We escaped to a very rural spot in Devon today, somewhere near Honiton, joined our garden club for a visit to Southwood Farm and garden. Very hot in the sun but a welcome cup of tea and cake helped at the end. The farm dates from the 1660s and had a lovely old cross-passage.

Busy day today, haircut first thing and then decided that after seeing the weather forecast for the weekend I needed some more sun screen, 😯🥵. so popped to shops before work.
Seems Covid has come back, my hairdresser said she had succumbed a couple of weeks ago, and both our neighbours opposite have just recovered, just keeping my fingers crossed 🤞 now we can keep our clean sheet a bit longer.
Ttda and WN pleased you both enjoyed your holiday's.
Millie that's good to know dogs are now allowed in Peterborough cathedral.
DEBSC that was close, I remember OH accidentally hit a badger early one morning on his way to work, it made a real mess of the front of the car!

I know what it is, but only because I cheated, so I won’t give an answer😁
Some wonderful visits happening, that Farm looks very interesting brue.I am up to Mum’s tomorrow, got plants to put in our new border, then weekend trying to sort out my own garden. We are enjoying some great weather at the moment, and forecast for next week is good.

The best day so far! Started from Honister pass and did four fells that I hadn't done before as always going for the big names (to my shame I should add), Fleetwith Pike, Grey Knots, Brandreth and Base Brown then down to Seathwaith. If anyone else hasn't been up to the dubs quarry area recently it's been totally transformed with lots of new machinery for the mine.
Northern fells tomorrow, hope everyone is having a great time too.

WN The funeral we went to recently was at Staindrop right near Raby Castle and the gravyard where their ashes are buried is a lovely peaceful spot overlooked by the castle. Sadly we didnt have time to visit but we have been before and really enjoyed it so I hope the 3 of you do as well.
Wonderful photos Brue. It looks a really lovely place.
Helen I hope you stay covid free and have a wonderful holiday.

Came on line at about 9.00 this evening to find a faceache message for me __ Do you remember the lady who I mentioned was waiting for a hip replacement in early August ~~ well I opened the message and there she was, air-line in her nostrils and a blooming big daft grin on her mush ~~ why I hear you asking ?? Well my Nephews wife has had her hip ~~ replacement date altered and IT'S BEEN DONE !!
Now I hope that your Hubby can get similar Early Doors Treatment OOP NORTH !!

Nowt to do with the slate industry, sorry WN. Surprisingly enough, or not, it is called The Arch, at Penbwlchbodcoll!! I'll let you pronounce that, and can you give it's English translation please, if you done mind.
It was built by Thomas Johnes of Hafod in 1810 to mark the Golden Jubilee of George III. It was once the gateway to the Hafod Estste.

Our daughter always warns us to keep our eyes out for deer in Glencoe..... We've never seen a deer in Glencoe but she seems to see them everytime she drives that way. We're up at Grantown-on-Spey soon, so must keep an eye out for them there - it's in the 'Aviemore area'.
On Lewis with Harris, Ruth sometimes gets deer peering at them through their downstairs window!! 🤣🤣

Enjoy Raby, lots to see. The church Millie mentioned at Staindrop is worth looking in, has Beaufort Effigies, lots of history. Safe journey homewards…

Another walk doing some fells I have neglected. A round walk starting with Souther Fell then a long moorland boggy walk to Mungrisdale Common then over to Bannerdale Crags. Started off very hot and sunny then mists off and on but still warm.
Not sure about tomorrow yet.
PS I didn't see the famous spectral army on Souther.

OH and self called into Raby Castle 2 years ago when we were last in the area and had a walk around the castle as well as the grounds and found the volunteers to be the most informative and friendly guides that we have encountered anywhere on our travels. However today we were going to go in with MiL but just before they opened the portcullis they allowed a large coach party of people in for a tour so we decided against it. I don't think she was that bothered today tbh.
We called off at the Rose and Crown in Romaldkirk for lunch and then traipsed over the tops and via Acorn Bank gardens near Penrith to our next cottage for the week, on the outskirts of Ambleside. A bit of a tease this week as I'll have to restrict my walking to suit an 89 year old so the Fairfield Horseshoe it is tomorrow.
Seriously it will be pottering for a mile or two. They may let me off the leash for a slightly longer and quick climb or two but you can bet they'll have an ulterior motive for doing so. I can see me being allowed up the "Lion and the Lamb" whilst a visit to the art gallery and shop in Grasmere is taken in by them. Can't complain though.Cottage is first class but again I have to add a caveat insofar as I've not yet tried the bed.
Didn't unfortunately have time to stop and admire the church in Staindrop but we have in the past.
Edit - lovely shots again Corners.

Well I finished work at lunchtime, and now we are set up on a lovely CL near Bourton on the Water. Had a walk round NT Sherbourne this afternoon weather has been glorious 🌞now I'm just enjoying a well earned glass of wine or 2 🙂
We travel the rest of the way down the M5 tomorrow to near Glastonbury.
Wishing everyone a lovely weekend.

Good to read that you finally got to Acorn Bank, WN. Hope you all enjoyed the walk around the gardens. Hope that you manage to get a walk up a hill or two, and that the weather kind to you all. Sounds as if you have selected a couple of fine cottages for this trip.
Enjoy your stay down in Somerset, H&T Which CL are you stopping on at Bourton, if you don't mind me asking, as there are not many around there unfortunately.
It has not been quite as not as yesterday, but warm enough for us. Today we had a drive around Clywedog Reservoir to visit the Bryn Tail Lead Works and to view the Ospreys. This year the forest Rangers have added a small hide at the parking area, which gives a grand view of their nest.
Great shots again Corners, shame about the mist.

Gosh has it been 2 years WN, that was a nice place we met at. 😊 Glad to hear MIL is having a nice holiday and you and OH of course.
OHs passport arrived today so that's us all sorted for another 10 years, no extention to them now, just the straight 10 years. Good service from the passport office, I will be making a favourable comment on their site.
Food shopping this morning along with a trip to the dealership. OH needed parts for the MH, he has fitted a trap in the waste pipe under the kitchen sink.
We had some unpleasant smells when we were away despite emptying the tank every other day. When we got back he removed all the drawers under the sink to find that a trap hadn't been fitted during the build process. All now sorted so hopefully no more nasty smells.
I bought a new mat in place of a ground sheet for the MH. One of those woven outdoor ones, it's 240 x 150 so a good size. We don't bother with groundsheets as we tend not to stay long. The mat is easy to just roll and unroll, travels on the floor between the long seats at the rear of the van.
Had a rest from the garden today, just did a few pottering type jobs outdoors and setup the new traveller TV we bought for the MH.
Nice sunny warm day but we still have that wind, really warm if you are somewhere sheltered.
Through the wall neighbours are away camping for the weekend, must be the first time it's not poured it down for them.
Have a good weekend folks, it looks to be a nice one.

A glorious sunny day in the South Lakes, so the mower is in action. We've cut the hay meadows, and the baler man is coming on Monday. Meanwhile we're mowing the silage fields and getting the pit ready for the grass. We'll probably start picking up after milking tonight.
Meanwhile I've been cooking and baking. A large joint of our own beef in the Aga bottom oven overnight, and I'm about to start on Egg and Bacon pie. The cakes tins are full and I think I'm ready to go with easily transported boxes of food.

Already red hot here🥵 My huge climbing rose is in for a haircut today, then it will start on its second flush. Grass here has virtually stopped growing, too hot and dry. Just a quick skim over with mower needed.
We won’t get away now for a few weeks, but if the weather stays this nice, won’t be complaining. I shall use down time to give MH a thorough clean, it’s already done eight trips this year, along with lots of days out. Hoping OH is fit and well enough to go back out in time for Tour of Britain. I have been exploring bike trails to get onto Forth Road Bridge, that would be a nice scenic one to add to our list. Original bridge is only open to buses and taxis nowadays, with dedicated space for cyclists and walkers.

Yippee.

I was allowed off the leash, well, for the morning anyway. Ladies decided that they didn't want to drag me around Ambleside whilst MiL looked for items from Joules etc. (much to my relief) so I was allowed a 2 hour stretch of the legs. I decided that getting in the car would eat up too much time so walked from the cottage up to High Sweden Bridge and back down via the lower bridge to Ambleside. Looked temptingly at the higher ground but was a good boy and returned to find that they had not only finished but had somehow secured a full plate Apple pie for me, gluten free, from the Apple Pie Bakery appropriately. Double Yippee.
Lovely sunny day but I fear a shade too hot for all of those participants taking part in multiple mountain trail runs/ triathlons/ 100 km run that started during the night/ fun runs etc. that seemed to be going on from Ambleside itself.
The afternoon spent relaxing with just a short walk late on.
Hope everyone has their Sun factor 30 on but still able to enjoy the weekend and holidays.

What a scorcher! Wall to wall sunshine. Started from patterdale before 8 but hot even then. Did a fantastic round walk Arinson Crag, Birks, then to Sunday's Crag. Called it a day here but young Sherpa went to Fairfield and Harsop above How and still beat us down to the car. Got back to the site around three and sat out drinking and eating ice cream. Quite a lot doing the same.
Homeward bound tomorrow.

You have been extremely fortunate with the weather this week Corners but there will have been times when it was almost a write off so I'm glad you enjoyed the tops. I did look up today and wonder where you would be and knew you wouldn't "waste" a day as these don't come along that often.
Have a safe journey homeward.
I think I've been granted another 2 hours or so tomorrow as i think the ladies will be taking the ferry down to Bowness so will probably restrict myself to Orrett Head as I'll have to pick them up and then head to Booths.

Booths with Lakeland next door, beware, you're bound to come home with a new bucket or cake tin WN!!

I was pleased to receive a new gardening aid today. I had watched Gardeners World this week and a lady using a single arm pruner which holds onto the prunings caught my eye. So I'm now the proud owner of a lightweight Darlac "cut'n'hold" snapper to give it the correct name and very useful it will be too. Saves teetering on short steps etc or reaching into difficult areas without falling in too.

Hope you have survived the heat Kj, we are poised to suffer the same and no EHU to switch on a cooling fan!!!
(I did suggest we look for a shady spot, then OH said what about the solar panel.....
)Hope Helen and Trevor are enjoying their break, although it's very warm it is nice not to have rain and winds for a change.

OMG I clean forgot about Lakeland!!

I'll have to buy something from Booths that needs to go in the freezer asap!

Plenty of folks sweltering in the open on the rugby field that the C&CC are running at Ambleside. About 70 units with only about 5 of them in shade. Good luck to all in the sun.

Last night here now, onward to North Wales tomorrow to visit friends.
Very hot here as no shade on the site other than in the shadow of the van. One unit left today, and 2 new ones had arrived while we were out, so were setting up slowly and trying to hide from the sun.
Our air con has had good use on this trip as it has been very warm on all sites, and no shade either on most of them. Next 2 sites will be similar.
New arrival next door said he was very envious of the air con!

Woke this morning to a beautiful day, left The CL at Bourton with a jar of local honey 🙂, Nellie we were at Westwood Ho, basic CL no EHU but lovely owner and very quiet, popular too as full.
M5 was busy around Bristol as usual but we kept moving although slowly 🐌
Found the next CL ok, beautiful views and can see Glastonbury Tor. Very warm this afternoon so we just did a circular walk round the edge of the village, did find the pub 😀
Neighbours on the CL who are leaving tomorrow have kindly passed on some leaflets for places to visit so now just planning for tomorrow. Lots of nature reserves in the area and one in the village.Spolit for choice.
Make the most of the sunshine everyone. 🌞

We had a very enjoyable boat trip from Ferry Meadows today on their new electric boat. Such beautiful weather for it. I took some photos of Milton Ferry Bridge from the water (the boat not In the water😂😂)
That all sounds wonderful Helen. Have a lovely time and keep putting that factor 50 on.
Fancy you forgetting Lakeland WN. 😂😂I bet Mrs WN and MIL haven't!
