+1, not many birds eat the same food but all need water. The fountains are were the action is😊👍🏻. I have a couple of shallow dishes on the floor under the fountains topped up regularly for the toads & frogs, nearish neighbours have big ponds & we get the young uns as overspill. Plus the Dunnocks seem to prefer the ground dishes. The Starlings MT all the fountains when bathing🤷🏻‍♂️. I’m considering banning em😂😂

The pigeons sit in the bird bath when it's empty as if to draw it to our attention🙂.

The drinking dish is empty every morning so something is drinking by night.

Yes, we have three old dustbin lids, sunk into ground, rocks around and one in for a perch. Lovely seeing them flinging water around🤣 Plus a few shallow plant pot drip trays. I have a nice bird Bath in roses, they queue up to get in there, but one big wood pigeon having a bath tends to empty it🤣 Big pond and an old laundry sink pond are favourites with larger birds. Full of frogs as well. Lovely, makes me happy to see them😁

We had a queue at one of our bird baths, a young blackbird was having double dips whilst a sparrow waited his turn...reminded me of wash block queues! Just been watching a young spotted woodpecker on the fat balls.

Sorry to hear your news Moulesy, but also heartening that you could help out when needed.

Peaceful here, visiting dogs handed back, just the cat to collect from the cattery at tea time.

Hope your OH is doing well TDA.

We had a lot of pigeon feathers in our garden a few weeks ago but no carcass. A friend suggested that a probably a sparrow hawk had been in the area, killed the pigeon and taken the carcass away. strangely enough we didn't have any pigeons at all in our garden for a week or so which is very unusual. Presumably keeping their distance. They are back again now. They don't bother queuing the for the bird feeders or baths, they just muscle straight in laughing

Sorry to hear about the dog that you have been walking recently moulesy. So sad for the owner who will be very lonely now. I do feel for her.

I think I mentioned whilst we dog sat our daughter and pals were playing at a music festival but I got the wrong name, anyway here they all are at the Godney Gathering. wink

It's been good to see all these festivals get going again. smile

We came back from a weekend away to find a garden full of pigeon feathers we also assumed it must have been the local sparrowhawk.  Took us ages to collect up all the feathers.

Last day of our holiday here in Somerset.😢 We have enjoyed it and have done almost everything on my list.

Finally managed the walk in the woods we couldn't access the other day, decided to start at the other end. 🙂 it was quite cool in the woods but it's been a real scorcher of a day, phew!

Picture is of the view over the levels from the woods.

Just enjoyed a meal in the village pub, not often you find a well in the middle of the floor.

Brue , I think we may have passed through Godney on our travels this week.🤣

Not overly warm today, thankfully, cloudy to start but that was soon burnt off. Went food shopping in the morning followed by a shortish walk along by the Shropshire Union Canal before returning to the van for lunch. Another dog walk, mostly in the shade before I went for a solo walk while OH took things easy in the shade  of the van. Has clouded up again so should not be too warm tonight.

Going to wander around a few gardens in the village today, a nice end to the week although I'm glad it's not us this time round. wink

    Keep cool everyone. 🦋

Phew🥵 if we only could. Yorkshire shouldn’t be like this, too darn hot. It’s already 28c outside. Next door have been ingenious, connected washing machine rinse outflow to a garden sprinkler…..brilliant idea, will get my OH on the case when he can bend again.

OH doing really well. Out of HDU and onto a Ward now. Still hooked up to various tubes and still on oxygen (partially collapsed lung) but with luck he might be home in next few days but and being cared for by nurses so that’s huge progress. Laughing, bending, standing all very dodgy, but, he’s coming out the other side thankfully.

Something bit me last night while watering garden. Ankle and knee swollen, itching like mad. Varmints!🤬

Seriously hot here this morning already ,looks as if the next couple of days are going to be as forecast it will be a case of stay indoors

Pond is water level  very low ,so will need to pump water from one of the water buts to bring level up

Do not remember so much of a problem when we had the 1976 long heatwave

Very hot here folks coming upto 38C on weather station and just to much even to go outside now just takes your breath away so again indoors shutter nearly shut and windows plus curtains and blinds, aircon on just behind me at present a bit cool around my legs. Did have a dip in pool as we left cover off overnight so in before 9am and it was just over 30C but swirled the water around and it was a very cooling dip will not go in again today just too hot swim wear and towel now dry.

So will watch Tour de France from Rodez to Carcassonne today nearly in our area and that will be a hot ride.

Off for 2nd covid booster tomorrow just after 12 noon for both of us and a another hot day thankfully aircon in my little car.

Glad your OH improving TDA and continues to do so and your bites sounds like a horse fly bite I have had 2 so far this year darn things and painful, have to say not many wasps about this year must be the heat affecting them although the wild bees are about on my Lavender.

    Take care folks.

The 1976 heatwave was a proper one, lasted months here. It wasn’t as hot though, just hot for a very long time. Things have improved greatly with the water supplies (unless you live in Kent by the sound of it).

This is something else, extreme temperatures for hopefully a short period. Not something we are used to at all though in this country. Just hopes folks are careful, look after children, elderly, pets, and act sensibly on moorlands and in forests.

I am going to dance outside in our promised rain on Wednesday, if it arrives🙏 Can’t remember last time it rained here, my water butts are down to the slime in the bottom.

Put something out in shade for birds and small animals, they are parched.

No idea on the temperature here, put the outside thermometer somewhere safe, very recently 🤬, but it's very very warm! However lovely breeze wafting around so under shade in the garden. Bedding blowing beautifully on the line, so much so that it would have had the sun shade over if we weren't sitting under it, we were using the sheets as additional shade 😉

Ordered matching handles for all our internal doors, another 'house that jack built' example! None of the window handles match...... but all definitely first world problems. Hopefully tomorrow we'll confirm new boiler and water tank plus associated works, moving the underfloor pipe work to join the radiators alongside rather than them coming along the wall where newer smaller radiators were fitted.... Not every room, some were done at the time as the carpets show! New shower fitted in the shower room, can't have a pumped one on the unvented system. Should be able to use the lovely bath with more than an inch of water, I'm sure it wasn't wartime when it was fitted 😉 and it's lovely shower head. Also proper size rads for a couple of rooms and sort out the 'spurred' worked. Nice external dog shower too 😀. It'll involve lots of dust and floorboards up but can't start on internal decorating until its done. Be nice to have all the woodwork the same white, some architraves are same colour on 2 sides, some all 3, all doors will be white, not the ground floor mixture of stain on some! Things you don't notice on viewings, well we did clock the doors actually.

Hard landscaping booked as well as garage painting. I've used cans of GT8 and got them to move quite smoothly now 🤞. Just need to clean them internally, think they still have everything stuck to them that touched them since they went in in 1979.....

Good to read other's news. I fear being called on for some sort of duty over harvest very soon. 2 hours away spared us before - can't decide if catering or childcare preferable 🤣🤣 childcare involves teething. Harvest not quite ready yet apparently, hope we don't get very heavy rain flattening crops! Lots of fields in Essex cut, baled and carted we noticed on Friday. It'll seem like a long winter. Kerbside and field edges more like late August early September than mid July here too.

Takethedogalong good news on your OH be good to have him home, even if it means a bit more work for you. Although visiting is very tiring and time consuming. You're in charge of comings and goings including germs/viruses etc, a definite plus in these times. Plus a change of scenery for him when he likes and cooler places, has got to have benefits.

Off to do some gentle dead heading, much needed!

Put an indoor thermometer out in the deep shade of the house and the breeze. Registering 30.2c at 5pm.

Slowly pottered deadheading including a prolific viscious small rose. Didn't know your eyelids could perspire 😱. Will do the rest of the back garden tomorrow if the maggot bites!

Dog is laying on the kitchen floor in the through draft from the side door to the patio door. Sadly the breeze will not be into our bedroom window overnight, if it continues! However the fanlight in the bathroom, that faces directly into the breeze, is wide open and will remain so. Since that faces south, when I can summon the energy to walk upstairs I will pull the blind in there up so as to get the full benefit.

Trying to cool down a little before putting the oven on 😱 to cook the gammon to go with our salad and new potatoes. I do have some previously prepared booked eggs and that might go well with some cheese and salad. Need to get a move on got a Tesco delivery between 7-8 to the later delivery time cos previous one was too early for crusty rolls, theirs freeze very well, guess what won't be coming?

Stay as cool as you can folks and let's hope we can all get some sleep

Forgot to add I guessed it had cooled off a bit as about 4pm I was aware of bird movement in the hedge, butterflies flying, swifts and the red kite calling. About 4.30 the ring neck doves came down for seed and water but not noticed any smaller ones yet. But they are chipping now., earlier it was totally silent.

Strange how the temperatures vary, when i went swimming at approx 1500 hrs the beach temp was 26 degs, very thin cloud so i guess that was keeping the temps down, some very sore bodies tomorrow as although it was not full sun, many with very white bodies did not seem to be taking the correct precautions.

At home in garden now and temp is showing 29 degs up by 4 degs from lunch time, ordered a new DC fan from Argos should arrive tomorrow, we may need it, we have a split unit in the conservatory which provides heat and does air conditioning, never used it on aircon, only heating during the winter, the conservatory catches full sun during the morning, but is nicely shaded in the afternoon, so with all windows and doors open it is never unbearably hot.

Lawn is all brown and horrible, do not not do flowers, only hardy shrubs and roses and they are all fine.

Some silly person on a local forum that I belong to has just posted that he doesnt know what all the fuss is about as we often get these high temps in the summer. Says he used to live 'down south' - he didnt specify where - and said they regularly got 39C or 40C during the summer. Perhaps he meant the south of france?!

Not too bad here, not 30C as predicted and we had a good SE breeze most of the day. Very odd, just had some spots of rain too. Will see what tomorrow brings and keep our home as cool as possible. Very warm looking at local gardens this afternoon but they all put out drinking water which was nice. The gardens were looking very dry, don't think we've had rain for the last two weeks at least and we've been asked to conserve water.

Good to hear your OH has progressed to an ordinary ward TDA, hope he is well enough to recuperate at home soon. 🌼

Oh David. How do you feel?

Son and family, including 1 year old, have had it. Few if any symptoms and felt fine. We've not seen them since their return from holiday - OH far to vulnerable, but they are mixing again but wearing masks even though negative.

We both had Covid in February, both of us took 12 days to test negative.  At that time we isolated until a couple of days after testing negative.  I believe now there's no need even to isolate, as a friend was told when she got it about a month ago.

Cloudy here today so temperature only around 20c. Managed to get both the big tow car and MH washed. Bit of gardening done as well.

Having a day off tomorrow, might go for a bike ride.

Relatively cool now here tonight, but it got up to 30 in the car earlier in the day. We are high above the Shropshire plain so have a breeze most of the time. Hope that it stays like that tomorrow when we expect to be up towards 40. We were supposed to leave here on Tuesday but have postponed departure for a day because of the expected high temperatures. Don't want to be stuck in a traffic jam with the forecasted temps, especially with the dog in the car. Also will be taking a longer route to avoid motorways, where there is the likelihood of hold ups.

Very pleased to hear that OH is progressing well, tda.

Been a true scorcher of a day here, too hot to be outside. Goodness knows what next two days are going to be like. OH very tired tonight, and he’s had another blood transfusion. Wasn’t overpoweringly hot on Ward thankfully. He’s still hooked up to lots of things. Had to laugh after a brief chat with Ward Sister. I was saying how I was hoping to pick up tips for looking after him at home. Her top tip was don’t give him a bell!🤣🤣 Love it😁
