What are you all up to

I'm surprised they let you out Francis!🤣 Seems like you were in the right place to cool down today.
We had a record temperature for Wales today here in Flintshire at over 37º. It's only about 10 minutes down the road. It felt like it as well. Haven't done a great deal outside these last 2 days. Trying to be sensible for a change. Glad we didn't have this when away with MiL last week.
Have to venture out tomorrow though for blood tests and to get my glasses fixed, hopefully, at the opticians.
Heard from my younger brother after he had been to see my older one in France for a few days. Upbeat report. He seems to be coping quite well under the circumstances.
Glad you had a good holiday H&T.

Three photos from our day out yesterday. Any idea where we visited?

Well that's the sun setting in sunny Somerset tonight The wheat field is acting like a big radiator but it's not quite ripe yet so corn cutting is yet to come.

Do so hope that your visitors were pleased with your presentation, Goldie, and left singing the praises of Cumbrian farms, farmers and cattle as well as the friendly nature of them too !!
Just wondering now if you have a shortage of cool comestibles now that they have left or have you rented out your caravan

Sat outside of the van enjoying our supper. The sun has disappeared behind a bank of clouds and it is the closest that it has been all day. It got up to 36 in the car and caravan this afternoon, but thankfully we did have a gentle breeze, and even a few spots of rain. We Managed to find a shady walk this morning for an hour and think that we will go there again tomorrow.
Hope that your OH has a better night tonight, tda. Fingers crossed that you are over the worst of the Covid DK. A very special day for you Goldie, hope all went to plan.
Let's hope that no one suffers during this very hot spell and that things return to a semblance of normal from Wednesday.

Such a beautiful photo brue.

It’s way worse than 1976 JV, it’s higher temps & more intense heat this year. 2022 will be talked about like 1976 going forward. The unfortunate difference is it won’t be too long before it happens again. This Country is designed to hold the heat in not to dispel it. Gladly it’s a short while before normal service resumes. It will however leave a trail of lives lost in its wake.

A nippy 31C for the dog walk this morning
a good part in the shade thank goodness. Now awaiting possible thunder storms later in the day, we really need some rain. That was the horrible part of 1976, living with a drought for weeks on end and sharing the bath water....
Lovely photos Nellie, intrigued to find out the details, nice cool greenery.
Got to do some ironing in the shade somewhere, no other jobs, just too warm.

Sweltering here. Had a stroll early with pooch (yes I did test the pavements, but mainly a grassy shade walk), he is now firmly attached to sitting in front of the big fan I have blowing. I managed a decent nights sleep, took fan upstairs with me and had it blowing on me all night. It’s so quiet outside, very few folks about, very few cars, birds are fluttering about, but from pond to pond and in shade. Will it hit 40c is the question? Our rain forecast for tomorrow has disappeared, so nothing to fill the barrels up. I think our weather station has conked out as well🤣
I might adopt the Continental approach and retire for a Siesta this afternoon, catch up on TdeF.
Keep safe👍

Bath water sharing?, yup I agree-thankfully I wasn’t the youngest or smallest so I didn’t have to deal with the icky water at the end of the line😂😂

Tis a very pleasant 21⁰ here, grey and raining and I hear the rumble of thunder.

Cloudy here but spells of sun trying to break through, very close outside. Thankfully the house is cool.
Very quiet here to, not many cars going through the village and the children are all quiet.
Yesterday got up to 28c here and today they have promised us 30c+ plenty hot enough. BBC still say g rain on Wednesday here but the forecast on my phone says no. At least its to be cooler. Glad I'm not away in the van. We are going away come the weekend so I guess we will get a week if rain 🥴
Light housework this morning while OH is at the shed, I over did it on Sunday and now have lower backache, so that's it for today.
I hate doing nothing but I know if I don't rest it, it will only linger for longer.
Take care today folks and drink plenty.

Sounds like heaven.
Necessity being the mother of invention we have some handsome window dressings! Towels pegged on venetian blinds, sheet over glass door and large plain duvet cover clipped over bay window in the lounge. Still 29c in all rooms. 36c in next village which has official weather station.
Currently sitting at the table doing paperwork, bowl under the table with my feet in. Fan on the table at my face. Bowl idea courtesy of DIL who is working from home, having a kitchen day! Grandson sitting in the paddling pool playing in the kitchen. Harvest should start tomorrow but fears its very dry.
Last night I had a cool bath before bed, had to check the underfloor heating hadn't been turned on the tiles that are usually so chilly felt warm 😱. Sat on the bed sheets, felt like they'd just been ironed. That said slept fine.
Dog wanted a walk so we tootled out to first meadow, 25 minutes there and back very slow pace but came back damp at 7am. Noticed a few days ago how many trees shedding leaves, still green and very crispy, worse this morning our pear tree looks very sad 🥲.
Lovely photo brue, definitely worth printing and having on the wall, I'd grab a copy if it were for sale.
No idea where you were nelliethehooker.
Wherenext, I'm not convinced you're correct re eye test 🤣🤣.
Awaiting Goldie update.
Take care folks, hope all those under the weather are improving

We arrived at the NYM site, yesterday afternoon - with the alarm going off on the Tyrepal telling me that one of the van tyres was over 40 degrees. I think I set the alarm limits to what TP recommended - but obviously that wasn't allowing for this weather. Then the fun started - set the van up - filled up with water and then put the water heater on in anticipation of a nice coolish shower later. Error message on the Truma panel that wouldn't clear and bearing in mind this is now the third time this year that the Truma system has been faulty, Richard was not best pleased. Fortunately, it works OK on gas and we have plenty of gas with us and the ability to top up if necessary.
It's still stifling today but at least there's quite a breeze which helps a little and would be even better if it was a cool breeze - but it isn't!
Really looking forward to tomorrow with the prospect of some rain. I does sound, though, that our temperatures of the low 30s are nowhere near as bad as some are experiencing - but it's still too hot for me!!

As we are both still sleeping downstairs it is cooler than our bedroom which faces south, so gets the sun from about 1000hrs until it sets very hot upstairs,
No trains today on East Coast main line temperature to high, so very quiet and very few vehicles moving on the roads in this area
Our railways are designed to run from minus 10c to 35c above that damage to track and overhead power lines

A decent breeze here by the sounds out it.
Sun off patio doors so pulled curtain back and opened door a fraction. Felt like opening aircraft doors in Far East 😱😱 soon closed both on again.
Brue sorry to hear of your bites, but photo is a joy.

Nothing wrong with my eye sight, it's the spell checker that's playing up.🤣
That was rather a long morning. Blood tests first thing. Nobody waiting when I arrived so I was done and back home before my official appointment. Speaking to the phlebotomist she told me that they had had 6 phlebotomists leave the service in the last 3 months. They can't get replacements.
Went into town to post some things, pick up and take books back to the library and have my glasses fixed. They decided to book me in for an instant eye test. The chiropodist next door must have phoned them and let them know I'd been in asking for my glasses to be repaired!🤫 Eyes unbelievably fine. Yep, they still said I was ok to drive! As there is glaucoma in the family i'm supposed to have one each year but they've been stretched with covid so it's nearly 3 years since my last one. Fortunately all still more or less the same. They fitted a new arm to my glasses as well. Cost me a fortune for just 1 arm. Now plus an arm but minus a leg.😂
Then nipped into Aldi as Mrs WN forgot some vittels this morning when I dropped her off but Aldi's chiller cabinets all broke down yesterday as they couldn't literally stand the heat. Not a sausage on show, (or bacon or fish etc.)
Home now and not moving for rest of the day.

It all went very well. The food was set out under trees (we sort of worked out where the shade would be at lunch time). Our home made burgers went down well, but the biggest hit was the ice cream. The Milking Parlour at Kirkby Lonsdale came out. They have converted a cattle trailer into a mobile ice cream shop. (Not that our guests had to pay - it was all part of our hospitality ).
Today we are taking it easy. Our house is ancient with thick stone walls, so it’s pleasantly cool.

That ice cream parlour is on our list thanks Goldie👍

Two photos from last 10 minutes. Inside temp showing 30.5c. I put a little thermometer out for 5 minutes on our step. A staggering 42c. Possibly picking up a bit of residual heat from step.

Goldie, do cows get badly sunburnt on their noses? We had a horse with a white blaze, and we used to have to lather his nose in factor 50 in the Summer. Just me being inquisitive. We always provided shade, but…..you can lead a horse to water……😁
