When we drove past our local fuel station yesterday I noticed that diesel had gone down from £1.99 to £1.95.

All very cool but calm here this morning Brue. Fortunately we haven't seen a single midge since we've arrived in Scotland. We decided to do Central/East side of Scotland at this time as we heard that midges were less of an issue the further East. When we finish the Scotland bit, we're off to Somerset/ Devon/ Dorset. Then we're off to the Western Isles - hopefully towards the end of the midge season...
(It didn't matter that we're going 'North then South then North again - we'd save nothing in terms of fuel etc.... As we've rented a cottage for Lewis with Harris, we'd have had to go home to take back the caravan anyway... so it was meant to be a 'maximum midge avoidance scheme'... 🤣🤣)

TG, we stayed at Highfield CL at Lochmaben last year on our way to the Cairngorms. It's a pleasant walk around Mill Loch, unless you fancy the longer walk around Castle Loch on the south side of the village.

Thanks CY, it looks a nice place and when I phoned yesterday the owner was very pleasant and chatty. Depends how my right knee holds up how far we walk🙄
Brue, we had a lovely meal out thank you. Ate far to much, but it was nice.
Wet, chilly and miserable here this morning, could you guys down south turn on your fans and send some warmth up here please 😊
Yesterday we had an LPG top up of our house tank, grateful for that as our 2 year contract will be up for renewal in a couple of months. Estimated to go up 10p to 15p a litre, that would £100+ more per fill 😲
As its not nice this morning I do a bit of sewing, going to make a mozzie screen for the sliding door on the MH. Tried to get a retro fit but can't for our van, so I'm going to try and make one 🥴 wish me luck.

You are right JV, we don't want 40c but I'd be quite happy to have 20c, really chilly this morning after the rain overnight then again most of the morning only around 16c. Drying up a bit now and the sun is trying to get round the clouds hopefully it will warm up a bit now.
Take care of you and OH in that heat.

"Wet, chilly and miserable here this morning, could you guys down south turn on your fans and send some warmth up here please"
water temperature 19 degs, swim here most days now, high tide in 1 hour so will be in

so sorry we do not have a fan in the house, have opened all the windows and doors.
"with temperatures that could now reach 40c you would not want that as we do not"
we had 43 degs in Aranjuez Madrid in late june when we returned from Spain, we slept on towels in the caravan, but it was the flies that were the worst, we have one of those zapper lights that you see in some bakeries etc, but pesky things still invaded the caravan

Glad you are enjoying some cooler weather DSB, although it’s pretty cool at home today and has just started heavy drizzle! think we need to make the most of it though looking at weather for Monday and Tuesday!! Our grandson flies off to Malaysia on Tuesday on a school trip, hope the dire warnings of travel disruption don’t affect Heathrow too badly. We are off to Scotland, Bunree and Morvich, in September I just hope the midges aren’t too much in evidence. If you don’t mind us asking, you recently changed changed your caravan tyres and wondered if could give us the name of a good make please, we would rather have a quality tyre, even though we need 4! Ours are 5 years old now and they look ok, but, as you said previously they do spend a lot of time sitting, and we’ve been read the ‘Tyre blow out ‘ thread!! Enjoy the rest of your holiday.

Mizzling when we left the Lake District this morning, heading for home after a smashing 2 weeks away in Yorkshire and the Lakes. Quite cool when we got home after a trouble free drive down the M6 and M56.
All unpacked and a quick trip for food for the weekend. The garden is looking rather parched so it's had a long drink.
We have a busy week coming up, with blood test, opticians, caravan service, a meal with cousin and her hubby and a gas boiler service and that's just for the first 3 days. Looks like we'll catch some of that excessive heat, if not quite the full monty but we may have to advise against MiL going for a midday meal with her lady friends on Wednesday. Mind you it is one of her good friends birthday so we may not prevail.
We may well need new caravan tyres as well Heddlo. I'll have to get 2 new front ones for the car as well sometime this week. Expensive week coming up. Might have to start a GoFundMe page.

Bit late to the show but belated birthday greetings to DiverPhil. Hope he and Tammy enjoyed an OAP special.

Good to hear your holiday went well WN.
Our short break by the Dart was lovely, we said farewell today. There is still a distant rumble that CAMC want a 25 year lease on the pretty non ehu site at Steamer Quay, so that they can "improve" things and open it all year. I would be sad to see this little 40+ van site subjected to gravel, tarmac and lights. People seem to love it as it is.
Some might like the motorhome stopover nearby, by the river at Long Marsh. The adjoining river walk is very pleasant.
You can just see across the river to the site from where we had a nice lunch yesterday. I'm totally biased as usual as many of my Devon ancestors were hatched and dispatched in the locality!
Back to reality, a trio of dogs to look after whilst our family musicians play at the Pitney Gathering tonight...🎶🎺🎻

Just having a quick catch up, bit of free pub WiFi.

Great to see pics and read all the news.
Yesterday's planned walk didn't happen, we couldn't access the footpath to the woods, but instead we found another walk down by the River Parrett and past a lovely village church where the grass is kept short by sheep in the grave yard.
Had lunch at a local cider farm, couldn't resist buying a case to bring home.

A local in the village pub recommended a visit to Ebbor Gorge, which we did today, much nicer walk and not commercialised like Cheddar.
Watched a Buzzard fest at the site this afternoon.
Not looking forward to returning home and work on my non Air con office next week.!

Unfortunately the weather is hotter inland WN, we had an occasional breeze along the river (and from the coast) on site. A bearable 28C + forecast down there whilst back at home it's now predicted at 36+C...

Yes thanks, my ever present cold is starting to sub-side with the help of my good friend Sterimar (just a salt spray but very soothing!) Mr Brue asked for advice at a pharmacy and they said this is proving popular, when I restocked in Dartmouth nearly all the shelves were empty of cold remedies!! It's not hay fever although we're surrounded by hay, barley and wheat, the air is very dry and dusty which doesn't help. End of medical report....

Glad your cold is subsiding Brue, I have been suffering with hayfever over the last few weeks 🤧 especially with the warm weather, I Can also confirm Somerset midges seem to like the warm weather judging by the number of bites I have. ☹

Today has been cloudy at times but with clear spells. Had the jumper on for most of the day, but still braved it with the shorts. A visit to Inverness, followed by Culloden Battlefield and Fort George. Cooked evening meal on the Cadac and ate outside. It's gone a little cooler now, so we've closed the caravan door and switched on the TV.
With regard to the tyres... I can't especially recommend what they've put on, as I've only had them a couple of weeks, and I don't have a great knowledge about tyres... We used a mobile fitter called 'Tyre Medic'. Raymond James (our local caravan retailer/ service people) recommended them to us. He came out to us storeage to fit - all feels fine. The make of them is MaxmilerPro (185 R14 C 102/100R). He said they were 'mid-range' tyres (not the cheapest, but not top of the range.....). I don't know if any of this is much help, to be honest.... Best of luck, what ever you do....

We did the full round earlier in the year when we stayed at Whinneyknowe, after our stop at Dockery Meadow in May.

Not been able to keep pace with all comings and goings, but good to catch up with the many travel tales.
Glad to read that you got home safe and sound WN.
Belated birthday greetings to your OH, TG. Sounds as if you are having a good time in
Somerset, Helen, we enjoyed our stay there last year.
Lots of interesting places to visit in the area around Inverness, DSB, will you have time to visit Cawdor Castle?
Love the photos around the Dart, brue, and hope that you cold soon clears up.
We moved up to Loggerheads today to a CL we used last year. 4 caravans on this weekend but the owner was saying that they have had a poor May and June for visitors, especially after last year when they were nearly full for most of the main season. It has been a cloudy, breezy, cooler day, about 23 at most, but fear we will suffer on Monday as the site has no shade to speak of.

Many thanks DSB re - tyres. OH doesn’t think he looked at MaxmilerPro, but like you, he is no tyre expert but does spend ages ‘investigating’ only to end up more confused! I’ll try to convince him to get a mobile guy and leave it to them - we’ll see. BTW did you see any dolphins around Fort George? We were lucky enough to see quite a few when we visited.

A lovely day today, not too hot. We went to NT Hidcot for a wander around, beautiful as ever. Then to Broadway and sat outside the Broadway Hotel on the green with a pot of tea and ‘people watched’. Found the new Man Cave shop there but it was me who found something I would love to buy in there, not OH, still mulling it over as very pricy. On to Moreton in Marsh and to ASK to spend those Tesco vouchers on a lovely meal. Off to son’s tomorrow to help him celebrate his birthday.

Been another warm day here today we headed in to Torquay today very busy but we had a nice trip on the road train around the town then called in to The Hole in the Wall for a pint great little pub very historic apparently Dickens and Shelly once drank there. Came back to the van and couldn’t be bothered cooking so had dinner in the on site bar then stayed for the entertainment so an enjoyable night had. Not sure what the plans are for tomorrow yet. Glad you had a nice break WN we love the Lakes and being not too far from home we visit there often

Comparatively quiet day here after doing a quick shop early on but gave up after seeing 300 gramme jar of instant coffee for EIGHT (8) quid -- I would not, and did not, spend that much on two jars never mind one. so came home sulking
. Spent too much time thereafter watching several varieties of sport on telebox whilst shortening some new cargo-pants -- my finger tips have stopped bleeding now but are still quite sore.By the way one of the sports I watched was the Ladies 20Kilometre Walk. Quite an interesting sport but probably the most graceless one, short of watching Sunday footy between two antiquated old men's teams that I have ever seen. I'll go to bed before I get caught up in the Men's speed walking, well that might even be worse

Now recovered after a very long day yesterday as we went from our friends house down to the motorhome dealers just outside Toulouse not much on the road at 6am as OH not an early bird and he was driving he did well as we had a very full car as our friends had got stuff for a 2 night break to check all ok with MH, a bit of a trial at dealers nearly 2 and half hours of handover and our friends not happy with a few things so a few things sorted before they handed any money over dealers did not like that wanted the certified cheque before they did anything best not to argue with English folk so whilst they did that we looked around the accessory sho and got a couple of things but very expensive our friends had given us their card for discount so that was useful 10% off, then a look around second hand and new motorhomes a bit too blingy we thought and very expensive so the lady who was going around a bit disappointed that we did not want one. As the dealers were closing at 1pm we all headed off to a local Carrefour for picnic lunch which our friends had done in the MH and hot drinks and time to recover from the mornings saga after that a bit of shopping and we left them to enjoy their 2 nights away.
Watering done early today and that will be it as spent too much time in sun yesterday and ended up with a headache for all of us but now gone and we did drink enough.
Good to read that folks are enjoying their breaks away and good photos.
Have a good weekend folks and stay safe in the heatwave.

You'll be pleased to hear that I met them on the return in Ambleside and the teacher in the front of the group, rather forlornly I thought, confirmed that all were present and accounted for. We have been in touch with our grandson WN who said he had a wonderful time in the Lake District. They are now all back home present and accounted for. I bet the teachers are relieved to get them all back home safely and say goodbye to them until Monday

Just had some sad news that the lady whose dog I've been walking for Cinnamon Trust for the last 4 years has had to have her put to sleep. She was 13 and had been struggling for some time now, but still managing to plod along and beg for treats when she got home. It'll be a terrible wrench for the lady who lives on her own, rarely sees her son, and some days sees no-one else after I've left.
0 -
Indeed dreadful for her M, I really feel for those who live alone, without family or friends close, a pet can be so important. She will probably miss you as well. The Cinnamon Trust is a wonderful charity.
Hoping next week won’t be as hot as predicted here, we are slap in the middle of that red zone. OH is currently in a carefully controlled, wonderfully temperatured recovery zone at the hospital, but it will be dreadful on the wards. It’s not dropped below 25c here for a couple of weeks, even the wind is hot when it blows, and no rain at all. I am filling our little bird and wildlife ponds up twice a day, it evaporates so quickly. (shallow so nothing drowns) big ponds are topped up every couple of days. Great watching things coming in for a drink and a cool off. Every time I check my weather app, temps for next week have gone up a degree.😱
