the way back.

Back home formerly afternoon where I was excused duties again. I could get to like this.

Hmm just lost a post. Can't remember most of it except to say I quite like Glastonbury! wink

We had an easy walk around Totnes today, so far the full force of visitors has not yet arrived  in this part of the world (until next week when more schools finish.) Unusually the Guildhall was open but we could only see the old Magistrates Court and horrible dungeon where convicts bound for Australia were kept. Steal a petticoat in Totnes and you were sent southwards via South America, what a long voyage! frown

Like other typical Brits in hot weather I climbed up the steep castle steps. The views are quite something, the knees now need a rest. laughing

Lovely photos of Wells Cathedral Helen. What a wonderful west front - although not as good as Peterborough of course! I envy you. Hopefully I will get there one day. Hopefully you will get to the Bishops Palace Gardens as well.

It sounds as though you might have met our grandson's group WN as they are from Spalding in Lincolnshire. Glad to hear that they made Wansfell Pike OK.

Brue I remember in the middle of a heatwave when we were up in Yorkshire for some reason decided to go on a walk that incorporated walking down to Runswick Bay and of course back up again! Glad you survived your climb and hope your knees recover.

Glastonbury, Wells, Street and many other places would have been on our visiting list this week had we not had to come home! Thanks for the virtual tours.

Well I never! Can't be that many around here.

You'll be pleased to hear that I met them on the return in Ambleside and the teacher in the front of the group, rather forlornly I thought, confirmed that all were present and accounted for!laughing

We were in Wells last year but didn’t get around to going into the cathedral.  So lovely to see it again HelenandTrevor.   We do love the inside of Wells and the outside is spectacular.   Our son married in Wells at St Cuthberts, a large church just around the corner from the cathedral and our youngest granddaughter was christened there.  We have spent many a happy hour with the grandchildren on the green in front.  The grandchildren also loved feeding the ducks at Bishops Palace (in the days when you could) we could never go there without bread!

No access road for cars millie, just a small car park on the back road and a walk up the narrow drive, past Castle Cottage, and around to the castle itself. Did your son find anything of special significance there?

We visited "the opposition's" castle today at Montgomery!! Built in 1223 by Robert de Burgh for King Henry III to try and control those unruly Welsh!!

We spent today in Totness as well must have been there at same time as Brue we were there a while having a wander then stopped at a little pub for a pint in their beer garden. After that we headed for Trago Mills near Newton Abbot great place much bigger than I remember on our last visit 5 years ago . Spent this evening with daughter, SIL and gdaughter who are here with their caravan too nice night and a few drinks in the on-site bar. Weather looks promising for tomorrow

Glad you like Wells Helen we were there last year and liked it but it was late in the day so had no time to visit the cathedral etc

The other day we were outside your favourite pub in Dartmouth Francis I wonder if you were in there, I was getting a coffee and cake from the little French cafe next door to take to the park. smile I envy you the pool on site in this weather! People are swimming in the Dart but it's a bit murky bear the town🏊‍♂️

Our last day, just a short break but a good one.

    Murky bear?! laughing

Have to say we are heading home to 34C whilst here in Totnes the cooling waters of the Dart bring the temps down towards 27C.

Ah Trago, the place where you see things you never knew you needed til you see them there. Love their garden centre, so big. We often go in spring to pick up a few plants, but haven’t  been since before the pandemic, somehow the journey, like many others, gets longer as we get older.

We loved Trago, used to go to the one near Liskeard, has those statues of the councillors that opposed the idea. We used to stock up on Hunter Wellies, lead ropes, haynets and all sorts of things that you just couldn’t do without🤣 Still got one or two of the lead ropes, bright pink, easy to spot in the mud😉

We went to the one in Cornwall when we stayed at Looe a few years ago I remember those statues well. We got a few things yesterday but not too much although I have a suspicion we will be heading back there before we head home

We've just arrived at Grantown-on-Spey (nr Aviemore, Scotland,)... it was showing 15° on the car about 30 min ago....a little breezy and some spots of rain.... You can send us a few degrees, Brue, if you have any to spare....  😀😀

Much cooler here in Huntingdonshire. Pleasant temperature wise between brue and DSB..actually enjoying my tasks and almost chilly on bear flesh 😱☺️ in the shade! Bet the guys, who've just finished our close, digging up the road and our gardens to insert trunking for BT fibre are pleased. Oh sun has appeared as I type!

Got to drive to Essex for family funeral tomorrow hoping it'll be like it is here today. At least the church will be cool.

All this talk of COBRA meetings for extreme heat and emergency plans making the temperature cool? Remember 1976 as soon as they appointed minster of drought the rain started 😀

Got our £150 government grant for heating via local council yesterday. Letter from previous city council asking OH to take ID and said letter to local Post Office to be given cash. Trundled to the one in the village about 8pm came out richer 😀. Had wondered how it would appear, we still qualify here, but letter stated it was your residence on 1 April 2022. So spared the rigmarole of trying to claim it ourselves.

Takethedogalong hope all has gone well for your OH.

Brue I hope you're cold improves, could it be hay-fever as it's not COVID?

Good to see photos especially Flyte, Nelliethehooker I take it he manages well . Does he get a 'free run'? You're doing marvellously to cope with him and being away - long may it continue.

Sorry if I've missed anyone, not intentional just theres been much to catch up on!

Enjoy your day folks home or away.

Finally got round to resizing this photo!

Does anyone know what this plant is? We have loads in our new garden, never seen anything like it before - neither have any visitors who are gardeners. I don't trust Google image search as last time I tried something very similar to cow pasley but currently flowering, it told me it was elderflower!

It feels a bit like goose grass but doesn't stick and the bees adore it. It seems to be fairly good ground cover - not to be sneezed at!, so I'll keep some if not all but I would like to know what it is.

Ps it is now on its second flowering so great value plant.

Certainly cooler here today, it was nice this morning but the clouds have ganged up on us so the warmth has gone.

I've been out giving the mh a good clean on the inside, it got a quick clean when we returned from France. I've removed the carpets that came with the van and replaced them with some that are more practical, they look good.

Going out tonight for a meal as it's OHs birthday 🎂

Got ourselves booked for a week away, couldn't get the dates I wanted at Bolton Abbey so we are going to Dockray Meadow instead, otherside of the country I know but its more about getting away. Then we have a couple of nights at a CL near Lochmaben on the way home.  Might book Bolton Abbey for August instead 🤔

Glad you got your £150 Bakers, we get £15 off our council tax for 10 months 😒 would have preferred it all in one go. Must check its actually happening.

Right off for a shower and get poshed up 😂😂😂

The one thing you won't be hoping for in the Highlands is a cool breeze to help you sleep....which is actually something I miss about living further north. I've also been reading in the paper that midges don't like the heat so unfortunately the benefits of cool nights and not so beneficial midges have to be taken together! wink

B2 those flowers look familiar but can't check just now.

TG hope you and your OH enjoy the birthday meal.  🥂🎉

Did a bit of clothes "sale" shopping in Totnes this morning, bought a secondhand history book from Oxfam and had a nice riverside lunch at the Steam Packet Inn. Consequently spent most of the afternoon asleep which is what I consider to be a relaxing holiday. 🙂

I'm beginning to think I may well need the old grey matter tested . Myself,my youngest son and a friend have just returned home from a three day 1100 mile round trip . Drove up to Scotland on Tuesday , went to the final day of practice at St Andrews yesterday and drove  home today.  Though to be honest it was so worth it . I've got to go back to work tomorrow .😁..

nellie I remember our son telling us that he found the skeleton of a horse or horses head but I can't remember what else.  I shall have to ask him.

Bakers2 Yes the dinosaurs are enormous and also quite noisy.  I have a feeling we might have a few screaming children! Our great grandson who is 2 and a half is mad about dinosaurs and wants to come but I have my doubts undecided They are amazing though and well worth a visit.

Check out their fuel prices, Francis. I hear they’re the cheapest in the country today. Something like £1.81 dsl, £170 petrol.

Well as suspected we ended up back there today and there was a massive que for the petrol station we were going to fill up while there but didn’t bother but plenty of people were willing to wait.

There comes a point when the wait isn't worth it.

We haven't been there since pre covid times when we used to stay at the nearby Stover site once or twice a year.
